(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ

In the midst of this world, do seva,

ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਣ ਨੂੰ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ

and you shall be given a place of honor in the Court of the Lord.

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਤਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ

People serve the True Guru only when the fever of egotism has been eradicated.

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੮।੭੮।

Nanak has met the Guru; all his sufferings have come to an end. ||4||8||78||

ਜੋ ਸੇਵਕ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿਸੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ,

One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward,

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।

shall attain his Lord and Master.

ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚਿੱਤ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਫਲ ਲਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ;

Service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding, if one performs it with his mind focused on it.

ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਿਆ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;

The fruits of the mind's desires are obtained, and egotism departs from within.
