ਮੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕਾਂ), ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
All virtues are Yours, Lord, I have none at all.
(ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ !) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਣ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੈਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
Without virtue, there is no devotional worship.
ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰੀਏ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
Let's join together, and tell stories of our All-powerful Husband Lord.
(ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ !) ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
All Virtues are in our True Lord and Master; we are utterly without virtue. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਣ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਔਗਣ ਵਿਹਾਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ
He dwells forever in the minds of the virtuous. He is far removed from those worthless people who lack virtue.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਝੋਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਝੁਰ ਝੁਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
The self-willed manmukhs are totally without virtue. Without the Name, they die in frustration. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ‑ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ
Forever and ever, they sing the Glorious Praises of the True One; they love the True Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੰੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
When the Lord Himself grants His Grace, He bestows the treasure of devotion. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ
Without the Guru, one's virtues do not shine forth; without virtue, there is no devotional worship.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He abides within their minds. They meet that God with intuitive ease.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
The Lord is totally permeating and pervading inside and out.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉੇਸ ਦੀ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।੨।
Meditating, meditating, meditating in remembrance on Him, singing His Glorious Praises, the noose of death is cut away. ||2||
(ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He has cut away my bonds, and made me His slave.
ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੩।
Remember, remember, remember Him in meditation; He is the treasure of excellence. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those without virtue are stained by Maya's filth.
ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
Lacking virtue, the egotistical die, and suffer reincarnation. ||3||
ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਦਬਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ
Holding to His Support, the state of fearless dignity is obtained.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
With each and every breath, sing of the Lord, the treasure of excellence. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਜੇਹਾ) ਵਣਜ-ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਸਕੋ, ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਛਤਾਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ ।
Make your deals, and obtain the true merchandise, or else you shall regret it later.
ਮਾੜੇ ਕੰਮ ਛੱਡੋ, ਗੁਣ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰੋ । ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸਲ (ਖੱਟੀ) ਖੱਟੋ ।੭।
Abandon your vices, and practice virtue, and you shall obtain the essence of reality. ||7||
(ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ!) ਦੱਸ, ਉਸ ਅਪਹੰੁਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Tell me, how can I reach that unreachable, that unreachable city?
(ਸਹੇਲੀ ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਉਸ ਸ਼ਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੰੁਚਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ, (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਣਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
By practicing truthfulness and self-restraint, by contemplating His Glorious Virtues, and living the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਭਾਈ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ ।
If he possesses virtues, then the chains are cut away; these virtues are his brothers, his true brothers.
(ਇਥੋਂ) ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਏ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਪ-ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਅਗਾਂਹ) ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬੇ-ਮੁਰਸ਼ਿਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹੁਣੇ ਹੀ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਦਿਉ ।੪।੧।
Going to the world hereafter, those who have no Guru are not accepted; they are beaten, and expelled. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Forever and ever, meditate in remembrance on the Lord and Master; with each and every breath, speak His Glorious Praises.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਦੇਹ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਨਾਮ (ਸਦਾ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ)
Prays Nanak, let me become the dust of the feet of the Saints. God's Name is invaluable. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਗਾਉਣੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਣ (ਗਾਉਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਿੱਖੇ ਹਨ ।
The Glorious Praises of the Lord are pleasing to the Lord; I have obtained them from the Guru.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those who surrender to, and obey the Guru's Will. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ।
Continually, continuously, remember and cherish your Beloved Lord in your heart.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਚੰਗੇ) ਗੁਣ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਨ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਤੁਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੇਗਾ ।੫।
For if you depart with virtue, then pain shall never afflict you. ||5||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਸਾਂਝ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
In the partnership of virtue, peace wells up, and they perform true devotional worship service.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹਾਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਦਾ) ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨੬।
They deal in Truth, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and they earn the profit of the Naam. ||26||
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਡੱਬਾ ਲੱਭ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਡੱਬਾ ਖੋਹਲ ਕੇ (ਡੱਬੇ ਵਿਚਲੀ) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
One who has a basket of fragrant virtues, should enjoy its fragrance.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ, ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
If my friends have virtues, I will share in them.
ਜੋ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਵਲੋਂ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਮਾਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਇਥੇ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ, ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਅਉਗਣ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The false mind is hunted by the Messenger of Death; it carries its faults along when it goes.
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਰਤ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ) ।
The mind turns inward, and merges with mind, when it is with virtue.
(ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਪੈਂਡਾ ਬੜਾ ਔਖਾ ਤੇ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਇਕ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਦਾ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਹੈ) ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ ।
The path is difficult and treacherous; the pools and mountains are impassable.
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤਾਂ ਕਈ ਔਗੁਣ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮੰਜ਼ਲ ਤੇ ਅੱਪੜਾਂ? (ਭਾਵ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ) ।
My body is filled with faults; I am dying of grief. Without virtue, how can I enter my home?
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The Word of the Shabad is deep within the nucleus of the self; good fortune is recorded upon their foreheads.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
Through the True Word of the Shabad, they sing the True Praises of the Lord; they are attuned to contemplative meditation on the Shabad. ||3||
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਗਾਹਕ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ (ਕੋਈ) ਗੁਣ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਵੇਚੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਣ ਸਸਤੇ-ਭਾ ਵਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ) ।
If virtue is sold when there is no buyer, then it is sold very cheap.
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦਾ ਗਾਹਕ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
But if one meets a buyer of virtue, then virtue sells for hundreds of thousands.
ਜਗਤ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੋਟਲੀ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।
People tie up bundles of demerits; no one deals in virtue.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਣ ਖ਼ਰੀਦਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Rare is that person, O Nanak, who purchases virtue.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਦੀਵੇ ਵਿਚ) ਤੇਲ ਬਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Love is the oil in the lamp, which unites the soul-bride with her Lord. The bride is delighted, in ecstasy.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਗਈ, ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰਿਆ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਬਚੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ ।
One who dies in faults and demerits - her death is not successful. But one who dies in glorious virtue, really truly dies.
