(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਸੰਜੋਗ-ਸੱਤਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਿਜੋਗ-ਸੱਤਿਆ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Some attain union with the Lord, while others depart in separation.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ) ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
Whatever pleases Him comes to pass; nothing else can be done. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪੱੁਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਜਪ ਕਰਾਂ
Whom shall I serve? What shall I chant? I will go and ask the Guru.
(ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਾਂ
I will accept the Will of the True Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within.
ਪਰ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ) । (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜ ਕੇ) ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ‑ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹ
Without the good fortune of destiny, the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is not obtained. The unfortunate ones just sit and cry.
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ ?) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਧੁਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
All things happen according to the Will of the Lord God. No one can erase the pre-ordained Writ of Destiny. ||3||
(ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜੇ ਇਹ ਬੜੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਭੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੇ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਤਾਂਘ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ
Even if you chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, with great longing, your past actions are still not erased.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਗਤ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
The Lord's devotees surrender to His Will; those devotees are accepted at His Door. ||3||
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ
Those humble beings who are in love with the True Guru are pure and true.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੫।
They act in harmony with the Will of the True Guru; they shed the poison of ego and corruption. ||5||
ਸੱਤ ਦੀਪ, ਸੱਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਨੌ ਖੰਡ, ਚਾਰ ਵੇਦ, ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣ
The seven islands, seven seas, nine continents, four Vedas and eighteen Puraanas
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ
-O Lord, You pervade and permeate all. Lord, everyone loves you.
ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਨਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ
So worship the Lord, the Light of the soul; without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ (ਮੰਨਣਾ)—ਇਹੀ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ (ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ
Meditation, penance and austere self-discipline are found by surrendering to the True Guru's Will. By His Grace this is received.
(ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨਾਲ) ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ
No one is foolish, and no one is clever.
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਸਭ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
Your Will determines everything;
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ,
You have created all beings and creatures.
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਈ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਉਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ) ਲਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।
As it pleases You, You assign tasks to one and all.
(ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਛੱਡੋ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਸਿੱਖੋ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
Whatever pleases Him shall come to pass.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੋ) ।੧।
There is no other Doer except Him. ||1||
ਦੁੱਖ ਮੰਨਣ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਨਾਣ ਵਿਚ (ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਡਰ-ਸਹਮ ਦਾ) ਆਉਣਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In pleasure and in pain, the world is coming and going in reincarnation.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਟਿਕਵਾਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।
Those who are pleasing to God, find peace. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵਾਪਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Whatever happens, is all according to Your Will.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
One who understands the Hukam of the Lord's Command, is absorbed in the True Lord. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਤੀਖਣ ਬੁੱਧਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ,
They alone are handsome, clever and wise,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
who surrender to the Will of God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਬੀਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਜੀਵ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ ਕੁਝ) ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।
That which pleases His Will has come to pass; no one else can do anything.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੨।
By Your Will, enticed by the illusion of emotional attachment, the people are asleep; they do not wake up. ||2||
ਜਿਥੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਓਥੇ ਓਥੇ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Wherever He wills, there He keeps us.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ।੫।
O Nanak, everything is in the Hands of God. ||5||
(ਫੇਰ) ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਸਿਦਕ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਅੱਗੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਚੌਣੀ ਰੰਗਣ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Those who surrender to the True Guru's Will are imbued with the four-fold Love of the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮਨ (ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ) ਭਿੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ'—ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਰਸਤਾ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਤਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੨੫।
This is the unique and distinct life-style of the Gurmukhs: listening to the Guru's Teachings, their minds blossom forth. ||25||
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭਲਾ ਹੈ
Whatever pleases You is good; True is the Pleasure of Your Will.
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ,
You are the One, pervading in all; You are contained in all.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ।
As many living beings are there are, they are all Yours. Without selfless service, no one obtains any reward.
(ਜੋ ਭੀ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਣਾ—ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਘਾਬਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿੰਦ ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।੪।
Pain and pleasure come by Your Will; without the Name, the soul does not even exist. ||4||
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
By Your Will, everything come to pass.
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਅਟੱਲ ਸਚਾਈ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਿਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
One who acts in stubborn-mindedness is ruined in the end. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who surrenders to the Lord's Will is peaceful forever.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੦।੪੯।
O Nanak, he is absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||10||49||
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ
The slanderer shall never attain emancipation; this is the Will of the Lord and Master.
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਕਾਈਆਂ ਨਸ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੩।
The more the Saints are slandered, the more they dwell in peace. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੂਰਖ-ਪੁਣਾ ਤੇ ਅਮੋੜ-ਪਨ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
The stubborn foolishness of my mind is gone;
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੂਰਖਪੁਣੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਅੜਦੇ ਸਨ) ।੨।
God's Will has become sweet to me. ||2||
(ਇਸ ਖ਼ਤਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਬਚੇਂਗਾ, ਜੇ) ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ । (ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ ।
Make yourself follow the Sweet Will of the True Guru; remain attached to His Sweet Will.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੇਂਗਾ ।੭।
Thus says Nanak: renounce your ego and self-conceit, and obtain peace; let your mind abide in humility. ||7||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ (ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨੇਕ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ),
The Lord's humble servant is called the most exalted Saint; he obeys the Command of the Lord's Order, and obtains peace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਠੀਕ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Whatever is pleasing to the Lord, he accepts as True; he enshrines the Lord's Will within his mind. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ?
O Nanak, what service can the servant perform for such a True Guru? He should offer his life, his very soul, to the Guru.
(ਬੱਸ, ਇਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਾਣਾ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੌਖੀ ਖੇਡ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੪।੧।੩।
If he focuses his consciousness on the Will of the True Guru, then the True Guru Himself will bless him. ||4||1||3||
(ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਵਪਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਨਫ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He is seated on the Lord's throne, and he dwells continually in the home of his own being.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧੬।
He alone surrenders to the Lord's Will, who meets the Guru. ||16||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਗੁਣ-ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
Shower Your Mercy upon me, O Guru, O Perfect Supreme Lord God, that I might chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, night and day.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਰਹੇ ।
I speak the Ambrosial Words of the Guru's Bani, praising the Lord. Your Will is sweet to me, Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ (ਮੰਨਣਾ) ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੋ ਤੇ ਸਚਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਰੂਪ) ਰਹਿਣੀ (ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੋ)
Enshrine the Will of the True Guru in your consciousness, and make the True Lord's Love your self-discipline.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਦਾਰੂ) ਏਥੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਖੀ ਰਖੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਲੀਆਂ ਮਾਣੋਗੇ ।੨।
O Nanak, you shall be kept in peace here, and hereafter, you shall celebrate with the Lord. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Your Name is True, and ever pleasing to my mind.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My pains are dispelled, and I am permeated with peace.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਐਸੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ ਜੋ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ (ਉਹ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਕਿ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਥੋਂ) ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ।
Some fools and idiots never think of the Lord; whoever has come, shall have to go.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Your Name is True, and ever pleasing to my mind. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ-ਆਸਰਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
One who is pleasing to God receives true honor. The Lord God blesses him with wealth.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to such a humble being. O Lord, You bless all with Your bountiful blessings. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
When it pleases You, then I am satisfied and satiated.
ਜੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My mind is soothed and calmed, and all my thirst is quenched.
ਆਓ, ਅਸੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈਏ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕੀਏ (ਜਿਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਸਭ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ) । ਅਸਾਂ ਭੀ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਉਸ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ
Let us remember the Lord and Master in contemplation, and keep a watchful eye on the Path. We shall have to go there as well.
(ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਰੋਣਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਪਸ ਲੈ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
He who has created, also destroys; whatever happens is by His Will.
ਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਸੱਜਣ! (ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ) ਕੋਈ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ।
O intimate friend, my Husband Lord does whatever He pleases; He is not dependent on anyone.
ਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਸੱਜਣ! ਤੂੰ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੱਸ ਪਾ ।
O intimate friend, you have enjoyed your Beloved; please, tell me about Him.
ਹੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਗਾਉਣੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਣ (ਗਾਉਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਿੱਖੇ ਹਨ ।
The Glorious Praises of the Lord are pleasing to the Lord; I have obtained them from the Guru.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those who surrender to, and obey the Guru's Will. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
He alone obeys Your Will, O Lord, unto whom You are Merciful.
ਅਸਲ ਭਗਤੀ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ।੧।
That alone is devotional worship, which is pleasing to Your Will. You are the Cherisher of all beings. ||1||
(ਪਰ ਉਂਞ) ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ (ਆਦਿਕ ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਇਸ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the Lord's Will, they practice meditation, austerity and self-discipline; in the Lord's Will, they are released.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the Lord's Will, they are made to wander in reincarnation; in the Lord's Will, they are forgiven.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who surrenders to Your Will, meets with You, Lord.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who is pleased with Your Will is immersed in You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਭੇਜਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਾਂ (ਇਹ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
When You sent me, I came into the world.
ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Whatever is pleasing to Your Will, I do.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ।
By the Pleasure of His Will, the Lord inspires us to obey the Hukam of His Command; by the Pleasure of His Will, we find peace.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ‘ਨਾਮ’ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
By the Pleasure of His Will, He leads us to meet the True Guru; by the Pleasure of His Will, we meditate on the Truth.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਸੁੱਕੇ ਕਾਠ ਹਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
When it pleases Him, even dry wood becomes green.
ਥਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
When it pleases Him, rivers flow across the desert sands.
(ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ) ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਗਿਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
The object belongs to Him; He shall take it away; with whom should one be angry.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਭੀ) ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who becomes Gurmukh accepts God's Will; he intuitively drinks in the Lord's sublime essence.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੋ, ਤੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ ।੨।
O Nanak, praise the Giver of peace forever; with your tongue, savor the Lord. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਸਲੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਚਲਾਕੀ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
O Nanak, he alone is called a selfless servant, who cuts off his head, and offers it to the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He accepts the Will of the True Guru, and enshrines the Shabad within his heart. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who serve their True Guru, who contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ) ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
who honor and obey the Will of the True Guru, who keep the Lord's Name enshrined within their hearts,
