(ਸੁਖ ਚਾਹੇ ਦੁੱਖ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਬੂਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ) ।
Whatever You give me, brings me happiness.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਥੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ (ਸੁਰਗ) ਹੈ ।੩।
Wherever You keep me, is heaven. You are the Cherisher of all. ||3||
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਤੇ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।
Everything is obtained: the heavens, liberation and deliverance,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਨੇ ਅੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਹਨ,
if one sings the Lord's Glories, even for an instant.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਗੱਪਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੈਕੰੁੰਠ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਠਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ।੧।
by mere words, he plans to enter heaven. ||1||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ,
I do not know where heaven is.
(ਇੱਕ ਗੱਲ ਹੋਰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
As long as the mind is filled with the desire for heaven,
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਜੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
he does not dwell at the Lord's Feet. ||3||
ਚੱਲ, ਹੇ (ਮਨ-ਰੂਪ ਘੋੜੇ)! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਦੇ ਸੈਰ ਕਰਾਵਾਂ;
Come, and let me ride you to heaven.
ਜੇ ਅੜੀ ਕੀਤੀਓਈ, ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਚਾਬਕ ਮਾਰਾਂਗਾ ।੨।
If you hold back, then I shall strike you with the whip of spiritual love. ||2||
ਜੇ ਲੋਕ ਔਗੁਣ ਨਸ਼ਰ ਕਰਨ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ
If I am slandered, I go to heaven;
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ
the wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides within my mind.
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ!) ਉਸ (ਹਰਿ-ਸਾਲਗਿਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ) ਦਾ ਘੰਟਾ (ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਣੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
His bell resounds to the four corners of the world.
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ-ਰੂਪ) ਬੈਕੰੁਠ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
His seat is forever in heaven.
ਜੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ (ਭੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇ, ਤੇ) ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜਨਾ;
With filth within the heart, even if one bathes at sacred places of pilgrimage, still, he shall not go to heaven.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੀ ।
Remembering, remembering God, his Lord and Master in meditation, the Messenger of Death does not approach him.
ਸੇਵਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ । (ਇਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ (ਪਾਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ) ਹੈ ।੧।
Liberation and heaven are found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; his humble servant finds the home of the Lord. ||1||
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Prays Naam Dayv, I have become a man of good deeds and good thoughts.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ) ਚੰਗੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਅਕਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।੨।
Chanting the Lord's Name, under Guru's Instructions, who has not gone to heaven? ||2||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹੋਣ, ਉਹੀ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲ) ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹਰ
The city of heaven is where the Saints dwell.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
They enshrine the Lotus Feet of God within their hearts. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੈ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਨ, ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਚ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ
Liberation, comfort and proper lifestyle come from serving You; You alone cause us to serve You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹੀ ਥਾਂ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਹੈ, ਤੰੰੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਸਰਧਾ (ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
That place is heaven, where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung. You Yourself instill faith into us. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੈਰ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਮਝੋ,
That is the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, where the Holy place their feet,
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਸੱਚਖੰਡ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
and that is heaven, where the Naam is chanted.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝ ।
Know that one who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord is very fortunate.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The sins of countless incarnations are washed off, and he attains the heavenly realm. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Remembering Him in meditation, the door of liberation is found.
(ਉਸ ਰਸਤੇ) ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜੇਂਗਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰ (-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਟਕੇਂਗਾ);
You shall go to heaven, and not return to this earth.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਵੇਖੋ,) ਤੋਤਾ (ਗਨਿਕਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ ‘ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ’) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਗਿਆ ।
The virtues of the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, are so very great. Even the prostitute was saved, by teaching the parrot to speak the Lord's Name.
ਕੁਬਿਜਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਛੋਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ, (ਉਹ ਛੋਹ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਲੈ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ।੧।
Krishna was pleased, and so he touched the hunch-back Kubija, and she was transported to the heavens. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ) ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ।
Myriads of heavens do not equal the Lord's Name.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ) ਛਡ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The spiritually wise forsake mere liberation.
ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ) ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ,
Millions of heavenly paradises are within the scope of His Vision.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਹਨ, (ਉਹ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ) ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
Millions of His Names cannot even be appraised. ||3||
ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ ।
Everyone speaks of going there,
ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ) ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
but I do not even know where heaven is. ||1||Pause||
ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ‘ਬੈਕੁੰਠ’ ਆਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
speaks of heaven, but it is only talk. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਦ ਤਕ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਅੱਪੜਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਹਨ,
As long as the mortal hopes for heaven,
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਦਾ ਬੂਹਾ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ,
Heaven is not a fort with moats and ramparts, and walls plastered with mud;
ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸੀਲ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਖਾਈ ਹੈ ।੩।
I do not know what heaven's gate is like. ||3||
(ਇੱਥੋਂ) ਤਰ ਕੇ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
By the Grace of the Divine Guru, one swims across to heaven.
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ) ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
By the Grace of the Divine Guru, one remains dead while yet alive. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ—(ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਹੈ ।
To meditate on the Lotus Feet of the Lord of the Universe is heaven for me.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ—(ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ) ਮੁਕਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is the treasure of liberation and the Lord's Ambrosial Name. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ ਬੜਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਇਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ਾਮੀਆਨਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਹ ਚਾਰੇ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਂ (ਉਸ ਸ਼ਾਮੀਆਨੇ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੋ) ਕਨਾਤ ਹੈ,
His Home is the pavilion seen in all directions; His ornamental heavenly realms fill the seven worlds alike.
(ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ-ਮਹਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤਸਵੀਰ-ਘਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਾਰਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਤਸਵੀਰ-ਘਰ ਹੈ
In His Home, the virgin Lakshmi dwells. The moon and the sun are His two lamps; the wretched Messenger of Death stages his dramas, and levies taxes on all.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ (ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ (ਸੁਰਗ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਦੀ ਹੀ) ਆਸ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।
Everyone longs for paradise, liberation and heaven; all place their hopes in them.
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਭਗਤ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦੇ । (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇ ਰਜੇਵੇਂ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The humble long for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; they do not ask for liberation. Their minds are satisfied and comforted by His Darshan. ||1||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ) ਸੱਤਿ ਦਾ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਸੀਆ), ਸੀਲਵੰਤ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਿਚ ਤਕੜਾ ਹੈ, ਵੱਡੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਡੂੰਘੀ ਮੱਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ;
He is the Warrior Hero of Truth, humility is His Power. His Loving Nature inspires the Congregation with deep and profound understanding; He is absorbed in the Lord, free of hate and vengeance.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦਾ) ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਧੀਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਝੰਡਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਦੇ ਪੁਲ ਤੇ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
