ਜਿਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਨਾ—ਇਹੋ (ਜੀਵ ਲਈ) ਵੱਡੀ (ਕਰਣੀ) ਹੈ
Great is the Greatness of the Lord, and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਜਿਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਨਾ—ਇਹੋ (ਜੀਵ ਲਈ) ਵੱਡੀ (ਕਰਣੀ) ਹੈ
Great is the Greatness of the Lord; His Justice is totally Righteous.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਉਸ ਦਵਾਈ ਨਾਲ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ।
is rid of the illnesses of countless lifetimes and incarnations.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹੋ, ਇਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਲਾਭ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
So sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, day and night. This is the most fruitful occupation. ||3||
ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸਹਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ?
What are those teachings, by which we may endure pain and pleasure alike?
ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਢੰਗ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਕੇ ? ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ? ।੪।
What is that lifestyle, by which we may come to meditate on the Supreme Lord? How may we sing the Kirtan of His Praises? ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ) ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਚ ਮੁਚ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
When the Lord, Merciful to the meek, showed His Mercy, I found and tasted it, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਲਿਵ (ਲਾ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੋ । (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਰਸਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਇਹ ਰਸ) ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Lovingly focused upon the Guru, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise has become sweet to me. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਠੰਢੇ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ,
Singing the Kirtan of His Praises, my mind has become peaceful;
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਜਨਮਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।
the sins of countless incarnations have been washed away.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।
Says Nanak, through great good fortune, I have found this. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ
By the Grace of the Saints, one chants the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By the Grace of the Saints, one sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ
Listen to the Kirtan of His Praises, at the Feet of the Holy.
ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈ ।੩।
Your fears of birth and death shall depart. ||3||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Listening to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and singing the Lord's Kirtan,
(ਕੋਈ) ਦੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁੱਕਦਾ ।੨।
misfortune shall not even come near you. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By great good fortune, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O Supreme Lord God, as You give, so do I receive. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
I have obtained the reward of the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਜਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਂ ਭੀ ਨ ਪਿਆ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਢੁੱਕੀ) ।੨।
I no longer have to gaze upon the way of death. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਹ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨ ਲੱਗ ਸਕੇ,
Do only that, by which no filth or pollution shall stick to you.
ਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹੇ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Let your mind remain awake and aware, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਪਰ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Between the Lord and His Saint, there is no difference at all. Among hundreds of thousands and millions, there is scarcely one humble being.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Those whose hearts are illuminated by God, sing the Kirtan of His Praises night and day with their tongues. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ।
When God, the Merciful Guru, showered His Mercy upon me, all my anxieties were dispelled.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।੪।੧੫।੧੫੩।
Nanak has found the peace of the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. All his sorrows have been dispelled. ||4||15||153||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੱਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
As the Guru has taught me, so have I spoken.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਸੁਣ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ (ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਉ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।੧੫੮।
Says Nanak, listen, people: sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and you shall be saved. ||4||1||158||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ,
O my mind, sing such Praises of the Lord,
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਸ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇ, ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
which shall be of use to you here and hereafter. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ।
The unbroken Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is their food and nourishment.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ।੮।੨।
Says Nanak, they have the Perfect True Guru. ||8||2||
ਉਥੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਖਾੜੇ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
There is eternal bliss, and the unstruck celestial music there.
ਉਥੇ ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ।੭।
The devotees dwell there, with the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises as their support. ||7||
ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਤੇਰੇ ਧਰਮ-ਅਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
In these incomparable worship-houses, they continually sing Kirtan, the Praises of their Lord and Master.
(ਹੇ ਮੋਹਨ!) ਜਿਥੇ ਭੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਥੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Where the Saints and the Holy gather together, there they meditate on you.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਤ-ਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, those who sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਏ ।੧੫।
- O Nanak, they do not have to endure reincarnation again. ||15||
(ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੂਤੋ! ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ, ਜਿਥੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੁਸਾਂ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ।
Where the Holy people constantly vibrate the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O Nanak
(ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀ ਉਥੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਖ਼ੁਨਾਮੀ ਤੋਂ) ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ ਬਚਾਂਗਾ, ਨਾਹ ਤੁਸੀ ਬਚੋਗੇ ।੧।
- the Righteous Judge says, "Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death, or else neither you nor I shall escape!"||1||
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ,
who, as Gurmukh, listen to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਾਤਿ-ਪਾਤਿ, ਰੂਪ-ਰੇਖ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਤਿ-ਪਾਤਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਰੂਪ-ਰੇਖ ਦੱਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ) । (ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪੬।,
O Nanak, one who becomes Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and rises above all social classes and status symbols. ||46||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
He is absorbed in devotional worship and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord's Glory.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
Within his mind and body, he meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਉੱਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Night and day, sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the One Lord.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ ।
In the midst of your household, remain balanced and unattached.
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
Service to the Holy is obtained by great good fortune.
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is sung.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
His humble servant sings the Kirtan, the songs of the glory of God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪੀ) ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੧੬।
By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, he receives the fruits of his rewards. ||8||16||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਨਰਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
One is saved from hell, suffering is destroyed, countless pains depart,
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਪਰਵੇਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਮ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
death is overcome, and one escapes the Messenger of Death, by absorption in the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
The Supreme Lord God is pervading amongst all.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਇਹ ਐਸਾ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੧।
O Nanak, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises; this alone is the eternal faith of Dharma. ||11||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਰਹੋ ।
Drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The mind is satisfied by lovingly singing the Kirtan of God's Praises.
ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
The Lord's devotees continually sing the Kirtan of His Praises; the Name of the Lord is the Giver of peace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਣ) ਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦਿਨੋਂ ਦਿਨ ਸਵਾਇਆ ਵਧਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord ever bestows upon His devotees the glorious greatness of His Name, which increases day by day.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ;
Those who are attached to the hem of the Lord's robe, do not suffer birth and death.
ਉਹ ਇਸੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who remain awake to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises - their lives are approved.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਸੁਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who enshrines love for the Lotus Feet of the Lord of the Universe
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
- by the Grace of the Saints, her mind becomes pure; night and day, she remains awake and aware, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
Night and day, I sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Name of the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਦੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੱਸ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਪਲ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The True Guru has revealed to me the Name of the Lord; without the Lord, I cannot live, for a moment, even an instant. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਹੀ (ਰਾਸ-ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ।
My ears hear the Lord's Kirtan, and I contemplate Him; without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੰਸ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
As the swan cannot live without the lake, how can the Lord's slave live without serving Him? ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹ ਨਿਯਮ (ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ) ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਭਗਤ) ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਤਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Nanak proclaims and announces what happens at the Door of the Transcendent Lord.
(ਪਰ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ) ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧੦।
The humble devotees of the Lord are forever in bliss; singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, they blossom forth. ||2||10||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ
Blessed is the attainment of this human body, by which God blends Himself with me.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) (ਲੋਕ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਇਹ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਭੀ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।੪।੮।੪੭।
Blessed, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, is the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.O Nanak, the Naam is my only Support. ||4||8||47||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੌਜ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਰਾਜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ,
The pleasures of royalty are derived from Your Name.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੋਗ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਕੀਰੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ) ।
I attain Yoga, singing the Kirtan of Your Praises. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਦੱਸ
Show me that place, O friend,
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are forever sung. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ!) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਉਮੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਚਿੰਤਾ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਆਦਿਕ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ)
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧। ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ।੭।੫੮।
This place is found through the Guru. ||1||Second Pause||7||58||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
The humble being who sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, day and night,
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁੱਕਦੀ ।੩।
does not have to go with the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ (ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
Their occupation is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਉਹ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਹਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ (ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
The Kirtan, the Praise of the Lord, the embodiment of bliss, is their rest.
ਜਿਥੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੈ,
His Aartee, his lamp-lit worship service, is the Kirtan of His Praises, which brings lasting bliss.
ਉਸ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤੇ ਸੰੁਦਰ (ਹਰਿ-ਸਾਲਗਿਰਾਮ) ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
His Greatness is so beautiful, and ever limitless. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ!) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੇ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਰਾਜ-ਮਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ।
Royal powers, wealth, and worldly involvements are of no use at all.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ ।੨।
The Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is my Support; this wealth is everlasting. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ (ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸ) ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
How rare is that person who drinks in the Ambrosial Essence of the Lord's Kirtan.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਵਜ਼ੀਫ਼ਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੪।੧੧੬।
Nanak has obtained the commodity of the One Name; he lives by chanting and meditating on it within his heart. ||4||14||116||
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Peace, celestial poise and absolute bliss are obtained, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੋਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਨੌ ਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ
Bestowing His Name, the True Guru removes the evil omens. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ।
Suffering departs, and there is peace; singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, one is not consigned to reincarnation again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਵਾਂ ।੪।੨।
Prays Nanak, in the Guru's Sanctuary, one swims across, and is pleasing to God. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ,
May the True Guru be kind to you, and may you love the Society of the Saints.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਕੱਪੜਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਢੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖੇ, ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ ।੨।
May the preservation of your honor by the Transcendent Lord be your clothes, and may the singing of His Praises be your food. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ (ਸੁਚੱਜੀ) ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak has obtained understanding; singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is his only support.
(ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਨਾਮਦੇਵ, ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ, ਕਬੀਰ, ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਚਮਾਰ—ਹਰੇਕ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ।੨।੧।੧੦।
The Lord's servants, Naam Dayv, Trilochan, Kabeer and Ravi Daas the shoe-maker have been liberated. ||2||1||10||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਸੇਵਕ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ) ਜਪ ਤਪ ਹੈ, ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ ।
The Lord's servant sings the Kirtan of His Praises as his worship, deep meditation, self-discipline and religious observances.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ) ਨਿਡਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੩।੧੨।
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of his Lord and Master, and has received the blessings of fearlessness and peace. ||2||3||12||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ) ਆਸਾ (ਇਕ) ਡਰਾਉਣੀ ਕੁੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਲਈ ਭੌਂਕਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਜਾਲ ਖਿਲਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ) ।
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, one is hounded by dreadful desires.
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ (ਇਹ) ਜਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਹੀ ਸੂਝ) ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Through the Guru's spiritual wisdom, we sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and the noose of death is cut away. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ) ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਨਿੱਤ (ਸਵੇਰੇ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਾਂ ।
Within my mind, I think thoughts of always rising early, and making the effort.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਹਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੧।
O Lord, my Friend, please bless Nanak with the habit of singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹੈ
Eternal is the Company of the Holy,
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਹਨ,
Those who deal in Truth, O Dear Lord, are the perfect bankers.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦੀ) ਖੱਟੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They possess the great treasure, O Dear Lord, and they reap the profit of the Lord's Praise.
(ਨਾਮ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਸੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ
Night and day, I continually sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise, through the Infinite Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ, ਜੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਵਰਤਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
I recite continually the Guru's Shabads, which have been effective throughout the ages.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! (ਮੇਰੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਇਹ ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ
Hear my prayer, O Lord and Master; Nanak begs for this happiness:
(ਕਿ) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹੋਣ, ਉੱਥੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।੪।੬।
whereever Your Holy Saints sing the Kirtan of Your Praises, let my mind be attached to that place. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Millions of sins are erased by serving the humble Saints, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord with love.
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋਵੀਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
One finds peace in this world, and one's face is radiant in the next world, by associating with the humble Saints, through great good fortune. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ।
This is what befits the Lord's servant.
(ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ, ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
Beholding the Lord near at hand, he serves the True Guru, and he is satisfied through the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||Pause||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ
The Supreme Lord God has become my helper and friend; His sermon and the Kirtan of His Praises have brought me peace.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ) ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।
Chant the Word of the Perfect Guru's Bani, and be ever in bliss, O mortal. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises day and night,
ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈਦਾ
I shall not be consigned to reincarnation again. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ (ਆਦਿਕ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
When the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, O Beloved, one is blessed with Truth, contentment, wisdom and meditation.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨੱਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Night and day, he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, O Beloved, totally filled with Ambrosial Nectar.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਇਹ ਅਵਸਰ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Your slave is intoxicated with this Love of Yours.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful to me, and this mind is imbued with the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||Second Pause||1||3||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਧੰਨ ਭਾਗ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ;
Blessed, blessed is the good fortune of those holy people, who sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and so become virtuous.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Blessed, blessed is the good fortune of those Gurmukhs, who live as Gursikhs, and conquer their minds.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ-ਜਸ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਕਰ ਲਵਾਂ
Listening to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, I contemplate His virtues; I write His Praises on the fabric of my mind.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਕਰਾਂ ਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟ ਦਿਆਂ ।
I praise the Lord's Name with love, and eradicate all my sins.
ਅਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਖਸਮ ਦੇ ਢਾਢੀ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ
I am a minstrel of God, my Lord and Master; every day, I sing the songs of the Lord's Glorious Praises.
ਉਸ ਕਮਲਾਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਸ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ
I sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and I listen to the Praises of the Lord, the Master of wealth and Maya.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਮੇਰੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਦਿਨ ਆ ਗਏ
Ever since I obtained the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Holy, my days have been blessed and prosperous.
ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।
I have found lasting bliss, singing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Primal Lord, the Architect of destiny. ||1||
ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ, ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਹ ਬਣੇ ।
Others' wealth, others' bodies, and the slander of others - do not attach your love to them.
। ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰਾਂ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬਚਨ-ਬਿਲਾਸ ਰਹੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੇ ।੨।
Associate with the Saints, speak with the Saints, and keep your mind awake to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ।
The Perfect True Guru has given this gift.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
He has blessed me with the Kirtan of the Praises of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and I am emancipated. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਰਸ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
All desires, power, pleasure, joy and lasting bliss, are found by chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and singing the Kirtan of His Praises.
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ (ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਫਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੨੦।੫੧।
That humble servant of the Lord, who has such karma pre-ordained by the Creator Lord, O Nanak - his efforts are brought to perfect fruition. ||2||20||51||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਰਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਜਵਾਨੀ (ਦੇ ਹੁਲਾਰੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਦੁੱਖ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਹੈ—ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ।
In power, youth and Maya, the Lord is forgotten; this is the greatest tragedy - so say the spiritual sages.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਂਘ—ਇਹ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Hope and desire to sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises - this is the treasure of the most fortunate devotees. ||1||
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ (ਵੰਨ ਸੁਵੰਨੇ) ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨ ਲਏ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੋਹਣੀਆਂ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)
He is dressed in robes of all sorts,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
if he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Glorious Praises, day and night. ||2||
ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ
The Merciful Lord is the Savior of the Saints; their only support is to sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ।੧।
One becomes immaculate and pure, by associating with the Saints, O Nanak, and taking the Protection of the Transcendent Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਾਂ, (ਉਹ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ) ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।
Please, bless me with the dust of the feet of Your slaves; I touch it to my forehead.
( ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ । (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
I was a great sinner, but I have been made pure, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Glorious Praises. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣੇ (ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ (ਉੱਚੀ) ਜਾਤਿ ਹ
The Praises of the Lord are my good conduct, occupation and social class.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਵੱਡਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Listening to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, I am in absolute ecstasy. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਲੋਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਸੂਲੀਆ ਜਮ ਲੱੁਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The religious rites, rituals and hypocrisies which are seen, are plundered by the Messenger of Death, the ultimate tax collector.
ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਛਿਨ-ਭਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
In the state of Nirvaanaa, sing the Kirtan of the Creator's Praises; contemplating Him in meditation, even for an instant, one is saved. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੈ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਨ, ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਚ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ
Liberation, comfort and proper lifestyle come from serving You; You alone cause us to serve You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹੀ ਥਾਂ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਹੈ, ਤੰੰੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਸਰਧਾ (ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
That place is heaven, where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung. You Yourself instill faith into us. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
By great good fortune, one sings the Kirtan of God's Praises.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ।੪।੧੧।੧੬।
In the Society of the Saints, Nanak has found God. ||4||11||16||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਿੰਜਦਾ ਰਹੁ,
Irrigate your mind with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।੧।
Night and day, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Blessed is that place, and blessed are those who dwell there, where they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ-ਵਾਰਤਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ (ਸੋਮਾ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Sermon and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung there very often; there is peace, poise and tranquility. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਥਾ-ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ, ਕੀਰਤਨ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ—ਇਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
This is my life's purpose, to sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and listen to the vibrations of the sound current of the Naad.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗਿਆ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।੬।੭੦।
O Nanak, God is totally pleased with me; I have obtained the fruits of my desires. ||2||6||70||
ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ । ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਹੀ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
I take the Support of Your Lotus Feet, O God, Primal Lord, treasure of virtue.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਜਦ ਤਕ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਹ (ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ), ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I shall meditate in remembrance on the Praises of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, as long as there is breath in my body. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ-ਵਾਰਤਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
I listen to God's Teachings from the Saints.
ਉਥੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਥਾ-ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਹੁਲਾਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਰੌ ਸਦਾ ਚਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Lord's Sermon, the Kirtan of His Praises and the songs of bliss perfectly resonate, day and night. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
He alone obtains this treasure, who joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਪਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੨।੨੯।੧੧੫।
O Lord and Master, mercifully bless Nanak with this gift, that he may ever sing the Glorious Praises of Your Kirtan. ||2||29||115||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।
Sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।
The Lord is ever-present, all-pervading. ||1||
ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
With loving devotion, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੦।੧੨।
Meditate on the Supreme Lord God, O Nanak, and you shall be saved. ||4||10||12||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
The Messenger of Death cannot even touch that humble being, who sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖ ।੨।
The Gurmukh realizes his Lord and Master; his coming into this world is approved. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਗਤੀ-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who is committed to loving devotional worship of God, and the Kirtan of His Praises,
ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਘੂਕੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
awakens from the sleep of countless incarnations. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If anyone, out of millions of people, becomes pleasing to his Lord and Master, he sings the Lord's Praises in this way.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I have taken the Support of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ— (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਇਕੋ ਇਕ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੮।
Says Nanak, the Kirtan of the One Lord's Praises are sung there. ||4||8||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The love of God is their food, and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is their support.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਣ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ । ਉਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕੈਸੀ ਹੈ—ਇਸਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
They obtain a permanent seat in the infinite. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ (ਦਾ ਗੀਤ) ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ।
Sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and the Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra.
(ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਆਸਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Even the homeless find a home in the world hereafter.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਕੀਰਤਨ ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
The Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is a priceless diamond.
(ਉਸ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
It is the ocean of bliss and virtue.
ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਯਾਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ;
Some pass their lives practicing control of the breath.
ਪਰ ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ।੪।
The Saints pass their lives singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ-ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਡੋੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੯।
Joining the Society of the Saints, I sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises; I dwell in the eternal, unchanging place. ||9||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ) ਪੂਰੀ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਚੀਜ਼) ਪਿਆਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ।੧੦।
The Perfect Guru has given me the perfect teachings; there is nothing except the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny. ||10||
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ‘ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਿਓ,
Finally, the True Guru said, "When I am gone, sing Kirtan in Praise of the Lord, in Nirvaanaa."
ਕੇਸੋ ਗੋਪਾਲ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਦੇ ਪੰਡਿਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦ ਘੱਲਿਓ, ਜੋ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਵਾਰਤਾ-ਰੂਪ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ।
Call in the long-haired scholarly Saints of the Lord, to read the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੁਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Meet with the holy, humble servants of God; meeting with the Lord, listen to the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
God is the Merciful Master, the Lord of wealth; there is no end to His Virtues.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ ।
Meditating on that God, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean, and their comings and goings cease.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ ।
They enjoy eternal peace and pleasure, singing the Kirtan of God's Praises; His Will seems so sweet to them.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, bliss, peace and rest are obtained.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੋਰ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤਰ ਜਾਹਿਂਗਾ ।੨।
Forsake other clever tricks, O Nanak; only through the Name will you be saved. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ । (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਸੂਝ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।
Sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Lord, the Giver of peace, the Destroyer of pain; He shall bless you with perfect spiritual wisdom.
ਮੈਂ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਟੋਟੇ ਟੋਟੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮੂਰਖ (ਬਣਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ ।੧।
Sexual desire, anger and greed shall be shattered and destroyed, and your foolish ego will be dispelled. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Good karma has dawned for me - my Lord and Master has become merciful. I sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
My struggle is ended; I have found peace and tranquility. All my wanderings have ceased. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮੰਗਣਾ—ਇਹ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਮੰਗ ਹੈ ।੪।
Begging, begging - it is noble to beg for the Lord's Praise from the Guru. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੇਵੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਗਰੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਗਣਾ—ਇਹ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਗਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਜਾਗਰਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
Vigils, vigils - sublime is the vigil spent singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||5||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
but without the Guru, the Transcendent Lord Incarnate, there is no one at all.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਬੰਦਾ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧੧।
Service to the Guru is the way to liberation. Night and day, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||11||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ;
True are those devotees, who are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They sing the Kirtan of His Praises at His Door; they are embellished and exalted by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭਰਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਹੈ,
One who has the Name of the Lord has hundreds of thousands and millions of arms.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਜਸ-ਕੀਰਤਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਧਨ ਹੈ ।
The wealth of the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is with him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ,
At the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਉਚਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Meeting with the True Guru, one chants the Lord's Praises.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਡ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਭੀ) ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ ।
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are most sublime and exalted.
(ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Become Gurmukh, chant and focus your meditation.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
When God pleases, He takes pity on him.
(ਮੰਗਤਾ ਇਉਂ ਮੰਗੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੯।
Please bless me with the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, to satisfy my mind, O Lord. Through the Kirtan of Your Praises, my mind is held steady. ||9||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਮਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ (ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ । ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ) ।
The Messenger of Death does not even approach that person
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
who sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ,
Disease, sorrow and pain do not affect him;
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਹਰੀ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
The One and only Lord is eternal, imperishable, inaccessible and incomprehensible.
ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਭੀ ਅਮੁੱਕ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The treasure of the Naam is eternal and imperishable. Meditating in remembrance on Him, the Lord is attained.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਗਾਂਵਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਭੀ (ਐਸਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Kirtan of His Praises is eternal and imperishable; the Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਪੰਚਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈ । (ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ—(ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਹਾ ਜਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ-ਦਾਨ (ਹੋ ਗਏ) ।
The Puraanas continually praise the giving of charity, but devotional worship of the Lord is only obtained through the Word of Guru Nanak.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਤੁਰਨੇ-ਸਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ) ਆਏ । (ਉਹਨਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ।੬।੪।੧੦।
The important men of the city met together, and sought the Protection of the Guru, the True Guru. ||6||4||10||
ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਉੱਠਦੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
When He comes to mind, I continually sing the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੮।੨੧।
Nanak's mind is pleased and satisfied with the Lord God. ||4||8||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Such a person has the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises for his Support.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੩।੨੬।
Says Nanak, the Lord Himself is merciful to him. ||4||13||26||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ,
Blessed, blessed is the Holy Saint, and blessed is the Name of the Lord.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Kirtan, the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
Spontaneously, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise seems so sweet to my mind.
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੫।
Spontaneously, I behold God in each and every heart. ||5||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
Night and day, he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, day and night.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।
The True Guru drives out sin and doubt from within.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜਾਉ (ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
This spring comes only to those homes,
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
in which the melody of the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises resounds. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ।
The Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is the ultimate melody.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ ।੪।੮।
Meeting with the Guru, Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||8||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਜ-ਬਹਾਰ ਸਮਝ ।
Sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and enjoy the nectar of His Love.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਝਿਜਕਿਆ ਕਰ ।
O mortal, you must always restrain yourself from committing sins.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
With my eyes, I gaze lovingly upon God, my Lord and Master. I chant His Name with my tongue.
ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਰਹੇਂ ।੩।
With my ears, I listen to the Kirtan of His Praises, day and night. I love the Lord, Har, Har, with all my heart. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਭਾਰਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਜੰਗਲ ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ;
Wherever they do not listen to the Stories of the Lord with their ears - the utterly desolate wilderness is there.
ਤੇ, ਜਿਥੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੰਗ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੇ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਐਸਾ ਬਾਗ਼ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ) ਸੰਘਣੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ ।੨।
Where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung with love in the Saadh Sangat - there is fragrance and fruit and joy in abundance. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹਨ ।
Without the Lord's Name, flavors are tasteless and insipid.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਹੈ, ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਗਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Sing the Sweet Ambrosial Praises of the Lord's Kirtan; day and night, the Sound-current of the Naad will resonate and resound. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨੀ, (ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਨਾ—ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
This is the way of life of the Holy Saint: he listens to the Kirtan, the Praises of his Lord and Master, and meditates in remembrance on Him.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He implants the Lord's Lotus Feet deep within his heart; worship of the Lord is the support of his breath of life. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ! (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ) ਜੀਵ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝੀ ।
You have enticed all beings and creatures; no one knows You, except the Saints.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੯੯।੧੨੨।
Slave Nanak is imbued with the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. Focusing his consciousness on the Word of the Shabad, he realizes the Presence of the True Lord. ||2||99||122||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Whoever speaks and listens to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is rid of evil-mindedness.
। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।੧।੧੨।
All hopes and desires, O Nanak, are fulfilled. ||2||1||12||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਇਕ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Kirtan of the Praise of the Lord's Name is a priceless jewel. The Lord has given it for the Holy to keep.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Whoever accepts and follows the Word of the Guru's Teachings as True - this Jewel is taken out and given to him. ||4||
ਕੇਵਲ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ ।
To sing the Kirtan of God's Praises is the righteous duty incurred by taking birth in this human body.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਲ ਪੀਂਦਿਆਂ ਰੱਜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ।੨੬।
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is Ambrosial Nectar, O Nanak. The Saints drink it in, and never have enough of it. ||26||
ਸੰਤ-ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ) ਨਾਲ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਵੈਰੀ-ਦਲ ਉਤੇ ਹੱਲਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They walk fearlessly through the armies of their enemies; they attack them with the Kirtan of God's Praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ-ਜਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੨੯।
They conquer the entire world, O Nanak, and overpower the five thieves. ||29||
ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਦ-ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੈ ।
I do not possess the treasure of the wisdom of the Vedas, nor do I possess the merits of the Praises of the Naam.
ਮੇਰੇ ਗਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਰਾਗ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਚੁਸਤ ਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I do not have a beautiful voice to sing jewelled melodies; I am not clever, wise or shrewd.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ-ਕਮਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Whoever contemplates the Lord's Lotus Feet, and enshrines His Name within the heart,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਲ ਤੱਕ (ਭੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ) ।੩੪।
and sings the Kirtan of His Praises in the Saadh Sangat, O Nanak, shall never see the Messenger of Death. ||34||
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ-ਹਮਦਰਦੀ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ;
They are kind to all beings; they have overpowered the five thieves.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਇਉਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਉਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ,
They take the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise as their food; they remain untouched by Maya, like the lotus in the water.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ (ਲਿਆਂ), ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਚਾਰਿਆਂ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I have come to the Sanctuary of the Lord's Lotus Feet, where I sing the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak is carried across the utterly terrifying, difficult world-ocean. ||51||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ) ਬਚਨ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਬਚਨ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The Words of the Holy are the path of peace. They are obtained by good karma.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
The cycle of birth and death is ended, O Nanak, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||7||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ ।
That palace is beautiful, in which the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who dwell on the Lord of the Universe are liberated. O Nanak, only the most fortunate are so blessed. ||12||
