(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ-) ਸ਼ਹਰ ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਜੋੜ ਨੂੰ) ਤੋੜਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The body-village is filled to overflowing with anger and sexual desire; these were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਵ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੋੜ ਟੱੁਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
By pre-ordained destiny, I have met with the Guru. I have entered into the realm of the Lord's Love. ||1||
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜੇ ਉਸ ਸ਼ੂਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਸਦਾ) ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ
When you are under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with your wealth;
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਉੱਘੇ ਪਾਪ-ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ, ਜੇ ਉਹ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਭੈੜਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਵ
if you have committed the four great sins and other mistakes; even if you are a murderous fiend
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ (ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇਗੀ, ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ।
In this way, the filth of lifetimes of karma shall be removed, and egotistical pride shall vanish from your mind.
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸੀਦਾ, ਲੋਭ-ਕੁੱਤਾ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਲੋਭ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਦਰ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Sexual desire and anger shall not seduce you, and the dog of greed shall depart.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ, ਕਿ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਭੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ । ਸੋ, ਉਹ ਕਾਮ ਕਰੋਧ-ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ (ਜ਼ਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਵਧਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
They do not recognize the ultimate reality, that we all must go; they continue to cultivate the poisons of sexual desire and anger.
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਤ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
The devotees serve the Lord; night and day, they meditate on the Naam.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ-ਨਗਰ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਅੰਸ਼ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।

ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਦੀ ਸਜਾਵਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।

(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!) ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਆ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਹੋਸ਼ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।
The heart is filled with anger and violence, which cause all sense to be forgotten.
(ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਨੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਗਿਆਨ ਚੁਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ।੧।
The jewel of spiritual wisdom has been taken away from everyone; nothing can withstand it. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਣ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਨਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਤਾਂਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ),
One who makes Truthfulness his fast and religious vows, does not suffer the pain of death.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਸਾੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he burns away his anger.
ਜੀਵ (ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰੂਪ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸਤ, ਸੰਤੋਖ, ਦਇਆ, ਧਰਮ ਤੇ ਧੀਰਜ) ਪੰਜੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
One bathes in the water of purity when it is pleasing to God, and obtains the five virtues by reflective meditation.
ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਖੋਟ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Renouncing sexual desire, anger, deceit and corruption, he enshrines the True Name in his heart.
ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਮੈਲੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ, ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
The self-willed manmukhs have filthy faces; they do not know the Word of the Shabad; in sexual desire and anger they waste away.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅਦਬ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ
They forsake the Fear of the True Guru, and because of their stubborn ego, their efforts do not come to fruition.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ—ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ।
In sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and self-conceit, peace is not to be found.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੁ । ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ।
So be the dust of the feet of all, O my mind, and then you shall find bliss, joy and peace. ||2||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਡਾਲ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Anger is the outcaste which hides within his body;
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਬੜਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਸਤਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ) ।੩।
he is in the utter darkness of ignorance, and he does not understand. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਉਚਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਦੌੜਨ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠੇ, ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ।
Singing the Guru's Bani, I have obtained the supreme status; meeting with the Saints, the self-elect, I am blessed and adorned.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੱਸ ਗਈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਖੰਡ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ।
Anger and attachment have left my body and run away; I have eradicated hypocrisy and doubt.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੋਹਾਗਾ (ਕੁਠਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਏ) ਸੋਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਰਮ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਬਲ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Unfulfilled sexual desire and unresolved anger waste the body away,
ਉਹ (ਢਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਸੋਨਾ (ਕੁਠਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸੇਕ ਸਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
as gold is dissolved by borax.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone is pure, who eradicates anger.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He realizes the Shabad, and reforms himself.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੜੇ ਬਲੀ ਹਨ, (ਜੀਵ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Sexual desire and anger are very powerful in the world.
ਪਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਿਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਰਮ (ਭੀ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ (ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ ।
They lead to all sorts of actions, but these only add to all the pain.
।(ਧਿਆਨ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖੋ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
Everyone is burning in the fires of sexuality and anger.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਜੇ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ) ।੧੫।
Serving the True Guru, one brings his mind under control; conquering his mind, he merges in the Mind of God. ||15||
ਬੜੇ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ) ਲੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They struggle with great anger; here and hereafter, they suffer in pain.
ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ।
The Dear Lord is not pleased by egotism; the Vedas proclaim this clearly.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
Sexual desire, anger and the pleasures of terrible corruption - he keeps away from these.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਰਸ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
He meditates on the Lord, Merciful to the meek, the Embodiment of Compassion; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||9||13||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ-) ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ (ਆਦਿਕ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਬਲਵਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਉੱਠ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਜੁੱਧ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Sexual desire and anger are very powerful in the body-village; I rise up to fight the battle against them.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈ ।੨।
Please make me Your Own and save me; through the Perfect Guru, I drive them out. ||2||
ਹੇ ਝਗੜੇ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਕਦੇ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਪਜਦੀ ।
O anger, you are the root of conflict; compassion never rises up in you.
ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਤੇਰੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਇਉਂ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਾਂਦਰ ।
You take the corrupt, sinful beings in your power, and make them dance like monkeys.
