ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਅਸਲ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹ ਹੈ
Prays Nanak, what is the nature of the spiritual people?
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਅਕਲ-ਦਾਤਾ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ
They are self-realized; they understand God.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
The Lord is the One who speaks, teaches and listens.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
One who contemplates his own self is truly wise. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!) ਤੁਸੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝੋ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ) ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
They are not bound by pleasure and pain - know that they are truly wise.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ, ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿਲੀ) ਮੰਨੋ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੩।੭।
O Nanak, recognize those mortal beings as liberated, who live this way of life. ||3||7||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਬੇੜਾ ਪਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the Company of the God-conscious being, all are saved.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ (ਹੀ) (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
O Nanak, through the God-conscious being, the whole world meditates on God. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੁਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ;
They are intuitively wise, and they are Vaishnaavs, worshippers of Vishnu; they are spiritually wise, wealthy and prosperous.
ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਸਲ) ਸੂਰਮਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ) ਧਨਾਢ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
They are spiritual heros, of noble birth, who vibrate upon the Lord God.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਜਗਤ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ) ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਉਹੀ ਹਨ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਸ) ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ
The world is held in bondage; he alone is emancipated, who conquers his ego.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਤ-ਆਚਰਨ ਉਸ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੈ,
How rare in the world is that wise person, who practices this.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
One who remembers the Lord is a spiritual teacher; the ignorant one acts blindly.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਹੋ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, whatever one does in this world, determines what he shall receive in the world hereafter. ||1||
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਿਆਨ-ਵਾਨ (ਅਖਵਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੈ ।
He alone is a spiritual teacher, who lovingly focuses his consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed, egotistical manmukh loses his honor.
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ!) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੋਪਾਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
One who contemplates the Lord's Virtues is spiritually wise.
ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੋੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਗੋਪਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Through His Virtues, one receives spiritual wisdom.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone is spiritually wise, who contemplates his own self.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣੇ—(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਹੀ ਅਸਲ) ਖੱਟੀ ਹੈ । ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੫।੨।੧੯।
O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the true profit is obtained; in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the fruit of Truth is obtained. ||15||2||19||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਲੰਮੀ) ਉਮਰ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਕਦੇ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ । ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਮੁਕਾ ਕੇ (ਇੱਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
No one lives long enough to accomplish all he wishes.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ , ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਹੀ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Only the spiritually wise live forever; they are honored for their intuitive awareness.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ (ਕੋਈ) ਡਰਾਵੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ, ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਡਰਾਵੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ (ਡਰਾਵਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਘਬਰਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)
One who does not frighten anyone, and who is not afraid of anyone else
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸੁਣ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝ ।੧੬।
- says Nanak, listen, mind: call him spiritually wise. ||16||
