ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪੰਡਿਤ (ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read the scriptures, but they are trapped in the bondage of emotional attachment. In love with evil, they do not understand.
ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ) ਖਿੱਝ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆਂ) (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Meeting the Guru, the bondage of the three qualities is cut away, and in the fourth state, the Door of Liberation is attained. ||2||
(ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ । ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ) ਪਾਗਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Without the True Guru, the self-willed manmukhs do not find liberation; they wander around like lunatics.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਦੀ ਕਦਰ) ਨੰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ । ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਪਿਆ ਕਰੇ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
They do not contemplate the Shabad; engrossed in corruption, they utter only empty words. ||3||
ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Surrendering our minds to our Guru, we find universal love.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਔਗੁਣ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ।੧।
We find the wealth of liberation, and our demerits are erased. ||1||
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਲਬਾ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ
The three worlds are permeated by Maya; they are totally covered by it.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਵਿਤਕਰਾ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੫।
Without the Guru, liberation is not attained, and the double-mindedness of Maya does not go away. ||5||
ਪੰਡਿਤ (ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਨਿਰੀ) ਚਰਚਾ (ਹੀ) ਕਰਦੇ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹ ਭੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read and argue and stir up controversies, but without the Guru, they are deluded by doubt.
(ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
They wander around the cycle of 8.4 million reincarnations; without the Shabad, they do not attain liberation.
(ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਝੇ ਰਹੇ ਉਹ) ਚੌਰਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ
People continue wandering through the cycle of 8.4 million incarnations; without the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ (ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ, ਮੋਨ-ਧਾਰੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਗੋਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ
Reading and studying, the Pandits and the silent sages have grown weary, but attached to the love of duality, they have lost their honor.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ
Without the Lord's Name, liberation is not obtained, and you are drowned in the love of duality.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਜੀਵ ! (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ) ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਹਰ ਵਿਚ (ਤੂੰ ਬੇ-ਪਰਵਾਹ ਹੈਂ), ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚੇਂਗਾ ।੧।
Says Nanak, in the first watch of the night, O mortal, you shall be saved by remembering the Lord. ||1||
(ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਮੱੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ) ਜੀਵ ਪੰਛੀ (ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ੳੱੁਡ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਦੇਹ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ, ਵਿਹੜੇ ਵਿਚ, ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ।
Your light has gone out, and the bird of your mind has flown away; you are no longer welcome in your own home and courtyard.
ਬੇਣੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ ! (ਜੇ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਹੀ ਹਾਲ ਰਿਹਾ, ਭਾਵ ਜੀਊਂਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮੁਕਤ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਇਆ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਸੱਚ ਜਾਣੋ ਕਿ) ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।੫।
Says Baynee, listen, O devotee: who has ever attained liberation after such a death? ||5||
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਪਸੰਦ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Bound by duality, they come and go in reincarnation.
(ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਾ ਸਕਦਾ । (ਇਸ ਲੇਖ ਤੋਂ) ਉਹੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
No one can erase pre-recorded destiny; the Gurmukhs are liberated. ||5||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who drinks in this Nectar, shall have his delusions dispelled.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By Guru's Grace, the state of liberation is attained.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਹੀ ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ ।
To the Gurmukh, the True Lord is wealth, miraculous spiritual powers and strict self-discipline.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Through the spiritual wisdom of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Gurmukh is liberated.
(ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੋਰ (ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।
They perform all sorts of rituals, but they do not obtain liberation through them.
ਜੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਟਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They wander around the countryside, and in love with duality, they are ruined.
ਉਹ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ (ਅੰਦਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਕੁੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He yearns for the three-phased Maya.
ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਟੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The bonds of the three-phased Maya are broken by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. Through the Guru's Shabad, liberation is achieved. ||3||
ਪਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕਿਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਜੀਵ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ,
But without the Guru, they do not understand their true significance.
ਇਹ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The treasure of liberation is obtained through devotional worship of the Lord. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through devotional worship of the Lord, liberation and bliss are obtained.
ਇਹ ਉੱਚੇ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Through the Guru's Teachings, supreme ecstasy is obtained. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਟਿਕਵੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Through the Guru, we intuitively contemplate the True One.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ (ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ) ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Through the Guru, the Gate of Liberation is found. ||1||
ਇਸ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੁਕਰਮ-ਦਸ਼ਾ) ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਮ-ਧਰਮ ਛੁਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
This Dark Age was born in the house of evil.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੪।੧੦।੩੦।
O Nanak, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, no one is liberated. ||4||10||30||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those who recognize the self - their minds become pure.
ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They become Jivan-mukta, liberated while yet alive, and they find the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ) ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ ।
Inwardly and outwardly, God is always with them, and yet, they do not enshrine Love for Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਤੁਸੀ ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿਲੀ) ਸਮਝੋ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੬।
O Nanak, know that those whose hearts are filled with the Lord are liberated. ||2||6||
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!) ਤੁਸੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝੋ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ) ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
They are not bound by pleasure and pain - know that they are truly wise.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ, ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿਲੀ) ਮੰਨੋ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੩।੭।
O Nanak, recognize those mortal beings as liberated, who live this way of life. ||3||7||
(ਹੇ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕੇਂਗਾ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਗਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ? ਇਹੀ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰ ਲੈ ।
You shall not obtain this human body again; make the effort - try to achieve liberation!
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਤਰਸ-ਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ।੨।੯।੨੫੧।
Says Nanak, sing of the Lord of compassion, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||9||251||
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹ
Praise, beauty and liberation are in the One Name.
ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ।
In it, the Immaculate Lord is permeating and pervading.
ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।
You are false - without the One, there is no liberation.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਖੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Creator created the creation, and He watches over it. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ (ਜੋਗੀ) ਹੈ ।
Those who live a spiritual lifestyle - they alone are true.
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ।੧।
What can the false know about the secrets of liberation? ||1||
ਨਿੱਤ ਦੇਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I have seen the world being destroyed by greed and egotism.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Only by serving the Guru is God obtained, and the true gate of liberation found. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ) ਕੋਈ ਧਿਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ ।
You may study and examine the Shaastras and the Simritees,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੬।
but without the Name, no one is liberated. ||6||
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ!) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਦੰਭ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।
Without serving the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ (ਘਟ ਘਟ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By Guru's Grace, one meets the Lord.
ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੱੁਟਦੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।
Their bonds are not broken, and they do not obtain liberation.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ ।੧।
The True Guru is the Bestower of liberation in this age. ||1||
ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠਦਾ, ਇਹ ਚੰਚਲਤਾ ਇਹ ਚਲਾਕੀ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, (ਇਹ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ) ਭਿਆਨਕ (ਖੂਹ) ਵਿਚ (ਸੱੁਟ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ) ।
O camel-like mind, you are so fickle; give up your cleverness and corruption.
(ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
Dwell upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; at the very last moment, the Lord shall liberate you. ||6||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਭਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਲੱਭਣੀ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੈ ।
From the Word, comes the way of liberation from fear and doubt.
(ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਕਰਨਯੋਗ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਨੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਿਯਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ—ਇਹ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੱਸ਼ ਹੈ ।
From the Word, come religious rituals, karma, sacredness and Dharma.
ਭਗਤ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਟਕਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਹੈ,
The Name of the Lord is the path of liberation for His humble servants.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਭੋਗਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
With the food of the Name of the Lord, His servants are satisfied.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ;
Through devotion to the Lord, many have been liberated.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ (ਭੀ) ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੭।
O Nanak, along with His servants, many others are saved. ||7||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ (ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
The God-conscious being is the Giver of the way of liberation of the soul.
ਉਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੇ ਕਾਦਰ ਹੈ ।
The God-conscious being is the Perfect Supreme Being, who orchestrates all.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who, in his soul, loves the Will of God,
ਉਹੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
is said to be Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive.
ਜੋ (ਰਜ਼ਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਵਰਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ (ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਗਾਡੀ-ਰਾਹ ਹੈ;
Whatever God ordains, that is his way.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
O Nanak, that being is known as Jivan Mukta. ||7||
ਜੇ ਨੰਗੇ ਫਿਰਦਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
If Yoga could be obtained by wandering around naked,
ਤਾਂ ਜੰਗਲ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
then all the deer of the forest would be liberated. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਸੱਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹ
Through the True Word of the Shabad, the state of liberation is obtained.
ਤੇ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਦਾ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੩।
O Nanak, self-conceit is eradicated from within. ||4||13||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ (ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
The Guru's system is the way to liberation.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The True Lord Himself comes to dwell in the mind. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਖੇਂ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ । (ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
As You keep me, Lord, I live; the Lord's Name is my only Support.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਤਕ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਥੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
It is my only comfort in the end; the gate of salvation is found by His humble servants. ||7||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦਾ ਗਾਹਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
One who is a buyer of the Lord's Name, finds it, and obtains the jewel of contemplation.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਜੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਦ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣਾ) ਹਿਰਦਾ ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ ।੨।
He opens the doors deep within, and through the Eyes of Divine Vision, beholds the treasure of liberation. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਏਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।
Haha: Understand the Lord's Sermon, you fool; only then shall you attain eternal peace.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਲੇਖੇ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਤਨੀ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਸ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦੀ ।੧੬।
The more the self-willed manmukhs read, the more pain they suffer. Without the True Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||16||
ਹੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹ) ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ ।
You bestow Your gifts, even when we do not ask for them, O Great Giver; devotion to You is a treasure over-flowing.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਲੱਭ ਲੋਭ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ।੪।੨।
Without the Lord's Name, there is no liberation; so says Nanak, the meek. ||4||2||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।
If one does not appreciate the value of good deeds and Dharmic faith, how can one obtain clarity of consciousness and liberation?
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਇਹੀ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes the Word of the Shabad; night and day, he meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਸਖੀ!) ਪੰਡਿਤ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ, ਮੋਨ-ਧਾਰੀ (ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾ ਲਾ ਕੇ) (ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਧੂ) ਭੇਖ ਧਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ।
Reading and studying continually, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the silent sages have grown weary; wearing religious robes, liberation is not obtained.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਝੱਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
O Nanak, without devotional worship, the world has gone insane; through the True Word of the Shabad, one meets the Lord. ||3||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਛੋਹ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who die, and remain dead while yet alive, are said to be Jivan Mukta, liberated while yet alive.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ (-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
O Lord, unite servant Nanak with the True Guru, that he may cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੀ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਦੀ ਚਾਰ-ਦੀਵਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਕਦੇ ਮੂਰਖ (ਗਿਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ (ਪਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਏ ਤੇ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸਿਆਣਾ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਹੱਦ-ਬੰਦੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਹੱਦਬੰਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ, ਭਾਵ)
In ego they are ignorant, and in ego they are wise.
ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ ।
They do not know the value of salvation and liberation.
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਸੁਣੋ, ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਲੋਕੋ!
Says Kabeer, listen, people:
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ) ।੫।੮।੨੧।
without the Lord's Name, no one is liberated. ||5||8||21||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਗਈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ-ਮਿੱਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ;
The Guru has given the wealth of spiritual wisdom; practicing meditation, the mind becomes one with Him.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੀ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣ ਗਈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੱਜ ਗਿਆ, ਤੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋੰ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੩।
Embracing loving devotional worship for the Lord, I have come to know peace; satisfied and satiated, I have been liberated. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
It is so difficult to obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord, in this age; only the Gurmukh obtains it.
ਤੇ, ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਾਹ ਮਿਲੇ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦੀ, ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਧਿਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਉਪਾਉ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਨਿਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ ।੧।
Without the Name, no one is liberated; let anyone make other efforts, and see. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ, ਸਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ, ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਸਾਂ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਇਕੋ ਗੱਲ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
I have searched all the Shaastras, the Vedas and the Simritees, and they all affirm one thing:
ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀ ਭੀ ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ (ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ) ।੨।
without the Guru, no one obtains liberation; see, and reflect upon this in your mind. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ (ਸੁਚੱਜੀ) ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak has obtained understanding; singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is his only support.
(ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਨਾਮਦੇਵ, ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ, ਕਬੀਰ, ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਚਮਾਰ—ਹਰੇਕ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ।੨।੧।੧੦।
The Lord's servants, Naam Dayv, Trilochan, Kabeer and Ravi Daas the shoe-maker have been liberated. ||2||1||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਮਾਇਕ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਵਸੀਲਾ (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ
The all-powerful Lord is the Creator, the Cause of causes; He is the Master of wealth - I seek His Sanctuary.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲਈ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਲਖਮੀ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਹੈ ।੨।੧੭।੨੧।
Liberation and worldly success come from the dust of the feet of the Holy Saints; Nanak has obtained the Lord's treasure. ||2||17||26||
ਇਸ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ (ਸਰੀਰ-) ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜ ਚੋਰ ਵੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਵਰਜਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਇਸ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਚੁਰਾਣ ਲਈ ਉੱਠ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the one village of the body, live the five thieves; they have been warned, but they still go out stealing.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਬਚਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
One who keeps his assets safe from the three modes and the ten passions, O Nanak, attains liberation and emancipation. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਉਹੀ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
By Guru's Grace, I eliminate my self-conceit.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਰਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨੱਚਿਆਂ ਟੱਪਿਆਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਬਣ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਅਡੋਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ (ਦਾ ਆਸਵੰਦ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
One who keeps his consciousness focused on the Lord is liberated; he obtains the fruits of his desires. ||1||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ (ਪਾਣ) ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਇਤਨਾ ਸੁੰਗੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰਾਈ ਦੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਦਸਵਾਂ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ
O Kabeer, the gate of liberation is narrow, less than one-tenth of a mustard seed.
ਪਰ (ਅਸਾਡਾ) ਮਨ (ਹਉਮੈ ਨਾਲ) ਮਸਤ ਹਾਥੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ?
The mind has become as big as an elephant; how can it pass through this gate?
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਅਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ
If one meets such a True Guru, by His Pleasure, He shows His Mercy.
ਤਾਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਬੜਾ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੌਖੇ ਹੀ ਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Then, the gate of liberation becomes wide open, and the soul easily passes through. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ ਲੰਘਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।
O Nanak, the gate of liberation is very narrow; only the very tiny can pass through.
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਮਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਟਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ (ਨਿੱਕੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ) ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ?
Through egotism, the mind has become bloated. How can it pass through?
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਰਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ, (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।
I do not seek power, and I do not seek liberation. My mind is in love with Your Lotus Feet.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਲੋਕ ਤਾਂ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਜੋਗੀ, ਰਿਸ਼ੀ, ਮੁਨੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ (ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਹੀ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Brahma, Shiva, the Siddhas, the silent sages and Indra - I seek only the Blessed Vision of my Lord and Master's Darshan. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਪਹੰੁਚ ਹੈ, ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਉਸ ਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੰੁਚ ਸਕਦੀ; ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।
He is the most unfathomable of the unfathomable; who can chant His Praises? My mind lives by hearing news of Him.
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਚੌਹਾਂ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਮਾਂ, ਚੌਹਾਂ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
People in the four stages of life, and in the four social classes are liberated, by serving You, Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਸਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਨਸਾ (ਨਾਲ ਬੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Hope and desire abide in this body, but the Lord's Light shines within as well.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ (ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਦੀ) ਰੋਕ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਸ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੩।
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs remain in bondage; the Gurmukhs are liberated. ||4||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ) ਤਾਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Everyone can chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har with their mouths, but only a few enshrine it within their hearts.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੮।੨।
O Nanak, those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts, attain liberation and emancipation. ||8||2||
ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ (ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ (ਰੂਪ) ਰਤਨ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Deep within me is the Guru's Wisdom, the Lord's jewel, the Bringer of liberation.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
O Nanak, one who is blessed by the Lord's Glance of Grace obtains this, and is judged to be True in the Court of the Lord. ||2||
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
All the living beings of the world behold the True Guru.
(ਪਰ) ਨਿਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਜਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਜੀਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ
One is not liberated by merely seeing Him, unless one contemplates the Word of His Shabad.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ।
I have died in the Word of the Shabad, and through the Shabad, I am dead while yet alive, O Siblings of Destiny; through the Shabad, I have been liberated.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through the Shabad, my mind and body have been purified, and the Lord has come to dwell within my mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ (ਅਜੇ ਤਕ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ, ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ।
You do not know the way to liberation, but you run all around chasing wealth.
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ । ਤੂੰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਜਕੜ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ
In the end, nothing shall go along with you; you have entrapped yourself in vain. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਡਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ
The Messenger of Death cannot touch Your devotees; death cannot even approach them.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The Name of the Lord alone abides in their minds; through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they find liberation.
ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ (ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
His bonds are broken, and he is liberated; he remains absorbed in the True Lord.
ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੁਰਲੱਭ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
It is so difficult to obtain the Naam in this world; it comes to dwell in the mind of the Gurmukh.
(ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਲੋਕ) ਅਸ਼ਟਾਧਿਆਈ ਆਦਿਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਰਚ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਬੱਸ! ਇਤਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਮੰਨੀ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ) ।
They analyze eight chapters of (Panini's) grammar and the Puraanas. They study the Vedas,
ਪਰ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਧਰਮ-ਕਰਮ ਹੈ)
but without the Lord's Name, no one is liberated; so says Nanak, the Lord's slave. ||4||1||6||8||
, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਕਰਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
They alone obtain the treasure of Liberation,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
who are lovingly imbued with, and focused on the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤ ਜਨ (ਭੀ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Vedas, the Simritees, the Shaastras and the Lord's devotees contemplate Him;
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
liberation is attained in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣੋ
Listen, O Dear Beloved Saints, to my prayer.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without the Lord, no one is liberated. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੀ ।
Remembering, remembering God, his Lord and Master in meditation, the Messenger of Death does not approach him.
ਸੇਵਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ । (ਇਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ (ਪਾਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ) ਹੈ ।੧।
Liberation and heaven are found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; his humble servant finds the home of the Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਹ ਸਦਾ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨ ਦਸੀਂ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
The restless mind wanders in the ten directions - it needs to be pacified and restrained.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਮਝ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੨।੩।
Says Nanak, whoever knows this technique is judged to be liberated. ||2||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਉਹ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He obtains the treasure of liberation, and enjoys the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ ।੨।
His comings and goings end, and the Guru protects him. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਹਿਮ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਉਠ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਦੌੜਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।
I have been trying to liberate myself, running around in the ten directions.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ।੨।
The pure, immaculate Lord abides deep within my heart, but I do not understand the secret of His mystery. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ (ਹਿੰਦੂ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਪੁਸਤਕ) (ਕੁਰਾਨ ਅੰਜੀਲ ਆਦਿਕ) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ (ਸ਼ਾਮੀ ਮਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਨਿਰੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।
One may read all the books of the Vedas, the Bible, the Simritees and the Shaastras, but they will not bring liberation.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਭਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
One who, as Gurmukh, chants the One Word, acquires a spotlessly pure reputation. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।
Meeting the True Guru, she finds the Lord; without the Lord's Name, there is no liberation.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, the soul-bride ravishes and enjoys her Husband Lord; her mind accepts Him, and she finds peace. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰਜੇਵਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
Intoxicated with the wine of Maya, satisfaction never comes.
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਰਜੇਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ।੧।
Satisfaction and liberation come, only to one whose mind is pleasing to the True Lord. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, no one finds release.
ਪਖੰਡ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਬਣਾਇਆਂ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ।੨।
Practicing hypocrisy, no one finds liberation. ||2||
ਕੋਈ ਪੰਛੀ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ,
He is like the bird, imprisoned in a cage;
ਉਹ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਰਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ) ਪਿਆ ਭਟਕੇ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਦੀ) ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
he paces back and forth behind the bars, but he is not released.
ਅਜੇਹਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ) ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ
How rare are those who contemplate this spiritual wisdom.
ਉਸ (ਸਰਬ-ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Through this, the supreme state of liberation is attained. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਚਹੁੰਆਂ ਹੀ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।
In all four ages, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is glory and greatness.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖੋ ਕਿ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
One who holds tight to the Naam is liberated; without the Guru, no one obtains the Naam. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਕੱਚ ਦੀ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
You make ear-rings of glass to wear in your ears.
ਪਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ।
But liberation does not come from learning without understanding.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Remaining awake and aware night and day, lovingly focused on the Lord,
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।
one becomes Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive. He finds this state deep within himself. ||4||
ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਫਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ,
Subduing your pride, you shall receive the supreme wealth of God.
ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਜੀਵਨ ਰਥ ਦਾ) ਰਥਵਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The mortal is liberated and emancipated, meditating on the Lord. ||3||
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਤੂੰ (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਉਹ ਵੀਣਾ ਵਜਾਇਆ ਕਰ ਜੋ (ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ) ਬਿਨਾ ਵਜਾਇਆਂ ਵੱਜਦੀ ਹੈ ।
So play the harp which vibrates without being played, Yogi.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਵੀਣਾ ਵਜਾਏਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ (ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ) ਹੋ ਜਾਹਿਂਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ ।੧੨।੧।
Says Nanak, thus you shall be liberated, Yogi, and remain merged in the True Lord. ||12||1||10||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
O Saints, the Gurmukhs attain the state of liberation.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਵਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The One Name abides deep within my heart; such is the glorious greatness of the Perfect Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਮੋੜ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।
One who turns away from the Guru, and becomes baymukh - without the True Guru, he shall not find liberation.
ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛ ਲਵੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਇਕ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।
He shall not find liberation anywhere else either; go and ask the wise ones about this.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।
He shall wander through countless incarnations; without the True Guru, he shall not find liberation.
ਆਖ਼ਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਾਰਗ ਦਾ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
But liberation is attained, when one is attached to the feet of the True Guru, chanting the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।੨੨।
Says Nanak, contemplate this and see, that without the True Guru, there is no liberation. ||22||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਧਰਮ ਅਰਥ ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਖ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ ।
Righteous faith, wealth, sexual success and salvation; the Lord bestows these four blessings.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
One who has such pre-ordained destiny upon his forehead, O Nanak, has all his desires fulfilled. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ!) ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ (ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਰਤੱਬ ਬਣਾ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Living a righteous lifestyle, true peace is found.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧੫।
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone find liberation? ||15||
ਕਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਚੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।
I have had so many gurus and disciples.
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਦ ਤਕ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਜਦ ਤਕ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
Through a false guru, liberation is not found.
(ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹ
When the Lord dwells in the consciousness, and one is absorbed in the Lord's Name,
ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਕ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੀ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨੩।
one is liberated, and returns home with honor. ||23||
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ!) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਪਰਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ
Only one who looks alike upon sunshine and shade
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਕ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੈ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
has his bonds shattered; he is liberated and returns home.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛੀ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਵਸ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Like a fish, he is caught in the noose of death.
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ! ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਸ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ (ਭੀ) ਨਾਹ ਲੱਭ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ) ।
Do not seek liberation from anyone else, except the Guru, the Great Giver.
(ਹੇ ਚਰਪਟ! ਦੇਸ-ਦੇਸਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ) ਭੌਣ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ? ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ;
What is the use of wandering around? Purity comes only through Truth.
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (“ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਾਗਰ ਦੁਤਰ ਤੋਂ”) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without the True Word of the Shabad, no one finds liberation. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
The Gurmukh attains the unseen and infinite Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨੮।
O Nanak, the Gurmukh finds the door of liberation. ||28||
ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The supreme peace of liberation is attained, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ (ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਦੇ) ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ,
The Gurmukh is never defeated.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ,
Without serving the True Guru, Yoga is not attained;
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦੀ ।
without meeting the True Guru, no one is liberated.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ‘ਨਾਮ’ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (‘ਨਾਮ’ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਜੋਗ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The Name is obtained only from the True Guru, O hermit, and then, the Way of Yoga is found.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ, ‘ਨਾਮ’ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ਾਤੀ ਤਜਰਬਾ ਦੱਸ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ) ।੭੨)
Reflect upon this in your mind, and see; O Nanak, without the Name, there is no liberation. ||72||
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਜਿਊਂਦਿਆਂ (ਜਗਤ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ‘ਜੀਵਨ-ਮੁਕਤੀ’ (ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋਵੇ?
Everyone can say that they are dead while yet alive; how can they be liberated while yet alive?
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਚਸਕਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਹੁ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (-ਰੂਪ) ਦਵਾਈ ਵਰਤੇ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦਾ ਪਰਹੇਜ਼ ਬਣਾਏ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਡਰ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਲੁਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ)
If someone restrains himself through the Fear of God, and takes the medicine of the Love of God,
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Remembering Him in meditation, the door of liberation is found.
(ਉਸ ਰਸਤੇ) ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜੇਂਗਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰ (-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਟਕੇਂਗਾ);
You shall go to heaven, and not return to this earth.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ
Practice such meditative remembrance in your mind.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਜਿਹਾ (ਬਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without this meditative remembrance, liberation will never be found. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਣਗੇ,
Remembering Him in meditation, you will meet with no obstruction.
ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਅਜ਼ਾਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
You will be liberated, and the great load will be taken away.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਤੇ ਹੌਲੇ ਮੇਲ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ।
I am low, and I commit evil actions; I have not remembered my Sovereign Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ।੨।
The Lord has led me to meet the True Guru; in an instant, He liberated me from bondage. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਘ ਦੀ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਂਦ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਗ-ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਦਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਰਵੱਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੁ-ਫਾੜ ਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਗਿਆ,
One may give donations in charity at Prayaag, and cut the body in two at Benares,
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁਕਤੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ) ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਭੀ ਥੋੜਾ ਥੋੜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ ।੨।
but without the Lord's Name, no one attains liberation, even though one may give away huge amounts of gold. ||2||
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ) ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ,
This way of liberation is my treasure.
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਨ,
O Merciful God, please bless me with this gift.
(ਪਰ ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰਾ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਤਨੀ ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਜਿਤਨੀਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ) ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤ ਕਰਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ (ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂਗਾ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਜੈ-ਜੈਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ।
I have been untrue to myself, but Nanak is Your slave; please forgive him, by Your glorious greatness.
ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ।੪।੬।
Since the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, You have been the merciful and generous Lord. Without You, liberation cannot be attained. ||4||6||
(ਵੇਖ) ਵੇਸੁਆ ਦਾ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਜਾਮਲ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ‘ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਨਰਹਰੀ’ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ।
Ajaamal, who had sex with prostitites, was saved, by chanting the Name of the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਣ ਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ।੩।
Chanting the Naam, Ugar Sain obtained salvation; his bonds were broken, and he was liberated. ||3||
