ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ (ਦੀ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਬਿਰਤੀ) ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸੱਥ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਬਿਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ) ਮਨ (ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਭ-ਬਿਰਤੀ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
He fights with his mind, he settles with his mind, and he is at peace with his mind.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਾ ਲੀਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮਨ ਜੋ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
All obtain the desires of their minds, through the Love of the True Word of the Shabad.
(ਭੋਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ (ਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
From sinful pleasures come sorrow, separation, birth and death.
ਮੂਰਖ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਲੰਮਾ ਝੰਬੇਲਾ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The fools try to account for their misdeeds, and argue uselessly.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੂਲ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੱਬ, ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ,
The self-willed manmukhs forget the Primal Lord, the Source of all; they are caught in greed and egotism.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਸੰਬੰਧੀ) ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ।
They pass their nights and days in conflict and struggle; they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹ ਅੱਖਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਪਦੇਸ਼) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਏ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ
Do not call anyone bad; read these words, and understand.
ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਝਗੜਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ।੧੯।
Don't argue with fools. ||19||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦਿਨ (ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਆਦਿਕ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ) ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ।
Their nights and days pass in argument, and they do not reflect upon the Word of the Shabad.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੋਸ਼ ਤੇ ਅਕਲ ਖੋਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਿਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ
The Creator has taken away their subtle intellect, and all their speech is corrupt.
(ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਦਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Do not speak ill of others, or get involved in arguments.
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੈੜਾ ਆਖ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਝਗੜਾ ਖੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ (ਭੈੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਭੈੜਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ । ਭੈੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਹੈ ।
Do not get into arguments with the Lord, or you shall ruin yourself.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਇਕ ਛਲ ਹੈ, (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਛਲ ਹੀ (ਸਾਬਤ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Attachment to Maya is totally false, and false are those who go that way.
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਫਸਾ ਕੇ) ‘ਹਉਮੈ’ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ (ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਜਗਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
Through egotism, the world is caught in conflict and strife, and it dies.
(ਮੂਰਖ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ (ਭੁੱਖ-ਮਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਮਰਨੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Your idol does not feed the hungry, or save the dying.
(ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ-ਪੂਜਕ) ਅਗਿਆਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਲੰਮਾ ਗੇੜ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਲੋਕ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮੀਟ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੂਰਤੀ-ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ) ।੧।
The blind assembly argues in blindness. ||1||
ਨਿੱਤ ਨਿੱਤ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਭੋਗਣ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਭੋਗਣ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਲੰਮਾ ਚਸਕਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
It is useless to worry and struggle to death.
ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਇਥੋਂ ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤੇ ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਬੱਧੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਟੱਕਰਾਂ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Entangled in worries and struggles, people exhaust themselves. ||1||
