(ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸੁਭਾਗ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਜੋ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ (ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ)
Forgetting the Beloved, even for a moment, the mind is afflicted with terrible diseases.
(ਉਂਞ ਭੀ) ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਵੱਸੇ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ
How can honor be attained in His Court, if the Lord does not dwell in the mind?
ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਦਰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ
Without the Guru, the disease is not cured, and the pain of egotism is not removed.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
By Guru's Grace, He dwells in the mind, and one remains immersed in His Name.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ (ਭੀ) ਸੰਵਰ ਜਾਣਗੇ
All their affairs are brought to fruition, holding onto the Guru's Feet.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰ-ਸਰਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਾਹ (ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ।੨।
The diseases of ego and doubt are cast out; they shall not come and go in reincarnation. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਭਲਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ, ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through the Guru's Teachings, the True One abides within the mind. The Companionship of the Naam brings the most excellent honor.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।
Eradicate the disease of egotism, and chant the True Shabad, the Word of the True Lord. ||8||
ਜੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਰਾ ਰਖਾ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੁ-ਫਾੜ ਚਿਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ,
If my body were cut in half, if a saw was put to my head,
ਜੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਮਾਲਾ ਪਰਬਤ (ਦੀ ਬਰਫ਼) ਵਿਚ ਗਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
and if my body were frozen in the Himalayas-even then, my mind would not be free of disease.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆਨ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਚਮਕ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਚਾਨਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੂਪ) ਕੀਮਤੀ ਰਤਨ ਲੱਭ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ
This spiritual wisdom given by the Guru shines forth, and the darkness has been dispelled. I have found the Priceless Jewel of the Lord.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ
The sickness of my ego has been dispelled, and my pain is over and done. Through the Guru's Teachings, my identity has consumed my identical identity.
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
When I dwell upon Him in my soul, all my sorrows depart.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The sickness of anxiety and the disease of ego are cured; He Himself cherishes me. ||2||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ
Walking on the Lord's Path, my doubts have all been cast out.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਾਨਸਿਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
The True Guru has inspired me to hear the Treasure of the Naam; all my illness has been dispelled. ||2||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਫੱਕੀ ਹੈ) ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਜੀਵ-ਬਾਲ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਫੱਕੀ ਦੀ) ਤਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
God, the Great Giver, has given me His Hand.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ।
He has erased all the sickness of birth and death.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੂਪ) ਦਵਾਈ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ,
Your humble servant, who obtains the Medicine of the Naam,
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਉਸ ਦਵਾਈ ਨਾਲ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ।
is rid of the illnesses of countless lifetimes and incarnations.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
By His Grace, His devotees become famous and acclaimed.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ, ਉੇਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਲਸ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।੧।
Joining the Society of the Saints, I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; the disease of laziness has disappeared. ||1||
ਕੱਤਕ (ਦੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਰੁੱਤ) ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਆਪਣੇ) ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਦੋਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
In the month of Katak, do good deeds. Do not try to blame anyone else.
ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆਂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Forgetting the Transcendent Lord, all sorts of illnesses are contracted.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਡੀ ਮਤਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਦੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I am egotistical and conceited, and my intellect is ignorant. Meeting the Guru, my selfishness and conceit have been abolished.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਦੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
The illness of egotism is gone, and I have found peace. Blessed, blessed is the Guru, the Sovereign Lord King. ||1||
(ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ
Pain, disease and fear do not affect them at all.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
They meditate on the Ambrosial Name of the Lord within their hearts. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਰੋਗ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ (ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ) ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Pain, disease and sorrow come when one forgets the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਵੀਏ ਤਦੋਂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Eternal bliss comes when one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God's Name,
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੀ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
the dwelling of all disease is destroyed. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ਹ
For their own purposes, they enshrine the Lord in the heart;
(ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਦ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
all pain, suffering and disease are taken away. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord bestowed His Mercy, and led me to meet the Guru.
। (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਬਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਬਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
By His power, no disease afflicts me. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਰੋਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਘਿਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Gripped by disease, they invoke the Name.
ਪਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ, (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ-ਮੁਕਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੨।
But those who are intoxicated with vice shall find no home, no place of rest. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੋਗ (ਆ ਘੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
Forgetting the Lord, all sorts of pains and diseases come.
(ਪਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਜਮ (ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਭਉ) ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁੱਕਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ) ।੨।
Serving God, the Messenger of Death will not even approach you. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
Sickness afflicts those who commit sins;
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ (ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਲਾਈ) ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਠੱਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ) । ।੩।
God Himself sits as the Judge. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
With your tongue, continually chant the Lord's Name.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Disease shall depart, and you shall be saved. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The disease of your ego shall be eradicated.
(ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਭੀ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੧।
By Guru's Grace, practice Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||1||
ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਧੀਕੀ ਸਹਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮਿੱਠਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਹਨ ।
To practice forgiveness is the true fast, good conduct and contentment.
(ਅਜੇਹੇ ਅਸਲ ਜੋਗੀ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਕੋਈ) ਰੋਗ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
Disease does not afflict me, nor does the pain of death.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੀ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ
One who forgets the Naam and indulges in pleasures,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ (ਕਦੇ ਹੀ) ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ (ਪਰ, ਹਾਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
shall find no peace, even in dreams; his body shall become diseased. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Remembering, remembering Him in meditation, all diseases are healed.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਹੀ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਹਨ ।੬।
Meditating on His Feet, all comforts are enjoyed. ||6||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਮੁਰਾਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਐਬ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
All illnesses, sufferings and pains are dispelled, by chanting the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਤਾ ਟਿਕਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ (ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ) ।੩।
Prays Nanak, please be merciful to me, All-powerful Lord; You are the Wielder of all power. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਗ-ਨਾਸਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ,
One whose heart is filled with the medicine of the Naam,
ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ (ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ ।
is not infested with disease, even in his dreams.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਬਤ ਵਿਚ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
In the Company of the Holy, all diseases are cured.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਵੱਡੇ) ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ।੭।
O Nanak, one meets with the Holy, by highest destiny. ||7||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ,
The Naam is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਣੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ।
Singing the Glory of God is the embodiment of bliss and emancipation.
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ ਹਨ।
The slanderer of the Saint contracts all diseases.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The slanderer of the Saint is forever separated.
ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the Company of the Holy, one chants the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Such a devotee of the Lord is free of all disease.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਰੋਗ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who, by Guru's Grace, is cured of the disease of ego
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰੋਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
- O Nanak, that person is forever healthy. ||2||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਰੱਖੋ,
Keep faith in the One Lord within your mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਣਗੇ ।੧।
All disease, O Nanak, shall then be dispelled. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
All sorts of remedies have not cured the disease
ਉਹ ਰੋਗ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਵਰਤਿਆਂ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
- the disease is cured only by giving the medicine of the Lord's Name.
ਦੁੱਖ, ਰੋਗ, ਡਰ ਤੇ ਵਹਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Sorrow, sickness, fear and doubt depart.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ 'ਸਾਧ' ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ;
He is called a Holy person; his actions are immaculate and pure.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਵਸਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ,
This body is the embodiment of pleasure and pain.
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦਾ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਲੰਮਾ ਰੋਗ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ।
It suffers from the chronic and incurable disease of Maya.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨ-ਦੇ-ਮੁਰੀਦ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ
Deep within the mind is the disease of ego; the self-willed manmukhs, the evil beings, are deluded by doubt.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ।੧।
O Nanak, this disease is eradicated, only when one meets the True Guru, our Holy Friend. ||1||
ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਸਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਹੁਣ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ;
When someone understands his own self,
ਰੋਗ ਤੇ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਤਾਪ (ਹੁਣ) ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ ।੨।
he no longer suffers from illness and the three fevers. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਦੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ, (ਮਾਨੋ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਉੱਚੇ ਮੰਡਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਭਾਵ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My heart is illuminated by spiritual wisdom; meeting the Guru, I meditate in the Sky of the Tenth Gate.
ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।
The diseases of corruption, fear and bondage have run away; my mind has come to know peace in its own true home. ||1||
ਜੋ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਸਰਧਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਦਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Whoever is born is afflicted by disease,
ਤੇ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
tortured by the pain of egotism and Maya.
(ਹੇ ਮਾਂ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
Pain and disease have left my body, and my mind has become pure; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ । ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ।੧।
I am in bliss, meeting with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and now, my mind does not go wandering. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਰਮਾਏ ਵਲੋਂ) ਕੰਗਾਲ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੋਗ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ
My True Guru is always merciful; He has saved me, the meek one.
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪਾਇਆ (ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He has cured me of my disease, and I have obtained the greatest peace; He has placed the Ambrosial Name of the Lord in my mouth. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
With your ears, listen to the Ambrosial Sermon.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Listening to it, your mind shall be filled with bliss, and the troubles and diseases of your mind shall all depart. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
You enter into my mind, by Your Kind Mercy.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all diseases are destroyed. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ
I have obtained the Perfect Guru, O my Siblings of Destiny.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
All illness, sorrows and sufferings are dispelled, in the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਲੱਖ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਤਾ ਕੁ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
If the Invisible and Infinite Lord dwells within my mind, even for a moment,
ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਰੋਗ ਸਭ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
then all my pains, troubles, and diseases vanish. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾਉਣੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ
Inwardly and outwardly, He is my companion and my helper; He is the One to be realized.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Adoring Him, my mind is cured of all its ailments. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ
As Gurmukh, my mind is pleased with the Lord.
ਮੇਰੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਵਾਲਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਮੈਂ ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੩।
My diseases are cured, and my pains are taken away. ||3||
(ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਨੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿੱਥ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਹੈ ।
The mind is diseased with doubt, superstition and duality.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਪ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ
Without the Guru, it dwells in doubt, and contemplates duality.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਨੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਮਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ‘ਕੁਥਾਇ ਦਾਨ’ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਸੰਕੋਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ । ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੱਡਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ (ਵਿਦਵਾਨ) ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਵਿਦਵਾਨ) ਹਾਂ ।
Mamma: You have been cheated out your intellect, you fool, and you are afflicted with the great disease of ego.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਵੱਸਦੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਿਆ, (ਇਸੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਾ) ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ) ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੈ ।੭।
Within your innermost self, you do not recognize God, and you compromise yourself for the sake of Maya. ||7||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਵਿਹੁਲਾ ਰੁੱਖ (ਉੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ । (ਧੱਕਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਇਸ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ) ਰਾਜੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਉਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਲੜ ਲੜ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Their hearts and minds were filled with the horribly poisonous essence of anger. The kings fought their wars and obtained only pain.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਮਤਾ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਧਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਧਦਾ ਹੈ
Their minds were afflicted with the illness of egotism, and their self-conceit and arrogance increased.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਕਰਤਾਰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਹੱਥ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ (ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਕਾਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਲੁਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ) ।
The Creator Lord knows everything, although they may try to hide their sins and the causes of their diseases.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੧੧।੧੮।
O Nanak, those Gurmukhs whose hearts are pure, obtain the Lord, Har, Har, by devotional worship. ||4||11||18||
ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਇਕ ਲੰਮਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਲਾ-ਇਲਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
Ego is a chronic disease, but it contains its own cure as well.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
If the Lord grants His Grace, one acts according to the Teachings of the Guru's Shabad.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਅਜਬ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਬਿਪਤਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ) ਇਲਾਜ (ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ) ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਕਾਰਨ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਜੇ (ਅਸਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ) ਸੁਖ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਦੁੱਖ) ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ।
Suffering is the medicine, and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਕਰਨਹਾਰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ (ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭੇਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ), ਮੇਰੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਾਂ) । ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਝ ਲਵਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਵਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ) ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਫਬਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।੧।
You are the Creator Lord; I can do nothing. Even if I try, nothing happens. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਇਕ ਬੜਾ ਲੰਮਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬੜਾ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਦਾਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।
Intellectual egotism and great love for Maya are the most serious chronic diseases.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The Lord's Name is the medicine, which is potent to cure everything. The Guru has given me the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰਲੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਸਹਮ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
O Dear One, I am not high or low or in the middle. I am the Lord's slave, and I seek the Lord's Sanctuary.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਊਚਤਾ ਨੀਚਤਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਚਿੰਤਾ, ਵਿਛੋੜਾ, ਰੋਗ ਆਦਿਕ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਭੁਲਾ ਚੁਕੇ ਹੰੁਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am detached from the world; I have forgotten sorrow, separation and disease. ||1||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਿੰਦਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
One who understands God, who lovingly centers his mind on the Lord night and day, is called a Brahmin.
(ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ‘ਸੱਚ’ ਰੂਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹ
Consulting the True Guru, he practices Truth and self-restraint, and he is rid of the disease of ego.
ਸਮਰੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਣੇ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ
The all-powerful Lord has shown Mercy, and my cries of suffering are ended.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਕਲੇਸ਼, ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।
My fevers, pains and diseases are gone, by the Grace of the Perfect Guru.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਕੋਈ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Suffering, pain, terrible disease and Maya do not afflict them.
ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਭਗਤਾਂ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ;
This is the Support of the devotees, that they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮੁਕ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ-ਰੂਪ ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The Guru has given me the medicine of the inexhaustible treasure of the Naam.
(ਇਸ ਦਵਾਈ ਨਾਲ) ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ (ਅਸਾਡਾ ਇਹ) ਵੱਡਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਰੋਗ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
He has banished the great and terrible disease.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ (ਪਹਿਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਮਿੱਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ) ਦੁੱਖ ਲਾਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Millions of sins are erased, by serving You; the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan drives away sorrow.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਬੜਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰੋਗ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।
Chanting Your Name, I have obtained supreme peace, and my anxieties and diseases have been cast out. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੜ ਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ
The Perfect Lord God pervades his mind and body; he does not look upon any other.
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ।੨।੧੪।
Hell and disease do not afflict one who joins the Company of the Lord's humble servants, O Nanak; the Lord attaches him to the hem of His robe. ||2||14||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Place the Guru's feet within your heart,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਗ਼ਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
and all illness, sorrow and pain shall be dispelled; all suffering shall come to an end. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ (ਸਰੀਰਕ) ਰੋਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਕੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The body is tied up with emotional attachment, disease and sorrow, and so it is lured into countless reincarnations.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸ (ਇਸ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਨਵਿਰਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਫਰਿਆਦ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।
He finds no place of rest without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; to whom should he go and cry? ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ, ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ, ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Pain, disease and fear do not cling to those who meditate on the Lord, Har, Har.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰ ਲਿਆ (ਸਮਝੋ), ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।
By the Grace of the Saints, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean, and obtain their pre-ordained destiny.
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਭੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
All the pain, hunger, and disease of the Lord's servant are eradicated; the bonds of the humble beings are torn away.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ । ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤਰ ਜਾਏ ।
By the Lord's Grace, one becomes the Lord's devotee; beholding the face of the Lord's humble devotee, the whole world is saved and carried across. ||4||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਵਾਂਗ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the heart-lotus blossoms forth, and through the Name of the Lord, I have obtained the nine treasures.
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਲਹਿ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਟਿਕਵੇਂ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।
The disease of egotism has been eradicated, suffering has been eliminated, and I have entered the Lord's state of celestial Samaadhi.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Speaking as Gurmukh, speaking as Gurmukh, chanting the Naam, all disease is eradicated.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਨਰੋਆ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
As Gurmukh, chanting the Naam, all disease is eradicated, and the body becomes free of disease.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ) ਰੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ-ਰੂਪ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦਾ
This body is filled with disease; without the Word of the Shabad, the pain of the disease of ego does not depart.
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
When one meets the True Guru, then he becomes immaculately pure, and he enshrines the Lord's Name within his mind.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
I am a sacrifice to the Guru, who has totally cured me of the fatal disease of egotism.
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ) ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਾਰਾ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।
Glorious and great are the virtues of the Guru, who has eradicated evil, and instructed me in virtue.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ
Egotism is such a terrible disease; in the love of duality, they do their deeds.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਹੀ ਮੋਏ ਜਾਣੋ । ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs are in a living death; forgetting the Lord, they suffer in pain. ||2||
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਸ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
In egotism, one is assailed by fear; he passes his life totally troubled by fear.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲਈ) ਇਕ ਤਗੜਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਫੇਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Egotism is such a terrible disease; he dies, to be reincarnated - he continues coming and going.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ) ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ।
The True Guru is the ocean of peace in the world; there is no other place of rest and peace.
ਜਗਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਧਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
The world is afflicted with the painful disease of egotism; dying, only to be reborn, it cries out in pain. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ-ਚਿੱਤ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One whose mind is comforted in the Society of the Saints, believes that all are joyful.
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ) ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
One whose mind is afflicted by the disease of egotism, cries out in birth and death. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਹ ਦਵਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
The medicine of the Naam, and the Immaculate Water of Ambrosial Nectar, are obtained through the Guru's Gate. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ), ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੫।੧੭।੨੮।
Says Nanak, one who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead, meets with the Guru, and his diseases are cured. ||5||17||28||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।
My sufferings have come to an end, and all diseases have been eradicated.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ, ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ (ਇਹ) ਮੇਹਨਤ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਸਫਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
God has showered me with His Grace. Twenty-four hours a day, I worship and adore my Lord and Master; my efforts have come to fruition. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ) ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on my Guru, the True Guru, all pains have been eradicated.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੇ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The fever and the disease are gone, through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, and I have obtained the fruits of my mind's desires. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਉੱਤੇ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਉਸਨੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ।
The Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, has forgiven me, and all diseases have been cured.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Those who come to the Sanctuary of the True Guru are saved, and all their affairs are resolved. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਦਵਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ-ਦਾਰੂ ਨੇ
The Lord, Har, Har, gave me the medicine of His Name,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰ-) ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।
which has cured all disease.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਡੱਕਾ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
The Transcendent Lord has given me His support.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।
The house of pain and disease has been demolished.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ
Nanak has entered God's Sanctuary.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ।੨।੨੪।੮੮।
It has eradicated all disease. ||2||24||88||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿੱਠੇ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਖਾਧਾ, ਉਸ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
He thinks that his food is so sweet, O Beloved, but it makes his body ill.
ਉਹ ਰੋਗ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ (ਰੋਗ) ਤੋਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਗ਼ਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
It turns out to be bitter, O Beloved, and it produces only sadness.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਤੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ;
The disease of doubt does not depart, and they find only pain and more pain.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ-ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
O Nanak, if the Gracious Lord forgives, then one is united in Union with the Word of the Shabad. ||1||
ਹਰੀ-ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ-ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਾਂ ।
I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and constantly chant the Lord's Name; through the Guru's Teachings, I enjoy the Lord's Love constantly.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ (ਭਜਨ-ਰੂਪ) ਦਵਾਈ ਖਾਧਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
I take the medicine of meditation on the Lord's Name, which has cured all diseases and multitudes of sufferings.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚਿੰਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਗ਼ਮ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਲੋਭ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
I was anxious, and now I am free of anxiety; I was worried, and now I am free of worry; my grief, greed and emotional attachments are gone.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਜਮ-ਰਾਜ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੩।
By His Grace, I am cured of the disease of egotism, and the Messenger of Death no longer terrifies me. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
Now, I contemplate and meditate on the Lord, the Saviour Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He purifies sinners in an instant, and cures all diseases. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, the body and mind are rejuvenated, and sorrow departs.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, chant the Praises of the Lord, and all your sickness shall vanish. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਰੋਗ, ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ, ਬੁਢੇਪਾ, ਮੌਤ (—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਮ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ
Disease, sorrow, pain, old age and death do not even approach the humble servant of the Lord.
ਉਹ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਡਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧।
They remain fearless, in the Love of the One Lord; O Nanak, they have surrendered their minds to the Lord. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ । (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Sing the sublime Praises of the Lord, and your disease shall be eradicated.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੰਵਰ ਜਾਣਗੇ, ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ, (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਮੂੰਹ ਭੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਰਹੇਗਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Your face shall become radiant and bright, and your mind shall be immaculately pure. You shall be saved here and hereafter. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹ
My mind is in love with the Lord's lotus feet; I have met the Beloved Guru, the noble, heroic being.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧੦।੧੫।
Nanak celebrates in bliss; chanting and meditating on the Lord, all sickness has been cured. ||2||10||15||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
Such is the blessing my God has bestowed upon me.
ਕਿ) ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ—ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
He has totally banished the five evils and the illness of egotism from my body. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਦੋਂ (ਕਿਸੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਉਤੇ) ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਥੋੜੀ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ
When the Lord of the world bestowed just a tiny bit of His Mercy, for just an instant, then I meditated on the Praise of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ (ਤੇ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੨।੨।
The Lord and Master has met servant Nanak, and the pain of the sickness of egotism has been eliminated. ||2||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜਾਪ (ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ) ਤਪਾਣਾ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਕਸ਼ਟ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
The self-willed manmukh may perform chants, meditations, austere self-discipline, fasts and devotional worship, but his sickness does not go away.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Deep within him is the sickness of excessive egotism; in the love of duality he is ruined. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those beings, within whose inner selves my Lord, Har, Har, dwells - all their diseases are cured.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ (ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ।੧।
They alone become liberated, who meditate on the Name of the Lord; they obtain the supreme status. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਦੇ, ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ, ਦਾਸ (ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਨਰੋਏ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
O my Lord, the Lord's humble servants become healthy.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Those who meditate on my Lord, Har, Har, through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, are rid of the disease of ego. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The entire world is afflicted by the disease of egotism. They suffer the terrible pains of birth and death.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਇਸ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮੈਂ (ਅਜੇਹੇ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੩।
By Guru's Grace, a few rare ones are saved; I am a sacrifice to those humble beings. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗ਼ਮ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਭਾਰੀਆਂ
Sorrow, disease and the most terrible calamities
ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ।੩।
are removed by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ
Remembering, remembering the Lord in meditation, I live.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਰੋਗ ਗ਼ਮ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਾਪ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
All pain, disease and suffering is dispelled, meeting the Perfect Guru; sin has been eradicated. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
He has eradicated all illness, and healed me.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਿਰੋਆ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੩੩।੩੯।
O Nanak, He Himself has become my Savior. ||2||33||39||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੈ । (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Teachings of the Perfect Guru are perfect; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, day and night.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨੧।
Egotism and self-conceit are terrible diseases; tranquility and stillness come from within. ||21||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who constantly chants the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam with his tongue,
ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ ।੪।
is not touched or affected by Maya, the embodiment of disease. ||4||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੋ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।
The self-willed manmukhs practice devotional rituals without the True Guru, but without the True Guru, there is no devotion.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ, ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They are afflicted with the diseases of egotism and Maya, and they suffer the pains of death and rebirth.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Gurbani always seems so sweet; I have eradicated the sins from within.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਡਰ-ਸਹਿਮ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The disease of egotism is gone, fear has left, and I am absorbed in celestial peace.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ, ਕੋਈ ਭੁੱਖ, ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Neither pain, nor hunger, nor disease afflicts me. I have found the Sanctuary of the Lord, the ocean of peace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Lord, Nanak is imbued with His Love; his mind's anxieties are dispelled. ||1||
(ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਭੋਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਚਸਕਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਗ ਵਧਦਾ ਹੈ,
She finds it sweet, and eats it up; her excessive sensuality only makes her disease worse.
(ਭਾਵ), ਉਹ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਬਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
She forsakes the Lord, her sublime Husband, and then later, she suffers the pain of separation from Him.
ਉਥੇ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ, ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਆਦਿਕ—ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ । (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
There, neither pain nor hunger nor disease will afflict you; enshrine love for the Lord's Lotus Feet.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
Within my heart, I meditate on the Lotus Feet of God.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ ।੧।
Disease is gone, and I have found total peace. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
The disease is gone; God Himself took it away.
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I sleep in peace; peaceful poise has come to my home. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ) ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ।
The fever and sickness are gone, and the diseases are all dispelled.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Supreme Lord God has forgiven you, so enjoy the happiness of the Saints. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਧਿਆਵਣ-ਜੋਗ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਦੁੱਖ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Perfect Guru has shown mercy to me, and eradicated my pains and illnesses.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
My mind and body have been cooled and soothed, meditating on God, most worthy of meditation. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਇਕ ਐਸੀ) ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਕੋਈ ਭੀ) ਰੋਗ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
The Name of the Lord is the medicine to cure all disease; with it, no disease afflicts me.
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੨।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mind and body are tinged with the Lord's Love, and I do not suffer pain any longer. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸੋਟੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਸੋਟੀ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਸਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱੁਕ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ) ।
Worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har, Har, and you shall be free of disease.
ਇਸ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਨੇ (ਹਰੇਕ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
This is the Lord's healing rod, which eradicates all disease. ||1||Pause||
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀਲੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਦਵਾਈ ਵਰਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼, ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ,
I have given up all other efforts, and have taken the medicine of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ; ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ) ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੧।
Fevers, sins and all diseases are eradicated, and my mind is cooled and soothed. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਚਰਜ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ।
God Himself eradicated the disease; peace and tranquility have welled up.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
The Lord blessed me with the gifts of great, glorious radiance and wondrous form. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ (ਸਭ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਡਾ ਤੇਜ-ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਣੀ ਹੈ।
God Himself has heard the prayers of His humble devotees.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
He dispelled my disease, and rejuvenated me; His glorious radiance is so great! ||1||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਗਾਨੀ ਆਸ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ!
Renouncing egotistical pride and other anxieties, I have sought the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints.
ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Chanting, meditating on Your Name, O my Beloved, disease is eradicated from my body. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! (ਉਸ ਕੰਤ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਉਥੇ) ਚਾਉ (ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Night and day, the sounds of ecstasy resound and resonate; day and night, I am enraptured.
ਉਥੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਉਥੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਉਥੇ (ਕੋਈ) ਦੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ (ਕੰਤ) ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
Disease, sorrow and suffering do not afflict anyone there; there is no birth or death there.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
He alone knows God, and he alone is a Brahmin, who walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ (ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ (ਅਸਲ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ।
One whose heart is filled with the Lord, is freed of egotism and disease.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਕਮਾਈ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਬਣਿਆ ।
One who does not serve the True Guru, and who does not love the Word of the Shabad,
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਚਸਕਿਆਂ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੰਮਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਿਆ;
earns the very painful disease of egotism; he is so very selfish.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ) ਮਨ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
This is how I have joined my mind to the Lord.
ਕਿ ਇਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੋਹ, ਗ਼ਮ, ਰੋਗ, ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਇਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Attachment, sorrow, disease and public opinion do not affect me, and so, I enjoy the subtle essence of the Lord, Har, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾਰਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Pain is gone, and all illness is gone.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I have accepted the Will of God in my mind, associating with the Great Person, the Guru. ||1||Pause||
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਾਪਰਦੀ;
I am in bliss forever; I have no sorrow.
ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਕਦੇ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
The disease of ego never afflicts me. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
That humble being who takes the medicine of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ (ਮਾਨਸਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
- all his diseases are eradicated. ||3||
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਠਗਬੂਟੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਜੀਵ) ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਬੁੱਝਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ‘ਹਾਇ ਹਾਇ’ ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
You tell lies, and do not practice what you preach. Your desires are not satisfied - what a shame.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ) ਲਾ-ਇਲਾਜ ਰੋਗ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵੱਡੇ ਖਈ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
You have contracted an incurable disease; slandering the Saints, your body is wasting away; you are utterly ruined. ||3||
ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ।
The diseases of egotism and possessiveness do not afflict
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
one who worships the Lord. Fear of the Messenger of Death runs away.
(ਹੇ ਝੱਲੇ ਜੀਵ!) ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਖਿਲਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You act in corruption, and put on ostentatious shows, but without awareness of the Shabad, you have fallen into confusion.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ ਵੱਡਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ । ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਇਹ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ।੬।
You suffer great pain from the disease of egotism. Following the Guru's Teachings, you shall be rid of this disease. ||6||
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਬੁੱਤ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
This world is a puppet of clay, Yogi; the terrible disease, the desire for Maya is in it.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਤਿਆਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਭੇਖ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੯।
Making all sorts of efforts, and wearing religious robes, Yogi, this disease cannot be cured. ||9||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਦਿੱਸਣ, ਉਂਞ ਮਨੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਣ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਇਉਂ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਸਮਝੋ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੁਆਰੀਆ ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਧਨ ਹਾਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who are outwardly pure and yet polluted within, lose their lives in the gamble.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਰੋਗ ਖਾਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ) ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They contract this terrible disease of desire, and in their minds, they forget about dying.
(ਗੋਪਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਵਾਂ? (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਐਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰਾ (ਅਸਲ ਸਾਥੀ) ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਮੇ (ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣਿਆ) ਅਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਦੇ ਬਣੇਗਾ ।
No one is mine - whose gown should I grasp and hold? No one ever was, and no one shall ever be mine.
(ਇਸ ਕੂੜੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਨਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਦੁਚਿੱਤਾਪਨ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਅਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਦਬਾ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Coming and going, one is ruined, afflicted with the disease of dual-mindedness.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He implants the Mantra of the Lord's Name, and eradicates the illness of egotism.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਇਹ ਮੇਲ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, he alone meets the True Guru, who has such union pre-ordained. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
May I sing Your Glorious Praises day and night; please commit me to this task.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਏ ।
Associating with the humble Saints, the disease of egotism is eradicated.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰ-) ਰੋਗ ਸਹਸਾ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Disease, sorrow and pain run away, when the Name dwells within the mind.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰਾ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰਚ-ਮਿਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone attains his Beloved, who loves the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਹਰਾਮਖ਼ੋਰੀ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
The incurable disease has arisen in your body; it cannot be removed or overcome.
ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੜਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੮।
Forgetting God, one endures utter agony; this is the essence of reality which Nanak has realized. ||2||8||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਣ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ; ਇਹ ਗੀਤ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਗ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
He hears the songs and tastes the flavors, but these flavors are useless and insipid, and bring only disease to the body.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
One who loves the Truth and speaks the Truth, escapes from the sorrow of separation.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਭੂਤ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ) ਪਸ਼ੂ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ।
The self-willed manmukh is dishonored, a beast, a demon.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਕ ਫੁਰਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਅੱਤ ਭੈੜਾ ਰੋਗ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
Trapped by hope and desire, he practices falsehood, and is afflicted by the terrible disease of corruption. ||7||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕਲਾ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁੰਝਦਾ, ਤੇ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ (ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
The Gurmukh understands, and does not suffer the disease.
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਇਸ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਪੌੜੀ (ਦਾ ਭੇਤ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।
How rare are those who understand this ladder of the Guru.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜਿਊ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
And in the midst of hope, remain unmoved by hope.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰੋ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਹਮ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ । ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ (ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ।੯।
Serve the Eradicator of cynicism and suffering, and you shall never again be afflicted by the disease. ||9||
ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He remains forever immersed in the Lord.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੯।
By Guru's Grace, one is blessed with glorious greatness; he is not afflicted by the disease of egotism. ||9||
(ਤਿਆਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਿਤਾਂਦਾ,
and wears religious robes, but he does not live to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਚਸਕਿਆਂ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਭਾਰੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੦।
Deep with the nucleus of his being is the great disease; he suffers terrible pain, and eventually sinks into the manure. ||10||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਨਿਰਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind and body suffer in pain.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Attached to the love of Maya, he earns nothing but disease.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ (ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ) ਵੈਰੀ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਵਿਛੋੜਾ (ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ।
The evil person is engrossed in the love of duality; through the disease of egotism, he suffers separation.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ (ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ) ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The True Lord King is my friend; meeting with Him, I am so happy. ||3||
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਣ, ਜੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੋਵੇ,
Even if one were to enjoy all pleasures, and be master of the entire earth,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਰੋਗ (ਸਮਾਨ) ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਮੁਰਦਿਹਾਣ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੨।
O Nanak, all of that is just a disease. Without the Naam, he is dead. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।
O my Beloved, grant Your Grace, and give me understanding.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹਉਮੈ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਰੋਗੀ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਰੋਗ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The world was created in the disease of egotism; without the Word of the Shabad, the disease is not cured. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed manmukh is afflicted with the disease of duality forever; the entire universe is diseased.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਇਹ) ਰੋਗ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
The Gurmukh understands, and is cured of the disease, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਈ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਭੇਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਥਾਂ ਥਾਂ) ਭੌਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
Trying on all sorts of religious robes, they wander around day and night, but the disease of their egotism is not cured.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
Mankind is afflicted with the disease of egotism.
ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਨੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
The disease of sexual desire overwhelms the elephant.
(ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖਣ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਤੰਗੇ (ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਉਤੇ) ਸੜ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Because of the disease of vision, the moth is burnt to death.
(ਘੰਡੇ ਹੇੜੇ ਦੀ) ਆਵਾਜ਼ (ਸੁਣਨ) ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਿਰਨ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Because of the disease of the sound of the bell, the deer is lured to its death. ||1||
ਉਸ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕਣ ਤੋਂ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Entangled in disease, they cannot stay still, even for an instant.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਹ) ਰੋਗ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੩।
Without the True Guru, the disease is never cured. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਟੱੁਟ ਗਏ ।
Reaching the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mortal's bonds are broken.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ,) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੪।੭।੨੦।
Says Nanak, the Guru cures him of the disease. ||4||7||20||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ-ਦਾਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਰੋਗੀ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
God eradicates the disease from the diseased person.
ਦੁਖੀਏ ਦਾ ਗ਼ਮ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
God takes away the sorrows of the suffering.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Why worry about disease, when the Lord Himself protects us?
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੋਈ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
That person whom the Lord protects, does not suffer pain and sorrow.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਭੋਜਨ) ਖਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਪੇਟ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁੱਝਦੀ (ਰੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ) ਸਰੀਰਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Without eating, hunger is not satisfied.
ਜੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।
When the disease is cured, then the pain goes away.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਮ (ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ) ।
They are forever in bliss, and do not suffer at all.
ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੋਈ ਦਰਦ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
No pain, sorrow or disease afflicts them.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੀ (ਹਉਮੈ-) ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ, ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਝਗੜਾ-ਬਹਸ (ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ) ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Wandering around at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, the mortal is not cured of his disease. Reading scripture, he gets involved in useless arguments.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਦੀ ਝਾਕ ਇਕ ਬੜਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੁਥਾਜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।
The disease of duality is so very deadly; it causes dependence on Maya. ||8||
ਜੇਹੜਾ (ਵੱਡ-ਭਾਗੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਹਉਮੈ-) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who becomes Gurmukh and praises the True Shabad with the True Lord in his mind is cured of his disease.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਬੁਢੇਪਾ-ਰੂਪ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਗਿਆ,
As long as the disease of old age has not come to the body,
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਪਕੜਿਆ,
and as long as death has not come and seized the body,
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Associating with the Saint Guru, suffering and sickness are ended.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।
Servant Nanak merges with his Husband Lord, in the Yoga of intuitive ease. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤਾਂ) ਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
This body is built of air and water.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਦੀ) ਕਰੜੀ ਪੀੜ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The body is afflicted with the terribly painful illness of egotism.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਦਵਾਈ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Gurmukh has the Medicine: singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੩।
Granting His Grace, the Guru has cured the illness. ||3||
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ । (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
O Dear Lord of the Universe, lead me to join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, so that I may meditate on You, Lord.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I am cured of the disease of egotism, and I have found peace; I have intuitively entered into the state of Samaadhi. ||1||Pause||
(ਚੰਚਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਰੋਗ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।
The disease is so deadly; how can I find the courage?
(ਮੇਰੇ ਇਸ) ਰੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He knows my disease, and only He can take away the pain.
ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰ ਜੋ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ,
They think it is sweet, so they eat the bitter.
ਉਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਭੋਗ ਨੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।
The bitter disease grows in the body.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਖਾਣ-ਪੀਣ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਚਸਕਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ) ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੜਾ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਅਸਰ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆ ਗ੍ਰਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Eating anything other than the Name, disease runs to afflict the body.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, whoever takes the Praise of the Shabad as his spices and flavors - the Lord unites him in His Union. ||1||
ਤੇ ਇਕ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਦ ਤਕ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਰੋਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਰੋਗ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਕਾਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ)
Another pain is the disease consuming my body.
ਹੇ ਭੋਲੇ ਵੈਦ! ਤੂੰ ਦਵਾਈ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਹ (ਕਿਸ ਕਿਸ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ?
O foolish doctor, don't give me medicine. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ (ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਰਸ ਮਾਣਨੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ
Forgetting his Lord and Master, the mortal enjoys sensual pleasures;
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਲਗ ਪਈਆਂ ।
then, disease rises up in his body.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ-ਪਰਨੇ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They are stricken with the great disease of egotism; they are hit on the head by the Messenger of Death.
। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦੇ ।੨।
Those who follow the Guru's Teachings are never separated from the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. They dwell on the Naam, night and day. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those who chant and meditate on the Lord - O Lord, in Your Mercy, please unite me with them.
ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾ ।੨।
Gazing upon them, I am at peace; the pain and disease of egotism are gone. ||2||
(ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਬੜਾ ਭਾਰੀ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ ।
The world is suffering from the terrible disease of egotism.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਇਹ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
By Guru's Grace, this disease is cured.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ)! ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਲੱਭ
O physician, you are a competent physician, if you first diagnose the disease.
ਦਵਾਈ ਭਾਲ ਲੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ
Prescribe such a remedy, by which all sorts of illnesses may be cured.
ਜਿਸ ਦਵਾਈ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਰੋਗ ਉਠਾਏ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ ।
Administer that medicine, which will cure the disease, and allow peace to come and dwell in the body.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਏਂ ਤਾਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਹਕੀਮ ਅਖਵਾ (ਅਖਵਾਣ ਦਾ ਹੱਕਦਾਰ ਹੈਂ) ।
Only when you are rid of your own disease, O Nanak, will you be known as a physician. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਪਰਨੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
They stubbornly practice ritualistic postures, standing on their heads.
(ਪਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਗੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
They are afflicted with the disease of egotism, and their faults are not covered up.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ (ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ ।
The disease of egotism is deep within the mind; the self-willed manmukhs and the evil beings are deluded by doubt.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧੂ ਸੱਜਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ ਇਹ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ (ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
O Nanak, the disease is cured only by meeting with the True Guru, the Holy Friend. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ) ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬਹੁਤ ਭੜਕ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ । ਬਰਫ਼ ਵਰਗਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇਹ, (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।
The powerful fire of corruption is raging violently within; the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the ice water which cools and soothes.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਰੇਕ) ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
My mind and body are calm and tranquil; the disease has been cured, and now I sleep in peace. ||3||
ਹੇ ਫਰੀਦ! ਬੁਰਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਕਰ । ਗੁੱਸਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਆਉਣ ਦੇਹ ।
Fareed, answer evil with goodness; do not fill your mind with anger.
ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਭਾਵ, ਚੰਗਾ ਗੁਣ) ਸਾਂਭਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭੮।
Your body shall not suffer from any disease, and you shall obtain everything. ||78||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਇਕਾਗਰ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਇਕਾਗਰ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ,
Those who meditate on the Lord single-mindedly, with one-pointed concentration, link their consciousness to the True Guru.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They are rid of pain, hunger, and the great illness of egotism; lovingly attuned to the Lord, they become free of pain.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਇਸ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Within the minds of the faithless cynics is the disease of egotism; these evil people wander around lost, deluded by doubt.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਾਕਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੀ) ਸੱਜਣ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨੯।
O Nanak, this disease is eradicated only by meeting with the True Guru, the Holy Friend. ||29||
