ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਖ਼ਾਨਦਾਨ (ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੰਮਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਂ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦੀ ਹੈ
Their families are saved; blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
By His Will He grants His Grace; those who are so blessed, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਪਸਰ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ
The three qualities hold people in attachment to Maya. The Gurmukh attains the fourth state of higher consciousness.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
Granting His Grace, God unites us with Himself. The Name of the Lord comes to abide within the mind.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਜੀਵ ਪਿਆ ਆਖੇ, ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ ਅਖਵਾਏ (ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ਪਰ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ
Within your conscious mind, you may say anything, but without the Guru, selfishness is not removed.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੰੂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹ
The Dear Lord is the Giver, the Lover of His devotees. By His Grace, He comes to dwell in the mind.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
By His Grace, He has come into my home; He Himself has come to meet me.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Singing His Praises through the Shabads of the Guru, we are dyed in His Color with intuitive ease.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
By His Grace, the Guru is found, and the Name of the Lord is implanted within.
(ਕਦੇ ਭੀ) ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਉਹ) ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Without the Guru, no one has obtained it; they waste away their lives in vain.
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਦੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ
Those who serve the True Guru are saved; they keep the True One enshrined in their hearts.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
By His Grace, we find the Lord, and reflect on the True Word of the Shabad. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ‑ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ
Forever and ever, they sing the Glorious Praises of the True One; they love the True Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੰੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
When the Lord Himself grants His Grace, He bestows the treasure of devotion. ||1||
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਸਦਾ‑ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ‑ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The tongue imbued with the True Word of the Shabad drinks in the Amrit with delight, singing His Glorious Praises.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਰੰਗ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The Gurmukh obtains this love, when the Lord, in His Will, grants His Grace. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹ
O my True Guru, without You I have no other at all.
ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਾਂ, ਅੰਞਾਣ ਹਾਂ, (ਪਰ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਨ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be Merciful and unite me with the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਵਣਜ ਵਿਚ) ਲਾਭ (ਵਜੋਂ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਫਲੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਈ)
The Profit of the Naam is obtained, and all affairs are brought to fruition.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ
In His Mercy, God unites us with Himself, and He blesses us with the Naam.
ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਆਦਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
His humble devotees are protected and saved; He Himself showers His Blessings upon us.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਭਗਤਾਂ) ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
In this world and in the world hereafter, radiant are the faces of those who cherish and enshrine the Glories of the True Lord.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ !) ਜੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
If we meet the Perfect True Guru, we obtain the Treasure of the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਅਸੀ) ਜਪ ਸਕੀਏ
Please grant Your Grace, God, that we may meditate on Your Ambrosial Naam.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ !) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਧਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
Chant the Lord's Name and contemplate the Lord of the World, twenty-four hours a day.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹ
He preserves our soul, our breath of life, body and wealth. By His Grace, He protects our soul.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ !) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਇਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਸਾਧਨ ਹੈ
The True Capital, and the True Way of Life, comes by chanting His Glories, twenty-four hours a day.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Granting His Grace, God meets us, and we no longer die, or come or go in reincarnation. ||1||
ਇਹ ਸਰਧਾ ਧਾਰਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
In this way, the Dear Husband Lord ravishes and enjoys His bride.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ! ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਸੁਚੱਜੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The happy soul-bride is pleasing to You, Lord; by Your Grace, You adorn her. ||1||Pause||
(ਬੇਸ਼ਕ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ) ਆਖੇ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਅਖਵਾ ਲਏ (ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
Within your own conscious mind, you may say anything, but without the Guru, selfishness and conceit are not eradicated.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Dear Lord is the Lover of His devotees, the Giver of Peace. By His Grace, He abides within the mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ
The Guru has lovingly implanted the Word of His Shabad within me. Without His Grace, it cannot be attained.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ ਭੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਿੰਜੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਹੀ ਛੇਤੀ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Even if the poisonous plant is watered with ambrosial nectar a hundred times, it will still bear poisonous fruit. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ
The Name of the Lord is the Treasure, which has no end or limitation.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਹ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
The Gurmukhs are beauteous; the Creator has blessed them with His Mercy. ||7||
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਤੇ ਜੋਤਸ਼ੀ (ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਪੜ੍ਹ-ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ (ਪਰ ਸਹਜ-ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ), ਛੇ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਭੀ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਹੀ ਪਏ ਰਹੇ (ਉਹ ਭੀ ਸਹਜ-ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਸਕੇ)
The Pandits and the astrologers read and read until they grow weary, while the fanatics are deluded by doubt.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਹਜ-ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Meeting with the Guru, intuitive balance is obtained, when God, in His Will, grants His Grace. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ । ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
The Gurmukhs serve their True Lord and Master, who comes to dwell in the mind.
(ਉਹ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
They are forever attuned to the Love of the True One, who bestows His Mercy and unites them with Himself. ||7||
ਜਿਸ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤ ਸੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
The Supreme Lord showers His Mercy, and we find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
(ਤੇ ਇਹ ਇਕ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ (ਸਤ ਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਣਾ) ਵਧਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ (ਭੀ ਵਧਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
The more time we spend there, the more we come to love the Lord.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
By His Grace, I have shed emotional attachment to Maya.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨੧।
Showering His Mercy, He has blended me into Himself. ||21||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਹੋ ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੋ
Remember the One, O mortal, to whom the child belongs. As Gurmukh, reflect upon Him within your heart.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ! ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ) ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Says Nanak, O mortal, in the first watch of the night, dwell upon the Lord, who shall shower you with His Grace. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ੳੱੁਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Those whom the Lord, in His Mercy, unites with the Guru, reflect upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਭਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
Says Nanak, in the third watch of the night, O mortal, they go, and are united with the Lord. ||3||
ਜੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਞਾਣ ਹੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ? (ਦਰਸਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ)
How can the ignorant soul-bride obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, while she is in this world of her father's home?
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ (ਕਰਨੇ) ਸਿੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ
When the Lord Himself grants His Grace, the Gurmukh learns the duties of her Husband's Celestial Home.
ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਦਾ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ) ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੇ-ਸੁਆਦ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
They drink in the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar, and become eternally stable. They know that the water of corruption is insipid and tasteless.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
When my God, the Lord of the Universe became merciful, I came to look upon the Saadh Sangat as the treasure.
ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ
Contemplating God, their lives are reformed and redeemed; God has showered His Perfect Mercy upon them.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ (ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਫਿਰ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੌੜਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ
Taking them by the hand, the Lord has blessed them with His Praises. They no longer have to wander in reincarnation, and they never have to die.
ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਤੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹ
Through the Kind and Compassionate True Guru, I have met the Lord; I have conquered sexual desire, anger and greed.
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।੧।੩।
Our Indescribable Lord and Master cannot be described. Nanak is devoted, forever a sacrifice to Him. ||5||1||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਮ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਘਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ), ਤੇ ਕੋਈ (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਉੱਤਮ ‘ਨਾਮ’ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ
The Exalted Name of the Lord abides in his mind, and no one can take it away.
(ਪਰ ਨਾਮ-ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ, ਭਾਵ, ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਦਾ ਉੱਦਮ, ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ), ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਜੀਊੜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ (ਹਰੀ ਆਪ) ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਮਿਹਰ ਸਦਕਾ (ਉੱਤਮ ਨਾਮ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
That person, upon whom the Lord bestows His Grace, receives His Mercy.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
By His Mercy, I have met the Holy Saint.
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧੀਰਜ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ)
My mind and body have been cooled and soothed; I have been blessed with patience and composure.
ਹੇ ਇਤਨੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੇਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾਵਾਂ
I shall never forget You-You are such a Great Giver!
ਹੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੇਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ
Please grant Your Grace, and imbue me with the love of devotional worship.
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਰਾ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ (ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।
and all family and friends are saved.
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤਕ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
By Guru's Grace, I meditate on the Inaccessible and Unfathomable True Lord. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
By God's Grace, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
By God's Kindness, I sing the songs of joy.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਇਕ (ਇਹ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !)
With my palms pressed together, I offer this prayer:
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਠੋਰ-ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।
please bless me with Your Mercy, and save this sinking stone.
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣ (ਦਾ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਫ਼ਸਲ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
God has produced everything in great abundance.
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਥੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Granting His Grace, God has satisfied all.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈ ।
if it pleases You, unite me with You.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੨੮।੩੫।
Shower Your Mercy upon me, God; let me be committed to devotional worship. Nanak drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar of Truth. ||4||28||35||
ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ! ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਾਲਕ !
Ocean of Peace, my Guru, Sustainer of the world.
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੋ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ । (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਸਾਡੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖੇ (ਅਸੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੀਏ) ।੪।੩੦।੪੭।
Shower Your Mercy upon Nanak, that he may sing Your Glorious Praises; please, preserve my honor. ||4||30||37||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
We are His, and from Him, we receive our rewards.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ
Showering His Mercy upon us, God has united us with Him.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ।
Take pity on me, O my Lord, Merciful to the meek.
(ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ) ਮੰਗਤਾ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I am a beggar, begging for the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ।
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, my heart is filled with peace.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
By His Grace, His devotees become famous and acclaimed.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He Himself causes His Name to be chanted.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਧੁਰ-ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਸਬਬ ਬਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ-ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪੧।੪੮।
The Boat of the Guru is found by His Grace; O Nanak, such blessed destiny is pre-ordained. ||4||41||48||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ।
I focus my consciousness on the Guru's Feet forever.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
By Guru's Grace, my mind and body are immaculate and pure; I meditate on the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7||
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
but how rare are those few who, by Guru's Grace, obtain His Glance of Grace.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ (ਬੇਅੰਤ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
My God is the Highest of the High; granting His Grace, He merges us into Himself. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Those who are blessed with His Mercy find the Lord.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides in the mind.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ।
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Fearless Lord within their minds.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ-ਰੂਪ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸੰਮੁਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
By Guru's Grace, I meditate on the Fearless Lord; the Shabad has carried me across the poisonous world-ocean. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਵੇਖਿਆ-ਪਰਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ,
Without the True Guru, the Lord cannot be seen.
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸਦਾ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Granting His Grace, He Himself has allowed me to see Him.
ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਕਤ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗੇ ।
when the True One becomes pleasing to my mind.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੂਪ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Serving the True One, true greatness is obtained. By Guru's Grace, the True One is obtained. ||2||
ਪਰ (ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਕੋਈ ਉਹ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
How rare are those Gurmukhs who find it.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Those who drink it in are satisfied forever. Showering His Mercy upon them, the Lord quenches their thirst. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ,
Your Treasures are overflowing with Ambrosial Nectar.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Without serving the True Guru, no one obtains it. It is obtained only by Guru's Grace. ||4||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹੀ) ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ (ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ) ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ।
The Priceless Naam is obtained by Guru's Grace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Without the Shabad, the Naam is not obtained. By Guru's Grace, it is implanted within the mind. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ-ਵੱਖਰ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Rare is that Gurmukh who trades in this.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੨੭।੨੮।
O Nanak, those upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, obtain it. Through His Mercy, it is enshrined in the mind. ||8||27||28||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
Through the Perfect Guru, ego and doubt are dispelled.
(ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
Night and day, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; imbued with the Lord's Love, by Guru's Grace, you shall find Him. ||3||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।
He cannot be obtained by any effort.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
If the Lord grants His Grace, then we come to meet the True Guru. By His Kindness, we are united in His Union. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Only a few, as Gurmukh, understand this.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਉਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੯।੨੯।੩੦।
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are beautiful. Granting His Grace, God unites them with Himself. ||9||29||30||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ, ਉਹ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Serving the True Guru, one becomes acceptable.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੩੧।੩੨।
O Nanak, the Naam dwells deep within the heart; by Guru's Grace, it is obtained. ||8||31||32||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੰਢੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
You pulled me out of the deep, dark well onto the dry ground.
ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Showering Your Mercy, You blessed Your servant with Your Glance of Grace.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਅਸੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਤੈਥੋਂ) ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਾਂ), ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਵੋ ।
By the actions we have committed, we are separated from You. Please show Your Mercy, and unite us with Yourself, Lord.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ (ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਹੁਣ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਥੱਕ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ ।
We have grown weary of wandering to the four corners of the earth and in the ten directions. We have come to Your Sanctuary, God.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਮਾਲਕ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਹੋ ਢੁਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Without God, our Husband, our Lord and Master, all friends and companions are like the Messenger of Death.
(ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।
This is Nanak's prayer: "Please show Your Mercy, and bestow Your Name.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
Those who meet with the Holy Saints are liberated in the Court of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ।
Show Your Mercy to me, O God; I am thirsty for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
(ਸਿਆਲੀ ਰੁੱਤ ਦੀ ਕਰੜੀ ਸਰਦੀ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਬਹਾਰ ਫਿਰਨ ਤੇ ਫੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਕ ਹੋਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਨਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਫੱਗਣ ਵਿਚ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਜਣ-ਹਰੀ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the month of Phalgun, bliss comes to those, unto whom the Lord, the Friend, has been revealed.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Saints, the Lord's helpers, in their mercy, have united me with Him.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਸੁਲੱਖਣੇ ਹਨ (ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਂਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ-ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ) ।
The months, the days, and the moments are auspicious, for those upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ) ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧੪।
Nanak begs for the blessing of Your Vision, O Lord. Please, shower Your Mercy upon me! ||14||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ।
Bestow Your Mercy, God, and save me! No one else can bestow Your Mercy.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਲ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਇਸ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਕੀਰਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੀਏ ?
Without You, Lord, we roll around in the dust. Unto whom should we utter our cries of distress?
ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਰਾਧਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Saints worship and adore Him forever and ever; He is the Forgiver of all.
ਜਿਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੇ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਸਾਜੀ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
He fashioned the soul and the body, and by His Kindness, He bestowed the soul.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I have grasped the Support of the Lord within my mind; I live by chanting and meditating on His Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਰਹਾਂ ।
Grant Your Grace, God, and bless me, that I may merge into the dust of the feet of the humble.
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Uniting in Guru's Union, we are absorbed in His Loving Embrace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਖਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹੇ ।
Granting His Grace, He reveals the Mansion of His Presence, within the home of the self.
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਦਾਤਿ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਏ ? ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ।
Why speak of any other? He alone is the Giver.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
When He grants His Grace, union with the Shabad is obtained.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਜੀਭ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
One whose tongue naturally and intuitively tastes the Lord's sublime essence, by Guru's Grace, is absorbed in the True Lord.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Imbued with Truth, one contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ) ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਨ,
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the nine treasures. It is obtained from the Guru.
ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
By the Lord's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Granting His Grace, He leads us to meet the True Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Remembering the One Name, doubt is cast out from within.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਧਰਮ-ਚਰਚਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਮਾਧੀ ਹੈ ।
Spiritual wisdom and meditation come to those unto whom the Word of the Guru's Shabad is sweet.
ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਰਸ) ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
By Guru's Grace, a few have tasted, and seen it. ||2||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਪੈਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਹੈ
O Lord, grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; I place my hopes in You, Lord.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Shower me with Your Mercy, and fulfill my longing. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਮੈਂ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ,
O my Lord, I am a sinner; I have come to Your Sanctuary, and fallen at Your Door, Lord.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਏਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
My intellect is worthless; I am filthy and polluted. Please shower me with Your Mercy sometime. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ! ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਮੇਰੇ ਇਹ ਨੀਚ ਕੰਮ ਹਨ ।
O my Lord, these are my lowly actions, O my Lord.
ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈਂ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਉਗਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O Lord, Har, Har, Treasure of Virtue, Merciful Lord: please bless me with Your Grace and forgive me for all my mistakes. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
Granting His Grace, the Lord has led me to meet my Perfect True Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ) ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
The desire of His humble servant has been fulfilled. I have received the dust of the Feet of the True Guru. ||2||
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ ! ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
O Lord, You Yourself are Your Own Master, O God. There is no other Giver as Great as You.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਪਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੨।੧੬।੫੪।
Servant Nanak lives by the Naam, the Name of the Lord; by the Lord's Mercy, he chants the Lord's Name. ||4||2||16||54||
(ਪਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ) ਨਾਹ (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ) ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਕੋਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ-ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂਗੇ । ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਟਿਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
I know nothing, and I do not know the future; as the Lord keeps me, so do I stand.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੀ ਫਬਦੀ ਹੈ । ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੋ ਤੇ ਆਖੋ—) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ! ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਚੱੁਕਾਂ (ਅਣਡਿੱਠ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੋ, ਅਸੀਂ (ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਕੂਕਰ ਅਖਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।੪।੭।੨੧।੫੯।
For my failings and mistakes, O Guru, grant me Your Grace; servant Nanak is Your obedient dog. ||4||7||21||59||
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਕੋਈ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ।
People try all sorts of things, but without the Lord's Mercy, His Name is not obtained.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਦਾਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੨।੨੬।੬੪।
The Lord has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; through the wisdom of the Guru's Teachings, he has enshrined the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||12||26||64||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸ ।
Dwell, O my Beloved, dwell, O my Lord of the Universe; O Lord, show mercy to me and come to dwell within my mind.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਸੋਹਾਗਣ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
I have obtained the fruits of my mind's desires, O my Lord of the Universe; I am transfixed with ecstasy, gazing upon the Perfect Guru.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ! ਜਿਸ ਸੋਹਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਚਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The happy soul-brides receive the Lord's Name, O my Lord of the Universe; night and day, their minds are blissful and happy.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਿੱਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।੩।
By great good fortune, the Lord is found, O my Lord of the Universe; earning profit continually, the mind laughs with joy. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਦੱਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਆ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ?
Of what use are other efforts?
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਉ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Showing His Mercy, the Lord Himself protects our honor. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਇਹ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਵਾਈ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
He alone receives the panacea, the medicine of the Naam,
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
unto whom the Lord, in His Grace, bestows it.
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੁਖ ਭਾਲਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ
In their kindness, the Saints have told me of the True One,
ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
and so I have obtained all comforts and joy.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੈ ।
One who obtains the wealth of the Lord becomes happy.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠਣਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਨਸੀਬ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧। ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ।
By God's Grace, I have joined the Saadh Sangat. ||1||Second Pause||12||81||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ) ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By Your Grace, we find the Way.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
By God's Grace, we meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਲ ਟੱੁਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By God's Grace, we are released from our bondage.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
By Your Grace, egotism is eradicated. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਾਹ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ-ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ
When the Great Merchant shows His Mercy, He blends us into Himself.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹਾਮੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।੪।੧੬।੮੫।
Says Nanak, place your faith in the Guru. ||4||16||85||
ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ,
O Supreme Lord God, please shower Your Mercy upon me.
ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੪।੧੭।੮੬।
Bless Nanak with the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||4||17||86||
ਹੇ ਧਨੁਖ-ਧਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ।
Have Mercy upon me, O Lord, Sustainer of the world.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਦੇਹ, ਏਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਨ ।
The dust of the feet of the Saints is all the treasure I need.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਡਾਕੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਓਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone is awake, unto whom God shows His Mercy.
ਉਸਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਚੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ।੨੦।੮੯।
This investment, wealth and property shall remain intact. ||1||Second Pause||20||89||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ
Meditating on the Merciful Lord, the Treasure of Mercy, I have obtained a seat in the Saadh Sangat.
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਤੀ,
I am worthless, but God has been kind to me.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
He alone is the Giver of peace, who inspires us to chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
By His Grace, He leads us to merge with Him. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ,
Show Mercy to me, O God, O Searcher of hearts.
ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਹੇ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਸੁਆਮੀ !
The Unseen Lord and Master is the Treasure of Peace.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
I have recognized the One who created me.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ,
Showing His Mercy, God has blended me with Himself.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ । ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਗਾਏ ਹੋਏ) ਗੁਣ (ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਪੂਜਾ, ਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ (ਜੋੜੀ ਹੋਈ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ (ਸਫਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ)
Virtue, worship, spiritual wisdom, meditation and all service, O Nanak,
ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
are obtained from the True Guru, when, in His Mercy and Kindness, He meets us. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੇ-ਮੁਥਾਜ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ)
My Friend is Carefree.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਸੀ । ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ) ।੨।
By Guru's Grace, I give my love to Him. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Through devotion to the Lord, one's life is approved.
(ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
By Guru's Grace, one chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
By the greatness of the Naam, His humble servants are blessed with glory.
ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Lord Himself bestows it, in His Mercy. ||1||Pause||
(ਪਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹ
Those, upon whom the Lord Himself showers His Mercy,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with their tongues. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ
Meeting with the Merciful Guru, I am in ecstasy.
ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Showering His Mercy, He has cut away the noose of the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ
When the Perfect Guru granted His Grace,
ਘਾਲ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਲਾ ਕਰਨੋਂ ਹਟ ਗਏ) ।੪।੫੪।੧੨੩।
says Nanak, I was totally, completely fulfilled. ||4||54||123||
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੌਖੇ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
By God's Grace, we have become comfortable.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Separated from Him for countless incarnations, we are now reunited with Him. ||1||Pause||
(ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ
O God, grant Your Grace, and give me this gift.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬੫।੧੩੪।
Please, let Nanak chant Your Name, day and night. ||4||65||134||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼
Please grant Your Grace, God, and bestow this gift
ਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਭ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬੬।੧੩੫।
upon Nanak, that he may meditate on the treasure of the Naam. ||4||66||135||
(ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਤੇ
Grant Your Grace, God, and hear my prayer:
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਦੇਹ ।੪।੬੭।੧੩੬।
please bless Nanak with the dust of the feet of Your slave. ||4||67||136||
ਹੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ! ਹੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ !
O Supreme Lord God, O Perfect Divine Guru,
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
show mercy to me, and commit me to Your service. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ
Granting His Grace, God has released me from bondage.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
He has given me the Support of His Lotus Feet. ||3||
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !
Grant Your Grace, O God, O Merciful to the meek.
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੪।੭੫।੧੪੪।
Please bless Nanak with the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||75||144||
(ਪਰ ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord bestowed His Mercy, and led me to meet the Guru.
। (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਬਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਬਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
By His power, no disease afflicts me. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਹੋਏ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਬਣ ਗਏ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਪਾਂ ਦੀ, ਸਾਰੇ ਤਪਾਂ ਦੀ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ।੩।
Meditation, self-discipline, self-control and perfect greatness were obtained when the Merciful Lord, the Guru, became my Help and Support. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਵੇਖ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਭਰਮ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ,
The Guru has dispelled pride, emotional attachment and superstition.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜੇ) ਡਾਕੂ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ (ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਉਤੇ ਡਾਕਾ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Twenty-four hours a day, the highway robbers are my companions.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।
Granting His Grace, God has driven them away. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਇਸ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਦਲੀਲ ਨਹੀ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦੀ (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਡਾਕੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਸਕੇ ।
By clever devices, nothing is accomplished.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣ (ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਸਕਣ) ।੪।੮੩।੧੫੨।
Grant Your Grace to Nanak, that he may sing the Glories of God. ||4||83||152||
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Says Nanak, when God showers His Mercy,
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਠੱਗੀ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ।੪।੧੦੭।
even his heart becomes pure, and he contemplates God. ||4||107||
ਉਸ ਅਥਾਹ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and contemplating the Naam within our hearts,
(ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ (ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਸਕਾਂ) ।੪।੧੧੧।
O Nanak, God has showered His Mercy upon us. ||4||111||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Lord has granted His Grace, and saved His humble servant.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ (ਪਹਿਲੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ (ਕੀਤੇ) ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
The sinful mistakes of so many incarnations have been washed away. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਤੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ।
Show Your Mercy, and lead me to meet You, O my Darling Beloved.
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ।
Hear my prayer, O Lofty and Infinite God;
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ,
Bestow Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe, O God, My Beloved, Master of the meek - please, listen to my prayer.
ਮੇਰਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਲੈ (ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਖੂਹੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ) ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਉਜੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ) ।੨।੩।੧੨੦।
Take my hand, O Lord and Master of Nanak; my body and soul all belong to You. ||2||3||120||
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
In their Mercy, the Saints have met me, and from them, I have obtained satisfaction.
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਬਿਖਾਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਡਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Saints have given me the Mantra of the Fearless Lord, and now I practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ! ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਦਇਅਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ।
Please hear my prayer, O Lord of Life, O Beloved, Ocean of mercy and compassion.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਨਾਥ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।੩।
Save me, O my Father God. I am an orphan - please, cherish me! ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
You reveal the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, for the sake of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਇਹ ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਧੂੜ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੪।੯।੧੩੦।
Grant Your Grace, and bless us with the dust of the feet of the Saints; Nanak yearns for this peace. ||4||9||130||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If I fall at their Feet, then I live; associating with those humble beings, I remain happy.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹੁ (ਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।੩।
O God, please be merciful to me, that my mind might become the dust of the feet of Your devotees. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਉੱਚੇ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ
You are All-powerful and Infinite, the most lofty and exalted, the Giver of peace; O God, You are the Support of the breath of life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਦੇਈ ਰੱਖ ।੪।੧੩।੧੩੪।
Please show mercy to Nanak, O God, that he may remain in the Society of the Saints. ||4||13||134||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ (ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹਨ । ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ?—ਇਹ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
Your Feet are the boat to carry us across the world-ocean; You alone know Your ways.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Those whom You keep protected, by Your Kindness, cross over to the other side. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ)—ਹੇ (ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਦੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ, ਕਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ, ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।
My mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, O Giver to the unworthy.
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੪।੧।੧੩੮।
Please grant Your Grace, and bless me with Your Name; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||4||1||138||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਵੈਰੀ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਏ ਹਨ,
I have conquered the five tyrants.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦੀ) ਫ਼ੌਜ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੨।
By Guru's Grace, I have vanquished the army of evil. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
When God the Merciful shows His Mercy,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪।੧੪੨।
Nanak receives the Naam in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||4||4||142||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
Here and hereafter, You are my Savior and Protector.
(ਪਰ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹ ਭੇਤ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
By Guru's Grace, some understand You. ||3||
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਣ) ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹੈਂ ।
The One who is All-powerful to empty out and fill up - you have no love for His Lotus Feet.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।੨।੧੦।੧੪੮।
O Nanak, I have been saved, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. I have been blessed by the Treasure of Mercy. ||2||10||148||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਮਿੱਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ
Wandering, wandering all around, I have grown weary; trying all sorts of things, I have been searching.
(ਤਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ (ਹੁਣ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਮਨ ਰੁਕ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।੧੨।੧੫੦।
Says Nanak, He has shown mercy to me; I have found the treasure of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||12||150||
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Hearing His Praises, millions of sins are erased. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਤਰਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।੧੩।੧੫੧।
O God, Treasure of Mercy, please bless Nanak with Your kindness, that he may repeat the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||13||151||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਛੋਹ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੀ ਘੁੰਮਣ-ਘੇਰੀ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those, unto whom the Lord shows His Mercy, remain dead while yet alive. In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, they cross over the ocean of Maya.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਗਿਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।੧੫੪।
O Nanak, those humble beings are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||4||1||154||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
In His Mercy, He attuned my consciousness to the Lord.
ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
The True Guru has led me to understand the One Lord. ||5||
ਹੇ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਖਹਿ ਖਹਿ ਤੋਂ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਬਚਾ ।
Show Your Mercy, and save me, O Savior Lord!
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਪਸ਼ੂ (-ਸੁਭਾਵ) ਬਣ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਭੂਤਨੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੬।
Without understanding, people become beasts and demons. ||6||
ਪਰ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
God, the Lord of all, is the Destroyer of pride.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ (ਹਰਣਾਖਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਤੋੜਿਆ) ।੪।
He bestowed His Mercy, and saved Prahlaad. ||4||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਦੇ) ਹਨ,
Those who worship the Lord and love the Lord
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੩।
- showering His Mercy, God protects them. ||3||
(ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸਭ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He Himself is All-pervading; He Himself misleads the people.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ।੯।੨।੧੮।
By Guru's Grace, one comes to understand, that God is contained in all. ||9||2||18||
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।
I serve You, and through You, I obtain honor.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
God showers His Mercy, and I sing His Praises.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ) ਚਾਨਣ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ।੫।
The light of the jewel of the Naam permeates the entire world. ||5||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਦੋਂ (ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ) ਡਰ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮੇ ਦੀ) ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
My Immaculate God is pervading and contained among all.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
By Guru's Grace, one is united in His Union. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My Lord God is found in this way.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
By the Grace of the Lord, one comes to sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
When, by His Grace, the True Guru is met,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹ
the lamp is lit within the temple of the mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Says Nanak, when the Lord showers His Mercy,
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੪।
the imperishable home is obtained; in the Saadh Sangat, you shall be saved. ||8||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ
Show mercy unto me, that I may sing Your Glorious Praises.
ਤੇ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੪।੫।
O Nanak, chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I obtain peace. ||4||5||
