ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੁ
O Siblings of Destiny, follow the Guru's Teachings and dwell in truth.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰੋ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੋ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Practice truth, and only truth, and merge in the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ) ਧੀਰਜ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਧੀਰਜ ਬੜਾ ਉੱਚਾ) ਧਰਮ ਹੈ ।
Following the Guru's Teachings, one obtains Dharmic faith, composure and the Lord's Name.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੨।੯।
O Nanak, singing the Glories of God, His Name is received. ||12||9||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ (ਐਸੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਹਿਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਡੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।
Following the Guru's Teachings, one becomes perfectly stable, and never wavers.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Following the Guru's Teachings, one intuitively chants the Name of the True Lord.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਲਦਾ ।
Under Guru's Instructions, hold your mind steady; O my soul, do not let it wander anywhere.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
One who utters the Bani of the Praises of the Lord God, O Nanak, obtains the fruits of his heart's desires. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰੋ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੋ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਤਾਰੀ ਤਰੋ ।
Accepting the Guru's Teachings, cross over to the other side through Truth.
ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖੋ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਓ ।
O soul, remember the Lord within your heart.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ) ।
I see the One Lord, and no other.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ—ਇਹ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਲਈ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਪੌੜੀ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
The Guru's Teachings are the ladder to reach the highest of the high. the jewel of spiritual wisdom conquers egotism. ||4||
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਏ! ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਯਕੀਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।
This is the way to meet your Husband Lord. Blessed is the soul-bride who is loved by her Husband Lord.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਾਤਿ ਵਰਨ ਕੁਲ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਬਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Social class and status, race, ancestry and skepticism are eliminated, following the Guru's Teachings and contemplating the Word of the Shabad. ||1||
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ
The Guru's Teachings, the True Word of the Shabad, is excellent and sublime.
(ਇਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
