ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ । (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ) ਤੌਖ਼ਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।
This world is engrossed in corruption and cynicism. Only those who know God are saved.
(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਜਗਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ (ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੨।
Only those who are awakened by the Lord to drink in this Sublime Essence, come to know the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||2||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ
They contemplate the Unspoken Speech, merging in absorption in the True Guru.
ਤੇ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਰੂਪ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਆਦਰ ਮਾਣ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
Drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar, they are contented; they go to the Court of the Lord in robes of honor. ||7||
ਇਸ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰੋ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵੇ
Those who have good destiny pre-ordained and inscribed on their foreheads, grasp it and keep it enshrined in the heart.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਪਵਿਤਰ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਕਣੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
Through the Guru's Teachings, they intuitively taste the sublime, exquisite and ambrosial sermon of the Lord.

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I chant the Bani of the Lord's Word.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
The Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ ! ਆਵੋ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲਵੋ
Come, O Saints, and lead me to my Lord's Embrace.
ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਵੋ
Recite to me the Sermon of my Beloved.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
Joining the Sat Sangat, I meditate on the Lord's Name.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਮਨ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।
O Nanak, I listen and chant the Lord's Sermon; through the Guru's Teachings, I am fulfilled by the Name of the Lord. ||4||6||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁੱਕਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਮਨ ਹਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
Singing Your Glorious Praises, my mind is rejuvenated.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੇੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।
Hearing Your Sermon, all filth is removed.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ-ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ-ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਭੀ) ਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਦਾਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who continually chant the Ambrosial Words of Nectar see and behold this Amrit everywhere with their eyes.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
They continually chant the Ambrosial Sermon day and night; chanting it, they cause others to hear it. ||2||
ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਜਿਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਭੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਭੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹਨ) ।
The Word of His Bani belongs to Him; in Him, it is diffused.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੇ ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Your Speech cannot be spoken; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is chanted. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਹਨ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਉੱਚੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ।
The Speech of the Lord is the most sublime speech, free of any attributes.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ,
Vibrate on it, meditate on it, and join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੱਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ (ਤੇ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ।੧।
Cross over the terrifying world-ocean, listening to the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who chants the Speech of the Lord
ਉਹ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
- that humble servant is pleasing to my conscious mind.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My Lord and Master is the Perfect True Guru. My mind works to serve the Guru.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਮਲ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
I massage and wash the Feet of the Guru, who recites the Sermon of the Lord. ||2||
ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੰਗਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He Himself created the world, O my Lord of the Universe; the Lord gives His gifts to all who beg for them.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
His devotees have the Support of the Naam, O my Lord of the Universe; they beg for the sublime sermon of the Lord. ||2||
ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਲਾਹ ਲਈ
Listening to the Lord's sermon, my pollution has been washed away.
ਉਹ ਬੜੇ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ ।
I have become totally pure, and I now walk in peace.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ
Taking me by the arm, He has made me His Own.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
I continually chant and meditate on the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
The Ambrosial Pools of the celestial sermon
ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਚਸ਼ਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
- those who find them, drink them in. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Enshrine the Lord's Sermon within your heart,
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨ-ਲੋੜੀਂਦੇ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
and you shall obtain all the desires of your mind. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ
Millions of obstacles are removed in an instant,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
for those who listen to the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿਆਂ । (ਹੇ ਭੈਣ!) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।
I surrender my mind to Him; I place my wealth before Him. I totally renounce my selfish ways.
(ਹੇ ਭੈਣ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ (ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸੰਤ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਰਹਾਂ
One who teaches me the Sermon of the Lord God - night and day, I shall follow Him. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) । ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ) ਧਨਾਢ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ),
Those who listen to the Lord's Sermon are seen to be the wealthy people in this world.
ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਿਊਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
Everyone bows down to them, and adores them, night and day.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਰੌ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Their souls naturally delight in the Lord's Sermon.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
The Imperishable Lord abides with them. ||6||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ ।
I have obtained the treasure of all; His Speech is unspoken and subtle.
(ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਰਬ-ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਥੇ ਬਾਂਹ ਹੁਲਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮੌਜ-ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੭।
In the Court of the Lord, I am honored and glorified; I swing my arms in joy. ||7||
ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਝੜ ਜਾਣਗੇ ।
Your evil deeds and sins shall fall away, O my mind,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ
listening to the ambrosial speech in the Society of the Saints.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ) ਗੱਲਾਂ (ਹੋਰ) ਸਭ (ਗੱਲਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਹਨ ,
Highest of all is the Lord's Speech.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Hearing the Naam, pain and sorrow are removed.
ਜੋ ਜੋ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
whoever speaks of Him shall be liberated.
ਹੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! ਸੁਣ, ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
Listen, O friends, Nanak prays, to the wonderful story of the Holy. ||1||
ਜੋ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He implants the Sermon of the Lord in his heart.
ਉਹ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ (ਮਰਨ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ,
Such a Pandit is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again.
ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਰਾਹ) ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਕੰਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ (ਸੁਣ);
So do the Lord's Work, and listen to the Lord's Sermon.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
In the Lord's Court, O Nanak, your face shall be radiant. ||2||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰਾਜ-ਭੋਗ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਮਿਲ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ ।
So many realms of power, pleasures and great glories,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ-ਬਾਤ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ,
come to one whose mind is pleased with the Sermon of the Lord's Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ।
His Unspoken Speech cannot be understood; I meditate on the Feet of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡਿੱਗੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ।੧੬।
He is the Saving Grace of sinners, the Master of the masterless; Nanak has entered God's Sanctuary. ||16||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਆਖ—(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਉਸ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਣ ਜਿਸ (ਸਰੂਪ) ਵਰਗਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ? (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਤਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ, ਇਹ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ)
Unto whom should I speak Your speech, O Lord; it is beyond the three qualities. Is there anyone with such discerning wisdom?
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਜਿਤਨਾ ਕੁ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਲੀਤਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਉਤਨੀ ਕੁ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਝਲਕ ਵੇਖੀ ਹੈ ।੩।੩।੪੭।
Says Kabeer, as is the fuse which you apply, so is the flash you will see. ||3||3||47||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਇਕ ਐਸੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਨਿਰਾਲੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ
The description of the state of intuitive poise is indescribable and sublime.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਇਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਸਾਵੀਂ ਤੋਲੀ-ਮਿਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ । (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੁਖ-ਐਸ਼੍ਵਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ਕਿ ‘ਸਹਿਜ’ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਘਟੀਆ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਹੈ) । ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਵਧੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਕਿਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਇਹ ਹੌਲੇ ਮੇਲ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸੁਖ ਇਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
It is not measured, and it is not exhausted. It is neither light nor heavy. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
With your ears, listen to the Ambrosial Sermon.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Listening to it, your mind shall be filled with bliss, and the troubles and diseases of your mind shall all depart. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਆਓ, ਅਸੀਂ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਬੈਠੀਏ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰੀਏ,
Come, O Saints - let us join together and speak the Sermon of the Lord.
ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Night and day, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and ignore the criticism of others. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਦਿਉ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਾਂ ।
Bless servant Nanak with this gift, O God, that he may obtain, and enshrine in his heart, the dust of the feet of the Saints.
ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਾਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੱਥਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਰੱਖੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ ।੪।੨।੧੨੨।
Hear the Lord's Sermon with your ears, and behold the Blessed Vision of His Darshan with your eyes; place your forehead upon the Guru's Feet. ||4||2||122||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ । (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Sublime Sermon of the Lord is the best thing for the soul. All other tastes are insipid. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਕਥਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ) ਮਿਠਾਸ-ਭਰੀ ਹੈ, ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਲੋਕ (ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਕਥਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਉੱਦਮ ਨੂੰ (ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦੇ ।੧।
The worthy beings, heavenly singers, silent sages and the knowers of the six Shaastras proclaim that nothing else is worthy of consideration. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਏਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।
Haha: Understand the Lord's Sermon, you fool; only then shall you attain eternal peace.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਲੇਖੇ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਤਨੀ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਸ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦੀ ।੧੬।
The more the self-willed manmukhs read, the more pain they suffer. Without the True Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||16||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਈਆਂ ਹਨ,
The True Guru has preached the sermon of the Lord, O my dear beloved.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
I am a sacrifice to the Guru, O my dear beloved, who has united me with the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ਤੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ, (ਸਿਆਣਪ-ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ।
Inexpressible is the sermon of the inexpressible Lord; it cannot be known at all.
ਦੈਵੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ-ਚਿੱਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The demi-gods, mortal beings, angels and silent sages express it in their peaceful poise.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਹਰਿ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਚਰਜ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੇ ਉਹ ਬੋਲ-ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਗਏ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ?
O Father, tell me: where has it gone? It used to dwell within the body,
ਕਦੇ (ਉਹ ਸਮਾ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ) ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ-ਬਾਤਾਂ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਮੋਹ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਕ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ—ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕਿਤੇ ਲੋਪ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
and dance in the mind, teaching and speaking. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਇੱਕ-ਰਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ
The sermon of the Lord is the unstruck, endless song.
ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਹੰਸ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-) ਹੀਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੰਸ ਮੋਤੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਦੇਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ (ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ) ਨੂੰ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
By the True Guru-given spiritual wisdom, I know the Saints as the gods of gods. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਕਥਾ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਲੈ ਸਕਾਂ; ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ (ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਹ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O Lord, God of gods, grant me the Society of the Saints, the sublime essence of the Saints' conversation, and the Love of the Saints. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਨ-ਪਰਚਾਵੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹਨ ।
The Lord is my Love, the Lord is my way of life, the Lord is my speech and conversation.
ਬੱਸ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਏ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
By Guru's Grace, my mind is saturated with the Lord's Love; this is what makes up my service. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ ।
Listen to the sermon of the Lord, O mind, and enshrine the Shabad of His Word within your mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ । ਜਦੋਂ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ, ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਅਕਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੋਲਣੋਂ ਬਚੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
If your intellect remains stable and steady, then doubt shall depart from within you. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਰਾ! (ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ (ਅਜੇਹਾ ਸੱਜਣ) ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ,
O Siblings of Destiny, let anyone who can implant the Lord's Name within me, come and meet with me.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਸੱਜਣ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦੇ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ।
Unto my Beloved, I give my mind and body, and my very breath of life. He speaks to me of the sermon of my Lord God. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ—ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ (ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਮਝ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਹੈ ।
God's sermon is profound and unfathomable.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਸੁਣੀਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਮਝੀਦਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ) ਦੱਸਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ ।੧।
He is heard to be one thing, but He is understood to be something else again; He is beyond description and explanation. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅਨੋਖੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ
The speech of the humble devotees is sublime; they sing continually the wondrous, Unspoken Speech of the Lord.
(ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।
Their lives become fruitful; they save themselves, and all their generations. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਚਿੱਤਾ-ਪਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ) ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in duality and evil-mindedness; within them is the darkness of attachment.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ) ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਖਾਂਦੀ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ (ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੫।
They do not love the sermon of the humble Saints, and they are drowned along with their families. ||5||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਧਿਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ,
If only my friends and companions would come and unite me with my Lord God, O my soul.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ ।
I offer my mind to the one who recites the sermon of my Lord God, O my soul.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭਗਤ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਏ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ ।
Constantly and continuously, I serve the Lord's humble servant, who recites to me the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ, ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ) ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Hail, hail unto the Guru, the Guru, the Perfect True Guru, who fulfills Nanak's heart's desires. ||4||
ਜੋ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਮੰਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੈ,
I ask for the Lord's spiritual wisdom, and the Lord's sublime sermon; through the Name of the Lord, I have come to know His value and His state.
ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ । ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਅਜੇਹੀ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ-ਘੋੜੀ ਦਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਸਫਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
The Creator has made my life totally fruitful; I chant the Name of the Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਹੈ,
I am a sacrifice to the Guru, who recites the sermon of the Lord's Teachings.
ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਰੀਤ ਚਲਾਈ ਹੈ ।
I am forever a sacrifice to that Guru, who has led me to serve the Lord.
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ—ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ
Your Unspoken Speech cannot be spoken.
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਹੈ (ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ) ।ਰਹਾਉ।
O treasure of excellence, Giver of peace, Lord and Master, Your greatness is the highest of all. ||Pause||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ
The Supreme Lord God has become my helper and friend; His sermon and the Kirtan of His Praises have brought me peace.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ) ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।
Chant the Word of the Perfect Guru's Bani, and be ever in bliss, O mortal. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਉਹੀ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He obtains the fruits of his mind's desires, listening to the comforting sermon of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੬।੨੭।
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, God is Nanak's best friend. ||4||16||27||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Imbued with the Lord's Name, they are unattached to the world.
ਉਹ (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Listening to the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, their minds are pleased; through Guru's Instruction, they enshrine love for the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀਏ
O God, my Lord and Master, shower me with Your Mercy, and commit me to Your service.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ ।੪।੨।
Make Nanak the slave of Your slaves, God; I speak the speech of the Lord's sermon. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰੋ ।
O Saints of the Lord, listen to the Lord's Praises with your ears.
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣੋ, ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੋਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Listen to the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, for a moment, for even an instant, and all your sins and mistakes shall be erased. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰੋ ।
O Sikhs of the Guru, O friends, walk on the Guru's Path.
ਗੁਰੂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਇਹ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਭਲਾ ਸਮਝੋ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਅਨੋਖੀ (ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Whatever the Guru says, accept that as good; the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is unique and wonderful. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਗੁਰੂ-) ਤੀਰਥ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ ।
Chant the Lord's Praises, O Siblings of Destiny; the Lord is the sacred shrine of pilgrimage in the terrifying world-ocean.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ
They alone are praised in the Court of the Lord, O Saints, who know and understand the Lord's sermon. ||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ-ਹੰਸ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਰੋਵਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
The swans are in the pool, and the pool is in the swans.
ਇਹ ਕਥਾ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ । ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
They speak the Unspoken Speech, and they honor and revere the Guru's Word. ||3||
ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਉਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟਿਕਾ ਦੇਵ
So make Him your Guru, who implants the Truth within you,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਾਵੇ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਵੇ ।
who leads you to speak the Unspoken Speech, and who merges you in the Word of the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ (ਤਪ ਆਦਿਕ ਘਾਲ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸਦੀ ਇਸ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਨੂੰ) ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਾਂ ਬਗੁਲੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who acts through stubbornness is of no account at all; like a crane, he pretends to meditate, but he is still stuck in Maya.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਦਾਤਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।੭।
Is there any such Giver of peace, who can recite to me the sermon of God? Meeting him, I would be emancipated. ||7||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗੀਓ! ਆਓ, ਰਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੀਏ
Come, O companions - let us unite in the Lord's Union.
ਹੇ ਸਤ ਸੰਗੀਓ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਰਹੋ
Listening to the sermon of the Lord, earn the profit of the Naam.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ
I am forever a sacrifice to those who listen to the sermon of the Lord.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who bow their heads before God are perfect and distinguished.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦਾ
He does not focus his mind, even for a moment, on the Lord's sermon, or the Lord's Praises, or the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਤੱਕਣ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He is excited, gazing on the transitory color of the safflower, and looking at other men's wives. ||1||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ
Listen, O mind, to the Unspoken Speech of the Lord's Name.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ । ਤੂੰ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਉੱਚੀ ਅਕਲ, ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Riches, wisdom, supernatural spiritual powers and peace are obtained, by vibrating, meditating on the Lord God, under Guru's Instruction. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ! ਮਿੱਤਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਈਆਂ ਹਨ ।
The Guru, my friend, has told me the stories and the sermon of the Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
I am a sacrifice to my Guru; to the Guru, I am a sacrifice. ||1||
ਉਸ ਬਿਦਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਠਹਿਰੇ ਸਨ ।੧।
Go and ask Bidar, the son of a maid; Krishna himself stayed in his house. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Listen, O humble Siblings of Destiny, to the Unspoken Speech of the Lord; it removes all anxiety, pain and hunger. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬੜੀ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਦਲੀ ਹੈ
The Natural Speech of God is so very sweet.
ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ (ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
How rare is that person, who sees it with his eyes. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਾਰੇ) ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ (ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੈ (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ)
From the Guru, I have come to know the mystery of this speech.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।੧੨।
Nanak speaks the Bani of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||6||12||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the cycle of birth and death is ended.
ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।
To hear the Ambrosial Sermon is the support of my ears. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the supreme status is obtained. The Word of God's Bani is sublime and exalted.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਅਤਿ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
God's Sermon is so very sweet. It brings celestial peace. It is to speak the Unspoken Speech.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਉਸ ‘ਅਬਿਚਲ ਨਗਰ’ ਵਿਚ) ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਣ ਦੀ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ-ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੁਣੀਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The spiritual wisdom and meditation of the Perfect Transcendent Lord, and the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, are continually heard there.
(ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚੋਜ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਧੁਨੀ ਉਠਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The devotees of the Lord, the Destroyer of fear, play endlessly there, and the unstruck melody resounds and vibrates there.
(ਹੇ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਆ ਮਿਲ, ਤੇਰੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਵਿਚ) ਕਾਂ ਉਡਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਭੀ ਥੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ
My arm is tired, driving away the crows.
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ — (ਤੇ ਉਧਰੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੀ) ਕਹਾਣੀ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਤੇ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੪।੨।
Says Kabeer, this is the way the story of my life ends. ||4||2||
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The Unspoken Speech is spoken, by the Will of the Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ।
He shows us that God is unapproachable and unfathomable.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਹੇ ਭਰਾਵੋ! (ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕੱਠੇ ਰਲ ਬੈਠੋ, ਅਤੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰੋ ।
Come, O Saints, and join together, O my Siblings of Destiny; let us tell the Stories of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਇਸ ਕਲਹ-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਦਾ) ਮਲਾਹ (ਹੈ, ਤੁਸੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੋ ।੧।
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the boat in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga; the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the boatman to ferry us across. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ।
The Ambrosial Bani of God's Word is the Unspoken Speech.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੨।੨੦।
Says Nanak, the spiritually wise live by meditating on God. ||2||2||20||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਂਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
They offer their prayers to the One Lord, who is pervading and permeating all places. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਸਮੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਥਾ ਇਉਂ ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਹਰ ਸਮੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਕੀਤਾ,
I have heard this old story, spoken by the devotees,
ਅਤੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਟੋਟੇ ਟੋਟੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੩।
that all the wicked are cut apart into pieces, while His humble servants are blessed with honor. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Blessed is that place, and blessed are those who dwell there, where they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ-ਵਾਰਤਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ (ਸੋਮਾ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Sermon and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung there very often; there is peace, poise and tranquility. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਥਾ-ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ, ਕੀਰਤਨ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ—ਇਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
This is my life's purpose, to sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and listen to the vibrations of the sound current of the Naad.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗਿਆ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।੬।੭੦।
O Nanak, God is totally pleased with me; I have obtained the fruits of my desires. ||2||6||70||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ-ਵਾਰਤਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
I listen to God's Teachings from the Saints.
ਉਥੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਥਾ-ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਹੁਲਾਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਰੌ ਸਦਾ ਚਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Lord's Sermon, the Kirtan of His Praises and the songs of bliss perfectly resonate, day and night. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਬਤ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ।੩।
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to my beauteous Lord; I have heard his Unspoken Speech and Story. ||3||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ) ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖ (ਤੇ, ਇਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ) ।੪।੨੮।੧੧੪।
Servant Nanak is said to be the slave of His slaves; O my Lord and Master, please bless me with Your Mercy. ||4||28||114||
ਪਰ ਜੋ ਬੰਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ਹੈ ।
Those who are pleasing to the Lord are the servants of the Lord; their story is unique and singular.
ਉਹ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੰਗੀ-ਸਾਥੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They do not come and go, and they never die; they remain with the Supreme Lord God. ||3||
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ (ਤੂੰ ਕੰਗਾਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਹਨਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ), ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੀਏ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਹੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ;
Says Ravi Daas, what more can be said about the Unspoken Speech?
ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ; (ਜਗਤ) ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ।੩।੧।
Whatever You are, You are, O Lord; how can anything compare with Your Praises? ||3||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਅਦੁਤੀ ਹਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
Wondrous and beautiful is the description of the beauty of the Supreme Soul, the Supreme Lord God. ||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਕਦੇ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਕਦੇ ਬਾਲਕ (ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਰ-ਅਧੀਨ) ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He is not old; He is not young.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਾ ਕੇ (ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Meeting with the humble servants of the Lord, I am in ecstasy; they preach the sublime sermon of the Lord.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ) ਅਕਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away; joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, one is blessed with understanding. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
O Lord, the Guru has implanted the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within my heart.
ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
As Gurmukh, I have heard His sermon, which pleases my mind; blessed, blessed is my great destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ (ਜੀਵਨ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Hearing the Lord's sermon, he becomes pure and holy.
ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਅਤੇ (ਸੁਚੱਜੀ) ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Chanting it with his tongue, he finds the way to salvation.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।
Sing the Praise of the Lord of the World, O mortal being.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਤੇ ਅਮੁੱਕ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Unspoken Speech of the True Lord God is perfect. Dwelling upon it, one's light merges into the Light. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
In Your Mercy, You attach them to the Naam; they meditate forever on the Lord, Har, Har.
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ , ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those whom You cause to listen to Your sermon, find peace in the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate.
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ‘ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਿਓ,
Finally, the True Guru said, "When I am gone, sing Kirtan in Praise of the Lord, in Nirvaanaa."
ਕੇਸੋ ਗੋਪਾਲ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਦੇ ਪੰਡਿਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦ ਘੱਲਿਓ, ਜੋ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਵਾਰਤਾ-ਰੂਪ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ।
Call in the long-haired scholarly Saints of the Lord, to read the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ (ਹੀ) ਪੜ੍ਹਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੇਬਾਣ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ (ਕੇਵਲ) ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Read the sermon of the Lord, and listen to the Lord's Name; the Guru is pleased with love for the Lord.
ਕੇਹੜੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
What is that speech, by which you remain unattached?
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ—) ਹੇ ਬਾਲਕ (ਨਾਨਕ!) ਸੁਣ,
Listen to what we say, O Nanak, you little boy.
(ਅਸਾਨੂੰ) ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੱਸ (ਅਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਭੀ ਸਮਝਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ
Give us your opinion on what we have said.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ।੪੩।
How can the Shabad carry us across the terrifying world-ocean?"||43||
ਮੈਂ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
Speaking the Unspoken Speech, I remain unattached.
ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਗੁਰ-ਗੋਪਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ।
O Nanak, throughout the ages, the Lord of the World is my Guru.
ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ,
I contemplate the sermon of the Shabad, the Word of the One God.
(ਇਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ (ਖ਼ੁਦ-ਗਰਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ।੪੪।
The Gurmukh puts out the fire of egotism. ||44||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ (ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ) ਇੱਕ-ਸਮਾਨ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰੇ,
But one who speaks the Unspoken Speech, and remains balanced,
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ-ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਦੀ-ਜਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬੨।
O Nanak, attains the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||62||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉੱਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਫੇਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ।
That house, in which the Saints speak of the Lord - I have not visited it, even for an instant.
ਪਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਈ, ਚੋਰ, ਬਦਮਾਸ਼, ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀ—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Drunkards, thieves, and evil-doers - I constantly dwell with them. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ!) ਅਕੱਥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ,
Listen to the Unspoken Speech of the peace-giving Lord.
(ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ; ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ;
All sins will be washed away.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ ।
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is lofty and exalted. Following the Guru's Teachings, the intellect dwells on the sermon of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
I am a sacrifice to that person who listens and believes. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਅਕੱਥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
One who tastes the sublime essence of the Unspoken Speech of the Lord - all his hunger is satisfied.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੨।੮।
Servant Nanak listens to the sermon of the Lord, and is satisfied; chanting the Lord's Name, Har, Har, Har, he has become like the Lord. ||2||2||8||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ,
Following the Guru's Teachings, I have been blessed with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I have enshrined within my heart the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਗੁੰਗਾ (ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਰਬਤ ਆਦਿਕ) ਬੜੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਸੁਆਦ ਦੱਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ) ।੪।
The sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is so very sweet; like the mute, I taste its sweetness, but I cannot describe it at all. ||4||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਚਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਏ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Your unlimited sermon is the most sweet sermon; I contemplate the most Sublime Word of the Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ, ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੨।
Singing, singing, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; singing His Glorious Praises, the Guru saves me. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਜਦੋਂ (ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Nanak humbly prays, I proclaim the Unspoken Speech of the Lord.
ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਉਹ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ।੫।੮।
If one meets the True Guru, then this wealth is obtained. ||5||8||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹੁ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਕਥਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।
O Lord God, please preach Your sermon to me. Through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord is merged into my heart.
ਹੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉੱਤਮ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Meditate on the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, O very fortunate ones; the Lord shall bless you with the most sublime status of Nirvaanaa.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।
O my mind, the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind.
ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Continually and forever, speak the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har; as Gurmukh, speak the Unspoken Speech. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਨ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜ ਕੇ ਭਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ।
I have searched through and through my mind and body; how can I attain this Unspoken Speech?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Meeting with the humble Saints, I have found it; listening to the Unspoken Speech, my mind is pleased.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸੰਤ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਜਾਣ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਿਲਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The Lord's Name is the Support of my mind and body; I am united with the all-knowing Primal Lord God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ (ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ) ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਕੋਈ) ਸਹਮ ਨੱਪੀ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ;
Within the world, one is afflicted by skepticism;
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਕੱਥ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।
he does not know the imperceptible Unspoken Speech of the Lord.
ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ ਕਰ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ।
Listening and speaking, no one knows His limits.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪਾ ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਥਾ-ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
He alone is wise, unto whom the unseen Lord reveals Himself; he speaks the Unspoken Speech. ||6||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ‘ਹਉਂ, ਹਉਂ’ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਗਟ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਮੇਰੀ ‘ਹਉਂ’ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
When one acts in egotism, then You are not there, Lord. Wherever You are, there is no ego.
ਹੇ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ! ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਰਾਜ਼ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਝ ।
O spiritual teachers, understand this: the Unspoken Speech is in the mind.
ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਕਰੋ, ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੋ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਓ ।
Confirm your faith in the Naam, charity and self-purification; chant the Guru's sermon forever.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫਿਰ) ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕ ਸਕਦੀ) ।੨੦।
Blessed with intuitive poise, I have found God; I am rid of the fear of the Messenger of Death. ||20||
ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ! ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਦਮੋਦਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਬਖ਼ਸ਼) ।
O Lord of the World, Merciful Lord of the Universe, Your sermon and spiritual wisdom are immaculate and pure.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਪਿਆਰ-) ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਹ । (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇ ।੨।੧।੩।
Please attune Nanak to Your Love, O Lord, and focus his meditation on Your Lotus Feet. ||2||1||3||
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਚੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ, ਨਿੱਤ ਛੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ; ਪਰ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ,
One who performs the six religious rituals and comes from a good family, but who does not have devotion to the Lord in his heart,
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਚੰਡਾਲ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ, ਚੰਡਾਲ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
one who does not appreciate talk of the Lord's Lotus Feet, is just like an outcaste, a pariah. ||1||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ।
In the Realm of the Saints, the immaculate sermon is spoken.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ (ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
In the Society of the Saints, the pain of egotism runs away. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
My mind is pleased and appeased by the Name of the Lord.
(ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The True Guru has implanted divine love within my heart. The Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਭਾਰਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਜੰਗਲ ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ;
Wherever they do not listen to the Stories of the Lord with their ears - the utterly desolate wilderness is there.
ਤੇ, ਜਿਥੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੰਗ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੇ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਐਸਾ ਬਾਗ਼ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ) ਸੰਘਣੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ ।੨।
Where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung with love in the Saadh Sangat - there is fragrance and fruit and joy in abundance. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
In my heart, I meditate on Him; with my eyes, I focus my meditation on Him. With my ears, I listen to His Sermon.
ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
With my feet, I walk on my Lord and Mater's Path. With my tongue, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਜੀਭ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।
O my tongue, sing the Ambrosial Praises of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, listen to the Lord's Sermon, and chant God's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬਚਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He worships and adores the Lord, Har, Har, in thought, word and deed; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he finds peace.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ । ਉਹ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ (ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He enjoys bliss and pleasure, and savors the Unspoken Speech of the Lord; he merges intuitively into the True Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਤੇਰੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ।
O Lord God, please be kind to me, that I may hear with my ears Your Sublime and Exalted Sermon.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਜੰਮਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਨਾ—ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੱਖ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
My cycle of coming and going is finally completed, and I have attained peace and tranquility. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ ।
In each and every heart, the Story of our Sovereign Lord is told; in each and every home, they yearn for Him.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੪।
Afterwards, He created all beings and creatures; but first, He provided them with sustenance. ||4||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਅਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰੋ ।

ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The glory of the Supreme Lord God is wondrous and amazing! ||1||Pause||
(ਜੋ) ਤਾਲੀਮ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੇ ਲਿਆਂਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਦਿੱਤੀ), (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ,
The Vedas bring forth stories and legends, and thoughts of vice and virtue.
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੱਥੋਂ) ਦੇ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਮੁੜ) ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਹ (ਅਗਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਮੋੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂ ਸੁਰਗ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
What is given, they receive, and what is received, they give. They are reincarnated in heaven and hell.
ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ! (ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਭੀ) ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਰਦਇਤਾ ਨਾਹ ਗਈ, ਤੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤਾ,
Cruelty has not left your mind; you have not cherished kindness for other living beings.
ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ (ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਚਲਾਈਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੌਕ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆ) ।੩।੧।੬।
Parmaanand has joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Why have you not followed the sacred teachings? ||3||1||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone is said to be the True Guru, who realizes God, and proclaims the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਜਿਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ, ਖਾਣੇ ਰੇਸ਼ਮੀ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ । ਇਸ ਭਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਟੋਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ।੪।
Offer the Guru sacred foods, clothes, silk and satin robes of all sorts; know that He is True. The merits of this shall never leave you lacking. ||4||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ
Whoever hears the description of the indescribable,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਸਮਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਮਿਲ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ ।੧।
is blessed with wealth, intelligence, perfection, spiritual wisdom and eternal peace. ||1||
ੲਥੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਫੁਰਨਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਇਹ ਮਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਰੂਪ ਕਉਲ ਫੁੱਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਰਤ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
Contemplate the Unspoken Speech, and the desires of the mind are dissolved.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੈ,
The heart-lotus is turned upside-down, and is filled with Ambrosial Nectar. This mind does not go out; it does not get distracted.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ (ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
My mind is the dust of the feet of the Saints.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣੀ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਗਿਆ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Joining the Sangat, the Congregation, I listen to the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har. My crude and uncultured mind is drenched with the Love of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ । (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਉਸ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਸਿਆ ਰਸਤਾ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਪ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I meditate on the Name of the Unseen and Unfathomable Lord; joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I have found the Path of the Holy.
ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
Joining the congregation, I listen to the Gospel of the Lord, Har, Har; I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, and speak the Unspoken Speech. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲਾਲ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, (ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰੀ ਇੱਕ ਜੀਭ (ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ
Your Glorious Virtues are inaccessible and unfathomable; how can my one poor tongue describe them? O my Beloved Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ।
O Dear Lord, You, You, You alone know Your Unspoken Speech. I have become enraptured, enraptured, enraptured, meditating on the Lord. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ) ਘੜੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Blessed, blessed, beauteous and fruitful is that moment, when service to the Lord becomes pleasing to the mind.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖੋ! ਤੁਸੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਵੋ
So proclaim the story of the Lord, O my GurSikhs; speak the Unspoken Speech of my Lord God.
ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਨਕ ਵਾਲੀ) ਇਹ (ਉਪ੍ਰੋਕਤ) ਗੂਝ ਗੱਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ,
He speaks the Unspoken Speech of the eternal city. He alone obtains it, unto whom God gives it.
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ! ਇਹ ਜਨਕ-ਰਾਜ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੋਭਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਹੈਂ) ।੧੩।
O Guru Raam Daas, Your sovereign rule, like that of Janak, is Yours alone. ||13||
(ਫਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਅਕੱਥ ਕਥਾ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ-ਰੂਪ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ, (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਦੇਵ ਨੇ) ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਏ, ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਡਰ ਨਾਹ ਰਿਹਾ ।
He blessed Guru Angad with the treasure of spiritual wisdom, and the Unspoken Speech; He overcame the five demons and the fear of the Messenger of Death.
(ਫਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਛੁਹ ਨਾਲ) ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ (ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ), (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਦੀ ਪਤਿ ਰੱਖੀ, ਆਪ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਦੇ) ਪਾਪ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ।
The Great and True Guru, Guru Amar Daas, has preserved honor in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. Seeing His Lotus Feet, sin and evil are destroyed.
(ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਕਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਮ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ । ਹੇ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖ)-ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ,
No one can speak Your Unspoken Speech. You are pervading the three worlds. You assume the form of spiritual perfection, O King of kings.
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਤੂੰ ਅਚਰਜ ਹੈਂ, ਸਤਿ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈਂ, ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਲਕਸ਼ਮੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹੈਂ ।੩।੮।
You are forever True, the Home of Excellence, the Primal Supreme Being. Waahay Guru, Waahay Guru, Waahay Guru, Waahay Jee-o. ||3||8||
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ), ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਜੀਭ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਛ ਆਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ।
The Unspoken Speech of Guru Amar Daas cannot be expressed with only one tongue.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੋਢੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ (ਜੀ) ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
