ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਾਂ । ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੈਂ । ਸਾਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।
I am poor and meek, God, but I belong to You! Save me-please save me, O Greatest of the Great!
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ । ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪।
Servant Nanak takes the Sustenance and Support of the Naam. In the Name of the Lord, he enjoys celestial peace. ||4||4||
(ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
The One is the Support of the mind; He has given us body and soul.
(ਮੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ।੨।
May I never forget God from my mind; He holds all in the Power of His Hands. ||2||
ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ
True is the Creator, True is the Doer. True is our Lord and Master, and True is His Support.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਅਸਲੀ ਪਰਖ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
So speak the Truest of the True. Through the True One, an intuitive and discerning mind is obtained.
ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ । (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ
The Guru's Teachings bring honor. Blessed is He-may I meet and be with Him!
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹ
Without Him, I cannot live, even for a moment. Without His Name, I die.
(ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਏ, ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਪਰਨਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ।੨।
I am blind-may I never forget the Naam! Under His Protection, I shall reach my true home. ||2||
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਅਚਰਜ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਅਚਰਜ ਹੈਂ । (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ); (ਕਾਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
Waaho! Waaho! - Great! Great is my True Lord! I seek Your All-powerful Support.
ਮੈਂ ਪਾਪੀ ਹਾਂ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I am a sinner - You alone are pure. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ।
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are blessed with glorious greatness.
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ) ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।੩੯।
I am blind - I have taken the Lord as my Support. ||4||1||39||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਹਾਂ, ਆਜਿਜ਼ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਡੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ।

ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੮।੨੨।੬੦।

Keep His Support in your mind.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਹੈ ।
Taste the ambrosial essence, the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
Through the True Guru, the One and only Lord was implanted within me;
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੮।੮੭।
servant Nanak has taken to the Support of the Lord, Har, Har, Har. ||4||18||87||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ-ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ
Within my conscious mind, the One Lord is my only Support.
ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
One who does this is my Friend. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਤੇ ਚਤੁਰ ਹੈਂ (ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਾਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ।੧।
Renounce your cleverness, and your cunning tricks.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ।
Seek the Support of the Perfect Guru. ||1||
ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ-ਤਾਣ ਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The One Lord is my hope, honor, power and wealth.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹ
Within my mind is the Support of the True Banker. ||3||
ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ (ਸਾਡਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ ।
The One God is my Intimate, Best Friend and Companion.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੮੭।੧੫੬।
The Naam, the Name of my Lord and Master, is Nanak's only Support. ||4||87||156||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਖੇਲ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Nothing comes, and nothing goes; this play is all set in motion by the Lord, the Sovereign King.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਸਰਬ-ਪਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ । ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੫।੧੩੬।
Says Nanak, our Lord and Master is inaccessible and unfathomable. The Lord's devotees take His Name as their Support. ||4||15||136||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You alone are my Chief Advisor.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I serve You with the Support of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
You alone are the Doer, the Cause of causes.
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ-ਜੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।੧।
You are the Support of all beings and creatures. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੇ ਵਜ਼ੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਓਟ ਤੇ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
The One Lord is my support, the One is my steady anchor.
ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।੪।੧੧।੧੪੯।
Servant Nanak is engaged in the Lord's work. ||4||11||149||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ! ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹਨ, ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ।
Your Virtues are unlimited - they cannot be described, O True Guru, Primal Being, Destroyer of demons.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਆਸਰੇ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ।੪।੨।
Prays Nanak, Yours is that Anchor, holding onto which the whole world is saved. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ।
Yaya: This human life shall not be wasted, if you take the Support of the Perfect Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧੪।
O Nanak, one whose heart is filled with the One Lord finds peace. ||14||
ਪਰ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
and I have taken the support of the Saints as my mind's support.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤਾਂ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਹੈ,
Even a puppet of ashes attains the supreme status,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਬਰਦੀ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮਝੋ ।
He does not claim anything as his own; the One Lord is his Anchor and Support.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Night and day, he continually contemplates the Almighty, Infinite Lord God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ (ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ) ਦੀ ਆਸ ਲਾਹ ਦੇ ।
O my soul, grasp the Support of the One Lord; give up your hopes in others.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, your affairs shall be resolved. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਪੀਂਦੇ, ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੱਸਦੇ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ,
Eating, drinking, playing and laughing, I have wandered through countless incarnations.
ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Please, God, lift me up and out of the terrifying world-ocean. Nanak seeks Your Support. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀ! (ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ!
O Companion, Formless, Absolute Lord, Support of all:
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਹੈ!
O Lord of the Universe, Treasure of excellence, with clear eternal understanding:
ਹੇ ਮਨ!) (ਕਿਸੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਸਮਝ,
Reliance on mortals is in vain - know this well.
ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ;
The Great Giver is the One Lord God.
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਰੱਖੋ,
Keep the Support of the One in your mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ।੬।
O Nanak, you shall not have to come and go in reincarnation again. ||6||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੱਜਣੋ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ) ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਆਦਤ ਬਣਾਓ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ (ਬਣਦੀ) ਹੈ
O Sikhs, love the Word of the Shabad; in life and death, it is our only support.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੱਥਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Your face shall be radiant, and you shall find a lasting peace, O Nanak, remembering the One Lord in meditation. ||2||
ਅਸਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
I have formed my alliance with the Lord; the Lord is my only support.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਧੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ । ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Other than the Lord, I have no other faction or alliance; I sing of the countless and endless Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।
One who has Your Support, O Lord Master, is not afflicted by anxiety.
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਗਏ ।੩।
One who is blessed by Your Kind Mercy, is the best, the most fortunate king. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ (ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ) ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਭੀ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
The Saints have Your Support, O Lord and Master; You are the Saints' Help and Support.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਉਸ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮੰਦ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਹੜ ਵਿਚ) ਰੋੜ੍ਹ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਹੜ ਵਿਚ ਰੋੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੪।੨।੪੧।
Says Nanak, the Saints are saved by the Lord; the slanderers are drowned in the deep. ||4||2||41||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਪ (ਸਾਡੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
You are my Shelter, You are my Support; giving me Your hand, You protect me.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ (ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ) ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਦਾ ।੨।
That humble being, upon whom You bestow Your Grace, is not touched by slander or suffering. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ
Says Nanak, meditate in remembrance of the One Lord God.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸੀਦਾ) ।੪।੩।੯੭।
Salvation is obtained, in the Shelter of the Perfect Guru. ||4||3||97||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ਹੈ ।
You are the honor of the dishonored. O Master, in You I place my trust.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਝਾਕ ਭੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹ ਸਮਝੋ ਅਜੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without the True One, any other support is false - know this well. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਗੁਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
You are my Support, O Merciful God, Lord of the Universe, Sustainer of the World.
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are the Master of all; the entire creation is Yours. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ)! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਮੈਂ ਗਰੀਬ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You are the True Support of me, the poor mortal, O my Perfect True Guru.
ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਣ ਲਈ) ਧੀਰਜ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, my mind is encouraged. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਚਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੰਦ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ)
O God, Merciful to the meek, Compassionate Lord Master, Your Name is the Support of Your devotees.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary; O God, make him Your Own, and preserve his honor. ||4||3||125||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਕੀਆ (ਜਮ-ਪੁਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਹੈ ।
The One Lord is my Anchor and Support; the One Lord alone is the power of my mind.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ (ਜੋ ਜਮਪੁਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਸਕੇ ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕੇ) ।੪।੧।੧੩੬।
O Nanak, joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate on Him; without the Lord, there is no other at all. ||4||1||136||
ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਇਹ ਕਾਰ ਐਸੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
True is Your Service; bless me with it, O Merciful Lord.
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਲਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
I live by praising You; You are my Anchor and Support. ||2||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਡੰਗੋਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਟੋਹ ਟੋਹ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਰਾਹ-ਖਹਿੜਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
As is the cane in the hand of the blind man, so is the Lord's Name for me.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਇਕ ਐਸਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ) ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨੇ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੬।
The Lord's Name is my Support, night and day and morning. ||6||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, one obtains the immortal status, and merges into the Lord's Name.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ।
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the only Support and Anchor of servant Nanak; without the Naam, there is nothing else at all.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ,
The lofty, inaccessible and infinite Lord and Master is pervading the water, the land and the sky.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਹਨ ।੩।
Prays Nanak, He is the support of His servants; His Lotus Feet are their only sustenance. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜੋ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਧੂਏਂ ਦਾ ਪਹਾੜ (ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਵੇਖ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।
Behold - the world is a mirage; nothing here is permanent.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਜ਼ਹਬੀ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਹਿਸਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ, (ਬੰਦਗੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਤੇ ਬਹਿਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।
Give up your holy books, and remember the Lord, you fool, and stop oppressing others so badly.
ਕਬੀਰ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਝਗੜਾਲੂ) ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ (ਬਹਿਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੮।
Kabeer has grasped hold of the Lord's Support, and the Muslims have utterly failed. ||4||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।
You are my support, O my Perfect True Guru; my mind has taken to the protection of Your Sanctuary.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ (ਸਾਡੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ) ਧਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।੨।੯।੧੯।
Nanak, I am a foolish and ignorant child; reach out to me with Your hand, Lord, and save me. ||2||9||18||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।
With each and every breath, I contemplate Your Name; O God, I long for You alone.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਿਗਾਨੀ ਆਸ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ।੨।੧੦।੧੯।
O Nanak, my support is the Creator Lord; I have renounced all other hopes. ||2||10||19||
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ
The One Name is the support of His devotees; in this world, and in the world hereafter, it is their anchor and support.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
In His mercy and kindness, the Guru has given me the divine wisdom of God, and a discriminating intellect. ||1||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਜਿੰਦੇ! (ਇਹ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕੱਠ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ
O Dear One, implant the Naam within me; lovingly attached to the Naam, I lean on the True Guru's Support.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟਿਕਾ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ ।੫।
Whatever pleases Him, He does; no one can erase His actions. ||5||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
That Lord and Master is my Anchor and Support; O Nanak, hold firm in your mind.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Remembering Him in meditation, happiness comes, and all sorrows and pains simply vanish. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ,
No one can equal Your humble servant, who has Your Support.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ (ਆਖ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ‘ਨਾਮ’) ਚਿਤਾਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
Waaho! Waaho! How wonderful is the Perfect Guru! Cherishing Him in my mind, I obtain peace.
ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਬਚਨ ਮੰਨਣ-ਯੋਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The speech of the devotees is approved; it is accepted in the Court of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Your devotees take to Your Support; they are imbued with the True Name.
ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਅਪਾਰ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ ।
You Yourself are everything, O infinite, endless Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੯।
Nanak seeks the Protection and Support of the Perfect Guru. ||19||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Let Truth be your food, and let Truth be your clothes; let your True Support be the Name of the Lord.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
One who is so blessed by the Lord, obtains a seat in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||4||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ (ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ)
You are the support of my mind and body, O Beloved; You are the support of my mind and body.
। ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ । ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
There is no other Creator except for You, O Beloved; You alone are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਹੀ ਭਗਤਾਂ (ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
The lotus feet of the Lord are the support of His humble servants. They are his only capital and investment.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਹੈ, ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੨।੨੦।
The True Lord is Nanak's strength, honor and support; He alone is his protection. ||4||2||20||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਧਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਧਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The rich man gazes upon his riches, and is proud of himself; the landlord takes pride in his lands.
ਰਾਜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੇਸ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਾਜ ਹੈ (ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਭੀ ਹੈ) । ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ) ।੧।
The king believes that the whole kingdom belongs to him; in the same way, the humble servant of the Lord looks upon the support of his Lord and Master. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਚੁਰਾਣਾ, ਲੋਭ ਕਰਨਾ; ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣਾ, ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨੀ—ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ (ਸਾਕਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਮਰ) ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Stealing the property of others, acting in greed, lying and slandering - in these ways, he passes his life.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤਿਹਾਏ ਹਿਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਠਗ-ਨੀਰਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਕਤ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਦੀ) ਟੇਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਥੰਮ੍ਹੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He places his hopes in false mirages, believing them to be sweet; this is the support he installs in his mind. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ (ਨਿੱਤ) ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Speak, read and hear of the One Lord.
ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਨੂੰ (ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
The Support of the earth shall bless you with courage, righteousness and protection.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹਕੀਮ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
By the Grace of the Saints, the Lord has become my physician; God alone is the Doer, the Cause of causes.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੮।੧੩।
He is the Giver of perfect peace to the innocent-minded people; O Nanak, the Lord, Har, Har, is my support. ||2||8||13||
ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਤਾਣ ਹੈ, (ਸਾਡੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
You are the strength, and You are the support of the mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।੧।
Forever and ever, meditate, O Nanak, on the One. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ ।
The Great Giver is the Supreme Lord God over all.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are our support, You are our sustainer. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰ, ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ) ਹੈਂ
Give me Your help, O brave and generous Lord; You are the One, You are the Only Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਹੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦੇ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ! ਹੇ ਖ਼ਲਕਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੫।
O Creator Lord, by Your creative potency, You created the world; Nanak holds tight to Your support. ||2||5||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਦੀ ਡੰਗੋਰੀ ਹੈ, ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ;
I am blind; Your Name, O Creator Lord, is my only anchor and support.
ਮੈਂ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਆਜਿਜ਼ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I am poor, and I am meek. Your Name is my only support. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
When the True King is pleased, the world is rid of its diseases. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ! ਤੂੰ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are the Support of Your devotees, and the Shelter of the Saints, O True Creator Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
O my Sovereign Lord, You are the Support of the Saints.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Whatever pleases You, they accept. You are the sustenance of their minds and bodies. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
O my Sovereign Lord, when You enter my consciousness, I am saved.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਗੱਲੇ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are my support. I count on You. Meditating on You, I am saved. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਡੰਗੋਰੀ (ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ) ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਟੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਟੋਹ ਟੋਹ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹਾਂ)
I am blind, and the Lord's Name is my cane.
ਜਦੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I remain under the Sheltering Support of my Lord and Master; I am not enticed by Maya the enticer. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ, ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ) ਪਰਖ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ ।
You are All-powerful, You are present everywhere; You are the subtle intellect, the clear wisdom.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੮।੧।੩।
Nanak chants and meditates forever on the Naam, the Support of the humble devotees. ||8||1||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
The True Guru was satisfied with me, and blessed me with the Support of the Lord's Lotus Feet. I am a sacrifice to the Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ ।
The Lord's Ambrosial Nectar is an overflowing treasure; everything is in His Home. I am a sacrifice to the Lord.
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ । ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who has Your Support lives forever and ever. I am a sacrifice to the Lord.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੈ ।
I take my support from You alone, O True Creator Lord.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਕ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
You are the Support of my mind, O my Beloved, You are the Support of my mind.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈਂ । (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ (ਸੋਚਣੀਆਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
All other clever tricks are useless, O Beloved; You alone are my Protector. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰ (ਆਸਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The Lord of the Universe is my only Support. I have renounced all other hopes.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
God is All-powerful, above all; He is the perfect treasure of virtue. ||1||
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹਰੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ,
O God, You are the Anchor and Support of Nanak.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲਾ) ।੪।੧੯।੪੯।
He is the Doer, the Cause of causes; the All-powerful Lord God is inaccessible and infinite. ||4||19||49||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਕੋਈ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
If one human being serves another human being, the one served stands by him.
ਪਰ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਹੈਂ (ਤੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਾਂਗਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੬।੯੨।
Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary and Protection, O Lord, ocean of peace; He takes the Support of Your Name alone. ||2||6||92||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਤੇ) ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਮਹਲ) ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The Name of the Lord is the only Support of His humble servants.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮੈਂ) ਦਾਸ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I shall live under the protection of the True Guru. By Guru's Grace, I shall attain the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ (ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ (ਭੀ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
God Himself created them, and sees each one distinct.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
O Creator Lord, You are the Support of all.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
I lean upon the Support of the Guru, day and night.
ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ ।੧।
No one can decrease His bounty. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਧ੍ਰੂ ਤੇ ਨਾਰਦ (ਵਰਗੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਅਪੜਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
Please place me where You placed Dhroo and Naarad, O my Master.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਪੜਾ ਦੇਹ, ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਪੱਕਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੩।
With the Support of Your Name, so many have been saved; this is Naam Dayv's understanding. ||2||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If anyone, out of millions of people, becomes pleasing to his Lord and Master, he sings the Lord's Praises in this way.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I have taken the Support of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Lord of the Universe, the Lord of the World, has taken pity on me.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੬।੧੭।
Nanak seeks the protection and support of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||16||27||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ!
O my One Creator Lord God,
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Your Name is the support of my mind. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਫੜ,
Hold tight to the Support of the Guru, the Lord.
ਹੋਰ (ਆਸਰਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸਭ ਆਸਾਂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ ।
Give up all other hopes.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ ।
Reliance on mortal man is useless.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
O God, my Lord and Master, You are my only Support.
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਬਣਨਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝ ਲੈ ਕੇ
One is bad, and another good, but the One True Lord is contained in all.
ਚਾਹੇ ਕੋਈ ਭਲਾ ਹੈ ਚਾਹੇ ਬੁਰਾ ਹੈ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ।
Understand this, O spiritual teacher, through the support of the True Guru:
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਆਦਤ ਬਣਾਓ, ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
Study the Word of the Shabad, O beloveds. It is your anchoring support in life and in death.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ!) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Your face shall be radiant, and you will be at peace forever, O Nanak, meditating in remembrance on the One Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਕਟ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, the mind and body find peace; the thought of duality is dispelled.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੧।
Nanak takes the support of the Lord of the World, the Lord of the Universe, the Destroyer of troubles. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
My tongue chants the Name of the Lord, and chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਦਾ ਇਕ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Nanak has grasped the sheltering support of the One Transcendent Lord, who shall save him in the end. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ! ਗੋਪਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ) ਜੇ ਧਨ ਗੁਆਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਆਚਣ ਦੇਹ (ਪਰ ਹਾਂ) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਸਕੇਂ
If by losing your wealth, you may become absorbed in the Love of the One Lord, then just let it go.
(ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਮਨ ਭੀ ਦੇ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਰ ਭੀ ਅਰਪਣ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ (ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Dedicate your mind, and surrender your head; seek only the Support of the Creator Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਸਲ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਾਹ ਆਵੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਾਹ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ), ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਡੋਲਣ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਵੇ;
In the stores and on the road, do not sleep; do not let your consciousness covet anyone else's home.
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਹਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।
Without the Name, the mind has no firm support; O Nanak, this hunger never departs.
ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਬਲੀ ਹੈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
I take the Support of the One Lord alone; He is all-powerful, over the heads of all.
ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
The Saint, the True Guru, has united me with the Lord. He placed His hand on my forehead.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ।
O my mind, take the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਸਮਝ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Understand the One who created you; the One God is the Cause of causes. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਲਦਾ ।
Without the Name, what support can anyone have?
ਪਰ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨ-) ਚੋਰ ਦਾ ਘਰ-ਘਾਟ ਲੁੱਟਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਚੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।੭।
The temple of the body is being plundered by the thieves within, but this faithless cynic does not even recognize these demons. ||7||
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਦਾ ਤਾਣ ਹੈ ।
Some have the power of authority and Maya.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ । ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਮੇਰੀ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਰ ।੧੩।
I have no other Support at all, except the Lord. O Creator Lord, please save me, meek and dishonored. ||13||
(ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਉਹੀ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
The One and only Lord is my Support and Protection.
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Creator Lord knows everything. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
All those humble beings whose minds are filled with the One God

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਭਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
With Your Support, I survive in the Dark Age of Kali Yuga.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸਭ ਜੀਵ) ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
With Your Support, I sing Your Glorious Praises.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ ।
With Your Support, death cannot even touch me.
ਤੇਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
With Your Support, my entanglements vanish. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
In this world and the next, I have Your Support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ
With Your Support, I celebrate blissfully.
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
With Your Support, I chant the Guru's Mantra.
ਕੋਈ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰੀਤ-ਰਸਮ ਕਰਨੀ ਭੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ । ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਆਸ ਰੱਖੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਾਂ,
Within my mind, I have placed my hopes in the One Lord alone.
ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਮੈਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ ।੨।
The Support of Your Name shall carry me across. ||2||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਉਸ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਉਸੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O my mind, meditate on the Lord of the World, the Master of the Universe, the Life of the World, the Enticer of the mind; fall in love with Him. I take the Support of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, all day and all night. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸੁਕਦੇਵ ਨਾਰਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ।
Endless, endless, endless are the Praises of the Lord. Suk Dayv, Naarad and the gods like Brahma sing His Glorious Praises. Your Glorious Virtues, O my Lord and Master, cannot even be counted.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਉਮੈ-ਜ਼ਹਰ ਉਹ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He is rid of sin and corruption, and detached from Maya; he has renounced the poison of egotistical intellect.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਤੇ ਉਡੀਕ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He thirsts for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, and he places his hopes in the One Lord alone. The Feet of his Beloved are the Support of his heart. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Forgetting the Lord, they suffer in sorrow and die.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਕਈ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
They wander lost in reincarnation through all sorts of species; they do not find shelter anywhere. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ,
Your devotees take Your Support.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੪।੨੬।
Servant Nanak has come to the Door of Your Sanctuary. ||2||4||26||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਾਂ) ਹਰੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
The Name of the Lord is my Anchor and Support. I take only the Support of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੋ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਓ, ਮੈਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ) ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਾਂ ।੭।
O Dear Lord, please be kind and lead me to meet the Guru, that I may find the Door of Salvation. ||7||
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ) ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
Your Saints have overwhelmed the wicked army of corruption.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
They take Your Support and place their faith in You, O my Lord and Master; they seek Your Sanctuary. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਦੈਂਤ-ਦਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੇਵਕ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ । ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ) ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ (ਮੈਂ ਨਿਤ) ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।
Please be Kind to Your humble servant, Lord; please bless me with the meditation of Your Name.
। ਮੈਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।
I am a blind fool; Your Name is my only Support. Servant Nanak, as Gurmukh, has found it. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਾਂ,
I enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within; I seek Your Sanctuary, Lord.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Merciful Lord God, You are my only Support. ||1||
(ਤੇਰੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I have taken the Shelter and Support of the Lord's Lotus Feet.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈਂ । ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਉੱਚਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ।
You are Lofty and Exalted, Grand and Infinite, O my Lord and Master; You alone are above all. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੇ) ਸਰਧਾ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਲਈ) ਸੇਜ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਆਪ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਉ ਸ਼ਾਮੀਆਨਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਨਾਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਸੰਜੋਅ ਹੈ ।
On the bed of faith, with the blankets of intuitive peace and poise and the canopy of contentment, You are embellished forever with the armor of humility.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ) ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪ ਨੇ) ਕਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਟੇਕ (ਆਪ ਦੇ) ਸੰਗੀ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਗੰਧਿਤ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, you practice the Naam; You lean on its Support, and give Your Fragrance to Your companions.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ ।
The Lord's Name is the Support of the Lord's humble servants. Without the Lord's Name, the there is no other place, no place of rest.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਲੀਨਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Following the Guru's Teachings, the Name abides in the mind, and one is intuitively, automatically absorbed in the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is within them. They cherish His Glorious Virtues forever.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They take the Support of the One, the Inaccessible Lord; they enshrine God in their mind and body.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਸੰਗੀ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਸਕਦਾ,
My associates and companions have all deserted me; no one remains with me.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ— ਉਸ (ਇਕੱਲੇ-ਪਨ ਦੀ) ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ) ।੫੫।
Says Nanak, in this tragedy, the Lord alone is my Support. ||55||
