ਪੰਡਿਤ ਤੇ ਜੋਤਸ਼ੀ ਲੋਕ (ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਨਿਰੀਆਂ) ਬਹਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
After all their reading, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the astrologers argue and debate.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ) ਹ
Their intellect and understanding are perverted; they just don't understand. They are filled with greed and corruption.
ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ ਜਗਤ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ)
In the corruption of the three qualities, there is blindness; in attachment to Maya, there is darkness.
ਲੋਭ-ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਜੀਵ (ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ) ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ) ਢੰਢੋਰਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
The greedy people serve others, instead of the Lord, although they loudly announce their reading of scriptures.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ (ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਚਰਨ (ਬਣਾ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਚਮਕ ਉੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ
By Guru's Grace, your face shall be radiant. Chanting the Naam, you shall receive the benefits of giving charity and taking cleansing baths.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਉੱਕਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Sexual desire, anger and greed are eliminated, and all egotistical pride is abandoned. ||2||
ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੜ ਜਾਏ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਜਲ ਜਾਏ, ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਲੋਭ ਸੜ ਜਾਏ ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਸੜ ਬਲ ਜਾਏ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ)
May my egotism and possessiveness be burnt to ashes, and my greed and egotistical pride consigned to the fire.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੧੦।
O Nanak, contemplating the Shabad, the Treasure of Excellence is obtained. ||8||10||
ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ, ਘਰ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ
The enticing desire for Maya leads people to become emotionally attached to their children, relatives, households and spouses.
ਧਨ ਨੇ, ਜੁਆਨੀ ਨੇ, ਲੋਭ ਨੇ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੇ, (ਸਾਰੇ) ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਟ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
The world is deceived and plundered by riches, youth, greed and egotism.
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜੇ ਉਸ ਸ਼ੂਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਸਦਾ) ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ
When you are under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with your wealth;
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਉੱਘੇ ਪਾਪ-ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ, ਜੇ ਉਹ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਭੈੜਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਵ
if you have committed the four great sins and other mistakes; even if you are a murderous fiend
ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਤੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹ
Through the Kind and Compassionate True Guru, I have met the Lord; I have conquered sexual desire, anger and greed.
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।੧।੩।
Our Indescribable Lord and Master cannot be described. Nanak is devoted, forever a sacrifice to Him. ||5||1||3||
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਿਚ (ਵਰਤਿਆਂ) ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ (ਮਾਇਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਹਿੱਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਡੋਲਣੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The soul becomes steady, and does not waver, by the natural inclination of the Guru's Loving Will.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲੋਭ-ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ
Without the Guru, intuitive wisdom does not come, and the filth of greed does not depart from within.
ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You Yourself recognize Your Own Self.
ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਸੰਤ ਨੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਭ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੩।
I am a sacrifice to Your Saints, who have crushed their sexual desire, anger and greed. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
The world is burning in the fire of desire,
(ਇਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
in greed, arrogance and excessive ego.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They lose their whole lives in the gamble.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਲੋਭ (ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
Within is the terrible darkness of greed, and so they come and go in reincarnation, over and over again. ||7||
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ (ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇਗੀ, ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ।
In this way, the filth of lifetimes of karma shall be removed, and egotistical pride shall vanish from your mind.
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸੀਦਾ, ਲੋਭ-ਕੁੱਤਾ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਲੋਭ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਦਰ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Sexual desire and anger shall not seduce you, and the dog of greed shall depart.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਇਕ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ) ਹੈਂ, ਇਹ (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Forever and ever, You are the only One; You set the play of duality in motion.
(ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ (ਭੀ) ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
You created egotism and arrogant pride, and You placed greed within our beings.
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ) ਪੜੇ੍ਹ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।
That scholar who is full of greed, arrogant pride and egotism, is known to be a fool.
(ਕਿਸੇ ਥਿੱਤ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਮਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
So read the Name, and realize the Name, and contemplate the Guru's Teachings.
ਨਿਰਦਇਤਾ, ਮੋਹ, ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ—ਇਹ ਚਾਰੇ ਅੱਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਦੀਆਂ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ) ਹਨ,
Cruelty, material attachment, greed and anger are the four rivers of fire.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ) ਲੱਗ ਕੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Falling into them, one is burned, O Nanak! One is saved only by holding tight to good deeds. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਦੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
It gathers in the assets of sin and greed.
(ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ (ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹੈ ਬੇੜੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
So swim across the river of life, O my mind, with the Sacred Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅਮਰ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ) ਇਹ ਜਗਤ (ਇਕ) ਖੇਡ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ ।
With your nectar-like body, you live in comfort, but this world is just a passing drama.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ! ਤੂੰ ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੂੜ ਕਮਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ), ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਕੂੜ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਕੀਤੇ ਮਾੜੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਰ ਚੁਕਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You practice greed, avarice and great falsehood, and you carry such a heavy burden.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ ! ਤੂੰ (ਜੋਗ ਦਾ) ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੰਸਾ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
Practicing hypocrisy and attaching your mind to worldly objects, your doubt shall never depart.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਲੱਬ ਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।੩।
If you focus your consciousness on the Feet of the One Lord, what reason would you have to chase after greed? ||3||
ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਧਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਤੇ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਹਨ, ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹਨ)—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।
It is seen to afflict the rich, the poor and the glorious.
ਕਿਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਲੋਭ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
The source of this illness which torments us is greed. ||1||
ਜੀਭ ਖਾਣ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The tongue is asleep, in its desire for sweet flavors.
ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The mind is asleep, fascinated by Maya. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੀਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ, ਕਰੋਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed and ego are eradicated;
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਧੋ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all sinful mistakes are washed away. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਵੇਖੋ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਉਦਾਰਤਾ !) ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹ
For their own advantage, they make God their friend.
(ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਭੀ ਦੇ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।
He fulfills all their desires, and blesses them with the state of liberation. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ)—ਹੇ (ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਦੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ, ਕਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ, ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।
My mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, O Giver to the unworthy.
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੪।੧।੧੩੮।
Please grant Your Grace, and bless me with Your Name; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||4||1||138||
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!) ਲੋਭ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਅਪਣੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਨ, ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ, ਗ਼ਮੀ—(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ।੧।
Greed, emotional attachment to Maya, possessiveness, the service of evil, pleasure and pain - those who are not touched by these, are the very embodiment of the Divine Lord. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਰਗ ਅਤੇ ਨਰਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Heaven and hell, ambrosial nectar and poison, gold and copper - these are all alike to them.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਭੀ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹਨ (ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰੇ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ—ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਹਨ), ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਮੋਹ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
Praise and slander are all the same to them, as are greed and attachment. ||2||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿੱਥੇ (ਲੋਭ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਪਾਗਲ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ?
O mind, why have you gone crazy?
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਮਰ ਘਟਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Don't you know that your life is decreasing, day and night? Your life is made worthless with greed. ||1||Pause||
ਨਿੱਤ ਦੇਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I have seen the world being destroyed by greed and egotism.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Only by serving the Guru is God obtained, and the true gate of liberation found. ||4||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈਂ (ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਤੇ ਪਖੰਡ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ।
O camel-like mind, you are my friend; abandon hypocrisy and greed.
ਪਖੰਡੀ ਤੇ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
The hypocritical and the greedy are struck down; the Messenger of Death punishes them with his club. ||6||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੋ ।
Abandon sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਦੋਹਾਂ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
Thus you shall be rid of both birth and death. ||6||
ਤਿਵੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦ (ਬੜੀ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ) ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਥਾਂ ਥਾਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਭਟਕਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
In duality, no one has ever found peace, O my dear; you are greedy for corruption and greed.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ) ਸੁਖ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ?
Greedy for corruption and greed, and deluded by doubt, how can anyone find peace?
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ!) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ । ਬੜਾ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਲ ਤੇ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
The Cherisher Lord is so very merciful and wise; He is compassionate to all.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮੋਹ ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ (ਕੰਡੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਚੁੱਭਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The pains of death, greed and emotional attachment simply vanish, when God comes to dwell in the soul.
ਬਾਹਰ (ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) (ਤੀਰਥ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Outwardly, they display knowledge, meditation and purification,
ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਭੀ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ (-ਰੂਪ) ਕੱੁਤਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
but within clings the dog of greed.
ਵੈਰ ਵਿਰੋਧ, ਕਾਮ, ਗੁੱਸਾ, ਮੋਹ,
Hate, conflict, sexual desire, anger, emotional attachment,
ਝੂਠ, ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮ, ਭਾਰੀ ਲਾਲਚ ਤੇ ਦਗ਼ਾ
falsehood, corruption, immense greed and deceit:
ਪੈਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ (ਜੇ ਇਹ) ਪਰਾਏ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
False are the feet which run to do evil to others.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈਂ (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ) ਪਰਾਏ ਧਨ ਦਾ ਲੋਭ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।
False is the mind which covets the wealth of others.
(ਮੇਰਾ) ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment - may these be gone, and egotism as well.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ)—ਹੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਸਰਣ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ।
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God; please bless me with Your Grace, O Divine Guru. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਕੱਢ ।
The second day of the lunar cycle: Get rid of your evil-mindedness, and serve the Guru continually.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ, (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The jewel of the Lord's Name shall come to dwell in your mind and body, when you renounce sexual desire, anger and greed, O my friend.
(ਨਗਰ ਦੇ) ਮੁਖੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ (ਤੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਕਿ) ਇਹ ਤਪਾ ਲੋਭ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਗਲਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The village elders all laughed, saying that the waves of greed have destroyed this penitent.
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਥੋਹੜਾ ਧਨ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਓਥੇ ਤਾਂ ਨੇੜੇ ਛੋਂਹਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਧਨ ਵੇਖਿਆਂ (ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਤਪੇ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਰਮ ਹਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
If he sees only a little wealth, he does not bother to go there; but when he sees a lot of wealth, the penitent forsakes his vows.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੂਲ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੱਬ, ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ,
The self-willed manmukhs forget the Primal Lord, the Source of all; they are caught in greed and egotism.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਸੰਬੰਧੀ) ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ।
They pass their nights and days in conflict and struggle; they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਸਾਧੂ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਿਹਾਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment are burnt away, in the Company of the Holy.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
God grants His Grace, and the Lord Himself tests them.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਲਾਲਚ, ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ
Set aside your greed and worldly ways.
ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ ।੨।
Set aside sexual desire, anger and egotism. ||2||
ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿਉ
Forget all your greed and emotional attachment;
(ਇਸ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਦਾ) ਐਸਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕੇਗਾ, ਐਸਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਵੋਗੇ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹੇਗਾ ।੧੦।
you shall live throughout the ages, eating the fruit of immortality. ||10||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਬਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਦਾ) ਝੱਖੜ ਝੁੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt.
(ਅਜੇਹੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਦੀਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਗ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੜ ਕੇ (ਕਲਿਜੁਗੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਧੜੇ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਝਗੜੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the five thieves instigate alliances and conflicts.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and self-conceit have increased.
ਤਪ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਤਪਸ੍ਵੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
She leads astray the penitents who practice penance.
ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਹੱਥੀਂ) ਠੱਗੇ ਗਏ
The scholarly Pandits are all seduced by greed.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ (ਠਾਠਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਲੋਭ ਨਾਲ) ਹਲਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Within them is greed, and they wander around like mad dogs.
ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ ਇਹ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They slander others and carry loads of sin upon their heads.
ਤੂੰ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਜਤਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ (ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੀ) ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈਂ
with your mouth you speak wisdom, but you are destroyed by pride.
ਪਰ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
The dog of greed has ruined you in every way. ||2||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ, ਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਇਗੀ
If she renounces and eliminates her sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, and her evil-mindedness and self-conceit as well;
ਹੇ ਸੰੁਦਰੀ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇਂਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗੇਂਗੀ।੧।
and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved's Heart. ||1||
ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗ਼ਲਤਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Your senses are beguiled by sensual pleasures of sex, by anger, greed and emotional attachment.
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੁਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਦੋਂ) ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਵਾਟਣੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The All-powerful Architect of Destiny has ordained that you shall be reincarnated over and over again. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ (ਪਰਾਇਆ) ਧਨ ਚੁਰਾ ਕੇ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਦਿਲ ਦੁਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Those who are attached to the poison of greed and sin grab at the wealth of others; they only bring pain on themselves.
ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਨਿਰਦਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
They are intoxicated by their pride in those things which shall be destroyed in an instant; those demons do not understand. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ, ਠੱਗੀ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ, ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
and release me from hope, thirst, deception, attachment and doubt? ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਬੀਮਾਰੀਆਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
How can I escape the afflictions of sexual desire, anger, greed and pride? ||1||
ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈ ।
Renounce sexual desire, anger and greed;
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ
remember the Name of the Lord of the Universe in your mind.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਇਸ (ਮਨੱੁਖੀ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂ (ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਹਾਲ ਹੈ),
Who should I tell the condition of the mind?
ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Engrossed in greed, running around in the ten directions, you hold to your hopes of wealth. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਚੋਰਾਂ) ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਲੁਟਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਸਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who are cheated by sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment suffer reincarnation forever.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆਂ, ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
By loving devotional worship to God, and meditative remembrance of the Lord of the World, one's wandering in reincarnation is ended. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਪੰਜ ਚੋਰ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਲੁੱਟਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ।
Within this body dwell the five thieves: sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and egotism.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਲੁਟਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੰੁਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ (ਕੋਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ) ।
They plunder the Nectar, but the self-willed manmukh does not realize it; no one hears his complaint.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ—ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ।
In sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and self-conceit, peace is not to be found.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੁ । ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ।
So be the dust of the feet of all, O my mind, and then you shall find bliss, joy and peace. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ
Talking with the Holy Saints, my sexual desire, anger and greed have been eradicated.
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲਏ ।੧।
Remembering, remembering the Perfect Lord in meditation, I have saved all my companions. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।
Meditate in remembrance on the One Lord; meditate in remembrance on the One Lord; meditate in remembrance on the One Lord, O my Beloved.
ਇਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਇਸ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਝਗੜੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ (ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਉਠ ਰਹੀਆਂ) ਹਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ
He shall save you from strife, suffering, greed, attachment, and the most terrifying world-ocean. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਹੈ
I have renounced sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ, ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨੀ, ਆਚਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰੱਖਣਾ—ਇਹ ਮੈਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੩।
I have enshrined the Naam within myself, with charity, true cleansing and righteous conduct. ||3||
ਮਨ (ਸਦਾ) ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ।੨।
Breaking my bonds, the Guru has liberated me. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਗ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ,
In the mother's womb, the fire does not touch him.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ (ਕੋਈ ਭੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਦਬਾਉ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment do not affect him.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਇਤਨੇ ਬਲੀ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਜੀਵ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਉਕਸਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment bring continual conflict and strife.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
Save me, save me, I am your humble creature, O Lord; I have come to Your Sanctuary, O my Lord God. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਵੈਰੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment are eradicated; all my enemies are eliminated.
ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ।੨।
He is always ever-present, here and now, watching over me; He is never far away. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਤੂੰ) ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ, ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ, ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਫੇਰ ਰੱਖੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
You are engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment; you have turned your eyes away from the Truth.
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਸਿਰ ਚੁੱਕਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ । (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
You cannot even raise your head above the water of the vast, impassable sea of Maya. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੈਂ,
He is intoxicated with the wine of sexual desire, anger and greed;
ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੌਡੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਆਪਣਾ (ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।
he loses this human life in exchance for a mere shell.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਥ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed, attachment, egotism and corrupt pleasures - stay away from these.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਭ ਰਸਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਰਸ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ । ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।
Join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and speak with the Holy People about the Lord. The Love of the Lord is the healing remedy; the Name of the Lord is the healing remedy. Chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Hardly anyone is a humble servant of Yours, O Lord.
(ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਮਾੜੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ । (ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Ignoring sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, such a person becomes aware of the Lord's Feet. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਵਿਚ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
His mind is saturated with sexual desire, anger and greed.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੜਫ ਮਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੁਛ ਲੁਛ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Wiggling like a fish out of water, he dies. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ,
The mortal is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
He does not meditate on God, that God who created him. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Sexual desire, anger, intoxication, egotism, slander and egotistical pride are eradicted in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਪਰ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।੩੯।੫੨।
By great good fortune, such Saints are met. Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||2||39||52||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਨੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀ ਚੌਪੜ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਬਣਾਵੋ, ਉੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਰਦ ਬਣਾਵੋ ।
Let righteous actions be your gameboard, and let the truth be your dice.
(ਇਸ ਨਰਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੁਸੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਭ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰੋ । ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੨।
Conquer sexual desire, anger, greed and worldly attachment; only such a game as this is dear to the Lord. ||2||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਪੰਜ ਹੀ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ । (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।
That household, in which the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung, in which the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung, in which His Glorious Praises are sung, where the Panch Shabad, the Five Primal Sounds, resound - great is the destiny written on the forehead of one who lives in such a household.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਚੁਰਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ) ਪੰਜਾਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
All the sins of that humble being are taken away, all the pains are taken away, all diseases are taken away; sexual desire, anger, greed, attachment and egotistical pride are taken away. The Lord drives the five thieves out of such a person of the Lord. ||1||
ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਹਉਮੈ ਈਰਖਾ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ
I have cast out sexual desire, anger, greed, egotism and envy; I have offered all this as a gift.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।੧।
The Guru has implanted the medicine of the Lord's Mantra within me, and I have met with the All-knowing Lord God. ||1||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ ਈਰਖਾ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨਾਸ ਕਰ
Sexual desire, anger, greed, pride and envy are destroyed in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਾਂ-ਪਿਉ (ਵਾਂਗ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ।੨।੭੭।੧੦੦।
He is the Lover of His devotees, the Destroyer of fear; O Nanak, He is our Mother and Father. ||2||77||100||
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ;
The mortal performs all sorts of rituals in greed and attachment; engrossed in egotsim, he shall never escape the cycle of reincarnation.
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੈੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ), ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪ ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਣਾ (—ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ) ।੨।
O Nanak, the Creator Himself inspires all to act. Whatever pleases Him is good. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
The Perfect Guru is obtained by great good fortune.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Drive out sexual desire, anger and greed from your mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ।
Chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam.
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਤਾਪ—(ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Conflict, suffering, greed and emotional attachment shall be dispelled, and the fever of egotism shall be relieved. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਦੇਵ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਲੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੈਲਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
When You bestow Your Ambrosial Glance of Grace, You eradicate all wickedness, sin and filth.
ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ—ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment - You have overcome all these powerful passions.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭਉ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ) ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਨੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ—ਇਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਨੋ), ਨੇਜਾ ਗੱਡਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ,
He is fearless in the Fear of the Eternal Lord God; He has thrust the spear of the Word of the Guru's Shabad into the mind.
ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
He has cut down the five demons of unfulfilled sexual desire, unresolved anger, unsatisfied greed, emotional attachment and self-conceit.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਮੰਨ, ਇਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ; ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨ ਕਿ ਇਹੀ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾ ਲਏਂਗਾ ।
Respect and obey the Guru's Word; this is your own personal treasure - know this mantra as true. Night and day, you shall be saved, and blessed with the supreme status.
ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਜਣੇ ਖਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਠੱਗੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ; ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ (ਭੀ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ।
Renounce sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment; give up your games of deception. Snap the noose of egotism, and let yourself be at home in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
