ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਆਏ ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ! (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ) ਚੌਥੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਇੱਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਨ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ਲੈ (ਹੀ) ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
In the fourth watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord announces the time of departure.
ਹੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਵੋ, (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ
Serve the Perfect True Guru, O my merchant friend; your entire life-night is passing away.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ (ਮੰਨਣਾ)—ਇਹੀ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ (ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ
Meditation, penance and austere self-discipline are found by surrendering to the True Guru's Will. By His Grace this is received.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ) ਜੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੇ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਸੇਵਾ ਭੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ
O Nanak, serve with this intuitive awareness; only that which is pleasing to the Lord is approved. ||2||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ
Walking on the Lord's Path, my doubts have all been cast out.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਾਨਸਿਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
The True Guru has inspired me to hear the Treasure of the Naam; all my illness has been dispelled. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By His Mercy, we meet the True Guru.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Center your awareness on seva-selfless service-and focus your consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.
(ਜਿੱਥੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਜਾਈਏ) ਜੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਖੁਲ੍ਹੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ (ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਛੱਪੜ ਵਿਚ ਨ੍ਹਾਤਿਆਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਮੈਲ ਵਧਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Bathing in a pool of holy water, they are washed clean of filth. But, by bathing in a stagnant pond, they are contaminated with even more filth.
(ਇਹੀ ਨੇਮ ਸਮਝੋ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਧੋਣ ਲਈ), ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਖੁਲ੍ਹੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ,
The True Guru is the Perfect Pool of Holy Water. Night and day, He meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Granting His Grace, He leads us to meet the True Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Remembering the One Name, doubt is cast out from within.
ਰਾਜਾ ਕਈ ਵਾਰੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ੁਨਾਮੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕੈਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ (ਕੋਈ ਜੁਰਮਾਨਾ ਆਦਿਕ) ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਾਂ, ਰਾਜਾ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।
But the king either imprisons them, or fines them, or else dies himself.
ਪਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਯੋਗ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Blessed, rewarding and fruitful is the service of the True Guru; through it, I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and I have found peace. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਸਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਰਹਿਣਾ)
The True Guru has shown me that there is only one pleasure.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
Whatever the Lord does, is pleasing to the Lord's devotee.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ) ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
The Lord has saved me; I have met the True Guru.
(ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਪੱਕੀ ਟਿਕਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਟਿਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He has implanted devotional worship of the Lord's Name, night and day. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਇਹ) ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Those who serve the True Guru are blessed with fruitful rewards.
(ਕਿ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ (ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides in their hearts; selfishness and conceit depart from within them.
(ਪਰ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ
Those Gurmukhs who worship and adore the Lord - hail to those Saintly beings!
ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰਾਂ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ)
If someone slanders the Perfect True Guru, he will be rebuked and reproached by the whole world.
ਪੂਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਇਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਘਟਾਇਆਂ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਘਟਦੀ ।
By His Pleasure, the Lord has bestowed this upon the Perfect True Guru; it is not diminished one bit by anyone's efforts.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅੰਗ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਪਈ ਝਖਾਂ ਮਾਰੇ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ)
The True Lord and Master is on the side of the True Guru; and so, all those who oppose Him waste away to death in anger, envy and conflict.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਫਿਟਕਾਰੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹੁਣ (ਫਿਰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ)
Those who were cursed by the Perfect True Guru, from the very beginning, are even now cursed by the True Guru.
ਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲਣ ਲਈ ਬਥੇਰੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਭੀ ਕਰੀਏ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ) ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ
Even though they may have a great longing to associate with the Guru, the Creator does not allow it.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਚੌਥੇ ਥਾਂ ਬੈਠੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਥਾਪਿਆ, ਸੋ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਫਿਟੇਵੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਏ) ।
The Guru of the fourth generation saved all these slanderers and evil-doers.
ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਸਿੱਖ, ਜੋ ਕੋਈ (ਭੀ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ
If any son or Sikh serves the True Guru, then all of his affairs will be resolved.
(ਮੁਕਦੀ ਗੱਲ), ਜਿਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਨ
All treasures are in the True Guru, who has enshrined the Lord within the heart.
ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪੀ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
He alone obtains the Perfect True Guru, on whose forehead such blessed destiny is pre-ordained.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ (ਅਜੇਹਾ ਇਹ) ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਧੀਰਜ ਆ ਗਈ
When I see the Perfect True Guru, then deep within, my mind is comforted and consoled.
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਤੇ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru; I am devoted and dedicated to Him, forever and ever.
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ
The glorious greatness of the Guru, the True Guru, is pleasing to the GurSikh's mind.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪੈਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਿਨੋ ਦਿਨ ਵਧਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The Lord preserves the honor of the True Guru, which increases day by day.
(ਜੀਵ-ਰੂਪੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਗਉੜੀ ਰਾਗਣੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਏ;
Gauree Raga is auspicious, if, through it, one comes to think of his Lord and Master.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰੇ—ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰੇ
He should walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru; this should be his decoration.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੜ ਜਾਏ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਤਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੂਜੇ ਮੌਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)
If someone separates himself from the True Guru, his face is blackened, and he is destroyed by the Messenger of Death.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ—ਸਭ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ।
He shall find no shelter, here or hereafter; the GurSikhs have realized this in their minds.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ
That humble being who meets the True Guru is saved; he cherishes the Naam, the Name of the Lord, in his heart.
(ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਪੁੱਤਰੋ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Servant Nanak says: O GurSikhs, O my sons, meditate on the Lord; only the Lord shall save you. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਲ ਹੈ
No one can equal the True Guru; the Creator Lord is on His side.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਖੜਗ ਤੇ ਸੰਜੋਅ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਾਲ (-ਰੂਪ) ਕੰਡੇ ਨੂੰ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਪਰੇ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ
Devotional worship of the Lord is the sword and armor of the True Guru; He has killed and cast out Death, the torturer.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਨਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord Himself is the Protector of the True Guru. The Lord saves all those who follow in the footsteps of the True Guru.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ
One who thinks evil of the Perfect True Guru - the Creator Lord Himself destroys him.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
When someone meets the Perfect True Guru, then His Sublime Presence comes to be seen.
ਜੋ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪਾ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।੨੩।
Those Gurmukhs who praise the True Lord - all their hunger is gone. ||23||
(ਪਤੀਜ ਕੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Sikhs listen to the Teachings imparted by the True Guru.
(ਫੇਰ) ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਸਿਦਕ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਅੱਗੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਚੌਣੀ ਰੰਗਣ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Those who surrender to the True Guru's Will are imbued with the four-fold Love of the Lord.
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਨ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
By His Pleasure, the True Guru has blessed me with the inexhaustible wealth of the Name of the True Lord.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
All my anxiety is ended; I am rid of the fear of death.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੋ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਕਠਨ ਹੈ);
The sublime state of the True Guru is not known; no one knows what pleases the Perfect True Guru.
(ਪਰ ਹਾਂ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ) ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਦੇ (ਹਲਕੇ) ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Deep within the hearts of His GurSikhs, the True Guru is pervading. The Guru is pleased with those who long for His Sikhs.
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ? ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
When the Lord bestows His Mercy, He leads us to meet the True Guru.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਨਾਹ ਡੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Then, one's devotion becomes steady, and the consciousness is centered upon the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
That which my mind wishes for, the True Guru has granted.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।
I have become carefree, and I fix my attention on the One Lord. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਓ) ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਪਈਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।
I fall at the Feet of the True Guru, who has dispelled my doubts.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ) ਚਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Bestowing His Mercy, God has dressed me, and decorated me with the Truth. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹ
Forever and ever, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and chant the Name of the Destroyer of ego.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦਾ) ਨੇਮ ਤੋੜ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
My vows have been honored, by the Grace of God and the True Guru, who has showered His Mercy. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ
I am the slave of the Lord of the Universe; my Master is the greatest of all.
ਜੋ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He is the Creator, the Cause of causes; He is my True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Peace, celestial poise and absolute bliss are obtained, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੋਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਨੌ ਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ
Bestowing His Name, the True Guru removes the evil omens. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ
The Lord's Lotus Feet are the Boat; attached to Them, you shall cross over the world-ocean.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪੱਕਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ।੬।
Meeting with the Perfect True Guru, I embrace True Love for God. ||6||
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਇਸੇ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
That rare person who centers his consciousness on the True Guru, knows intuitively and realizes the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਜੀਵ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੰੁਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the thoughtless fools wander in doubt, and are ruined.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ । ਵੇਖੀਂ, ਕਿਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਜਤਾਣ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗ ਪਈਂ ।
So be humble, and surrender to the True Guru; do not attach your identity to your ego.
ਜਗਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਵੇਖੀਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਲਈਂ ।
The world is consumed by ego and self-identity; see this, lest you lose your own self as well.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰ-ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Wherever my True Guru goes and sits, that place is beautiful, O Lord King.
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The Guru's Sikhs seek out that place; they take the dust and apply it to their faces.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
The Guru's Sikh keeps the Love of the Lord, and the Name of the Lord, in his mind. He loves You, O Lord, O Lord King.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
He serves the Perfect True Guru, and his hunger and self-conceit are eliminated.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The minds of the Gursikhs rejoice, because they have seen my True Guru, O Lord King.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਆ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If someone recites to them the story of the Lord's Name, it seems so sweet to the mind of those Gursikhs.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who meet my Perfect True Guru - He implants within them the Name of the Lord, the Lord King.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੁੱਖ-ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Those who meditate on the Lord's Name have all of their desire and hunger removed.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਈਆਂ ਹਨ,
The True Guru has preached the sermon of the Lord, O my dear beloved.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
I am a sacrifice to the Guru, O my dear beloved, who has united me with the Lord.
ਉਸ ਧੁਰ-ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨਾਲ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧੁਰ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਉੱਤੇ ਟਿਕੇ,
One knows the Truth only when he dwells in the sacred shrine of pilgrimage of his own soul.
ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਰਹੇ, ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖੇ ।
He sits and receives instruction from the True Guru, and lives in accordance with His Will.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਇਹ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹਨ। ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਥੋੜੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The True Guru is the boat, but few are those who realize this.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧੩।
Granting His Grace, He carries them across. ||13||
(ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
My sorrows are ended, and I am filled with peace. The fire of desire within me has been quenched.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ,
The True Guru has implanted the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me; it neither dies, nor goes anywhere. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਮਿਲੋ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Go, everyone, and meet the True Guru; O my soul, He implants the Name of the Lord, Har, har, within the heart.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਦੇਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ । ਕੀਹ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ! ਮਤਾਂ ਅਗਲਾ ਸਾਹ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ ਜਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ ।
Do not hesitate for an instant - meditate on the Lord, O my soul; who knows whether he shall draw another breath?
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who meets the Perfect True Guru, O my soul, obtains the treasure of the Lord's wealth.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
By great good fortune, one joins the Company of the Holy, O my soul. O Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਆਓ, ਰਲ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ-ਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੋ, (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Come and join me, O my beautiful dear beloveds; let's worship the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਵੋ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਜਮ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਨੂੰ) ਚੰਗਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Let's serve the Perfect True Guru, O my dear beloveds, and clear away the Path of Death.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ (ਦੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਨ) ਲਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ
The True Guru is imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He is the boat in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਭਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
One who becomes Gurmukh crosses over; the True Lord dwells within him.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਭਰਮ ਦਾ ਛਉੜ ਕੱਟਣ ਲਈ) ਇਹ ਕਾਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਲਾਜ) ਕਰੋ
The True Guru has commanded us to do this:
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ) ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰੋ
through the Guru's Gate, meditate on the Lord Master.
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ (ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ) ਦਾ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਸੀ, ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਤੋਂ) ਦੂਰ (-ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਜਾਣਦੀ ਰਹੀ ।
As long as I suffered from duality and doubt, O my friend, I thought God was far away.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਹਰੇਕ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਸਖੀ!
But when I met the Perfect True Guru, O my friend, then all my hopes and desires were fulfilled.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਉਹ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, dwells within my mind; He is the Destroyer of all pain.
ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ । ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ।
By great good fortune, I have obtained the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan; blessed, blessed is my True Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The True Guru has applied the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom to my eyes, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਰਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Serving the Guru, I have obtained the supreme status; I meditate on the Lord with every breath, and every morsel of food.
ਸਾਡਾ ਸਤਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਠੰਡ ਪਈ ਹੈ
Blessed, blessed is the True Being, my True Guru; meeting Him, I have found peace.
ਤੇ ਜਿਸਦੇ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਅਸਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲੱਭੀ ਹੈ ।
Blessed, blessed is the True Being, my True Guru; meeting Him, I have attained the Lord's devotional worship.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਸਾਂ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੈ;
Blessed, blessed is the Lord's devotee, my True Guru; serving Him, I have come to enshrine love for the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਕੀਹ ਤੇ ਸਜਨ ਕੀਹ—ਸਭ ਵਾਲ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਏਕਤਾ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ (ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ) ਸਿਖਾਈ ਹੈ ।
Blessed, blessed is the Knower of the Lord, my True Guru; He has taught me to look upon friend and foe alike.
ਸਾਡਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧੯।
Blessed, blessed is the True Guru, my best friend; He has led me to embrace love for the Name of the Lord. ||19||
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ
The foolish, blind clown does not serve the True Guru.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੜਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾੜੇ ਘੱਤਦਾ ਹੈ
In love with duality, he endures terrible suffering, and burning, he cries out in pain.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ) ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕੀਹ ਮਿਲੇ?
The True Guru is forever merciful, O Siblings of Destiny; without good destiny, what can anyone obtain?
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਪਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਫਲ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He looks alike upon all with His Glance of Grace, but people receive the fruits of their rewards according to their love for the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who meet with the Perfect True Guru, O Beloved, are attached to the True Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਨਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
We are saved by following those, O Beloved, who seek the Sanctuary of the True Lord. ||2||
ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਸ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਦੀ ਦੱਸ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰ-ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਖੋਜ ਕੇ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ ਹ
The True Guru has posed this riddle. The Guru's Sikhs have found its solution.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਘਾਲ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, he alone understands this, whom the Lord inspires to understand. The Gurmukhs work hard, and find the Lord. ||1||
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਣੀ (ਹਰੀ) ਦੀ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ
She sings continually the Glorious Praises of her Beloved; singing His Glorious Praises, she is uplifted.
ਜਿਸ (ਜੀਭ) ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ‘ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ’ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧੩।
She is blessed with the Lord's Mercy, and she chants the Words of the Guru, the True Guru. ||13||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ (ਤਾਂ ਕਿ) ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਸੀ ਕੰਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣੀਏ,
Let me hear with my ears the Banis, the Hymns, in praise of the Lord;
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਏ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰੀਏ ।
be merciful, and let me meet the True Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਓ, ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ) ਨਾਲ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੀਏ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe; focus your meditation on the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ (ਐਸਾ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ) ਕਿ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਭੀ ਫਲ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
He is the True Guru - service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding. By this service, the greatest treasure is obtained.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
All beings and creatures are totally pleased, gazing on God's glorious radiance.
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
The True Guru has paid off my debt; He Himself did it. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਤ-ਸੰਗਣ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ,
The soul-bride is attuned to the Truth, and sleeps with the Lord, along with her companions and sister soul-brides.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕਾਗਰ-ਮਨ ਟਿਕਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਹ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Loving the One Lord, with one-pointed mind, the Naam dwells within; I am united with the True Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਘੁੰਡੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਖੋਹਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If he tells the secrets of his soul to the True Guru, then he finds absolute peace.
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
When the Perfect Guru bestows the Lord's Teachings, then all hunger departs.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ; ਜਿੱਥੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਮੌਜੂਦ) ਹੈ ।
Wherever anyone looks, my True Guru is there; the Lord blessed Him with the whole world.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਤੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਮੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਥਾਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਗੰਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who meets with, and believes in the True Guru, is embellished here and hereafter. Whoever turns his back on the Guru and becomes baymukh, shall wander in cursed and evil places.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਹੜਾ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ) ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਵਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Whatever the Perfect True Guru says, the Transcendent Lord hears.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਬਚਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
It pervades and permeates the whole world, and it is on the mouth of each and every being.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ (ਇਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ (ਹੀ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) । ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ ।
Truth, poise and bliss rest in the True Guru; the Guru bestows the jewel of Truth.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਆਪ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਰਗੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧੨।
O Nanak, the Supreme Lord God embellishes the Saints, who become like the True Lord. ||12||
(ਜੇ) ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ (ਪਰ) ਫਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਜਾਏ
If someone slanders the True Guru, and then comes seeking the Guru's Protection,
ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਪਿਛਲੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
the True Guru forgives him for his past sins, and unites him with the Saints' Congregation.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਇਹ ਗੁਣ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦੀ ਠੰਢ ਤੁਰਤ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Such is the glorious greatness of the True Guru, who has no vengeance; meeting with Him, thirst and hunger are quenched, and instantly, one attains celestial peace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਅਚਰਜ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਵੇਖੋ ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੩।੧।ਸੁਧੁ।
O Nanak, behold this wonder of the Lord, my True King! Everyone is pleased with one who obeys and believes in the True Guru. ||13||1|| Sudh||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The Sikh of the Guru meditates on the True Guru.
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸੇਵਕ ਤਾਂ (ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ) ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।੬।
The Lord's humble servants are saved, while the slanderer is cast into hell. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਮਾਂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੂਰਨ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।
I am in ecstasy, O my mother, for I have found my True Guru.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਡੋਲਣੋਂ ਹਟ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ); ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜ ਪਏ ਹਨ,
I have found the True Guru, with intuitive ease, and my mind vibrates with the music of bliss.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀ ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਵੋ । ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
The Lord dwells within the minds of those who sing the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਭੀ) ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।
Says Nanak, I am in ecstasy, for I have found my True Guru. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ (ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣ, ਇਹ ਗੁਰ-ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Listen to the Teachings of the True Guru - these shall go along with you.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ।੧੧।
Says Nanak, O beloved mind, contemplate the True Lord forever. ||11||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Their greed, avarice and egotism are dispelled, and the True Guru seems sweet.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਰੂਪ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧੩।
Says Nanak, those with whom the Lord is pleased, obtain the Amrit, through the Guru. ||13||
ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੈ,
This song of praise is the Shabad, the most beautiful Word of God.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
This beauteous Shabad is the everlasting song of praise, spoken by the True Guru.
ਬਥੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਐਸੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ।
Some wander around, babbling on and on, but none obtain Him by babbling.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧੬।
Says Nanak, the Shabad, this song of praise, has been spoken by the True Guru. ||16||
ਆਖ਼ਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਾਰਗ ਦਾ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
But liberation is attained, when one is attached to the feet of the True Guru, chanting the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ।੨੨।
Says Nanak, contemplate this and see, that without the True Guru, there is no liberation. ||22||
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਿੱਖੋ! ਆਵੋ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਰਲ ਕੇ) ਗਾਵੋ ।
Come, O beloved Sikhs of the True Guru, and sing the True Word of His Bani.
ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵੋ, ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਹੈ ।
Sing the Guru's Bani, the supreme Word of Words.
ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ ।
Those who are blessed by the Lord's Glance of Grace - their hearts are imbued with this Bani.
ਗੁਰ-ਆਸ਼ੇ ਤੋਂ ਉਲਟ ਬਾਣੀ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੀ ਝਲਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਥਿੜਕਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Without the True Guru, other songs are false.
ਇਹ ਪੱਕੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰ-ਆਸ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
The songs are false without the True Guru; all other songs are false.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Their consciousness is lured by Maya; they are just reciting mechanically.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਗੁਰ-ਆਸ਼ੇ ਤੋਂ ਉਲਟ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਡੇਗਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨੪।
Says Nanak, without the True Guru, other songs are false. ||24||
ਹੋਰ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਢੂੰਢ ਢੂੰਡ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੋਪਾਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Searching in the ten directions, I found Him within my own home.
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
I have met Him; the True Guru has led me to meet Him. ||21||
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
When God Himself bestows His Glance of Grace, then one becomes the slave of His slaves.
ਨਿੱਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ,
And then, night and day, he serves the True Guru, and never leaves His side.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਤੇ ਹੌਲੇ ਮੇਲ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ।
I am low, and I commit evil actions; I have not remembered my Sovereign Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ।੨।
The Lord has led me to meet the True Guru; in an instant, He liberated me from bondage. ||1||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The True Guru saves us at both ends; he alone understands, who is lovingly focused on the One Lord; his inner being remains free of doubt.
(ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
The Word of the Shabad abides within, and doubt is ended, for those who constantly serve, day and night. ||4||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜੀਵ-ਮੁਸਾਫ਼ਿਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ,
The True Guru is the boat; the Word of the Shabad will carry them across.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਅਪੜਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਥੇ ਨਾਹ ਹਵਾ ਨਾਹ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜੋ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ।
There is neither wind nor fire, neither water nor form there.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਕਿ “ਆਪਣ...ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ”—ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ‘ਅਗਮ ਨਿਗਮੁ’) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ) ‘ਅਗਮ ਨਿਗਮੁ’ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
The True Guru has revealed the essence of the Shaastras and the Vedas.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In His Mercy, He has come into the home of my self.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਡਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They are robed with honor in the Court of the Lord, and emancipated by the True Guru.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ) ਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਚਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ) ਭਟਕਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੧੬।
The True Guru breaks the bonds of egotism, and restrains the fickle consciousness. ||16||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਦਾ ਪੱਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ),
Truth and self-control are found through the Door of the True Guru.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Egotism and anger are silenced through the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
As it pleases His Will, He unites us with the True Guru.
ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ) ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
As it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell within the mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The True Guru trickles the Ambrosial Nectar into my mouth.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
My Tenth Gate has been opened and revealed.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ (ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਅਭੀਚ ਪੁਰਬ ਦੇ) ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ (ਦੇ ਸਮੇ) ਤੇ ਕੁਲਖੇਤ ਤੇ ਗਿਆ, ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਉੱਦਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਥੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।
The Creator Lord God Himself created the festival, when the True Guru went to bathe at the festival in Kuruk-shaytra.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, (ਇਹ ਗੁਰ-ਦਰਸਨ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਅਭੀਚ (ਨਛੱਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
To receive the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Guru, the True Guru, is to truly bathe at the Abhaijit festival. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮਸੂਲ ਭਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਈ । (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ,
All the True Guru's followers were excused from the tax; they meditated on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਮਰਾਜ ਮਸੂਲੀਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ।
The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who have walked on the path, and followed the Guru's Teachings.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।
O my mind, chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਿਆ ਕਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ) । ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
Wash the Feet of the True Guru, and worship them. In this way, you shall find my Lord God. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Granting His Grace, the Lord unites the mortals with the True Guru.
ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।
O Nanak, the Naam is enshrined within the heart. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਖਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੇ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The True Guru has revealed to me the Lord's Home and His Court, and the Mansion of His Presence. I joyfully enjoy His Love.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮੰਨ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।੧੬।
Whatever He says, I accept as good; Nanak chants the Naam. ||4||6||16||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਾਰੇ (ਇੱਛਿਤ) ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Pleasing the True Guru, I have found peace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Meditating on the Guru, I have obtained all fruits and rewards. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
O Savior Lord, that person whom You have saved
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
- You lead him to meet the True Guru, and so take care of him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Granting His Grace, the Lord leads the mortal to meet the True Guru.
(ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord Himself comes to abide in his mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਦੋਂ) ਬਸੰਤ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਹਰੀ-ਭਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
The season of spring has come, and all the plants have blossomed forth.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਲ) ਹਰਾ-ਭਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
This mind blossoms forth, in association with the True Guru. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਜਲ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪ) ਪਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Name of the Lord is the Ambrosial Nectar, Har, Har, Har. He alone drinks it in, whom the Lord inspires to drink it.
ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The Merciful Lord Himself bestows His Mercy, and He leads the mortal to meet with the True Guru. That humble being tastes the Ambrosial Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
(ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੰਛੀ (ਵਾਂਗ ਉਡਾਰੂ ਇਹ) ਮਤਿ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The bird of the intellect comes under one's control, by meditating on the True Guru.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਉਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
O Nanak, if the Lord becomes merciful, the mortal lovingly tunes in to the Naam. ||4||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He loses his self-conceit, and meets the True Guru; he remains intuitively absorbed in the Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
O Nanak, they never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they are united in Union with the True Lord. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਚਿਤਵਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ) ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
Collecting the poison of Maya, people think of all sorts of evil. But peace is found only by vibrating and meditating on the Lord; with the Saints, in the Sangat, the Society of the Saints, meet the True Guru, the Holy Guru.
। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਲੋਹਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ, ਸੁੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Just as when the iron slag is transmuted into gold by touching the Philosopher's Stone - when the sinner joins the Sangat, he becomes pure, through the Guru's Teachings. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਠ (ਬੇੜੀ) ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੋਹਾ (ਨਦੀ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Just like the heavy iron which is carried across on the wooden raft, sinners are carried across in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and the Guru, the True Guru, the Holy Guru.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ) ਚਾਰ ਵਰਨ (ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ) ਹਨ, (ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਚਰਜ ਆਦਿਕ) ਚਾਰ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਮ (ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ) ਹਨ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੫।੧੧।
There are four castes, four social classes, and four stages of life. Whoever meets the Guru, Guru Nanak, is himself carried across, and he carries all his ancestors and generations across as well. ||2||5||11||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕ-ਮਨ ਇਕ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Your humble servants focus their consciousness and meditate on You with one-pointed mind; those Holy beings find peace, chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the Treasure of Bliss.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They sing Your Praises, God, meeting with the Holy, the Holy people, and the Guru, the True Guru, O Lord God. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ
In the Sanctuary of the Holy, I focus my consciousness on the Lord's Feet.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਪਨਾ ਹੀ (ਅਖੀਂ) ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
When I was dreaming, I heard and saw only dream-objects. The True Guru has implanted the Mantra of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਤੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Mercy, mercy, mercy - O Dear Lord, please shower Your Mercy on me, and attach me to Your Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵੋ । ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Please be Merciful, and lead me to meet the True Guru; meeting the True Guru, I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਦਾਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
O Merciful Lord God, please bless me with Your Bounty; O Lord God, please preserve and protect the honor of Your humble servant.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਧੰਨ-ਧੰਨ ਆਖੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਧੰਨ-ਧੰਨ ਆਖੋ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੭।
Let everyone proclaim: Blessed is the Guru, the True Guru, the Guru, the True Guru; meeting Him, the Lord covers their faults and deficiencies. ||7||
(ਤੇ, ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪਾਠਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਿੱਖੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The Sat Sangat, the True Congregation of the True Guru, is the school of the soul, where the Glorious Virtues of the Lord are studied.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜੀਭ (ਜਿਹੜੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੈ) ਧੰਨ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਹੱਥ (ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਖੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਾਂਧਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।੮।
Blessed, blessed is the tongue, blessed is the hand, and blessed is the Teacher, the True Guru; meeting Him, the Account of the Lord is written. ||8||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ) ਤੋਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ (ਸਦਾ) ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
I am a sacrifice, forever and ever, to those who have seen my Beloved True Guru.
(ਪਰ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
They alone meet my True Guru, who have such pre-ordaind destiny written upon their foreheads.
ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The treasure of this human life is won, meditating on the Lord of Detachment.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੋ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੀ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੪।
Let everyone seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru; let the black spot of pain, the scar of suffering, be erased. ||14||
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਜੋ ਬੰਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੌਕੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੁੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ (ਤੁਲਸੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ) ਮਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
One who does not have good karma or Dharmic faith, sacred rosary or mala
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਲਿਆਣ-ਰੂਪ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ) ਅਕਲ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ ।੨।
- through the Light of God, wisdom is bestowed; the True Guru is our Protector. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਕੋਈ (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਰ) ਨੇਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਾਰਿਆ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ-ਚਰਚਾ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ,
One who does not observe any fasts, make religious vows or chant
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਜਾਂ ਨਰਕ ਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਸਹਿਮ ਨਾਹ ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ ।੩।
- he does not have to worry about good luck or bad, if he obeys the Command of the True Guru. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਕ) ਗਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ । (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਗਹਿਣਾ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਖੱਟ ਲਈ ।
The True Guru has revealed the ornamentation of peace; the Glorious Greatness of the Naam is Great!
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ (ਸਦਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਇਹ) ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਭਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕਦੇ ਕਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।੩।
The Inexhaustible Treasures are overflowing; they are never exhausted. So serve the Lord forever, O Siblings of Destiny. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ।
Those human beings who do not serve the True Guru - their lives are uselessly wasted.
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਫਿਰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
When God bestows His Glance of Grace, then we meet the True Guru, merging in intuitive peace and poise.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ!) ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ,
Says Nanak, I have meditated on the Lord, Infinite and Endless.
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
This world-ocean is so difficult to cross; the True Guru has carried me across.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ । (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਾਂ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ,
The True Guru, the True Guru, the True Guru is the Lord of the Universe Himself.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਛਲਿਆ ਸੀ, ਆਪ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਨ ਤੋੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ । (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਕਾਨ੍ਹ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਹੈ । (ਆਪ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਕਲੰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਦਾ ਡੰਕਾ ਵੱਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਲ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Enticer of Baliraja, who smothers the mighty, and fulfills the devotees; the Prince Krishna, and Kalki; the thunder of His army and the beat of His drum echoes across the Universe.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਾਂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੱਛ ਕੱਛ ਤੇ ਵਰਾਹ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਈ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੇਂਦ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡੀ ਸੀ ।
He took birth in the Incarnations of the Fish, Tortoise and Wild Boar, and played His part. He played games on the banks of the Jamunaa River.
ਹੇ ਗਯੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਨ! (ਇਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ; ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹੀ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਹੈ ।੪।੯।
Enshrine this most excellent Name within your heart, and renounce the wickedness of the mind, O Gayand the True Guru, the True Guru, the True Guru is the Lord of the Universe Himself. ||4||9||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਕਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਿਆ,
Those who do not serve the True Guru, and do not keep the Shabad enshrined in their hearts
ਉਹ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ? ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਮਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
- cursed are their lives. why did they even come into the world?
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ (ਕਰਮ-ਬੀਜ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰੀਰ-ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ) ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰੀ (ਮਿਹਨਤ) ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The charity and generosity he pretends to give will be judged by the Righteous Judge of Dharma.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜਨਮ) ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਛੱਡਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ । ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Without the True Guru, the Messenger of Death does not leave the mortal alone; he is ruined by the love of duality.
ਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Waaho! Waaho! Blessed and Great is the True Guru, who implants the Truth within.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਰੋ ।੨।
O Nanak, Blessed and Great is the True Guru, through whom the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is received. ||2||
