(ਚੰਗਾ) ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤਰੀਕਤ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਅਤੇ (ਚੰਗਾ) ਹਿੰਦੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ, ਜੋ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ
The Muslim knows the Muslim way of life; the Hindu knows the Vedas and Puraanas.
(ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਉੱਚੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਨੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ;।੫।
To instruct their minds, people ought to study some sort of spiritual wisdom. ||5||
ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹ ਅੱਖਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਪਦੇਸ਼) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਏ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ
Do not call anyone bad; read these words, and understand.
ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਝਗੜਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ।੧੯।
Don't argue with fools. ||19||
ਹੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਪਾਂਡੇ! ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਦੇਹ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ?
You are blind in your mind, and do not understand your own self; how can you make others understand, O brother?
(ਇਸ ਪੜ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਸੀ ਆਪ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਠਾ ਰਹੇ, ਇਸ) ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਵੇਚ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
For the sake of Maya and money, you sell knowledge; your life is totally worthless. ||3||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸਿੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
By Guru's Grace, contemplate spiritual knowledge; read it and study it, and you shall be honored.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਚਮਕ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ), ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Within the self, the self is revealed, when one is blessed with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
