ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ! ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਹਨ—ਖਾਣ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਕੁੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਭੌਂਕਦਾ ਹੈ), ਝੂਠ (ਬੋਲਣ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਚੂਹੜਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ), (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਠੱਗ ਕੇ ਖਾਣਾ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਮੁਰਦਾਰ ਹੈ
Greed is a dog; falsehood is a filthy street-sweeper. Cheating is eating a rotting carcass.
ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਮੂਲਚੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਮੈਲ ਹੈ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ-ਅੱਗ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਚੰਡਾਲ (ਬਣੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ)
Slandering others is putting the filth of others into your own mouth. The fire of anger is the outcaste who burns dead bodies at the crematorium.
ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ-ਰੂਪ ਅਫੀਮ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
The Great Giver has given the intoxicating drug of falsehood.
(ਇਸ ਮੋਹ-ਅਫੀਮ ਨੂੰ ਖਾ ਕੇ) ਮਸਤ ਹੋਈ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੇ ਮੌਤ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ-ਰਲੀਆਂ ਮਾਣ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ
The people are intoxicated; they have forgotten death, and they have fun for a few days.
ਅਤਰ ਚੰਦਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਾਈਆਂ, ਪਾਨ ਮੰਗਾਏ ਤੇ ਕਪੂਰ ਮੰਗਾਇਆ
she may sweeten her breath with betel leaf and camphor,
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਚੰਗੀ ਨ ਲੱਗੀ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਏ (ਇਹੀ ਹਾਲ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਉੱਦਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੀਝਦਾ) ।੪।
but if this bride is not pleasing to her Husband Lord, then all these trappings are false. ||4||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ (ਲੋਭੀ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕੱੁਤਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ (ਬੁਰਕੀ ਬੁਰਕੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦਰ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਨਿਘਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Those who practice falsehood are dogs; those who slander the Guru shall burn in their own fire.
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਜਮਰਾਜ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁੱਝੀ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਭੋਹ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹ
They wander lost and confused, deceived by doubt, suffering in terrible pain. The Messenger of Death shall beat them to a pulp.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦੇ) ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
The Gurmukhs do not like falsehood. They are imbued with Truth; they love only Truth.
(ਪਰ) ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ । ਕੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਭੀ ਝੂਠੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਭੀ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ)
The shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not like the Truth; false are the foundations of the false.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ) ਝੂਠ ਛੁਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਹੱਕ) ਮੁਰਦਾਰ (ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ)
Falsehood is my dagger; through deception, I eat the carcasses of the dead.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਂਹਸੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||1||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਉਲੰਘ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ
The True King has written His Order, which no one can erase.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ-ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੇ, ਉਹ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ-ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਠਗਾ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
The self-willed manmukhs do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. The false are plundered by falsehood. ||2||
ਹੇ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਵਣਜਾਰਨ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਏ ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਲੁੱਟ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ)
O woman, the false ones are being cheated by falsehood.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
God is your Husband; He is Handsome and True. He is obtained by reflecting upon the Guru. ||1||Pause||
(ਤਪ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ (ਜੇਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪੇ੍ਰਮ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੋਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਜੇ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪੇ੍ਰਮ ਤੋਂ) ਕੋਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ
Thousands of clever mental tricks have been tried, but still, the raw and undisciplined mind does not absorb the Color of the Lord's Love.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਹਠ-ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ) ਠੱਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ । (ਇਹ ਪੱਕਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕੋਈ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
By falsehood and deception, none have found Him. Whatever you plant, you shall eat. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਹ (ਆਉਂਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ
O my mind, serve the True One, as long as you have the breath of life.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without the True One, everything is false; in the end, all shall perish. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ) ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ (ਅਣਪਛਾਤਾ) ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
He does not understand his own origins; the merchandise remains within the door of his own house.
ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਪਾਰਨ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਕੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਲੁੱਟੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ-ਵੱਖਰ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Without this commodity, there is great pain. The false are ruined by falsehood. ||2||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਦਾਜ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਵਿਖਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ (ਵਿਖਾਲਾ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹ ਝੂਠਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕੱਚ (ਸਮਾਨ) ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਨਿਰਾ) ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ
Any other dowry, which the self-willed manmukhs offer for show, is only false egotism and a worthless display.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਦਾਜ ਦੇਹ ।੪।
O my father, please give me the Name of the Lord God as my wedding gift and dowry. ||4||
ਹੋਰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ) ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਉੱਦਮ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਬੋਲਣਾ (ਭੀ) ਵਿਅਰਥ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ) ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰ (ਵਧਾੳਂੁਦੇ ਹਨ)
False is other reading, and false is other speaking, in the love of Maya.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭਣਾ), (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਪੜ੍ਹਨੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
O Nanak, without the Name, nothing is permanent; those who read and read are ruined. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਹਰੀ !) ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਅਪੜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ
You created the entire universe, and You Yourself bring sustenance to it.
(ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਕਈ ਜੀਵ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ਼ਕ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹੋਏ) ਵਲ-ਛਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਢਿੱਡ ਭਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਕੂੜ ਕੁਸੱਤ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ
Some eat and survive by practicing fraud and deceit; from their mouths they drop falsehood and lies.
ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਜੀਵ (ਸਰੀਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Those who struggle with something other than their own mind, shall depart having wasted their lives.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਵਿਚ (ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕੂੜ-ਕੁਸੱਤ (ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
The self-willed manmukhs, through stubborn-mindedness and the practice of falsehood, lose the game of life.
ਉਹ ਨਿਰੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They practice falsehood, and suffer terrible pain.
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੭।
Deluded by doubt, they wander day and night; through birth and death, they lose their lives. ||7||
ਸਗੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹੇ ।
Consumed by desire, they have no understanding at all.
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ-ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹੀ ਇੱਕਠੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇ੍ਰਹ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ) ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।੭।
They purchase poison, and they are thirsty with their fascination for poison. Telling lies, they eat poison. ||7||
ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਿਆ ।
Through the love with duality, no one has found peace.
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੱਝਦੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।੬।
They write falsehood, and they practice falsehood; they are burnt to ashes by focusing their consciousness on falsehood. ||6||
ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਫਲ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸਾਥ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Some are stuck in falsehood, and false are the rewards they receive.
(ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਦਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
In love with duality, they waste away their lives in vain.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ਲਤਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਡੋਬੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੬।
They drown themselves, and drown their entire family; speaking lies, they eat poison. ||6||
(ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਝੂਠ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਠੱਗੀ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ । ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
The filth of fraud and falsehood does not stick to those who, by Guru's Grace, remain awake and aware, night and day.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੫।
The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides deep within their hearts; their light merges into the Light. ||5||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Falsehood has vanished, duality has been erased, and they are totally overflowing with Truth.
ਉਹ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They serve the Supreme Lord God, and enshrine the One Lord within their minds.
(ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ (ਆਪ ਤਾਂ) ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ
Telling lies, they eat dead bodies.
ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਝੂਠ ਨਾਹ ਬੋਲੋ),
And yet, they go out to teach others.
(ਪਰ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੂੜ (ਹੀ) ਵਿਹਾਝਦੇ ਹਨ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The self-willed manmukhs are always false; they are deluded by doubt.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਬਾ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕੇ;
They dwell in manure, and they do not know the taste of the Name.
ਦੁਨੀਆ (ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ) ਖੋਟੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਕਮਾਈ ਕੂੜ (ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਹੈ) ।
Investing counterfeit capital, they earn only falsehood in the world.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਨਿਰੋਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਏਥੋਂ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੪।
O Nanak, singing the Praises of the Pure, True Lord, they depart with honor. ||14||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਇਹ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।
When it pleases You, we are attuned to the Name, and when it pleases You, we become pleasing to You.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਰ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਕੂੜ ਕਮਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਸਉਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ) ।੧।
Nanak utters this one prayer; everything else is just the practice of falsehood. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਾਭ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The profit of devotional worship is excellent. It is obtained by the Gurmukh.
ਪਰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰਾ ਕੂੜ ਨਿਰਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed manmukhs are trapped in the darkness of falsehood; they practice nothing but falsehood.
ਇਹ ਘੋਰ ਕਲ-ਜੁਗੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ (ਮਾਨੋਂ) ਛੁਰੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਰਾਜੇ ਜ਼ਾਲਮ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਧਰਮ ਖੰਭ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the knife, and the kings are butchers; righteousness has sprouted wings and flown away.
ਕੂੜ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਮੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਸੱਚ-ਰੂਪ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
In this dark night of falsehood, the moon of Truth is not visible anywhere.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਬੰਦਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
He blends His devotees with Himself; they practice Truth, and only Truth.
ਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੁੰਝਾਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਵਿਹੁ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
The Lord Himself leads the people of the world astray; they tell lies, and by telling lies, they eat poison.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੂੜ ਦੇ (ਸਉਦੇ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜ ਸਕੀਦਾ,
No one enters the Court of the True Lord through falsehood.
ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ-ਥਾਂ ਗਵਾ ਬੈਠੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By uttering falsehood and only falsehood, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is lost.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦੇਈਏ, ਤਾਂ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕੂੜ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
Without the True One, all are false, and all practice falsehood.
(ਇਸ ਕੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਇਤਨਾ ਗੱਡਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੂੜ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜਕੜ ਕੇ ਭਟਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Without the True One, the false ones are bound and gagged and driven off.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਝੂਠ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
Without the True One, the false ones do not attain the Lord's Court.
ਕੂੜੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਗਵਾ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Attached to false attachments, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is lost.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ! ਤੂੰ ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੂੜ ਕਮਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ), ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਕੂੜ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਕੀਤੇ ਮਾੜੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਰ ਚੁਕਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You practice greed, avarice and great falsehood, and you carry such a heavy burden.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਇਉਂ ਰੁਲਦੇ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਆਹ ।੧।
O body, I have seen you blowing away like dust on the earth. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਲਈ ।
renounce falsehood and enshrine love for the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
Their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਨੀ ਪੁਚਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ
In the True Court, they lie;
ਉਹ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।
the blind fools strike their own heads with their own hands. ||2||
ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੇ ।
- none of them shall be able to remain in the world.
ਪਰ ਬਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਚੋਟ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਹੈ ।੫।
Death is inevitable; it strikes the heads of the false. ||5||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱੁਤਰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸੀ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Without the Shabad of her Beloved, how can she cross over the treacherous ocean? Attachment to Maya has led her astray.
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ (ਜਾਣੋ ਕਿ) ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਹ ਛੁੱਟੜ ਹੋਈ ਪਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੀ ।
Ruined by falsehood, she is deserted by her Husband Lord. The soul-bride does not attain the Mansion of His Presence.
ਉਹ ਝੂਠੇ ਤੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਣਜਾਰਨ ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The false bride is attached to falsehood; the insincere one is cheated by insincerity.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕੂੜੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਵਾਂਦੀ ।
She who drives out her falsehood, and acts according to the Guru's Teachings, does not lose her life in the gamble.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਝੂਠ ਠੱਗੀ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
This body is filled to overflowing with falsehood, deception and the commission of sins.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੌ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦੀ ।
The Gurmukh practices that devotional worship, by which the celestial music wells up; without this devotional worship, filth is not removed.
(ਪਰ) ਕੂੜ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਕਪਟ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਿਛੇ ਸਿੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਉਠਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
The false ones are left behind; because of the falsehood and deceit in their hearts, they suffer in terrible pain.
ਕੂੜਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ (ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਕਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੂੜ ਦਾ ਨਿਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
Black are the faces of the false; the false remain just false. ||6||
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਲੰਮਾ ਪਾਜ (ਦਿਖਾਵਾ) ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਲੁਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ, (ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ)?
Their falsehood and fraud cannot remain concealed; their false appearances fall off in the end.
ਪਿਛਲੇ (ਕੀਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਭਲੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ) ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who has such pre-ordained destiny comes to meet God through the True Guru.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ, ਓਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਬੰਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ (ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ) ਦਾ ਠੱਗਿਆ (ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,)
One who does not obey the Hukam, the Command of the Perfect Guru - that self-willed manmukh is plundered by his ignorance and poisoned by Maya.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਝੂਠ ਹੈ (ਸੱਚ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਹ) ਝੂਠ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਖਸਮ ਨੇ (ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਝਗੜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ,
Within him is falsehood, and he sees everyone else as false; the Lord has tied these useless conflicts around his neck.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਝੂਠ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮੂੰਹ ਫਿੱਕਾ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ;
One who does not serve the True Guru, and who praises himself, is filled with falsehood within. Cursed, cursed is his ugly face.
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਹੱਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ (ਅੰਦਰ ਕੂੜ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਭੀ ਭਰਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।੮।
His words are not pleasing to anyone; his face is blackened, and he is separated from the True Guru. ||8||
ਕੂੜ (ਰੂਪ) ਮੁਲੰਮਾ (ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ) ਲਪੇਟ ਕੇ ਰਖੋ, (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਜੋ ਝੂਠ ਤੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਲੁਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ
Falsehood and deception may be covered with false coatings, but they cannot remain hidden.
(ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਐਵੇਂ) ਝੂਠੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਝੂਠ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਲੁਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ) ।
False is the uttering of praises, by those who love falsehood.
ਸਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਓਥੇ (ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਭੇਡਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ (ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ) ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕੂੜ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ
There is no food for them there; the false go into the filth like sheep.
ਜੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਚੰਗਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਖਵਾਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਭੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ (ਨਿੰਦਾ-ਰੂਪ) ਵਿਹੁ ਹੀ ਉਗਲ ਕੇ ਕੱਢਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If you try to feed the faithless cynic, he will spit out poison from his mouth.
ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਝੂਠ, ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
He commits the sins of fraud and unrighteousness.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹ ਸੁਣੇ ਕੀਹ ਤੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਵੇ ਕੀਹ? (ਭਾਵ, ਕੂੜ-ਕੁਸੱਤ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤਾਂ ਪਾਪੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
What can he hear, and what can he tell others?
ਕੋਈ ਧਿਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ, ਸੱਚੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਝੂਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਲ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪਣਾ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ।
Falsehood does not mix with the Truth; O people, check it out and see.
ਝੂਠੇ ਝੂਠਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜਾ ਰਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਜਾ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨੬।
The false go and mingle with the false, while the truthful Sikhs sit by the side of the True Guru. ||26||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਉਂਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ
They come and go, and wander in reincarnation; even in their dreams, they find no peace.
ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ-ਰੂਪ) ਕੂੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਜ਼ਬਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ) ਕੂੜ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਕੂੜ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
They practice falsehood and they speak falsehood; attached to falsehood, they become false.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਸਰਧਾ-ਭਰੀਆਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who practices falsehood comes and goes.
ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ
By speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.
(ਨਿਰੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
The intellect of the self-willed manmukh is engrossed in falsehood.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
Without the meditative remembrance of the Lord, it suffers in sin. ||2||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਿਰਾ ਝੂਠ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੂੜ-ਠੱਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਇਉਂ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
He slanders others, and practices utter falsehood.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗੰਦ ਦਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਣਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ।੩।
He is a maggot in manure, and into manure he is absorbed. ||3||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਰ-ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗੀ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲੁਟਾ ਕੇ ਬੜੀ ਛੇਤੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through falsehood, fraud and deceit, the mortal collapses in an instant - he has no foundation at all.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਕਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖ (ਇਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ) ।੪।੩।੪੨।
Truly, truly, truly, Nanak speaks; look within your own heart, and realize this. ||4||3||42||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਗਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਾਏ ਚਰਾਂਦ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣਾ ਮਾਲ-ਡੰਗਰ ਚਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤਿਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।
As the shepherd is in the field for only a short time, so is one in the world.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਆਦਮੀ (ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਪੱਕੇ ਘਰ ਮਕਾਨ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Practicing falsehood, they build their homes. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਰੋਣ ਦਾ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਪਿੱਟਣਾ ਪਿੱਟਦੇ ਹੋ, ਵਿਅਰਥ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ ।
You are engrossed in worldly entanglements, O Siblings of Destiny, and you are practicing falsehood.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਰੋਣਾ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ । ਤੁਸੀ (ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰੀ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ ।੪।
The dead person does not hear anything at all; your cries are heard only by other people. ||4||
ਜੇ ਕੱਲਰ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਤੀ ਬੀਜੀ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਬੀਜਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੱਟ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Planting the seeds in the rocky soil, how can one reap a profit?
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਰਚ-ਮਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ । ਝੂਠ ਝੂਠ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
The self-willed manmukh is not pleased with Truth; the false are buried in falsehood. ||4||
ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ।
Through Truth, one meets the True One; He is not obtained through falsehood.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੀਦਾ ।੨।
Centering your consciousness on the True Lord, you shall not have to come into the world again. ||2||
ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ) ਵਿਅਰਥ-ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਖਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
The forsaken brides wander around, deluded by doubt; telling lies, they eat poison.
ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੀਆਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਸਦਾ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।੪।
They do not know their Husband Lord, and upon their deserted bed, they suffer in misery. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭੋਲੇ ਰਾਹੀ (ਜੀਵ)! ਉੱਠ, ਤੁਰ (ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋ) । ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਚਿਰ ਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ!
Rise up and go forth, O traveller; why do you delay?
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਠੱਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ?
Your allotted time is now complete - why are you engrossed in falsehood?
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਤੂੰ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨੇ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਚੇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ) ਗਲਾਵਾਂ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ) ਲੈ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ।
The sins you have committed shall not leave you; placing the noose around your neck, they shall lead you away.
ਤੂੰ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਿਆਲੀ ਨਗਰੀ (ਵਰਗੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਠੱਗਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਠੱਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਸੇਜ ਨੂੰ (ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ) ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।
Beholding an illusion, you are deceived, and on your bed, you enjoy a false lover.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ) ਧੋਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਖਰੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਦੀ) ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Do not practice deception - God is the Assayer of all.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਗਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਜੰਮਦੇ (ਮਰਦੇ) ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who practice falsehood and deceit are reincarnated in the world.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ), (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ) ਰਾਜਾ (ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਲੋਕ) ਪਰਜਾ (ਹਨ)
False is the king, false are the subjects; false is the whole world.
(ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਾਮਿਆਨੇ ਤੇ ਮਹਲ ਮਾੜੀਆਂ (ਹਨ, ਇਹ) ਭੀ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਰਾਜਾ) ਭੀ ਛਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ ।
False is the mansion, false are the skyscrapers; false are those who live in them.
(ਜਗਤ ਰੂਪ ਛਲ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਪਰਤ ਕੇ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਅਸਲੇ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਰੱਬ) ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਏ ।
One knows the Truth only when the Truth is in his heart.
ਤਦੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫੇਰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ ਸੰੁਦਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਇੰਦਰੇ ਭੀ ਗੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਰੀਰ ਧੁਪ ਕੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The filth of falsehood departs, and the body is washed clean.
(ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਸੱਚ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਹੀ ਕੂੜ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕਲਜੁਗ ਦੀ (ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕਾਲਖ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੀਵ ਭੂਤਨੇ ਬਣ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪਰਬਲ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਜਣਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਣ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਨੋ ਭੂਤਨੇ ਹਨ) ।
There is a famine of Truth; falsehood prevails, and the blackness of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga has turned men into demons.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਬੀਜ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਬੀਜਿਆ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਗਏ । ਪਰ ਹੁਣ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਅੰਕੁਰ ਫੁਟਣੋਂ ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮਨ) ਦਾਲ ਵਾਂਗ (ਦੋ-ਫਾੜ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਭਾਵ ਦੁਚਿੱਤਾ-ਪਨ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦਾ) ।
Those who planted their seed have departed with honor; now, how can the shattered seed sprout?
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜੀਭ ਦਾ ਚਸਕਾ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ, ਪਾਪ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਹੈ,
Greed and sin are the king and prime minister; falsehood is the treasurer.
(ਇਸੇ ਲੱਬ ਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ ਨਾਇਬ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਪੱੁਛੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।
Sexual desire, the chief advisor, is summoned and consulted; they all sit together and contemplate their plans.
ਦੁਆਪਰ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਰਥ ‘ਤਪੁ’ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ‘ਤਪ’ ਰੂਪ ਰਥ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰਥਵਾਹੀ ‘ਸਤੁ’ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ‘ਤਪ’ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ‘ਉੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ’ ਦੇ ਆਸ਼ਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਪ, ਕਸ਼ਟ ਝੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
In the Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga, penance was the chariot and truth the charioteer.
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਰਥ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ‘ਅੱਗ’ ਰੂਪ ਰਥ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰਥਵਾਹੀ ‘ਕੂੜੁ’ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ‘ਕੂੜੁ’ ਠੱਗੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ‘ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ’ ਰੂਪ ਅੱਗ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਕੂੜ ਠੱਗੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਅੱਗ ਭੜਕਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ।
In the Iron Age of Kali Yuga, fire is the chariot and falsehood the charioteer. ||1||
ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਇਹ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Speaking falsehood, they take their food.
ਹੁਣ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਉਠ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਨਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਹਯਾ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
The home of modesty and Dharma is far from them.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਝੂਠ ਹੀ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
O Nanak, they are totally permeated with falsehood.
ਮਨ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਕ ਲੋਭ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਭ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੂਤਕ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੈ); ਜੀਭ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਕ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ-ਰੂਪ ਸੂਤਕ ਹੈ);
The impurity of the mind is greed, and the impurity of the tongue is falsehood.
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ) ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਾਈਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਤੱਕਣ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਕ (ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ);
The impurity of the eyes is to gaze upon the beauty of another man's wife, and his wealth.
ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੱਚਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, (ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ, ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ) ਡਿੱਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
What love is this between the body and soul, which ends when the body falls?
ਜਦੋਂ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ?
Why feed it by telling lies? When you leave, it does not go with you.
ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਉਲਟਾ ਕਉਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ
The self-willed manmukh is like the inverted lotus; he has neither devotional worship, nor the Lord's Name.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਜਨ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ) ਹੈ
He remains engrossed in material wealth, and his efforts are false.
ਐਸੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਧਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੇ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਗ਼ਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੈ ।
He does not mingle with the righteous; within him are falsehood and selfishness.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਐਸੀ ਖੇਡ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਹੜ੍ਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
O Nanak, the Creator Lord has arranged things, so that the self-willed manmukhs are drowned by telling lies, while the Gurmukhs are saved by chanting the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਰੂਪ ਕਿਲੇ੍ਹ ਵਿਚ ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਕੁਸੱਤ-ਰੂਪ ਕਰੜੇ ਫਾਟਕ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ
Within the fortress of body, are the hard and rigid doors of falsehood, deception and pride.
ਪਰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ ।
Deluded by doubt, the blind and ignorant self-willed manmukhs cannot see them.
ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ
Truly, the True Lord is seen to be the Truest of the True.
(ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨਘੜਤ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦੀ ।
Nothing established by You appears to be false.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ,
The self-willed manmukh is emotionally attached to Maya - he has no love for the Naam.
ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਰੂਪ) ਕੂੜ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ, ਕੂੜ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
He practices falsehood, gathers in falsehood, and makes falsehood his sustenance.
ਸਰੀਰ (ਮਾਨੋ) (ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਕੱਢਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮਗਰੀ ਸਮੇਤ) ਮੱਟੀ ਹੈ
The human body is the vat, self-conceit is the wine, and desire is the company of drinking buddies.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ, ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਮਹਿਫ਼ਲ ਹੈ
The cup of the mind's longing is overflowing with falsehood, and the Messenger of Death is the cup-bearer.
ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਗੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਤੀਰਥ-) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
Why bother to wash the body, polluted by falsehood?
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨ੍ਹਾਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One's cleansing bath is only approved, if he practices Truth.
ਜਿਥੇ ਭੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੀਏ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੋ੍ਰਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Wherever you go and sit, speak well, and write the Word of the Shabad in your consciousness.
(ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਤੀਰਥ-) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ? ।੧।
Why bother to wash the body which is polluted by falsehood? ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਘਾਟਾ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਹੈ,
The love of Maya is totally painful; this is a bad deal.
ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾਧੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵਧਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Speaking falsehood, one eats poison, and the evil within increases greatly.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ? (ਇਹ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤਾਂ) ਹਵਾ ਦੇ ਬੱੁਲਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Why do you listen to falsehood? It shall vanish like a gust of wind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਉਹ ਕੰਨ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
O Nanak, those ears are acceptable, which listen to the True Master. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਜੋ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣਾ ਸਮਾ ਮੁਕਾ ਕੇ) ਚਲਾ ਜਾਇਗਾ, ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ (ਵਿਅਰਥ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ ।
Everyone who comes here, shall have to leave; to act in ego is false.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਸਮਝੋ ਜੋ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।
Nanak: he alone truly weeps, O Baba, who weeps in the Lord's Love. ||4||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦਾ,
By falsehood and greed, no place of rest is found, and no place in the world hereafter is obtained.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ । ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੰੁਞੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਗਏ ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਦੀ ਗਰਾਹੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣੀ) (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਣਾ—ਆਓ ਜੀ, ਅੰਦਰ ਲੰਘ ਆਵੋ ਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਵੋ ।
No one invites him to come in and sit down. He is like a crow in a deserted home.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਵਣਜਾਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਠੱਗੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
She who does not know her Husband Lord, the Architect of karma, is deluded by falsehood - she herself is false.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਓ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ) ਸੁਣ ਲੈਣੀ—ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ ।੧।
Listen, O brides of the Lord: serve your Beloved Husband Lord, and contemplate the Word of His Shabad. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਲੋਭ ਛੱਡ, ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਤਿਆਗ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਫਲ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ ।
Let greed and slander be far away from you, and renounce falsehood; through the True Word of the Guru's Shabad, you shall obtain the true fruit.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਖ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੪।੯।
As it pleases You, You preserve me, Dear Lord; servant Nanak sings the Praises of Your Shabad. ||4||9||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਖੇਤ ਕੱਲਰ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ-ਬੀਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਉੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ । ਸਾਕਤ) ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਹੀ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਖਲਵਾੜੇ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Taking a barren field, they plant falsehood; they shall harvest only falsehood.
(ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਾਕਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਬਲੀ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੬।
The materialistic people shall all remain hungry; the brutal Messenger of Death stands waiting at their door. ||6||
