(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਤੂੰ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੀੜੇ ਪਤੰਗੇ ਬਣਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ,
In so many incarnations, you were a worm and an insect;
ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਥੀ ਮੱਛ ਹਿਰਨ ਬਣਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ।
in so many incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish and a deer.
ਇਸੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
So many lifetimes are wasted in these ways.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ) ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਬਚਾ ਲਵੋ ।੭।
Nanak: uplift them, and redeem them, O Lord - show Your Mercy! ||7||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਤਾਂ) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਪਾਪੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
I am just a fool, but millions of sinners just like me have been saved.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ (ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼) ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ ।੪।੨।੧੩।
Those who have heard, and seen Guru Nanak, do not descend into the womb of reincarnation again. ||4||2||13||
ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰਾ) ਇਹ ਜਨਮ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤੇ
For so many incarnations, I have been separated from You, Lord; I dedicate this life to You.
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ ਮਾਧੋ! ; ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਬੜਾ ਚਿਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।੧।
Says Ravi Daas: placing my hopes in You, I live; it is so long since I have gazed upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The foolish faithless cynics are held captive by Maya; in Maya, they continue wandering, wandering around.
ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ) ਭੌਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਲਦ ਕੋਹਲੂ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Burnt by desire, and bound by the karma of their past actions, they go round and round, like the ox at the mill press. ||2||
