ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਮਰਥਾ (ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ)।
No power to live, no power to die.
ਇਸ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਮਾਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲਦਾ (ਜਿਸ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਮਾਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਾਡੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਫੂੰ-ਫਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
No power to rule, with wealth and occult mental powers.
ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੇ ।
how will they find the gate of salvation?
ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।
They die and die, over and over again, only to be reborn, over and over again. They are struck down at Death's Door. ||4||
ਰੇਤ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਰੇਤ ਦੇ ਕਿਣਕਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਮਰ ਛਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ),
He lives in a castle of sand.
(ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
He enjoys the games of pleasure and the tastes of Maya.
ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰੂਪ (ਇਸੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ) ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ।
Abandoning the world of beauty, and beautiful clothes, one must depart.
(ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ) ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਚੰਗੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਆਪ ਭੋਗਣਾ ਹੈ ।
He obtains the rewards of his good and bad deeds.
(ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਹੇ ਕਮਲੇ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭੀ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਾ ।
O mad-man, no one will keep you, for even a moment.
ਸੋ, ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ, ਉਹੀ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਭਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Meditate on the Name of that Lord. ||1||Pause||
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਇਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਹਾਸੋ-ਹੀਣਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ);
How does the puppet of clay dance?
(ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਚਾਰ-ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਢੂੰਢਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਨੀਆਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ), (ਮਾਇਆ ਕਮਾਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ) ਦੌੜਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He looks and listens, hears and speaks, and runs around. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਅਸੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਇਕ ਦਮ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਾਂ (ਕੀਹ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦਮ ਕਦੋਂ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਏ? ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਮਿਆਦ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਵਕਤ ਕਦੋਂ ਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਹ
We are human beings of the briefest moment; we do not know the appointed time of our departure.
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।੧।
Prays Nanak, serve the One, to whom our soul and breath of life belong. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਜਨਮ-ਮਨੋਰਥ) ।
The mortal came to hear and chant the Word of the Guru's Bani.
ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
But he has forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and he has become attached to other temptations. His life is totally worthless! ||1||Pause||
