ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ
Nanak offers this one prayer:
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
this body and soul are totally Yours. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੜਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਮਾਣ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
O God, none return from You empty-handed; at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are praised and acclaimed.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ ।੪।੧।੬੫।
In the terrifying world-ocean of poison, people are drowning-please lift them up and save them! This is servant Nanak's humble prayer. ||4||1||65||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮੈਂ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼
Grant me their company, God-I am a beggar; this is my prayer.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਗੁਰੂੁ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੱੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਚਾਨਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੩੩।੩੧।੬।੭੦।
O Nanak, great is the good fortune of those Gurmukhs, who are filled with the Light of the Naam within. ||4||33||31||6||70||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ (ਆਚਰਨ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become absolutely pure, and the noose of death shall be cut away.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ-ਸਹਮ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹ
So offer your prayers to Him, the Giver of Peace, the Destroyer of fear.
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਿਹਰ (ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
Showing His Mercy, the Merciful Master shall resolve your affairs. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ !) ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ (ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
Offer your prayers to Him, who shall unite you with the Creator.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਮ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦਾ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਅਮੁੱਕ ਹੈ
The True Guru is the Giver of the Naam; His Treasure is perfect and overflowing.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਵਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਂਭੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ)
She is decorated with the Word of the Guru's Shabad; her mind and body belong to her Husband Lord.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੀ) ਤੱਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈਆਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ
With her palms pressed together, she stands, waiting on Him, and offers her True prayers to Him.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹ ੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ
In the Court of the True One, you shall sit in truthful devotion and prayer.
ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖਾ (ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
Your account shall be settled with honor, in the Radiant Light of the Name of the Lord. ||7||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, (ਗੁਰੂ) ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Offer your most sincere prayers to the True Guru, so that He may unite you with your Best Friend.
ਜੇ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਤਾਂ (ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝੋ ਕਿ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ)
Meeting your Best Friend, you shall find peace; the Messenger of Death shall take poison and die.
ਤੂੰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
Please hear my prayer, O Dear Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਖ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਛਡਾਇਆ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਛਡਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।੧੨।
I have thoroughly tested and seen all-You alone, by Your Pleasure, can save us. ||12||
ਹੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ! ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਪੁੱਠਾ ਲਟਕ ਕੇ ਤਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ।
Upside-down, within the womb, you performed penance, O my merchant friend, and you prayed to your Lord and Master.
(ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ) ਪੁੱਠਾ (ਲਟਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ
You uttered prayers to your Lord and Master, while upside-down, and you meditated on Him with deep love and affection.
ਉਹ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
The true ones practice Truth; greatness rests in the Great Lord.
ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ (ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Body, soul and all things belong to the Lord-praise Him, and offer your prayers to Him.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ !) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ (ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ) ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ (ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ) ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਰਾਜ਼ਕ ਹੈਂ)
All are Yours, and You belong to all. You are the wealth of all.
ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਜੋਦੜੀਆਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ
Everyone begs from You, and all offer prayers to You each day.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਤੋੜ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸਦੀ (ਪੂਰਨਤਾ ਲਈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੋਲ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ
Whatever work you wish to accomplish-tell it to the Lord.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
He will resolve your affairs; the True Guru gives His Guarantee of Truth.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ—ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਪਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
Without You, God, there is no other at all. This is Nanak's humble prayer.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਤਪਦਾ) ਹਾੜ (ਭੀ) ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਭੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ) ।੫।
The month of Aasaarh is pleasant, when the Feet of the Lord abide in the mind. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਧਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਮਹਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
In the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, she has made her home; she is adorned with the Word of His Shabad.
ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ (ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦੀਆਂ, ਸਦਾ-ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ‘ਪਿਆਰ’ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ),
She is humble, and she offers her true and sincere prayer.
(ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਕ) ਅੱਪੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ (ਬੈਠੀਆਂ) ਸੋਭਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
She is beautiful in the Company of her Lord and Master; she walks in the Way of His Will.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸਖੀ-ਭਾਵਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
With her dear friends, she offers her heart-felt prayers to her Beloved.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਚੰਬੋੜ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਫਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He Himself annihilates, and He Himself restores.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ (ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੧।੮੦।
Nanak offers this prayer to God. ||4||11||80||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ ।
The treasure of all excellence is with You.
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ।੩।
Your servant prays to You, O Lord and Master. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—(ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ) ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ
Says Nanak, the Lord has heard my prayer;
ਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ) ।੪।੨੧।੯੦।
by the Grace of the Saints, I dwell in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||21||90||
(ਜੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ (ਇਹ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I offer this prayer to the True Guru:
ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲੇ (ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੬੪।੧੩੩।
O Nanak, may I be blessed with the treasure of the True Name. ||4||64||133||
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ,
Bestow Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe, O God, My Beloved, Master of the meek - please, listen to my prayer.
ਮੇਰਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਲੈ (ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਖੂਹੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ) ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਉਜੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ) ।੨।੩।੧੨੦।
Take my hand, O Lord and Master of Nanak; my body and soul all belong to You. ||2||3||120||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
Wherever I look, there You are; I am totally convinced of this.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਾਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਾਂ? ।੧।
Unto whom should I pray? The Lord Himself hears all. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਹੈਂ (ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅਰਜ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
You are our Lord and Master; to You, I offer this prayer.
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ) ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ ਹੈ ।
This body and soul are all Your property.
ਕੋਈ ਮੰਗਤਾ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਹਲ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ) ਸੁਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If a beggar cries out at the door, the Master hears it in His Mansion.
(ਫਿਰ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਧੱਕਾ ਦੇ ਦੇਵੇ (ਮੰਗਤੇ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਸੁਣ ਲੈਣ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Whether He receives him or pushes him away, it is the Gift of the Lord's Greatness. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਵੀ ਕਿਸ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਕਰੀਏ? (ਆਪਣੇ ਢੀਠਪੁਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ)
So what face should we put on to offer our prayer,
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਾਡਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਬੁਰਾ (ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਗ੍ਹ ਤੇ ਭੈੜੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਗ੍ਹ) ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਵਾਹ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ ।੨।
when both virtue and vice are close at hand as witnesses? ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈ, ਇਕ-ਮਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੋ ।
He is the Presence Ever-present; offer your prayers to Him.
ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨ ਜਾਣੋ ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਸੁਖ ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Pain and pleasure are in the Hands of God, the True Creator. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Nanak utters this one prayer;
ਸਾਡੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹੈ ।੩।
soul and body, all belong to You, Lord. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ (ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਅਰਦਾਸ) ਹੈ,
The true supplication, the true prayer
ਮਹਲ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ),
- within the Mansion of His Sublime Presence, the True Lord Master hears and applauds these.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
She is the slave of those who are spiritually wise.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਦੋਵੇਂ) ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
With her palms pressed together, she serves them and offers her prayer:
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ—ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
I offer my prayer to You; my body and soul are all Yours.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਦਰ ਸਤਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ) ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ । (ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਬੈਠਾਂ ਤਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੇ ।੪।੧੦।੪੯।
Says Nanak, this is all Your greatness; no one even knows my name. ||4||10||49||
ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! (—ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ
Night and day, I chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the treasure of excellence.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਇਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ
This is Nanak's prayer to God. ||4||23||74||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ,
Hear this prayer of Nanak:
(ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਵਸਾਣ ਲਈ) ਦੇਹ ।੪।੨੬।੭੭।
please, infuse Your Name into his heart. ||4||26||77||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਨਾਨਕ (ਦੋਵੇਂ) ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
With his palms pressed together, Nanak offers his prayer:
ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੪।੩੭।੮੮।
O Lord, Treasure of Excellence, please bless me with the service of the Saints. ||4||37||88||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I offer this prayer to the Perfect Guru.
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੫।੯੯।
Nanak begs for the treasure of the Lord's Name. ||4||5||99||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ; ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I contemplate the Guru, the Guru; I meditate on the Guru, the Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਲੋੜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
I offer my heart-felt prayer to the Guru, and it is answered. ||Pause||
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਉਂ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ
Please, Lord, save the sinners.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡਿੱਗੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹੈ ।੩।੬।੧੬੨।
This is Nanak's prayer, O my mind. ||3||6||162||
ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I offer my prayer to the Lord,
ਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ
that I might dwell in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ—ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਾਂ) ।
This is Nanak's prayer, that he may be adorned with the True Name.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
When self-conceit is eradicated, and understanding is obtained, one meets the Lord, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਖਸਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਹੀ ਫਬਦੀ ਹੈ ।
No one can issue commands to the Lord Master; offer instead humble prayers.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਧੋਖੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਧੋਖਾ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Practicing falsehood, only falsehood is obtained. O Nanak, through the Lord's Praise, one blossoms forth. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਖਾਈਏ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ;
Let us all celebrate Him, from whom we receive our nourishment.
ਮਾਲਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੀ ਫਬਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧੨।
O Nanak, no one can issue commands to the Lord Master; let us offer prayers instead. ||22||
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ‘ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ’ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੀੲ
I offer my prayer to the One, from whom I was created.
ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Serving my True Guru, I have obtained all the fruits.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ (ਇਉਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ) ਹੈ—(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ,
O God, Your humble servant offers his prayer to You; You are my True Master.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
You are my Protector, forever and ever; I meditate on You.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ
When your soul is feeling sad, offer your prayers to the Guru.
ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ
Renounce all your cleverness, and dedicate your mind and body to Him.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ।
He hears and beholds all; God is with us, the nearest of the near.
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲੈ ।੧।
O Lord and Master, hear Nanak's prayer; please save the servants of Your household. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਆਪ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈਂ (ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ
You alone are the Great Giver of all; I offer my prayer unto You, Lord.
ਜਿਸਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲਗੇ, ਉਸਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।
One with whom You are pleased, is accepted by You; how blessed is such a person!
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੋਵੇਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਬਣੇ ।
Nanak is Your merchant; You, O Lord Master, are my merchandise.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਹਮ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ-ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੪।੧।
My mind is cleansed of doubt, only when I praise You, and pray to You. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ,
Your servant offers this prayer, O Beloved:
(ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I live by meditating on Your Feet, God. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਤੈਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੇ੍ਰਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
It is Yours to bestow Your Grace, and it is mine to speak this prayer; You created Yourself.
ਮੇਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
When I have spoken, I spoke as You made me speak. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹ ਸੜਨੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
Seeing that this world on fire, I have hurried to the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ—ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ । ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।
I offer my prayer to the Perfect Guru: please save me, and bless me with Your glorious greatness.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਮ-ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਧੇ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ) ।
In the City of Death, they are bound and beaten, and no one hears their prayers.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਜੀਵ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਮਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
O Nanak, they act according to their pre-ordained destiny; the Gurmukh abides in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ, (ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਵਿਘਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੂਰੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
My Lord and Master has heard my prayer, and all my affairs have been resolved.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਅਜ਼ਮਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਉੱਘੜ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੧।
The glorious greatness of Guru Nanak is manifest, throughout all the ages. ||4||11||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਧਨ-ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ।
O Dear Lord, You are my peace, wealth and capital.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅੰਦੇਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
Please, save me, O my Beloved! I offer this prayer to my God. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ । ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਹੀ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
My True Guru is the Savior of sinners; I have placed my trust and faith in Him.
ਜਿਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲਏ ਹਨ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ), ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਭੀ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧੭।੪੫।
The True Lord has heard Nanak's prayer, and He has forgiven everything. ||2||17||45||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
My God is forever Merciful.
ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
He heard the prayer of His devotee, and now all beings are kind and compassionate to him. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
With my palms pressed together, I offer my prayer.
ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ
I wash their feet, and chant the Praises of the Lord, the treasure of virtue.
ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰੱਖਾਂ
I serve the One Lord, I contemplate the One Lord, and to the One Lord, I offer my prayer.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਸੌਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਪੰੂਜੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
Nanak has gathered in the wealth, the merchandise of the Naam; this is the true capital. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਧਿ ਵਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ) ਤਿੰਨੇ ਹੀ ਤਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ
The Lord is the One who removes the three fevers; He is the Destroyer of pain, the warehouse of peace.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ।੧।
No obstacles block the path of one who prays before God. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਸੱਜਣ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ (ਸਰੀਰ-) ਚੋਲੇ (ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ) ਰੰਗੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਦਾ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਹੈ ।
Those whose shawls are so dyed, O Beloved, their Husband Lord is always with them.
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਨਾਨਕ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ, ਭਲਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ।੩।
Bless me with the dust of those humble beings, O Dear Lord. Says Nanak, this is my prayer. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਹਾਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ
The Pure Lord God knows your condition.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ (ਕਿ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਹਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਫਸਣ ਦੇਵੇ) ।੪।੧।
O Nanak, recite your prayer to the holy people. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ । (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ
O God, You are all-powerful, inexpressible and imperceptible; my soul and body are Your capital.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲੇ) ।੪।੩।
By Your Mercy, may I find peace; this is Nanak's lasting prayer. ||4||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ । ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ
You alone are my strength, and my Court, O my Lord and Master; unto You alone I pray.
ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਮੈਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ । ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸੁਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।
There is no other place where I can offer my prayers; I can tell my pains and pleasures only to You. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ । (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Whatever God wills, that alone happens.
ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
Without You, there is no other at all.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
Pressing my palms together, I offer my prayer;
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ) ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
if it pleases You, Lord, please bless me and fulfill me.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ
Hear this prayer of Nanak, O Lord;
ਅਸਾਂ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।੫।੧੪।੨੦।
I am a stone, sinking down - please, rescue me! ||5||14||20||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਇਕ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Nanak makes one prayer:
ਹੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!(ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ) ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ ।੪।੧੮।੨੪।
may I never forget You, O perfect treasure of virtue. ||4||18||24||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ) ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤੇਰੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈਂ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
You are unfathomable, infinite, lofty and exalted. There is no one else like You.
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਇਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ ।੬।
This is my prayer, O my Lord and Master; may I never forget You, O Peace-giving Lord. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਹੈਂ
O my Lord and Master, You are the honor of the dishonored such as me.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I offer my prayer to You, God; listening, listening to the Word of Your Bani, I live. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ
May I become the dust of the feet of Your humble servants. I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾੲ।
Nanak makes this one prayer: if it pleases Your Will,
ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੮।੧।੩।
bless me with a home in Your Name, Lord, that I may sing Your Glorious Praises. ||8||1||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
Nanak offers this prayer to the Saints
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਣ ।੮।
- please let me merge and blend with You. ||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
God has shown Mercy, and I have found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਔਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਹੈ
Virtue is in You, O Lord; I am totally without virtue. This is Nanak's only prayer:
ਕਿ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਭਾਗਣ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਇਕ ਰਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਕਦੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ) ।੧।
You give all Your nights to the virtuous soul-brides. I know I am unworthy, but isn't there a night for me as well? ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੀਹ ਮੰਗਾਂ? ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੀਹ ਆਖਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਣੇਂ? ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਹਾਂ ।
What should I beg for? What should I say and hear? I am hungry and thirsty for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖਸਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਮੇਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ।੨।
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, I have found my Husband Lord. This is Nanak's true prayer. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਪਿੰਡ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ-ਕਿਤਾਬ ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
I pray to the Messenger of Death: please, I still have some outstanding debts to collect in the village.
(ਜੇ ਆਗਿਆ ਦੇਵੋ) ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਰਾਤ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ,
I will collect them tonight;
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹਨ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੈ ।
All beings and creatures seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary; all thought of their care rests with You.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੇ (ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਰਹਾਂ) ।੪।੨।
That which pleases Your Will is good; this alone is Nanak's prayer. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੰਗ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ । (ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I ask for everything from You, but only the very fortunate ones obtain it.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਵਾਂ ।੪।੧੨।੪੨।
This is Nanak's prayer, O God, I live by singing Your Glorious Praises. ||4||12||42||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਪ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
No obstacles will block your way, when you offer your prayers to the Guru.
(ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ।੧।
The Sovereign Lord of the Universe is the Saving Grace, the Protector of the capital of His devotees. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਜਿਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ, ਜਿਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ,
God, the Great Giver, has become merciful; He has listened to my prayer.
ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਦੋਖੀ-ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ (ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ) ।੧।
He has saved His servant, and put ashes into the mouth of the slanderer. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣੇ ਰਹੋ) ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਦੇ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਰੋਗ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
The prayer of the Lord's humble servant is never offered in vain.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ । ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧੩।੭੭।
Nanak takes the strength of the Perfect Lord of the Universe, the treasure of excellence. ||2||13||77||
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।੧੪।੧੮।
O my Lord and Master, please listen to the prayer of Your humble servant; You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
Nanak's Lord and Master is permeating and pervading all places and interspaces. ||2||14||78||
Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜ ਰਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ,
The world is going up in flames - shower it with Your Mercy, and save it!
ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਬਚ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।
Save it, and deliver it, by whatever method it takes.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
If a prayer is offered with truth and contentment,
ਤਦੋਂ (ਅਰਦਾਸ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਸਵਾਲੀ ਨੂੰ) ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਿਠਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
the Lord will hear it, and call him in to sit by Him. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ,
Nanak prays to the merciful Primal Lord;
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਵਰਤਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ਼ੈ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ ।੪।੨੪।੩੫।
the Lord is my merchandise, and the Lord is my capital. ||4||24||35||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ,
Please take pity on me, and hear my prayer,
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਹ,
that Your servant may behold the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜ) ਸਿਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ;
He Himself knows, He Himself acts, and He Himself does it right.
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਅਦਬ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
So stand before Him, O Nanak, and offer your prayers. ||1||
