ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੰਡਾ ਚੁੱਭਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹ ੈ ।
The wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not know the Taste of the Lord's Sublime Essence. The thorn of egotism is embedded deep within them.
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਕੰਡਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਚੁੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ-ਰੂਪ ਡੰਡਾ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੨।
The more they walk away, the deeper it pierces them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||
ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਦਾਤ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ) ਤੇ ਰੱਜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੜੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ ।
No matter what they are given, they are not satisfied; within their hearts there is great desire, ignorance and darkness.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਟੁੱਟਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, it is good to break away from the self-willed manmukhs, who have love and attachment to Maya. ||1||
ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ) ਪੱਥਰ ਹੈ ਚਟਾਨ ਹੈ (ਪੱਥਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਚਟਾਨ ਵਾਂਗ ਕੁਰਖ਼ਤ ਹੈ), ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬੇ-ਸੁਆਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed manmukh is a rock, a stone. His life is cursed and useless.
ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਮਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸੁੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦ੍ਰਵਦਾ) ।੭।
No matter now long a stone is kept under water, it still remains dry at its core. ||7||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੱੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੋੜ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ (ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ
The true society is the company of those who meditate on the Name of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ।੨।
Do not associate with those, O Nanak, who look out only for their own interests. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪਰੇ ਰੱਖ, ਪਰੇ ਰੱਖ ।
Turn away, O my mind, turn away.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਾਕਤ ਝੂਠੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਝੂਠ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ,
Turn away from the faithless cynic.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੱਛੀ (ਤੜਫਦੀ) ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Like a fish without water is the faithless cynic, who dies of thirst.
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਸੁਆਸ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
So shall you die, O mind, without the Lord, as your breath goes in vain. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹ
The faithless cynic passes his life uselessly.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਚੂਹਾ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰ ਟੁੱਕ ਟੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਗਵਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਉਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
He is like the mouse, gnawing away at the pile of paper, making it useless to the poor wretch. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝੋ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਥੋਮ ਦੀ ਭਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, the faithless cynic is like a piece of garlic.
ਥੋਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਲੁਕਵੇਂ ਥਾਂ ਭੀ ਬਹਿ ਕੇ ਖਾ ਲਈਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਬੋ ਤੋਂ) ਉੱਘੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧੭।
Even if you eat it sitting in a corner, it becomes obvious to everyone. ||17||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੀ ਹਟ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, do not associate with the faithless cynics; run far away from them.
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਛੋਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਥੋੜਾ-ਬਹੁਤ ਦਾਗ਼ ਲੱਗ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੩੨।
If you touch a vessel stained with soot, some of the soot will stick to you. ||131||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਸਾਕਤ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਸੂਰ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਜਾਣੋ (ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦਾ ਗੰਦ ਖਾ ਕੇ) ਪਿੰਡ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸੁਥਰਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, even a pig is better than the faithless cynic; at least the pig keeps the village clean.
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗੀ ਸਾਕਤ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚੇਤਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ।੧੪੩।
When the wretched, faithless cynic dies, no one even mentions his name. ||143||
