ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ
Those who do not have the Assets of Truth-how can they find peace?
ਜੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਖੋਟਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਭੀ ਖੋਟਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ ਖੋਟਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਖੋਟ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
By dealing their deals of falsehood, their minds and bodies become false.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ-ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਲਾਲ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ (ਭੀ) ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਹੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
But when the time comes to settle their accounts, their red robes are corrupt.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, (ਅੰਦਰ ਖੋਟ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਹੋਵੇ) ਇਹ ਖੋਟਾ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
His Love is not obtained through hypocrisy. Her false coverings bring only ruin. ||1||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ਜੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
If someone receives the Glory of the Naam, he is attuned to truth and blessed with honor.
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ) ਨਾਹ ਖਰਾ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਖੋਟਾ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹੀ ਭਲੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
Those who are pleasing to You are good; no one is counterfeit or genuine. ||3||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਰੱਬੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The wealth of the self-willed manmukhs is false, and false is their ostentatious display.
ਉਹ ਨਿਰੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They practice falsehood, and suffer terrible pain.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਚੱਕਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
Without the Name, they suffer the agonies of coming and going.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਪਰਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਖੋਟਾ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਖਰਾ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ) ।੧੩।
O Nanak, the Lord Himself is the Appraiser, who distinguishes the counterfeit from the genuine. ||13||
ਤੂੰ ਅਤਰ ਚੰਦਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਵਰਤਦੀ ਹੈਂ ।
you apply scented oils of sandalwood and musk,
ਪਰ ਚੰਡਾਲ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੈੜਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
but your constant companion is the demon of anger. ||3||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਖੋਟਾ ਰੁਪਇਆ ਸਰਾਫ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖੋਟ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
He stands exposed, like a counterfeit coin, when inspected by the Lord, the Assayer.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖੀ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਖੋਟ) ਲੁਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows everything; how can we hide anything from Him? ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਘਾਟਾ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਹੈ,
The love of Maya is totally painful; this is a bad deal.
ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾਧੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵਧਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Speaking falsehood, one eats poison, and the evil within increases greatly.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ।
Their comings and goings never end; emotional attachment to Maya is dear to them.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ) ਹੈ, (ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਘਾਟਾ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਹੈ ।੨।
The love of Maya is totally painful; this is a bad deal. ||2||
ਜੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਰੁਪਏ ਨੂੰ (ਖਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਰੱਖ ਦੇਈਏ, (ਖਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਰਲਾ ਦੇਈਏ,
If it is kept and mixed with other coins,
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਖੋਟਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
it will be found to be false, when the coins are inspected. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਰੱਬੀ ਨਿਯਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਕਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
In the Court of the Lord, three inscriptions are recorded.
ਪਰ ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵੇਖ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਖੋਟਾ ਸਿੱਕਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਖੋਟੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖੋਟਾ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਲੇਖ ਭੀ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ।੧।
Behold, the counterfeit coin is worthless there. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਵੇਖ, ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੌਤਕ ਬੜੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
So behold the Wondrous and Amazing Play of the Lord. In an instant, He distinguishes the genuine from the counterfeit.
ਸੁੱਧ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਖੋਟੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੩।
And that is why His humble servant is in bliss. Those of pure heart meet together, while the evil ones regret and repent. ||3||
