(ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਵੇਖ ! ਕੂੰਜ) ਉੱਡ ਉੱਡ ਕੇ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਕੋਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਿੱਛੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ (ਇਕੱਲੇ) ਛੱਡੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਖੁਆਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕੋਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁਗਾਂਦਾ ।
The flamingoes fly hundreds of miles, leaving their young ones behind.
ਉਹ ਕੂੰਜ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਇਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਦਾ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੩।
Who feeds them, and who teaches them to feed themselves? Have you ever thought of this in your mind? ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ
Worship and adore the Lotus Feet of the Lord God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ) ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੨।
Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, my anxiety has come to an end. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਮਾਂ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
It is a good time, when I remember Him in meditation.
ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ) ਡਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ ।
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, peace is not found.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ) ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਰੰਗ ਸਭ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਛੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
All the other loves and tastes of Maya are bland and insipid. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ ! ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।
Meditate in remembrance on the Lord every day, O my Siblings of Destiny.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Thus, the filth of millions of incarnations shall be taken away. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਬਿਪਤਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਵਾਪਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ) ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
Misfortune occurs where the Lord is not remembered in meditation.
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਥੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਨ ।੧।
There are millions of joys where the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ ।
Those who listen with their mind and ears to the Lord's meditative remembrance,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ! (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
are blessed with peace at the Lord's Gate, O mortal. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਨਾਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।
Renounce both praise and blame; seek instead the state of Nirvaanaa.
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਖੇਡ (ਖੇਡਣੀ) ਔਖੀ ਹੈ । ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧।
O servant Nanak, this is such a difficult game; only a few Gurmukhs understand it! ||2||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੱਪ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਹੈ (ਉਮਰ ਤਾਂ ਲੰਮੀ ਹੈ,
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one's life is like that of a snake.
ਪਰ ਸੱਪ ਸਦਾ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੰਗ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੀ) ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮੌਕਾ ਬਣਨ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੰਗ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੧।
This is how the faithless cynic lives, forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਇਕ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਏ,
One who lives in meditative remembrance, even for an instant,
ਉਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਦਿਨ (ਜੀਊ ਲਿਆ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
lives for hundreds of thousands and millions of days, and becomes stable forever. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨੇ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੀ ਹਨ,
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one's actions and works are cursed.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੁੰਝ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਹੀਨ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ (ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ) ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Like the crow's beak, he dwells in manure. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਕੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one acts like a dog.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੇਸਵਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੱੁਤਰਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ (ਨਿਲੱਜ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਉ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
The faithless cynic is nameless, like the prostitute's son. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਰ ਹੀ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਛੱਤਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਗ ।
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one is like a horned ram.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੱੁਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ) ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The faithless cynic barks out his lies, and his face is blackened. ||4||
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਖੋਤੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ (ਮਲੀਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਖੋਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਆਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੇਟ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one is like a donkey.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਕੁਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਗੰਦੇ ਥਾਈਂ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੫।
The faithless cynic wanders around in polluted places. ||5||
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਉਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਹਲਕੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਭ ਦਾ ਹਲਕ ਚੰਬੋੜ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one is like a mad dog.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਰੁਪਏ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਭੀ) ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ ।੬।
The greedy, faithless cynic falls into entanglements. ||6||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੱੁਟਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਾ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, he murders his own soul.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਲ ਰੁਚੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਾਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੁਲ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤਿ ।੭।
The faithless cynic is wretched, without family or social standing. ||7||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਜੀਵ) ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ,
Remembering God, one does not have to enter into the womb again.
(ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਦੁਖ ਤੇ ਜਮ (ਦਾ ਡਰ) ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Remembering God, the pain of death is dispelled.
ਮੌਤ (ਦਾ ਭਉ) ਪਰੇ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Remembering God, death is eliminated.
(ਵਿਕਾਰ ਰੂਪੀ) ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਟਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Remembering God, one's enemies are repelled.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Remembering God, one remains awake and aware, night and day.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਕੋਈ) ਡਰ (ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ) ਦਬਾਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
Remembering God, one is not touched by fear.
(ਕੋਈ) ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Remembering God, one does not suffer sorrow.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਸਾਕਤ ਦੇ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਅੱਫਲ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Without the remembrance of the Lord, day and night pass in vain,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਰਖਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪੈਲੀ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
like the crop which withers without rain.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
Within his mind and body, he meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.
ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
He is kind to all creatures.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
God is totally imbued with all powers; He is the Knower of our troubles.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ (ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਈਏ ।੧।
Meditating in remembrance on Him, we are saved; Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਹੀ (ਰਾਸ-ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ।
My ears hear the Lord's Kirtan, and I contemplate Him; without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੰਸ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
As the swan cannot live without the lake, how can the Lord's slave live without serving Him? ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ।
Why center your consciousness on any other than the Lord?
ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਬੈਠਦਿਆਂ ਸੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਜਾਗਦਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Sitting down, standing up, sleeping and waking, forever and ever, meditate on the Lord. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਵਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Remembering Him in meditation, one abides in peace;
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ-ਸਾਂਦ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
one becomes happy, and suffering is ended. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਜੀਵ) ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੰੁਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Sexual desire, anger, and egotism lead to ruin.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Meditating on the Lord, the Lord's humble servants are redeemed. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਵੇਖ, ਜੀਵ (ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਟਣੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਲਦੇ ਹਨ
You may dress and eat and apply scented oils to your body,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੁਆਹ (ਸਮਾਨ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
but without the meditative remembrance of the Lord, your body shall surely turn to dust, and you shall have to depart. ||3||
ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਪੰਜੇ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਦੇ ਲਏ ਹਨ,
I have conquered those five demons, and trampled them underfoot.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਤਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।੨।
Remembering the Lord in meditation, my mind and body are drenched with His Love. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਵੇਖ, ਕੂੰਜ) ਉੱਡਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉੱਡ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਲ੍ਹਣੇ ਤੋਂ) ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਕੋਹ (ਦੂਰ) ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਇਕੱਲੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The flamingoes fly hundreds of miles, leaving their young ones behind.
(ਦੱਸ,) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ (ਚੋਗਾ) ਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕੌਣ ਚੋਗਾ ਚੁਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਕੂੰਜ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ! ਇਸ ਯਾਦ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਬੱਚੇ ਪਲਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੩।
Who feeds them, and who teaches them to feed themselves? Have you ever thought of this in your mind? ||3||
ਹੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ।
In our mother's womb, You blessed us with Your meditative remembrance, and You preserved us there.
(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਡੂੰਘੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਪਏ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ ।੧।
Through the countless waves of the ocean of fire, please, carry us across and save us, O Savior Lord! ||1||
(ਇਸ) ਆਪਣੇ (ਅਸਲ) ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਲਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ
Why are you so lazy in your own affairs?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਅਸਲ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ)
Remembering Him in meditation, your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord; you shall find peace, forever and ever. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਧ੍ਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਿਰਭੈਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ
Meditating on Him in remembrance, Dhroo became immortal, and obtained the state of fearlessness.
ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧
The Lord and Master removes suffering in this way - why have you forgotten Him? ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਝਗੜਾ-ਬਖੇੜਾ ਚਾਲੇ ਪਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
Wherever anyone remembers the Lord in meditation, disaster runs away from that place. By great good fortune, we meditate on the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ (ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੬।੧੨
The Guru has blessed servant Nanak with this understanding, that by meditating on the Lord, we cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||6||12||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਡੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
Meditating on Him in remembrance, I have found all treasures, respect, greatness and perfect honor.
ਪੂਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਾਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Remembering His Name, millions of sins are erased; all His devotees long for the dust of His feet. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I beg only from the Lord for all things.
ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੰਗਦਿਆਂ ਨਿਰੀ ਖੇਚਲ ਹੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ,) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਦਾਰਥ ਭੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ (ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I would hesitate to beg from other people. Remembering God in meditation, liberation is obtained. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਿਵਾਜ ਤੇ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ ।
All other rituals and customs are useless, without remembering the Lord in meditation.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੧੯।੫੦।
O Nanak, the fear of birth and death has been removed; meeting the Holy Saint, sorrow is dispelled. ||2||19||50||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸਿਮਰਨ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
Peace in this world, peace in the next world and peace forever, remembering Him in meditation. Chant forever the Name of the Lord of the Universe.
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਚਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The sins of past lives are erased, by joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; new life is infused into the dead. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਇਹ ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ (ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
O Holy people, this world is deluded by doubt.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਗਵਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
It has forsaken the meditative remembrance of the Lord's Name, and sold itself out to Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ । ਸਦਾ ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ।
Remember the Lord, remember the Lord, remember the Lord in meditation, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਜੀਵ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without remembering the Lord's Name in meditation, a great many are drowned. ||1||Pause||
(ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਜਸ ਭਰੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ
In my consciousness, I remember You in meditation; with my eyes, I behold You; I fill my ears with the Word of Your Bani, and Your Sublime Praise.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੌਰਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਚਰਨ-ਕਮਲ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖਾਂ, ਤੇ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੧।
My mind is the bumble bee; I enshrine Your feet within my heart, and with my tongue, I chant the Ambrosial Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I have come to Your Sanctuary, O Destroyer of the suffering of the innocent; I keep my consciousness focused on You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਂ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਡਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਨਿਰਭੈਤਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੨।੫।੯।
Bless me with the gifts of the state of fearlessness, and meditative remembrance, Lord and Master; O Nanak, God is the Breaker of bonds. ||2||5||9||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਨੀ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੱਪ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਉਮਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, life is like a burning fire, even if one lives long, like a snake.
ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
One may rule over the nine regions of the earth, but in the end, he shall have to depart, losing the game of life. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਨਿਭਾਗਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ
The Holy Saints preach the teachings of the Vedas, but the unfortunate fools do not understand them.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਰ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਭਲਵਾਨ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੭।੨੬।
Servant Nanak is absorbed in loving devotional worship; meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one's dirt is burnt away. ||2||7||26||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ
Meditating in remembrance on Him, fear cannot touch me.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੪।੧੧।੧੭।
Forever and ever, Nanak meditates on the Lord. ||4||11||17||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਇਉਂ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਹਲਕਿਆ) ਕੁੱਤਾ ।
The mortal does not remember the Lord in meditation; he wanders around intoxicated by egotism; he is engrossed in corruption like a dog.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਮਰ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੱਥੀਂ) ਵਧੀਕ ਲੁੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬੱਸ! ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Utterly cheated, his life is slipping away; committing sins, he is sinking away. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।
Meditating in remembrance, Naam Dayv has come to know the Lord.
ਜਗਤ-ਦੇ-ਆਸਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੨।੧।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਹਨ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Associating with them, this mind becomes immaculate and pure.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ) ਹੈ।
Associating with them, one meditates in remembrance on the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the Guru;
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਚਿਤਾਰਨ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ (ਤੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ) ।੮।੧।੨੯।
remembering Him in meditation, my honor has been saved. ||8||1||29||
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ (ਨਿਰਾਦਰੀ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚੀ ਸੀ, ਤੇ,
Contemplating the Lord, Dropadi was saved.
ਗੌਤਮ ਦੀ ਨੇਕ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਜੋ (ਗੌਤਮ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਨਾਲ) ਸਿਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਸੀ ।੩।
Gautam's wife, turned to stone, was saved. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ ।
Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, you shall be saved.
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ) ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
You shall be rid of the burden of countless incarnations. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈ ਕਿ
Such is the Perfect Divine Guru, my help and support.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਰਿ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Meditation on Him is not wasted. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਕਰ
O mind, take the sheltering support of the Lord's Name.
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Remembering Him in meditation, evil-mindedness is dispelled, and the state of Nirvaanaa is obtained. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Remembering Him in meditation, the door of liberation is found.
(ਉਸ ਰਸਤੇ) ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜੇਂਗਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰ (-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਟਕੇਂਗਾ);
You shall go to heaven, and not return to this earth.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ
Practice such meditative remembrance in your mind.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਜਿਹਾ (ਬਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without this meditative remembrance, liberation will never be found. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਣਗੇ,
Remembering Him in meditation, you will meet with no obstruction.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਚਿੰਤਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ),
Remember Him in meditation, celebrate and be happy.
ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਤੇਲ (ਵਾਲਾ ਦੀਵਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ,
God has placed His lamp deep within you, which burns without any oil.
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ,
Remembering Him in meditation, you shall obtain salvation.
ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਰੂਪ ਹਾਰ) ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖ,
Wear that meditative remembrance as your necklace.
(ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਗਲੋਂ) ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਨਾਹ ਰੱਖੀਂ, ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ,
Practice that meditative remembrance, and never let it go.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ,
Remembering Him in meditation, you shall not be obligated to others.
ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੌਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
You shall sleep in your mansion, in blankets of silk.
ਐਸਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਰੂਪ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।੫।
So drink in this meditative remembrance, night and day. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Remembering Him in meditation, your troubles will depart.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦੀ,
Remembering Him in meditation, Maya will not bother you.
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੋਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਬੋਝ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ,
Remembering Him in meditation, you shall not be loaded down.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾ ।
Make this meditative remembrance of the Lord's Name your Support.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮਨ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ), ਮੂਰਖ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੀ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Meditating on Him in remembrance, conflicts are ended.
ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
Meditating on Him, one's bonds are untied.
ਮੂਰਖ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੀ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Meditating on Him, the fool becomes wise.
ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ) ।੧।
Meditating on Him, one's ancestors are saved. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਤ ਦੇ ਕਿਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਰਨ ਨਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ
and did not destroy you, when you were an egg in your mother's ovary.
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਤਦੋਂ) ਆਪਣੇ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ।੨।
Blessing you with meditative remembrance upon Himself, He nurtured you and cherished you; He is the Master of all hearts. ||2||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
who remains awake in meditative remembrance, night and day.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ ।੧੦।
He delights and enjoys meditative remembrance on the Lord; he has no attachment to Maya. ||10||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਦੋਂ ਜਮ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁੰਞੇ ਪਟਕਾਇਆ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ (ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ) ਕੋਈ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਇਗੀ ।
When the Messenger of Death comes and grabs you by the hair, and knocks you down, on that day, you shall be powerless.
ਤੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਭਜਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਲਦਾ, ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ ।੨।
You do not remember the Lord, or vibrate upon Him in meditation, and you do not practice compassion; you shall be beaten on your face. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Meditating in remembrance on Him, sufferings are erased.
(ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ।੧।
Bliss wells up, and no disease is contracted. ||1||
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
He works all day long,
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਇਉਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
but when it is time to remember the Lord, then a heavy stone falls on his head. ||1||
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ (ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨੀ) ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਤਾਂਘ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ,
The mortal abandons meditative remembrance of the Lord, and then wishes for the state of supreme salvation;
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਸ ਉਤੇ) ਕੋਈ ਟਹਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਉੱਗ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।
but without roots, how can there be any branches? ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਸਮਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਏ ਉਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਮਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਢੁਕਵਾਂ ਹੈ,
Any time is a good time to meditate in remembrance on the Lord.
ਪਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Among the masses, only a few meditate in remembrance on the Lord.
ਸਤਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਕਾਲ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ, ਵੱਢ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।
With the army of God's devotees, and Shakti, the power of meditation, I have snapped the noose of the fear of death.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਕਬੀਰ ਹੁਣ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ (ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੈ), ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਲੈ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ ।੬।੯।੧੭।
Slave Kabeer has climbed to the top of the fortress; I have obtained the eternal, imperishable domain. ||6||9||17||
(ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
He chants the Lord's Name,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
and he has enshrined meditative remembrance of the Lord within his heart."||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ,
Remembering Him in meditation, there is no pain or suffering.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
Please, take pity on me, and lead me on to meet Him. ||1||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The mortal wanders in reincarnation through countless lifetimes.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, he falls into hell.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
The Guru, the Lord of the Universe, dwells within my mind.
(ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਨਗਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Wherever my Lord and Master is remembered in meditation - that village is filled with peace and bliss. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ, (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Without meditative remembrance on the Lord, one may live for millions of years, but his life would be totally useless.
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
But if he vibrates and meditates on the Lord of the Universe, for even a moment, then he shall live forever and ever. ||3||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਝੂਠ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ) ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
So abandon your sexual desire, greed, falsehood and slander; meditating in remembrance on the Lord, you shall be released from bondage.
ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ, ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿਣਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਬਜ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ—ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
The intoxication of loving attachments, egotism and blind possessiveness are eradicated by Guru's Grace. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ)
I am a sacrifice to that occasion.
(ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ), ਤੇ, ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate in remembrance on my God; by great good fortune, I have found the Lord. ||1||Pause||
(ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
The True Guru fulfills the mind's desires.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
All wealth and treasures are obtained by remembering Him in meditation; twenty-four hours a day, O my mind, meditate on Him. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ,
Meditate in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the One Lord.
ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਦਾਨ ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ (ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
In this way, the sins of your past mistakes shall be burnt off in an instant. It is like giving millions in charity, and bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨੀ, (ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਨਾ—ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
This is the way of life of the Holy Saint: he listens to the Kirtan, the Praises of his Lord and Master, and meditates in remembrance on Him.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He implants the Lord's Lotus Feet deep within his heart; worship of the Lord is the support of his breath of life. ||1||
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ? ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Administering the intoxicating drug, God Himself leads the mortals astray; they are reincarnated again and again.
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
He does not meditate in remembrance on the Lord, even for an instant, and so the Messenger of Death makes him suffer. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Remembering Him in meditation, the sins go away.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਸਦਾ) ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।
I fall at the Feet of that Guru. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
I am forever a sacrifice to that Guru;
ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
I meditate in remembrance on the Lord, through the Guru. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ (ਤਾਂ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ, ਪਰ ਕਦੇ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ।
You obtained this human life, but you have not remembered the Lord in meditation, even for an instant.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਬੇੜੀ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
For the sake of pleasure, you have become subservient to your woman, and now your feet are bound. ||1||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ ਉਤੇ ਰਾਮ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ—ਇਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, my rosary is my tongue, upon which the Lord's Name is strung.
ਜਦ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਬਣੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਗਤ (ਇਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ) । ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਲਈ) ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ (ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ) ਹੈ ।੧।
From the very beginning, and throughout the ages, all the devotees abide in tranquil peace. ||1||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡਣ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਨਿਰਾ ਟੱਬਰ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Kabeer, you have given up meditating on the Lord, and you have raised a large family.
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਧੰੰਧੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਕੋਈ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਬਚਾਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੧੦੬।
You continue to involve yourself in worldly affairs, but none of your brothers and relatives remain. ||106||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ, ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਸਾਣ ਜਗਾਣ ਲਈ (ਮਸਾਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ) ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, those who give up meditation on the Lord, and get up at night to wake the spirits of the dead,
ਸੱਪਣੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਜੰਮਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਬੱਚੇ ਖਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧੦੭।
shall be reincarnated as snakes, and eat their own offspring. ||107||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ!ਰਾਮ-ਨਾਮ ਛੱਡਣ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਮੂਰਖ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੀਤਲਾ ਦੀ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, the woman who gives up meditation on the Lord, and observes the ritual fast of Ahoi,
ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਖੋਤੀ ਦੀ ਜੂਨੇ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਹੋਰ ਖੋਤੇ ਖੋਤੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਛੱਟਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਚਾਰ ਮਣ ਭਾਰ ਢੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧੦੮।
shall be reincarnated as a donkey, to carry heavy burdens. ||108||
ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਟੱਬਰ (ਅੱਖਾਂ, ਕੰਨ, ਨੱਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਟੋਲਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਡੁੱਬ ਗਿਆ ਜਾਣੋ ।
My family is drowned, O Kabeer, since the birth of my son Kamaal.
ਜੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਅਜੇਹੀ (ਨੀਵੀਂ) ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਆ ਅੱਪੜਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਵਸਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧੧੫।
He has given up meditating on the Lord, in order to bring home wealth. ||115||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
Kabeer, whoever meditates in remembrance on the Lord, he alone is happy in this world.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨੦੬।
One who is protected and saved by the Creator Lord, shall never waver, here or hereafter. ||206||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਗ਼ਾਫਲ ਮਨ! (ਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿਮਰ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ, ਭਰਮ-ਰੂਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਠਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਤੂੰ) ਕਿੱਧਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
O my unconscious mind, contemplate and remember Him in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. Why are you wandering around, enticed by the darkness of doubt?
ਮਹੂਰਤ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ, ਘੜੀ ਭਰ, ਚਸਾ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਂ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਹੀ ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ।
Remember Him in meditation, for an hour, for a moment, even for an instant. Chant the Name of the Lord with your tongue.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮਝ ।
That person, who meditates in remembrance on the Lord in his heart, is liberated - know this well.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਠੀਕ ਮੰਨ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ।੪੩।
There is no difference between that person and the Lord: O Nanak, accept this as the Truth. ||43||
