ਜੇ (ਮੇਰਾ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ (ਇੱਕ) ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ (ਮੈਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਿਲ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ
Hundreds of thousands of princely pleasures are enjoyed, if the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੰੂ) ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੜਕਾਹਟ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)
If He bestows the Name of the Lord, for even a moment, my mind and body are cooled and soothed.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ) ਸੇਵਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਰ
O my mind, serve the True Guru.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾ । ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
God Himself grants His Grace; do not forget Him, even for an instant. ||Pause||
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਕੋਈ ਧਰਮ-ਗੀਤ ਕੋਈ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸੁਣੀ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ
who has never taken the time to listen to sacred books, hymns and poetry
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
-if you then come to remember the Supreme Lord God, and contemplate Him, even for a moment, you shall be saved. ||4||
ਮਨੱੁਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦਾ
He has forgotten the Creator, his Lord and Master, and he does not meditate on Him, even for an instant.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—(ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਤੀਜੇ ਪਹਰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਗਿਆਨ-ਹੀਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਨ-ਰੂਪ) ਜ਼ਹਰ (ਹੀ) ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
Says Nanak, in the third watch of the night, the blind and ignorant person gathers poison. ||3||
ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਹੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! (ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਬੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ (ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰੇ ਹਟਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ
How could I forget Him from my mind, even for an instant? He is the Most Worthy; He is my very life!
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਿਤ ਫਲ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਪੀੜਾ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My Lord and Master is the Giver of the fruits of the mind's desires. He knows all the useless vanities and pains of the soul.
(ਹੇ ਹਰੀ !) ਜੋ (ਜੀਵ) ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੇ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਛੁਡਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ
You Yourself liberate those who think of You for even an instant.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਕਉਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਵਾਂਗ) ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
O Lord, nothing is beyond You. I am delighted to behold You, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||7||
ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀਲੇ-ਜਤਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਫੜ,
Abandon your clever devices, and grasp hold of His Support.
ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਤੇਰੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ ।੩।
In an instant, you shall be saved. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਰਸ ਤੂੰ ਚੱਖਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
You may taste the other flavors,
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਸਮੇਂ ਤਕ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।
but your thirst shall not depart, even for an instant.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਜੀਭ ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ, ਪਲ ਪਲ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ।
O tongue, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
(ਜੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ (ਫਿੱਕੇ ਬੋਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਨੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ,
Each and every moment, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਗਹਿਣਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You are my honor; You are my decoration.
ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
Without You, I cannot survive, even for an instant. ||1||
ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਤੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ।
Without You, I cannot live, even for an instant, and my life in this world is cursed.
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
O Breath of Life of the soul, O Giver of peace, each and every instant I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ (ਦਾ ਰਟਨ) ।
He is contained in the nine continents of the world, and within this body; each and every moment, I humbly bow to Him.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ (ਜੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਲੋਕ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
I have made the Guru's Teachings my ear-rings, and I have enshrined the One Formless Lord within my being. ||1||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਮਾਂ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ (ਐਸਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਿਲ ਪਵੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਇਸ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਵੇ ।
O mother, if only someone would instruct my wayward mind.
(ਇਹ ਭੁੱਲਿਆ ਮਨ) ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਾਂਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
This mind listens to the Vedas, the Puraanas, and the ways of the Holy Saints, but it does not sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, for even an instant. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੁਆਰੀਆ ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਹਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ।
You have wasted the precious jewel of this human life; you do not know the Way of the Lord of the Universe.
ਤੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਉਮਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
You have not been absorbed in the Lord's Feet, even for an instant. Your life has passed away in vain! ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਇਕ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਏ,
One who lives in meditative remembrance, even for an instant,
ਉਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਦਿਨ (ਜੀਊ ਲਿਆ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
lives for hundreds of thousands and millions of days, and becomes stable forever. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਲੱਖਮੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
Meditate lovingly on the Lotus Feet of the Lord, the Destroyer of distress, the Protector of the poor, the Lord of excellence.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਔਖਾ ਰਸਤਾ, ਤੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ (ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The treacherous path of death and the terrifying ocean of fire are crossed over by meditating in remembrance on the Lord, even for an instant.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ।
He does not enshrine the Generous Lord God, the Great Giver, in his mind, even for an instant.
ਲਾਲਚ, ਝੂਠ, ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ—ਬੱਸ! ਇਹੀ ਧਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ ।
Greed, falsehood, corruption and emotional attachment - these are what he collects within his mind.
ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਰਤਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਟਾ ਦੇਵੇ,
piece by piece, you may cut your body apart;
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।
but even so, the filth of your ego shall not depart.
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਸਲੀ) ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those upon whom He bestows His favor, become His servants.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਐਸੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਦਮ-ਬ-ਦਮ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ।੮।੫।
Each and every moment, O Nanak, meditate on the Lord. ||8||5||
ਜੋ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜੁਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
who, each and every moment, bows in reverence to the Lord Master
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ (ਅਸਲੀ) ਅਪਰਸ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
- O Nanak, such a one is the true 'touch-nothing Saint', who emancipates everyone. ||1||
(ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੁੱਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਿਰ) ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
Deluded by doubt, they wander around in the ten directions.
ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਚਹੁੰ ਕੂਟਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੱਜ ਦੌੜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In an instant, their minds go around the four corners of the world and come back again.
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਤੇ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।
Everything is obtained: the heavens, liberation and deliverance,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਨੇ ਅੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਹਨ,
if one sings the Lord's Glories, even for an instant.
(ਤਿੰਨ ਤਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਦਾ,
Meditation on the Lord, Har, Har, does not enter into the minds of the people.
ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਸੁਖਾਂ-ਦੇ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਿਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।
They do not sing the Praises of God, the Ocean of peace, even for an instant.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਅਨੰਦ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹ
Remembering Him in meditation, misfortune departs, and one comes to abide in peace and bliss.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ, ਕਦੇ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਅਸਾਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ।੨।
O Nanak, meditate forever on the Lord - do not forget Him, even for an instant. ||2||
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ।
Keep me under Your Protection, O Beloved Master of the Universe; fulfill my faith, O Lord of the World.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ) ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ ।੨।੩੯।੧੩।੧੫।੬੭।
Servant Nanak's mind is filled with bliss, when he beholds the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, even for an instant. ||2||39||13||15||67||
(ਹੇ ਮਾਂ!) ਮੈਂ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਇਹੀ ਸੁੱਖਣਾ ਸੁੱਖਦੀ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਤੇ)
Each and every moment, I contemplate and adore Him.
ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਾਂ ।
Day and night, I serve Him like this.
ਹੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਥੋੜਾ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ (ਫਿਰ) ਤੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
For a moment of sexual pleasure, you shall suffer in pain for millions of days.
ਤੂੰ ਘੜੀ ਦੋ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੧।
For an instant, you may savor pleasure, but afterwards, you shall regret it, again and again. ||1||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਕਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
My Beloved has brought forth a river of nectar. The Guru has not held it back from my mind, even for an instant. ||1||Pause||
ਸਦਾ ਉਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ
I do not forget Him, even for an instant.
(ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਭੁੱਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ
How can I live without Him?
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ (ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ (ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
By the healing ointment of the Guru's spiritual wisdom, one meets the Immaculate Lord God, who is totally pervading the water, the land and the sky.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫਰਕਣ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
If He dwells within the heart, for even an instant, sorrows are forgotten.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਲਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜਾਪ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਤਪਾਣਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ) ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਇਹ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ ।
The wealth of the Lord is my chanting, the wealth of the Lord is my deep meditation; the wealth of the Lord is the food I enjoy.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਂਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
I do not forget the Lord, Har, Har, from my mind, even for an instant; I have found Him in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ! (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਅਸੀਸ ਹੈ
O son, this is your mother's hope and prayer,
—ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
that you may never forget the Lord, Har, Har, even for an instant. May you ever vibrate upon the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ, ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਤੋਂ) ਢਿੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ।
Worship the Lord in adoration, day and night, O my dear - do not delay for a moment.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਹਠ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Serve the Saints with loving faith, and set aside your pride and stubbornness. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਮੰਨਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਬਾਰੇ) ਕੋਈ ਉਲਟਾ ਬੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋਲਦੀ ।
Whatever He says, I accept that as good. I do not say "No" to what He says.
(ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਦੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਸਰੇ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਭੁਲਾਇਆਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Let me not forget Him, even for an instant; forgetting Him, I die. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ । ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
God is the One who accomplishes everything; He is the Dispeller of pain. Never forget Him from your mind, even for an instant.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਸਰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He is blissful, night and day; He is forever True. All Glories are contained in the Lord in the Universe.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ।
One whose consciousness is filled with my Lord Master - why should he feel anxious about anything?
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਟਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ।
The Lord is the Giver of Peace, the Lord of all things; why would we turn our faces away from His meditation, even for a moment, or an instant?
ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is the companion of my breath of life; without it, I cannot live for an instant or a moment.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ (ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ) ਤਾਂਘ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord, Har, Har, the Giver of peace, shows His Mercy, and the Gurmukh drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਉਸ ਸਾਧ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਤੇ ਨਾਥ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਜਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੋ ।
Worship the True Guru day and night; He leads us the meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Master of the Universe.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ) ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ
Behold the True Guru, each and every moment; He shows us the Divine Path of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਬੜੀ ਲੰਮੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਸੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਪਹੰੁਚੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਹੈ ।
I have searched and searched and searched, and found that the Lord's Name is the most sublime reality.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ) ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Contemplating it for even an instant, sins are erased; the Gurmukh is carried across and saved. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਜਾਮਲ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਸੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ
Ajaamal, known throughout the world as a sinner, was redeemed in an instant.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚਿਤਵਨੀਆਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ । ਤੂੰ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ।
Says Nanak, remember the Chintaamani, the jewel which fulfills all desires, and you too shall be carried across and saved. ||3||4||
ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਭੀ) ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ (ਉਸ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ।
He listens to the teachings of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, but he does not enshrine them in his heart, even for an instant.
ਪਰਾਏ ਧਨ, ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ) ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Engrossed in the wealth and women of others, his life passes away uselessly. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰੋ ।
O Saints of the Lord, listen to the Lord's Praises with your ears.
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣੋ, ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੋਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Listen to the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, for a moment, for even an instant, and all your sins and mistakes shall be erased. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ! ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੈਂ, ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ
You are kind and compassionate, the treasure of mercy, the Purifier of sinners, Lord of the world.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਜ-ਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।੩।
I obtain millions of joys, comforts and kingdoms, if You inspire me to chant Your Name with my mouth, even for an instant. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਆਗੂ ਹੈਂ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਅਗਵਾਈ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ), ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈਂ ।
You are the Giver, O Lord, O Cherisher, my Master, my Husband Lord.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਸਾਡੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਬੱਚੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ (ਜੀਊਂਦੇ) ਹਾਂ ।
Each and every moment, You cherish and nurture me; I am Your child, and I rely upon You alone. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਸਾਥੀ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਾਥੋਂ) ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਵੱਖਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
He alone is called your companion, who will not be separated from you, here or hereafter.
ਉਸ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਛਾ ਸੁਖ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਦੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
That pleasure, which passes away in an instant, is trivial. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਤੂੰ ਚੰਦਨ ਅਤਰ (ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਪਰ, ਵੇਖ, ਇਹ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੋਗ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹਨ
The application of sandalwood oil, the enjoyment of pleasures and the practice of many corrupt sins - look upon all of these as insipid and worthless. The Name of the Lord of the Universe alone is sublime; so say the Holy Saints.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ । ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਮਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ । ਵੇਖ, ਇਹ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ।
You claim that your body and wealth are your own; you do not chant the Lord's Name even for an instant. Look and see, that none of your possessions or riches shall go along with you. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਛਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।
With each and every breath, each and every instant, day and night, dwell upon Him.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠ ਕੇ) ਝਾਕਾ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ । ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ ।੧।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate on Him fearlessly, and enshrine the treasure of His Name in your mind. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਤਾ-ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, (ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਰਮ) ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ।
One who is attached to religious rituals, does not love the Lord, even for an instant; he is filled with pride, and he is of no account.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
One who meets with the rewarding personality of the Guru, continually sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. By Guru's Grace, such a rare one beholds the Lord with his eyes. ||6||
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਬੇਅੰਤ, ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਵੱਸੀਆਂ
Love for the infinite, Perfect Lord does not abide in his mind, even for an instant.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਇਹ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ (ਸਰੀਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ (ਮਣ) ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ (ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੩।
Prays Nanak, the fort of paper is false - it is destroyed in an instant. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ, ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ
He does not practice the Naam, the Name of the Lord; nor does he practice charity or inner cleansing.
ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ (ਜਗਤ) ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ।੩।
He does not sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, even for an instant. Clinging to his many falsehoods, he does not please his own mind, and he does not understand his own self. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ (ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ)! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ
Dear God, please meet me; You are my breath of life.
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ । ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
Do not let me forget You from my heart, even for an instant; please, bless Your devotee with Your gift of perfection. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਭਗਤ) ਰਵਿਦਾਸ (ਜਾਤਿ ਦਾ) ਚਮਾਰ (ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ । ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤਿ ਦਾ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਮਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ।
Ravi Daas, the leather-worker, praised the Lord, and sang the Kirtan of His Praises each and every instant.
ਚੌਹਾਂ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਆ ਕੇ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ।੨।
Although he was of low social status, he was exalted and elevated, and people of all four castes came and bowed at his feet. ||2||
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ
I would trade meditation, austerity, self-discipline and celibacy,
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਵਜ਼ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਦੇ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ ।੩।
if I could only meet the Lord of my life, for even an instant. ||3||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ)
May I never forget, even for an instant, the Lord's Feet.
ਨਾਨਕ (ਇਹ) ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ (ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲਣ ।੪।੨੫।੩੧।
Nanak begs for this gift, O my Beloved. ||4||25||31||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਲੋਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਸੂਲੀਆ ਜਮ ਲੱੁਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The religious rites, rituals and hypocrisies which are seen, are plundered by the Messenger of Death, the ultimate tax collector.
ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਛਿਨ-ਭਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
In the state of Nirvaanaa, sing the Kirtan of the Creator's Praises; contemplating Him in meditation, even for an instant, one is saved. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੀ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ।
I am nothing; You are the One and only. You Yourself are All-knowing.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਿਲੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਉਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।
With just a momentary Glance of Your Grace, God, I live; I enjoy all pleasures and delights.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹਰੀ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ
I shall not forsake, even for an instant, my Dear Beloved Lord, the Support of the breath of life.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਬਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਅਟੱਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ ।
The Guru, the True Guru, has instructed me in the contemplation of the True, Inaccessible Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾਵੋ! (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ) ਮਤਿ ਉੱਚੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ (ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ), ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Wisdom, honor, wealth, peace and celestial bliss are attained, if one does not forget the Lord of supreme bliss, even for an instant. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ!) ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ, ਇਸ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੰਨੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
You hold onto your body, mind and wealth as your own,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ।੨।
and you do not meditate on the Creator Lord, even for an instant. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਾਂ? (ਉਹ ਲਗਨ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ)
What blessed destiny will lead me to meet my God?
ਇਕ ਇਕ ਪਲ, ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
Each and every moment and instant, I continually meditate on the Lord. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਬੜੀ ਅਧੀਨਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ, ਆਪਣੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਭੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ।
I pray with intense devotion, and offer this soul to Him.
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ।੨।
I would sacrifice all other riches, for a moment's union with my Beloved. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
O Inaccessible, Beautiful, Imperishable Creator Lord, Purifier of sinners, let me meditate on You, even for an instant.
ਇਹ ਸੁਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਚਰਜ ਹੈ ਅਚਰਜ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ । (ਸੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Wondrous Lord, I have heard that You are found by meeting the Saints, and focusing the mind on their feet, their holy feet. ||1||
ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
I cannot survive, even for an instant.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
By great good fortune, Nanak has found the Lord. ||5||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਓ! (ਉਸ ਕੰਤ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਵਿਸਾਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ,
Lovingly enjoying Him, we become pleasing to Him; let's not reject Him, for a moment, even for an instant.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਗਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਤੋਂ) ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ) ਮਨ ਰੰਗ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Let's hug Him close in our embrace, and not feel shy; let's bathe our minds in the dust of His feet.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਦੀਵਾ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ (ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The darkness of ignorance has been dispelled, with the light of the lamp of the Guru's wisdom. Servant Nanak lives by beholding the Lord.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਤੇਰਾ) ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਅਜੇਹੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ-ਭਰ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਵੇ ।੧।
Let me behold Your face, for a moment, even an instant! ||1||
ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
The Name is the True Primal Being;
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
millions of sins are washed away in an instant, singing His Praises.
(ਹੇ ਬੀਠੁਲ ਪਿਤਾ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
I have been transformed from a mortal being into an angel, in an instant; the True Guru has taught me this.
ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਦਵਾਈ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਵਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜੰਮ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨੁੱਖ-ਜਾਤੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਸੁਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਰਗ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ) ।੧।
Born of human flesh, I have conquered the heavens; such is the medicine I was given. ||1||
ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He enjoys the various shows and forms, pleasures and delicacies;
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells within the heart of the Gurmukh. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ, ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ ।
The Savior Lord is merciful.
ਜੇ ਅੱਖ ਫਰਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Millions of incarnations are eradicated in an instant, contemplating the Lord.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ।
Such is our all-powerful dear Lord.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਸਰਦਾ । ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
His devotees do not forget Him, even for an instant. Twenty-four hours a day, O mind, meditate on Him. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
One who enshrines the Lord's Name in his heart night and day - even for an instant
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਜਨਮ ਸਫਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉੇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।੨।
- has his fear of Death eradicated. O Nanak, his life is approved and fulfilled. ||3||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਜਿਸ ਠਾਕੁਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ?
Why have you forgotten your Lord and Master, who blessed you with this human life?
ਹੇ ਨਰ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਉਸ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਾਂਦਾ ।੨।
Remembering Him in meditation, one is liberated. And yet, you do not sing His Praises, even for an instant. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਵੇਖੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਤਾ!) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
My mind is reluctant to serve Him;
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ-ਭਰ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਸੌਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ।੭।
forgetting Him, I cannot survive, even for an instant. ||7||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ।
He is permeating and pervading the water, the land and the sky; do not forget Him from your mind, even for an instant.
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਸਮਝੋ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਨ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੇ, (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ) ਉਸ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ (ਹੋਵੇ) ।
Blessed was that day, when I grasped the Guru's feet; all virtues rest in the Lord of the Universe.
ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਅਸੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ? ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਸਾਂ ਕੀਹ ਖੱਟਿਆ?
For what purpose were you created and brought into the world? What rewards have you received in this life?
ਅਸਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਚਿੱਤ ਨਾਹ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਜੋ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
God is the boat to carry you across the terrifying world-ocean; He is the Fulfiller of the mind's desires. You have not centered your mind on Him, even for an instant. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉੱਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਫੇਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ।
That house, in which the Saints speak of the Lord - I have not visited it, even for an instant.
ਪਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਈ, ਚੋਰ, ਬਦਮਾਸ਼, ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀ—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Drunkards, thieves, and evil-doers - I constantly dwell with them. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਘੜੀ ਮੁੜੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
My faults and sins of corruption are countless; over and over again, I commit them.
ਅਸੀ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਤਨੇ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਪੱਥਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ । ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਮਹਾਂ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
I am unworthy, I am a heavy stone sinking down; but the Lord has carried me across, in association with His humble servants. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹੀ ਸਮਝ (ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ), ਉਹੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪ (ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ), ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਂਦਾ ।
That alone is intelligence, that alone is wisdom and cleverness, which inspires one to never forget God, even for an instant.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਇਹ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Joining the Society of the Saints, I have found this peace, singing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਬਾਲਮੀਕ ਚੰਡਾਲ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ, ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਭੀ ਤਰ ਗਏ ।
Baalmeek the outcaste was saved, and the poor hunter was saved as well.
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਗਜ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੨।
The elephant remembered the Lord in his mind for an instant, and so was carried across. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਜਿਸ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਣਾ-ਵੱਸਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਘਰ ਕਦੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ-ਚੇਤੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ ।੩।
That home within which you live - you have not kept that home in your thoughts. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਕਦੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
He is immovable, indestructible, the Giver of peace to the soul; and yet you do not sing His Praises, even for an instant. ||4||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਲ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਕਦੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੫।
You have forgotten that place where you must go; you have not attached your mind to the Lord, even for an instant. ||5||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਬਲ ਹੈ, ਬੁੱਧੀ ਹੈ, ਸੂਝ-ਬੂਝ ਹੈ, ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ ।
God is power, intellect, understanding, the breath of life, wealth, and everything for the Saints.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ ।੮।੨।
May I never forget Him from my mind, even for an instant - this is Nanak's prayer. ||8||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ, ਪਲ, ਨਿਮਖ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਮੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੰਡਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ-ਨਿਯਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੰਘਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
Hours, minutes and seconds meditate in remembrance.
ਮੌਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਨਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
Death and life, and thoughts of purification, meditate in remembrance.
ਹੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਧਰ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ।
Wherever I look, there I see the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਸਰ ।
I never forget God, my Lord and Master, even for an instant.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਲਕ-ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who are so pre-destined by their Lord and Master, worship and adore the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
All sins are erased in an instant, for those who meditate on the Lord, through the Guru's Teachings.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ (ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ) ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਲੰਮੇ ਪੈਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਗਏ ।
The Sikhs travelled with the Guru, the True Guru, on the path, along the road.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰੇਕ ਖਿਨ, ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ, ਕਦਮ ਕਦਮ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਦਾ ਅਵਸਰ) ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ ।
Night and day, devotional worship services were held, each and every instant, with each step.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ (ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ) । ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਲ) ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ । (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
Please hear me, O my Lord God; I live only by seeing Your Vision, even if only for an instant.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਣੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਲ) ਪੀ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I have heard that Your Name is the most Ambrosial Nectar; please bless me with Your Mercy, that I may drink it in.
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He reaches out with His Hand and saves His slave.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ, ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
He does not abandon us, even for an instant; He is always with us. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰਾਗ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਾਜ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਇਕ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਆਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Countless melodies, countless instruments, countless tastes, each and every instant. Countless mistakes and countless diseases are removed by hearing His Praise.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਦੇਸ-ਰਟਨ ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੈ । ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹਨ ।੨।੧।੫੭।੮।੨੧।੭।੫੭।੯੩।
O Nanak, serving the Infinite, Divine Lord, one earns all the rewards and merits of performing the six rituals, fasts, worship services, pilgrimages to sacred rivers, and journeys to sacred shrines. ||2||1||57||8||21||7||57||93||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦੇ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ ।
You are the Great Giver, O Generous Lord God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਉਸ (ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Each and every instant, I humbly bow to You. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਦੰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I bow at the feet of the voluntary slave of the Lord; I beg him to bless me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੋ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਉ, ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਲਵਾਂ ।੩।
Show Mercy to me, that I may meet God, and gaze upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan every moment. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ, (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Without meditative remembrance on the Lord, one may live for millions of years, but his life would be totally useless.
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
But if he vibrates and meditates on the Lord of the Universe, for even a moment, then he shall live forever and ever. ||3||
ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਤਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਸੀਲੇ (ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਅੱਗੇ) ਭੇਟਾ ਰੱਖ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ
Chanting, penance, self-control, good deeds and charity - I sacrifice all these in fire; I dedicate all peace and places to Him.
ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਾ ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਵਾਂ ।
One who helps me to behold the Blessed Vision of my Beloved, for even an instant - I am a sacrifice to that Saint. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਹੁਣ (ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ?
You fool, why are you not meditating on the Lord now?
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਤੂੰ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਰਕ (ਵਰਗੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ) ਵਿਚ (ਸੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੰੂ) ਪੁੱਠਾ (ਲਟਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਤਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, (ਉਥੇ ਤੂੰ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
In the awful hell of the fire of the womb, you did penance, upside-down; each and every instant, you sang His Glorious Praises. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।
O my mind, sing forever the Songs of Joy of the Lord of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
All your disease, sorrow and sin will be erased, if you meditate on the Lord's Name, even for an instant. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਪਰਦਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਲਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਵਾਂ, ਤੇ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਲ) ਹਰ-ਭਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।੧।
The Guru has become merciful to me; He has removed the veils. Meeting with my Beloved, my mind blossoms forth in abundance. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਭੱੁਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਦਿਨ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
If I were to forget my Lord and Master, even for an instant, it would be like millions of days, tens of thousands of years.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ, ਤਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੨।੧।੨੪।
When I joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, I met my Lord. ||2||1||24||
ਹੁਣ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਘਾੜਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਜਾਨ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You are so beautiful, and You are so wise; You are elegant and all-knowing.
ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝੀ ।੧।
All the Yogis, spiritual teachers and meditators do not know even a bit of Your value. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੋਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ), ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
O my Enticing Lord, all beings are Yours - You save them.
ਤੇਰੀ ਰਤਾ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਮਿਹਰ (ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ) ਨਾਲ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਨਿਰਦਈ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੀ ਅੱਤਿਆਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Even a tiny bit of Your Mercy ends all cruelty and tyranny. You save and redeem millions of universes. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੋਹਨ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਪਲ ਪਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
I offer countless prayers; I remember You each and every instant.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੁੜ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੋਜ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
In an instant, He creates and destroys. Gazing upon His Wondrous Plays, my mind is fascinated. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਐਸਾ ਹੈਂ) ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Listening to His Praises, my mind is in utter ecstasy, and my heart is rid of pride and pain.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਸਾਹ ਅਸੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਹ (ਲੈਂਦਿਆਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
With each and every breath I take, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦਾ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦੀ, ਉਹ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He is not separated from me, even for an instant, and I never forget Him. He is always with me, wherever I go. ||1||
ਹੁਣ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਲਹਿ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
If the Word of God dwells within my heart for even an instant, all my hunger is relieved. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ!
O Treasure of Mercy, Master of Excellence, my Lord and Master, Ocean of peace, Lord of all.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
I obtain tens of thousands and millions of regal pleasures, if I gaze upon Your Blessed Vision, even for an instant.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਆਖੇਂ, ਹੇ ਸੇਵਕ! ਇਥੇ ਬੈਠ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਤਨਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ) ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।੨੩।੪੬।
When You, O God, say, "My servant, stay here with me", Nanak knows unlimited peace. ||2||23||46||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ
I cannot survive without Him, even for an instant; I shall never forget Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੨੫।੪੮।
Says Nanak, joining the Society of the Saints, I am enraptured, lovingly attuned to my Lord. ||2||25||48||
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਹਨ
The Lord is my Best Friend, my Buddy, my Companion. I sing the Glorious Praises of my Sovereign Lord King.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦੀ ।੧।
I shall not forget Him in my heart, even for an instant; I have met with the Perfect Guru. ||1||
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ? ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Administering the intoxicating drug, God Himself leads the mortals astray; they are reincarnated again and again.
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
He does not meditate in remembrance on the Lord, even for an instant, and so the Messenger of Death makes him suffer. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਘੜੀ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You do not contemplate your Lord and Master, even for an instant; it was He who gave you your body and soul. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪਾਪੀ! ਖਾਂਦਾ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਸੌਂਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਲਸੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
Eating, drinking and sleeping, you are happy, but contemplating the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you are miserable.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਹੀ ਤਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਦੀ ਛੋਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ-ਰੂਪ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The sight of him, even for an instant, cures the three fevers; his touch brings liberation from the deep dark pit of household affairs. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰੀ ਬੱਧੀ ਹੋਈ (ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਗੰਢ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ (ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪੇ੍ਰਮ ਦੀ ਗੰਢ) ਬੰਨ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ
The devotee can release anyone from my bondage, but I cannot release anyone from his.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਭ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹੈ ।
My Beloved is the Enticer of the mind; The Detached Lord God is the Embodiment of Supreme bliss.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Nanak lives by gazing upon the Lord; may I see Him for a moment, for even just an instant. ||2||2||9||9||13||9||31||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਮਾਣ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਤੱਕ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।
I am dishonored - I seek the Sanctuary of the One, the Guru, the True Guru, the Primal Being, the Giver of peace.
ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਹੁਣ) ਮੇਰੀ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਰਾਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੨।੨।੬।
In an instant, all my pains have been taken away; Nanak passes the night of his life in peace. ||2||2||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
He is imbued with His servants, day and night; He does not forget them from His Mind, even for an instant.
ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ ।
He is the Lord of the World, the Treasure of virtue; He is always with me. All glorious virtues belong to the Lord of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
No one can equal them; their devotional worship is accepted by my God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਵੇਖ, ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੌਤਕ ਬੜੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
So behold the Wondrous and Amazing Play of the Lord. In an instant, He distinguishes the genuine from the counterfeit.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਹਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੧।
The Word of the True Guru has become pleasing to my heart. The Lord God has showered me with His Grace. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਰ ਨਿਮਖ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ।
O my mind, vibrate and meditate on the Lord's Name every instant.
(ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਲੇਟਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਵਰਤਣ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
He made the earth its bed, and water for it to use.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾਓ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ ।੧।
Do not forget Him for an instant; serve the Lord of the World. ||1||
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
- the merits of all these are obtained by enshrining the Lord's Lotus Feet within the heart, even for an instant.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੋੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ (ਅਪਣੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
Meditating on the Lord of the Universe, all one's affairs are resolved. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ (ਤਾਂ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ, ਪਰ ਕਦੇ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ।
You obtained this human life, but you have not remembered the Lord in meditation, even for an instant.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਬੇੜੀ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
For the sake of pleasure, you have become subservient to your woman, and now your feet are bound. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ!) (ਤੈਥੋਂ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਹ ਤੁਲ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ; ਤੂੰ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ ।
Streams of Ambrosial Nectar flow; Your Treasures are unweighable and overflowing in abundance. You are the Farthest of the far, Infinite and Incomparably Beautiful.
ਤੰੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ; ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ,ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ) ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
You do whatever You please; You do not take advice from anyone else. In Your Home, creation and destruction happen in an instant.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਉਂ (ਇਤਨਾ) ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਟਾਂਦਾ ।
Why are you engrossed in sin and corruption? You are not detached, even for a moment!
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ । (ਭਜਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ (ਗਲ ਵਿਚ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ।੨।
Says Nanak, meditate, vibrate upon the Lord, and you shall not be caught in the noose of death. ||2||
