ਹਰੀ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਮੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਣਕ ਲਾਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਹੀਰੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਕਿਲੇ੍ਹ ਹਨ
The Palace of the Lord God is so beautiful. Within it, there are gems, rubies, pearls and flawless diamonds. A fortress of gold surrounds this Source of Nectar.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ (ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ) ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
There is ignorance within, and the pain of doubt, like a separating screen.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਲੋਹਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ-ਬੇੜੀ ਉਸ ਮਨਮੁਖ-ਲੋਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Without meeting with the True Guru, no one is transformed into gold. The self-willed manmukh sinks like iron, while the boat is very close. ||3||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਕਿਲੇ੍ਹ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਾਂ, ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਤੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਾਂ
If I made a donation of castles of gold, and gave lots of fine horses and wondrous elephants in charity,
ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਾਂ, ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗਾਂਈਆਂ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਾਂ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ (ਸਗੋਂ ਇਸ ਦਾਨ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਾਣ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
and if I made donations of land and cows-even then, pride and ego would still be within me.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤਾਉ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਸੋਨੇ (ਨੂੰ ਕੱਸ ਲਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ-ਕਮਾਈ ਦੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਸ ਲਾਈਦੀ ਤੇ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Their bodies become golden, and take on the color of spirituality.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰਾਫ਼ (-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਫੇਰ ਤਪਾਣ (ਭਾਵ ਹੋਰ ਘਾਲਾਂ) ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ।
If the Jeweller casts His Glance of Grace, they are not placed in the fire again.
ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਸੋਨੇ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
The soul of the man is lured by gold and women; emotional attachment to Maya is so sweet to him.
ਘਰ, ਪੱਕੇ ਮਹਲ ਘੋੜੇ (ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਉ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
The mind has become attached to the pleasures of houses, palaces, horses and other enjoyments.
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਰਗ ਅਤੇ ਨਰਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Heaven and hell, ambrosial nectar and poison, gold and copper - these are all alike to them.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਭੀ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹਨ (ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰੇ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ—ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਹਨ), ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਮੋਹ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
Praise and slander are all the same to them, as are greed and attachment. ||2||
ਵਧੀਆ ਹਾਥੀ, ਵਧੀਆ ਘੋੜੇ, ਸੋਨਾ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ—(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ) ਜੂਏ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ,
Elephants, horses, gold, children and spouses
(ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
- in the anxious affairs of all these, people lose the game and depart.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In an instant, the Lord's Name erases his sinful mistakes, and his body becomes pure.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਸਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਲੋਹੇ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ (ਵਰਗਾ ਨਕਾਰਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, through the Lord's Name, emancipation is obtained, and the slag iron is transformed into gold. ||1||
ਜਿਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਰੋਆ ਜਿਸਮ ਹੈ,
By His Grace, you have a healthy, golden body;
ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਵ ਜੋੜ ।
attune yourself to that Loving Lord.
ਸੋਨਾ ਸਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਲ ਕੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਦਿੱਤਿਆਂ ਰੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ
He cannot be obtained by offering your weight in gold.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੁੱਲ ਵਜੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੱਬ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
But I have bought the Lord by giving my mind to Him. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸੁੱਧ) ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਨਿਰਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੀ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
His body becomes golden, by the Lord's Incomparable Light.
ਜੋ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਕਾਰ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ (ਸਰਗੁਣ) ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ,
He beholds the divine beauty in all the three worlds.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਗੰਦੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
I am lowly, filthy, and totally egotistical; I am attached to the corruption of duality.
ਪਾਰਸ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
But meeting with the Guru, the Philosopher's Stone, I am transformed into gold; I am blended with the Pure Light of the Infinite Lord. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦੇ ।
Those who place their faith in the Lord's Name, do not attach their consciousness to another.
ਜੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖ ਦੇਈਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ।
Even if the entire earth were to be transformed into gold, and given to them, without the Naam, they love nothing else.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਕਸਵੱਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਘਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸੁੱਧ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The Lord applied His touch-stone to my mind, and found it one hundred per cent gold.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਲਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤਰੋ-ਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਤਰੋ-ਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
As Gurmukh, I am dyed in the deep red of the poppy, and my mind and body are drenched with His Love.
ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Within the walled fortress of my golden body, the Lord, Har, Har, is revealed.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰਾ (ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਠੋਰ) ਮਨ (ਮੇਰਾ ਕਠੋਰ) ਹਿਰਦਾ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਨਰਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ) ।
The Lord, Har, Har, is a jewel, a diamond; my mind and body are pierced through.
ਇਹ ਚੰਗੇ-ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, discriminating understanding is attained.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੋਹ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਲੋਹਾ ਭੀ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
That iron which touches the Philosopher's Stone becomes gold. ||3||
(ਕਿਸੇ ਦਰੀਆ ਤੋਂ) ਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਭੀ (ਹੌਸਲਾ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਲੰਘਣ ਦਾ ਹੀਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ; ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ-ਦਿਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Seeing the youths being carried across, the hearts of the beautiful young soul-brides are encouraged.
ਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰ! ਵੇਖ) ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਲ ਲੱਗ) ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਆਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੀਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੪।
Those who side with the glitter of gold, are cut down with a saw. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ।
Through His Kindness, the Kind Lord pervades us; through Guru's Teachings, our wanderings cease.
ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਲੋਹਾ ਆਦਿਕ) ਧਾਤ ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਹੈ ।੬।
Touching the philosopher's stone, metal is transformed into gold. Such is the glorious greatness of the Society of the Saints. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੋਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ
He Himself is the Philosopher's Stone, He Himself is the metal, and He Himself is transformed into gold.
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
He Himself is the Lord and Master, He Himself is the servant, and He Himself is the Destroyer of sins.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ । ਸੋ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨੈਣ ਬਾਂਕੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦੰਦ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨੱਕ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੰਮੇ ਕੇਸ ਹਨ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਨੱਕ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੰਮੇ ਕੇਸ ਹਨ
Your nose is so graceful, and Your hair is so long.
ਇਹ ਭੀ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਨੱਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਕੇਸ ਹਨ) । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਅਰੋਗ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਡੌਲ ਹੈ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਸੋਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਢਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Your body is so precious, cast in gold.
। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ,
Human life is obtained only by the most virtuous actions; this body is radiant and golden.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਰੰਗ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The Gurmukh is imbued with the deep red color of the poppy; he is imbued with the new color of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, Har.
ਉਹ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ (-ਘੋੜੀ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਹੈ
The golden body is saddled with the saddle of gold.
(ਬਹੁਤ ਕੀਮਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਜੜ ਕੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਕਾਠੀ ਪਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਕਾਠੀ ਪਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।
It is adorned with the jewel of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself.
(ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Doubt and Maya have been removed from within me, and I am merged in the Naam, the True Name of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I fall at the feet of those who enshrine the Naam within their consciousness.
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਸਰੀਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself. ||2||
ਜੋ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੈ
That body is golden and immaculate, which is attached to the True Name of the True Lord.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ (ਰੂਪ) ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The Gurmukh obtains the Pure Light of the Luminous Lord, and his doubts and fears run away.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਘਬਰਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ
That man, who in the midst of pain, does not feel pain,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਤੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੋਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ (ਸਮਾਨ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
who is not affected by pleasure, affection or fear, and who looks alike upon gold and dust;||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰਸ-ਗੁਰੂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਹੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
I have been transformed from rusty iron into gold, O Siblings of Destiny, united in Union with the Guru, the Philosopher's Stone.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩
Eliminating my self-conceit, the Name has come to dwell within my mind, O Siblings of Destiny; my light has merged in the Light. ||3||
ਰਾਜੇ ਧਨ ਜੋੜ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਮਰ ਗੰਵਾ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੋਨੇ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਦੇ ਢੇਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ) ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਦੱਬ ਰੱਖੇ
The kings die, gathering and hoarding their money, burying great quantities of gold.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ ਵੇਦ-ਪਾਠੀ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਖਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ (ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਤੱਕਣ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਬਿਤਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।੩।
The Pandits die, reading and reciting the Vedas; women die, gazing at their own beauty. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਤੀਜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸੁਅੱਛ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੋਹ ਕੇ (ਲੋਹਾ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Touching the philosopher's stone, I have been transformed into gold.
ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਪਰੋਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
I have threaded the jewels into my mouth and mind.
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੰਗਾਲ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸੋਧਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The rust of poison and corruption from countless incarnations sticks to us; joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, it is cleaned away.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਤਪਾਇਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
It is just like gold, which is heated in the fire, to remove the impurities from it. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਲੋਹਾ ਹਾਂ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਕਾਠ ਹਾਂ
The Lord is the philosopher's stone, which transforms lead into gold, and sandalwood, while I am just dry wood and iron.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਹੇ ਤੋਂ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਾਠ ਤੋਂ) ਚੰਦਨ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Associating with the Lord, and the Sat Sangat, the Lord's True Congregation, the Lord has transformed me into gold and sandalwood. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਪਰਾਈ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਲੋਹਾ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ
One who does not slander or praise others, who looks upon gold and iron alike,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਖ ।੧।
who is free from pleasure and pain - he alone is called a true Yogi. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਵੇਖੋ!) ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਆ ਵੜੀ) ਇਸ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।
This golden-colored body has been disfigured and ruined by egotism.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਰੀ ਕਾਲਖ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਇਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਕਾਲਖ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਜੋੜ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Attachment to Maya is total darkness; this foolish, self-willed manmukh is attached to it.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੱਚ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ, ਸੋਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਣਾ, ਸੱਚੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ—(ਇਹ ਹਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ) ।
You purchase glass, and discard gold; you are in love with your enemy, while you renounce your true friend.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਕੌੜਾ ਲੱਗਣਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਣਾ (—ਇਹ ਹੈ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ । ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੱਝਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੧।
That which exists, seems bitter; that which does not exist, seems sweet to you. Engrossed in corruption, you are burning away. ||1||
(ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Guilty mistakes are erased, and the sinful intellect is cleansed.
(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੬।
One's body sparkles like gold, and one's light merges into the Light. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who eliminates his self-centeredness, and eradicates his ego, night and day sings the songs of the Lord's Love.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਿਟਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
The Gurmukh is inspired, his body is golden, and his light merges into the Light of the Fearless Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ (ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਰਾਣ ਲਈ ਲੁੱਟਣ ਲਈ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਚੋਰ ਡਾਕੂ ਆ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਲੁਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The fortress of the body is overflowing with gold and jewels; when it is awakened by spiritual wisdom, one enshrines love for the essence of reality.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਡਾਕੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਫੜ ਕੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
The thieves and robbers hide out in the body; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are arrested and locked up. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ—ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਜਗਤ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
Only the Creator Lord Himself knows the state and condition of everyone; the Lord Himself makes all the arrangements.
(ਉਸ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੁੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਜੋ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਲੇਖ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਟਾਇਆਂ ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦ
One who meets the True Guru is transformed into gold. Whatever is pre-ordained, is not erased by erasing. ||3||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੁੱਧ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧੮।
Imbued with the Shabad, the body becomes golden, and loves only the True Name. ||18||
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੯।
The body is then filled to overflowing with Ambrosial Nectar, obtained by contemplating the Shabad. ||19||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ-ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਪਏ, ਉਹ ਨਕਾਰੇ ਸੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਹੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Dhadha: If the dust of their feet touches one's face and forehead, he is transformed from iron into gold.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੋਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਰੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਜਨਮ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ
Blessed is the Support of the Earth; He Himself is not born; His measure and speech are perfect and True.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੋਹਾਗਾ (ਕੁਠਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਏ) ਸੋਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਰਮ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਬਲ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Unfulfilled sexual desire and unresolved anger waste the body away,
ਉਹ (ਢਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਸੋਨਾ (ਕੁਠਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸੇਕ ਸਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
as gold is dissolved by borax.
ਕਈ ਥਾਈਂ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਲਾ ਰਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖੀਏ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਜ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਅੱਗੇ ਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Mixed and mingled with others, he was passed off as genuine in many places; but now, the veil has been lifted, and he stands naked before all.
(ਅਜੇਹਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਭੀ) ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਸੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਹੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who comes to the Sanctuary of the True Guru, shall be transformed from iron into gold.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ!) ਜੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਦਾਨ ਕਰੀਏ, ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾਨ ਕਰੀਏ, ਸੇਜ ਦਾਨ ਕਰੀਏ, ਵਹੁਟੀ ਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ, ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ; ਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ (ਕੋਈ ਨ ਕੋਈ) ਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੀ ਰਹੀਏ;
Someone may give away horses and elephants, or women on their beds, or land; he may give such gifts over and over again.
ਜੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਭੇਟ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ; ਜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਤੋਲ ਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਦਾਨ ਕਰੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ।੩।
He may purify his soul, and give away in charity his body weight in gold; none of these is equal to the worship of the Lord's Name. ||3||
ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੜ੍ਹੀਦਾ (ਭੀ) ਹੈ, ਸੁਣੀਦਾ (ਭੀ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰੀਦਾ (ਭੀ) ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪਰ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੀ ਗੰਢ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ} ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ; (ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਵੇ ਭੀ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ? ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ, ਮਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਛੋਹ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦੀ, ਤੇ)
They read and reflect upon all the Names of God; they listen, but they do not see the Lord, the embodiment of love and intuition.
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਲੋਹਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹੇ ਨਾਹ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਇਹ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਸੋਨਾ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ।੧।
How can iron be transformed into gold, unless it touches the Philosopher's Stone? ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਘ ਦੀ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਂਦ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਗ-ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਦਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਰਵੱਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੁ-ਫਾੜ ਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਗਿਆ,
One may give donations in charity at Prayaag, and cut the body in two at Benares,
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁਕਤੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ) ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਭੀ ਥੋੜਾ ਥੋੜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ ।੨।
but without the Lord's Name, no one attains liberation, even though one may give away huge amounts of gold. ||2||
ਪਰ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਨਿਕੰਮਾ ਲੋਹਾ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
What was turned to slag is again transformed into gold, if one meets with the Guru.
ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਰੀਰ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੪।੩।
He blesses the mortal with the Ambrosial Name of the One Lord, and then, O Nanak, the body is held steady. ||4||3||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤਪਦੇ ਰੇਤ-ਥਲੇ (ਵਰਗੇ ਸੜਦੇ ਦਿਲ) ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨੂਰ (ਵਰਗੇ ਮਨ) ਤੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ (ਸੁੱਧ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He transforms the burning desert into a cool oasis; he transmutes rusted iron into gold.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੧।
So praise the True Lord; there is none other as great as He is. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਖਲਜਗਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਲੋਹਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਉਂ ਸੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਲੋਹਾ),
Chasing after worldly affairs, the mind has become corroded and rusty.
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ (ਸੁੱਧ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
But meeting with the Perfect Guru, it is transmuted into gold once again.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਇਕ) ਬੂੰਦ ਪੈ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ (ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼) ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ) ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ।
When the drop of water falls upon it, it crumbles and dissolves instantaneously.
ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਸੁੱਧ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
But the body of the Gurmukh, who understands, is like gold; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells deep within. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਆਗੂ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The body becomes golden, with the Word of the Shabad as its spouse.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Night and day, enjoy the enjoyments, and be in love with the Lord.
ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ ।
The body is the infinite fortress of gold;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,
it is permeated by the Infinite Word of the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਸਕਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, the body becomes golden.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord abides there; He has no end or limitation.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਵੰਨੀ ਦੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਖਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
When the gold is made one hundred percent pure,
ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ (ਸੋਹਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਰਾਫ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
its color is true to the jeweller's eye.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੌਤਕ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਸੁਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
I have tasted the sublime essence of the Lord's Name; the Lord's Name carries everyone across.
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਆਖ— ਉਹ ਸੁੱਧ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੪।੩।
Says Kabeer, I have become like gold; doubt is dispelled, and I have crossed over the world-ocean. ||4||3||
ਜਿਸ ਰਾਵਣ ਨੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਬਣਾਏ (ਦੱਸੀਏ ਹਨ), ਉਹ ਭੀ (ਉਹ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਇਥੇ ਹੀ) ਛੱਡ ਗਿਆ ।੧।
Raawan made castles and fortresses of gold, but he had to abandon them when he left. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਉਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਨ-ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
Why do you act only to please your mind?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੈ ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਲੋਹਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੋਹਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Guru is the Philosopher's Stone; by His touch, iron is transformed into gold.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ-ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My light merges into the Light, and my body-fortress is so beautiful.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦ ਕਰਨੀ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਐਬ ਫਰੋਲਣੇ—ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਕੰਮ ਮਾੜੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who ignore both praise and slander, who reject egotistical pride and conceit,
(ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਭੀ) ਛੱਡ ਦਿਉ (ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ) ਆਦਰ (ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਕੋਈ) ਆਕੜ (ਵਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੋਹੇ ਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ । {ਸੋਨਾ—ਆਦਰ । ਲੋਹਾ—ਨਿਰਾਦਰੀ} ।੧।
who look alike upon iron and gold - they are the very image of the Lord God. ||1||
ਤਾਂਬਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੋਹ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਟਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Coming into contact with the philosophers' stone, copper is transformed;
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
that copper is transformed into gold. ||3||
(ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਚੌਂਕਾ (ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੇ), ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਭਾਂਡੇ (ਵਰਤੇ), (ਚੌਂਕੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਚਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ)
The kitchen is golden, and the cooking pots are golden.
ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਕੀਰਾਂ (ਪਾਏ) (ਤੇ ਸੁੱਚ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਇਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਈ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ (ਖਿਲਾਰੇ);
The lines marking the cooking square are silver.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੋਹਿਆਂ ਲੋਹਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Iron is transformed into gold, when it touches the Philosopher's Stone.
(ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ (ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਛੁਹ ਨਾਲ) ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
O Nanak, meeting with the True Guru, the Name is obtained. Meeting Him, the mortal meditates on the Name.
ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਭੀ ਨਰੋਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The mortal's body is golden, and the soul-swan is immaculate and pure,
(ਹੇ ਵੈਦ!) ਜਿਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ (ਲਿਸ਼ਕਾਰਾ ਮਾਰਦੀ) ਹੈ,
if even a tiny particle of the Immaculate Naam is within.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ।
If it is in his karma, then he finds the True Guru; without such karma, He cannot be found.
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸ਼ੁੱਧ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ ।੧।
He meets the True Guru, and he is transformed into gold, if it is the Lord's Will. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਚਿਤਵਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ) ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
Collecting the poison of Maya, people think of all sorts of evil. But peace is found only by vibrating and meditating on the Lord; with the Saints, in the Sangat, the Society of the Saints, meet the True Guru, the Holy Guru.
। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਲੋਹਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ, ਸੁੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Just as when the iron slag is transmuted into gold by touching the Philosopher's Stone - when the sinner joins the Sangat, he becomes pure, through the Guru's Teachings. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ) ਸੱਤ ਟਾਪੂਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ (ਜੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪੁੱਟ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਰਾ) ਸੋਨਾ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ (ਬਾਹਰ) ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ,
If all the gold of the seven continents and the oceans was taken out and placed before them,
(ਤਾਂ ਭੀ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ (ਸੋਨਾ ਆਦਿਕ) ਇਹਨਾਂ (ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੋੜਦੇ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੬।
the humble servants of my Lord and Master would not even want it. They beg for the Lord to bless them with the Lord's Sublime Essence. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ) ਰਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਰਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Sublime Essence of the Lord's Name is the source of nectar and bliss; drinking in this Sublime Essence, following the Guru's Teachings, I have become happy.
ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਲੋਹਾ (ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ) ਸੋਨਾ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਰੱਬੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
Even iron slag is transformed into gold, joining the Lord's Congregation. Through the Guru, the Lord's Light is enshrined within the heart. ||2||
(ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਨ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਧਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
His love for his children and gold steadily increases.
(ਜਗਤ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਇਹ) ਓਪਰਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He sees everything as his own, but he does not own the One Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ।
Contemplating the Shabad, peace is obtained, loving the True Name.
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ-) ਹਰਿ-ਮੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ, (ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਮੰਦਰ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ) ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ।੪।
The Temple of the Lord is embellished with the Shabad; it is an Infinite Fortress of God. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਲੁਟਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-) ਹਰਿ-ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਹਾ (ਹੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ ।
The mind is like iron slag, within the Temple of the Lord; it is lured by the love of duality.
(ਪਰ, ਹਾਂ) ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪਾਰਸ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ (ਤਾਂ ਲੋਹੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਿਕੰਮਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਸੋਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਇਤਨੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧੦।
Meeting with the Guru, the Philosopher's Stone, the mind is transformed into gold. Its value cannot be described. ||10||
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਾਮ!) ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਲੋਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।
You, O Lord, are the Philosopher's Stone, and I am iron; associating with You, I am transformed into gold.
ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਰਤਨ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਲਾਲ ਹੈਂ । ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮਾ ਤੈਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।੩।੨।
You are Merciful; You are the gem and the jewel. Naam Dayv is absorbed in the Truth. ||3||2||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਜੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ‘ਵਾਲੇ’ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ‘ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੜੇ ਹੋਣ,
Kabeer, earrings made of gold and studded with jewels,
ਪਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਕੁੰਡਲ ਸੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਨਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
look like burnt twigs, if the Name is not in the mind. ||4||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਮਾਲਾ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੈਸ਼ਨਵ ਭਗਤ ਅਖਵਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੱਟਿਆ ।
Kabeer, what good is it to become a devotee of Vishnu, and wear four malas?
ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਵੇੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਸੋਨਾ ਦਿਸੇ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੋਟ ਹੀ ਖੋਟ ਹੈ ।੧੪੫।
On the outside, he may look like pure gold, but on the inside, he is stuffed with dust. ||145||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੱਚ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Glass is transformed into gold, listening to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਿਹੁ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Poison is transformed into ambrosial nectar, speaking the Name of the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਛੋਹ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸੁਆਦਲੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ; ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ; (ਤਾਂ ਤੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ ।
And, the Guru makes us fragrant and fruitful, and His Touch transforms us into gold. The filth of evil-mindedness is washed away, meditating on the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਚਸ਼ਮੇ ਜਾਰੀ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਰੂਪ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਤ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Stream of Ambrosial Nectar flows constantly from His Door. The Saints and Sikhs bathe in the immaculate pool of the Guru's spiritual wisdom.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਚੁੱਭੀ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸੁੱਧ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋਤਿ-ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
After their cleansing bath in the hours before the dawn, they worship the Guru with their minds pure and clear.
ਪਾਰਸ-ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਕੰਚਨ (ਵਤ ਸੁੱਧ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Touching the Philosopher's Stone, their bodies are transformed into gold. They focus their meditation on the Embodiment of Divine Light.
ਹੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ! ਤੂੰ (ਕਦੇ) ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਹਰਾ ਹੀ ਹਰਾ ਸੈਂ, (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲੇ (ਚਮਕਦੇ) ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ (ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ) ।
O lotus, your leaves were green, and your blossoms were gold.
ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਨੁਕਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ? ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ?ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਕਾਲਖ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪਾਣੀ ਵਲੋਂ) ਟੋਟ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।
What pain has burnt you, and made your body black? O Nanak, my body is battered.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਦੇ ਮਨ) ਨੂੰ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ (ਡੁਲਾ ਸਕਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ (ਡੁਲਾ ਸਕਦੀ), ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਹਾ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ (ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਭਾਵ, ਜੋ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸਦਾ),
One who is beyond praise and slander, who looks upon gold and iron alike
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸੁਣ, ਇਹ ਗੱਲ (ਪੱਕ) ਜਾਣ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ ।੧੪।
- says Nanak, listen, mind: know that such a person is liberated. ||14||
