(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗੀ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਭੇਖ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ) ਸੰਤ ਅਖਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Those whose hearts are filled with hypocrisy, who are called saints only for their outward show
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ; ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਮਲਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
- their desires are never satisfied, and they depart grieving in the end. ||2||
ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਠੱਗੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਮਾਲ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
Practicing great hypocrisy, he acquires the wealth of others.
ਤੇ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ
Returning home, he squanders it on his wife and children. ||1||
ਸਾਕਤ ਸਦਾ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਿਚ, ਠੱਗੀ (ਕਰਨ) ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
You are fond of falsehood, fraud and egotism.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਉਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਠੂੰਹਾਂ ਡੰਗ ਮਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
If you hear the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you feel like you have been stung by a scorpion. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ (ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਖੰਡੀ) ਬਗੁਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੰਸ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The crane is again transformed into a swan, if You so will, O Merciful Lord.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਹੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ (ਤੇ ਬਗੁਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੰਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼) ।੪।੧।੯।
