(ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
They alone are truly alive, whose minds are filled with the Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਬੰਦਗੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
O Nanak, no one else is truly alive;
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਡੇ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
When this mind is filled with pride,
ਤਦੋਂ (ਉਸ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਝੱਲਾ (ਹੋਇਆ) ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਭ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਖਰਾ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
then it wanders around like a madman and a lunatic.
ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਜੀਵ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
MAMMA: The beggar is so ignorant
(ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ) ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ (ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਦੇਈ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
- the great Giver continues to give. He is all-knowing.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੋ, (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰੋ (ਸੋਧੇ, ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਹ ਕੀਹ ਦੋਸ ਹੈ) ।
Do not be angry with anyone else; look within your own self instead.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਧੀਰੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਇਂਗਾ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਪੈ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ।੧।
Be humble in this world, O Nanak, and by His Grace you shall be carried across. ||1||
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਗਏ ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਤੱਕਦੀ ਨਾਰ ਬਿਰਹੋਂ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ,
Says Kabeer, to obtain the status of eternal life, worship the Lord with devotion.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧।੧੪।੬੫।
The Name of the Lord is my only Support; with my tongue, I chant the Lord's Name. ||2||1||14||65||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ) ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Make the effort, and you shall live; practicing it, you shall enjoy peace.
(ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ; ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Meditating, you shall meet God, O Nanak, and your anxiety shall vanish. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦ ਤਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨੀ-ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ, ਤੇ ਇਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠ ਰਹਿਣਾ)
As long as we are in this world, O Nanak, we should listen, and speak of the Lord.
ਅਸੀ ਢੂੰਡ ਚੁਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਇਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਜੀਵਨ-ਅਵਸਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰੀਏ ।੫
I have searched, but I have found no way to remain here; so, remain dead while yet alive. ||5||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈਂ
Don't blame anyone else; meditate on your God.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Serving Him, great peace is obtained; O mind, sing His Praises. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Evil thoughts are erased, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
