(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲੋਂ ਮੁਕਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ
They eat and wear what they are given, but still, they deny the Lord.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮ-ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
The messengers of the Righteous Judge of Dharma shall hunt them down. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਕਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Within their minds, they have forgotten that Lord and Master, who created the soul, breath of life, mind and body. ||3||
ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬਹੁਤ ਭਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਰੂਪ ਘੋਰ ਨਰਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹੈੇ ।
In the most horrible hell, there is terrible pain and suffering. It is the place of the ungrateful.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
They are struck down by God, O Nanak, and they die a most miserable death. ||1||
ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਉਹ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ (ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ),
The ungrateful wretch does not appreciate what he has been given; he wanders lost in reincarnation.
(ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਾਉ-ਪੇਚਾਂ ਦੇ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਤਾਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ (ਫਲ ਭੋਗਣ ਲਈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਚੁੱਕ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He loses all support, when the Support of the Lord is taken away from him.
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਡੱਪਣ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ) ।
You are great and all-powerful; my understanding is so inadequate, O Lord.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ-ਸਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You cherish even the ungrateful ones; Your Glance of Grace is perfect, Lord.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰੇ ਹਾਂ; ਤੂੰ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You bless me with everything, showering me with Mercy; And I am such an ungrateful wretch!
ਹੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ, ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।੩।
I am attached to Your gifts, but I do not even think of You, O my Lord and Master. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
You fool, you have forgotten the Lord from your mind!
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਬੜੀ ਬੇ-ਸ਼ਰਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You eat His salt, and then you are untrue to Him; before your very eyes, you shall be torn apart. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who forgets the Primal Lord, the Architect of karma,
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ (ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਨਾਲ) ਸੜਿਆ ਭੁੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
wanders around burning, and remains tormented.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਉਪਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਭੈੜੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਬਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ । ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ ਇਸ) ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
No one can save such an ungrateful person; he is thrown into the most horrible hell. ||7||
