ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ
O my Beloved, I live by meditating on Your Name.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without Your Name, my life does not even exist. My True Guru has implanted the Naam within me. ||1||Pause||
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ
The Master's Name is Priceless; no one knows its value.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ (ਜਾਗਣ), ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Those who have good destiny recorded upon their foreheads, O Nanak, enjoy the Love of the Lord. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One whose heart is filled with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁਖ-ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੦।੭੯।
- O Nanak, his pains and sorrows are eliminated. ||4||10||79||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ (ਹੀ) ਆਸਰਾ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Hey, soul: your only Support is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
(ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਹੋਰ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਭੀ ਉੱਦਮ-ਜਤਨ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ (ਬਣਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Whatever else you do or make happen, the fear of death still hangs over you. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ
Without the Naam, I cannot live.
ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
By great good fortune, the Gurmukhs obtain the Naam. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ) ।
If you chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the Messenger of Death will have nothing to say to you.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, the mind and body will be at peace, and in the end, you shall merge with the Lord of the world. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈਦਾ ।
Your Name is the Fearless Lord; chanting Your Name, one does not have to go to hell.
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਖਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਭੋਜਨ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਤਨਾ ਕੁ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇਹ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਲਾਉਣਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਤਨ ਹੈ ।
Soul and body all belong to Him; asking Him to give us sustenance is a waste.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਠੰਢ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ;
Within the Gurmukh is peace and tranquility; his mind and body are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ੁਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ;
He contemplates the Naam, he studies the Naam, and he remains lovingly absorbed in the Naam.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
The Name of the Lord is forever the Giver of peace.
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਅਜਾਮਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, (ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ) ਵੇਸੁਆ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਸੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Meditating in remembrance on it, Ajaamal was saved, and Ganika the prostitute was emancipated. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ; (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Ambrosial Nectar rains down and the mind is satisfied, remaining lovingly attuned to the True Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਰੂਪੀ ਹਰੀਆਵਲੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਭਾਵ ਗੁਣ ਹਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਰਝਾਂਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਅਭਾਵ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the Lord's Name, it is forever rejuvenated; it shall never wither and dry up again. ||4||
