ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਜੀਵ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ! ਜੇ ਪਤੀ ਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
O soul-bride, without your Husband Lord, what good are your decorations?
(ਜੋ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੀ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਝੂਠ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਰਕਾਰਿਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
In this world, you shall not find any shelter; in the world hereafter, being false, you shall suffer. ||1||Pause||
ਝੂਠੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਬੋਲਣ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਅਜੇਹਾ ਜੀਵ (ਕਿਸੇ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਸੁੱਚ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸੁੱਚਾ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ
With false mouths, people speak falsehood. How can they be made pure?
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਜਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨ) ਮਾਂਜਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਤੇ) ਇਹ ਸੱਚ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Without the Holy Water of the Shabad, they are not cleansed. From the True One alone comes Truth. ||1||
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ; ਝੂਠ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
She does not find peace in this world or the next; she burns in falsehood and corruption.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਔਖਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਕੰਤ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Coming and going are very difficult for that bride who is abandoned and forgotten by her Husband Lord. ||4||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਇਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ੳੇੁੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ (ਸਹੀ) ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
If they serve the True Guru, they find the state of salvation; they enshrine the Dear Lord within their minds.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਨ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ), ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ-ਪਸਾਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ
O dear beloved mind, my friend, without the Lord, all outward show is false.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਇਕ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਜ਼ਹਰ (ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ
O dear beloved mind, my friend, the world is an ocean of poison.
ਆਦਿ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ, ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਦਿ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ (ਚਲਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਦਾ ਹੀ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ
From the very beginning, and throughout the ages, He is the Lord and Master of His servants. His Name is the Support of His devotees.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ—ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਤੋੜ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ ।੨।
Nanak gives this advice: O beloved mind, without the Lord, all outward show is false. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਮੋਲ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੪੨।੪੯।
One who asks for a false gift,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ ।
shall not take even an instant to die.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ।
In this world of her parents' house, the young bride did not know her Husband.
ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਹ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਧਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Through falsehood, she has been separated from Him, and she cries out in misery.
(ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਕਾਮ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਝੂਠ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਵੇ, ਜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਭੀ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਏ,
Renounce sexual desire, anger, falsehood and slander; forsake Maya and eliminate egotistical pride.
ਜੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਕਾਲਖ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Renounce sexual desire and promiscuity, and give up emotional attachment. Only then shall you obtain the Immaculate Lord amidst the darkness of the world.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੂੜ ਦੇ (ਸਉਦੇ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜ ਸਕੀਦਾ,
No one enters the Court of the True Lord through falsehood.
ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ-ਥਾਂ ਗਵਾ ਬੈਠੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By uttering falsehood and only falsehood, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is lost.
(ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ !) (ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਊਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਰ (ਤਾਕਿ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਪਏ ।
While you are alive, conquer death, and you shall have no regrets in the end.
ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆਈ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ,
