ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਥ ਆਪ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੈ,ਇਹ) ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਖੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਹਨ।
He Himself is the Supreme Master of all; wealth and miraculous spiritual powers, and all other external tastes and pleasures, are all like beads on a string.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ “ਸੰਜੋਗ” ਸੱਤਾ ਤੇ “ਵਿਜੋਗ” ਸੱਤਾ ਦੋਵੇਂ (ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਚਲਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਲੇਖ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਦਰਜਾ-ਬ-ਦਰਜਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦੇ) ਛਾਂਦੇ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ
Union with Him, and separation from Him, come by His Will. We come to receive what is written in our destiny.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਭਾਗ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਹੈ, ਖਿੱਚ ਹੈ ।
The servants of the Lord have the greatest good fortune; they have faith in the Lord, and a longing for the Lord.
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਲੇ) ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Obtaining the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, they are satisfied; joining the Sangat, the Blessed Congregation, their virtues shine forth. ||2||
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Night and day, they perform devotional worship, day and night; subduing their ego, they are carefree.
ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
By great good fortune, I found the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; I have found the Lord, with intuitive ease and ecstasy. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ
Whoever has found it, has done so in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Through perfect good fortune, such balanced detachment is attained.
ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ (ਬਾਹਰ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਅਦਿਕ ਵਿਚ) ਤੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ) ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ (ਦੀ ਮੈਲ) ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed manmukhs wander around lost, but they do not know the True Guru. They are inwardly attached to egotism.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Each and every moment, dwell on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukhs obtain it.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਦੀ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ) (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੧।
The Treasure of the Naam is inexhaustible. By great good fortune, it is obtained. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
By perfect good fortune, one meets the True Guru, when one's destiny is awakened.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Suffering and doubt are cut out from within, and peace is obtained.
ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through perfect good fortune, the Naam comes to abide within the mind. Through the Shabad, we merge into Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੭।੫੦।
O Nanak, one who lives in intuitive peace and poise, imbued with the Lord's Love, obtains the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||17||50||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਮਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ
By His Grace, we meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Without His Mercy, it cannot be obtained.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੰੂ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Through perfect good destiny, one finds the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and one comes to meet the True Guru.
ਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਓ ! ਆਓ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੋ, ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿਉ
Come and meet with me, my sister soul-brides, and unite me with my Husband.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ‑ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
She who meets the True Guru, by perfect good fortune, finds her Husband; she is absorbed in the True One. ||3||
ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ (ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਸਾਡੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ, ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੈ
Without destiny, the True Guru is not found, even though He sits within the home of our own inner being, always near and close at hand.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ (ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ) ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
There is ignorance within, and the pain of doubt, like a separating screen.
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੈ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਤਾਂਘਦਾ ਹੈ
Everyone, all over the world, longs for the True Guru.
ਪਰ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ) । (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜ ਕੇ) ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ‑ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹ
Without the good fortune of destiny, the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is not obtained. The unfortunate ones just sit and cry.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮੈਂ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼
Grant me their company, God-I am a beggar; this is my prayer.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਗੁਰੂੁ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੱੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਚਾਨਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੩੩।੩੧।੬।੭੦।
O Nanak, great is the good fortune of those Gurmukhs, who are filled with the Light of the Naam within. ||4||33||31||6||70||
(ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਹੋਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀਲੇ ਤੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ
Give up all your schemes and your clever mental tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪੂਰਬਲਾ) ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
He alone receives the Jewel, upon whose forehead such wondrous destiny is written. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜੋ ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜਾਨਾ (ਹੈ) ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉੇਤੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਉੱਘੜ ਪਏ
Those who have such blessed destiny written on their foreheads meditate on the Treasure of the Naam.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ (ਭੀ) ਸੰਵਰ ਜਾਣਗੇ
All their affairs are brought to fruition, holding onto the Guru's Feet.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
By great good fortune, the Name is obtained. Following the Guru's Teachings, through the Shabad, you shall be exalted.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੱੁਖ) ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
God, the Creator Himself, dwells within the mind; remain absorbed in the state of intuitive balance. ||3||
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ ? ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
You Yourself, Lord, have led it astray.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਆਤਮਕ) ਦੁੱਖ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੬।
The discarded soul-brides suffer in terrible agony; they have no luck at all. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
and egotism is driven out from within.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੧।
The pain of evil-mindedness is eliminated; good fortune comes and shines radiantly from their foreheads. ||11||
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ
The Master's Name is Priceless; no one knows its value.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ (ਜਾਗਣ), ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Those who have good destiny recorded upon their foreheads, O Nanak, enjoy the Love of the Lord. ||1||
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਤੇ (ਪਹਿਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੋ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੇ) ਲਿਖਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਹੁਣ ਭੀ) ਵੈਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand anything. They do what they are pre-ordained to do.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਖ-ਦਾਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
Through perfect destiny, they meet the True Guru, the Giver of peace, and the Naam comes to abide in the mind.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਿਆਰਿਓ ! ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣੋ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰੋ)
O Saints of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny, listen, and hear the Lord's Teachings, through the True Guru.
ਇਸ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰੋ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵੇ
Those who have good destiny pre-ordained and inscribed on their foreheads, grasp it and keep it enshrined in the heart.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉੱਤਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ) ਬਣ ਜਾਏ
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; as Gurmukh, declare your love.
ਧੁਰ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੩।
One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead by the True Lord, chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||13||
ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
By good fortune, I have met the Saint Guru.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ) ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
I have found the Immortal Lord within the home of my own self.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਣ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
That mortal who is blessed by perfect destiny meets the Lord, the Sustainer of the Universe, in the Company of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਘਰ-ਬਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪੦।੪੭।
O Nanak, if the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells within the mind, one is approved and accepted, whether he is a house-holder or a renunciate. ||4||40||47||
ਪਰ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ,
The Siddhas and the seekers lack it; they weep and wail.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ, ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Without serving the True Guru, peace is not obtained; through perfect destiny, the Guru is found. ||3||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through perfect destiny, the Shabad is enshrined in the mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੯।੧੦।
O Nanak, the greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained by chanting the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||8||9||10||
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Word of the Shabad eradicates egotism and possessiveness.
(ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ (ਭੀ) ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
So serve the Dear True Lord, night and day. By perfect good destiny, the Guru is found. ||6||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਹੈ) ।
The nine treasures of the Naam come to dwell within their minds.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
By perfect destiny, they find the True Guru, and through the Word of the Shabad, they are united in the Lord's Union. ||5||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਣਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
As He pleases, He applies us to our tasks.
ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਵਡ‑ਭਾਗੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Through perfect destiny, we serve the Guru; serving the Guru, peace is found. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The genuine article is not found, and the cycle of reincarnation does not end.
(ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੱਜਰ ਕਵਾੜ ਖੋਹਲਣ ਲਈ) ਕੁੰਜੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਵਸੀਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਦਾ । ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
The key is in the hands of the True Guru; no one else can open this door. By perfect destiny, He is met. ||7||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone meditates on the Lord of the World, whom the Lord has made His Own.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਦਾਤਿ ਦਾ) ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ, ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ) ਸੂਰਮਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
He alone is a warrior, and he alone is the chosen one, upon whose forehead good destiny is recorded. ||5||
ਜੇ ਐਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਵੱਸੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨਸਕ) ਦੁੱਖ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Those who do not remember God-how much pain must they suffer!
(ਪਰ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ (ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੜਾ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who dwell upon their God have great good fortune.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ) ਆਨੰਦ (ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ) ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ।
Meeting Him in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, celestial bliss is enjoyed.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਠ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਾਲਕ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
In the month of Jayt'h, the playful Husband Lord meets her, upon whose forehead such good destiny is recorded. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through perfect good destiny, we come to meet the Guru.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The true ones are intuitively absorbed in the True Lord. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਦਾਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
For the sake of the Lord, Har, Har, I have sold my body to the Perfect Guru.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
The True Guru, the Giver, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me. A very blessed and fortunate destiny is recorded upon my forehead. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੋ,
O Dear Saints, sing the Glorious Praises of my Lord God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
As Gurmukh, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O very fortunate ones.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
By great good fortune, I found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ।੧।
I have fallen in love with the Supreme Lord God. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਉਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਉਕਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਮਝੋ, ਜਿਸ ਅਕਲ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Perfect is that intellect, by which the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung.
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਅਕਲ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
By great good fortune, one finds the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ
Says Nanak, those who have perfect destiny
ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਹੀ) ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪੯।੧੧੮।
- their minds are attached to the Naam. ||4||49||118||
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ । ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗੇ ।
He alone obtains it, upon whose forehead such destiny is written.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ।੪।੫੭।੧੨੬।
Says Nanak, fall at the Feet of that Lord. ||4||57||126||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਦਾ ।
Without the Naam, no one's face shows good fortune.
ਖਸਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ) ਸੁਹਾਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
Without the Husband, where is the marriage? ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Says Nanak, their good fortune is perfect,
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੯੦।੧੫੯।
if they enshrine the Lord's Feet within their minds. ||4||90||159||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ (ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Says Nanak, one whose destiny is perfect,
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖਸਮ (ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।੧੦੬।
meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the Everlasting Husband. ||2||106||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਤਾਕਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
You are the Doer, the Cause of causes - You are everything. You are All-powerful; there is no other than You.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ—ਇਹ ਭੇਦ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦੇ) ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
You alone know Your condition and extent. They alone become Your servants, upon whose foreheads such good destiny is recorded. ||1||
(ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ) ਹੋਰ ਜਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ
He is not obtained by any other efforts.
(ਪਰ) ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
By great good fortune, meditate on the Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ! ਹੇ (ਇਥੇ) ਪਰਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨ! (ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਵਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ । ਕਦੇ ਸੋਚ ਕਿ ਉਸ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ (ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਮਾਂ (ਵਾਂਗ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
O my wandering mind, you are like a camel - how will you meet the Lord, your Mother?
(ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਆ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
When I found the Guru, by the destiny of perfect good fortune, my Beloved came and embraced me. ||1||
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ!) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
Serving the Guru, one is committed to the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਣ ।
It is received only by those who have such good destiny inscribed upon their foreheads.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਉਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
As the Lord attaches someone, so is he attached.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੬।
He alone is the Lord's servant, O Nanak, who is so blessed. ||8||6||
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਕਹਣ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ, ਪਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਸਮਝਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਡੰਗਰ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ (ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ) ।
Those who have come into the world without understanding are like animals and beasts.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਣ ।੧।
O Nanak, those who become Gurmukh understand; upon their foreheads is such pre-ordained destiny. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਉੱਘੜੇ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
By Guru's Grace, one who has such good destiny written on his forehead remembers the Lord in meditation.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਗ (ਖਸਮਾਨਾ) ਨਸੀਬ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ ।੧੯।
O Nanak, blessed and fruitful is the coming of those who obtain the Beloved Lord as their Husband. ||19||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦਲੀਲ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਛੱਡ ।
O mind, grasp the Support of the Holy Saint; give up your clever arguments.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੇਖ (ਉਘੜਿਆ ਸਮਝੋ) ।੧।
One who has the Guru's Teachings within his mind, O Nanak, has good destiny inscribed upon his forehead. ||1||
