ਇਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਹਰੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਨਾਹ ਵੱਢੀ ਜਾਏ, ਡੱਡਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਆਈ ਹੋਈ (ਅੱਧ-ਪੱਕੀ) ਨਾਹ ਵੱਢੀ ਜਾਏ, ਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪੱਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੀ ਵੱਢੀ ਜਾੲ
The Reaper does not look upon any as unripe, half-ripe or fully ripe.
ਜਦੋਂ ਖੇਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਾਢੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦਾਤਰੇ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ
Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive.
ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
Nothing is born, and nothing dies.
(ਇਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦਾ ਤਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੇਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ;
He Himself stages His own drama.
ਸੂਤਕ ਨਿਰਾ ਭਰਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ (ਸੂਤਕ-ਰੂਪ ਭਰਮ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
All impurity comes from doubt and attachment to duality.
(ਉਞ ਤਾਂ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Birth and death are subject to the Command of the Lord's Will; through His Will we come and go.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਜੀਭ! ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈਂ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਸਕਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।
O my tongue, you are engrossed in other tastes, but your thirsty desire is not quenched.
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਸਕਾ ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Your thirst shall not be quenched by any means, until you attain the subtle essence of the Lord.
ਨਿਰਾ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਹੱਸਣ ਤੇ ਸੌਣ ਦੇ ਆਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮੌਤ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Eating, drinking, laughing and sleeping, the mortal forgets about dying.
(ਮੌਤ ਭੁੱਲਿਆਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਹ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਆਰੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ । (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਜੀਊਣਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸਦਾ ਇਥੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣਾ (ਫਿਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ?) ।੧।
Forgetting his Lord and Master, the mortal is ruined, and his life is cursed. He cannot remain forever. ||1||
ਹੇ ਫਰੀਦ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦਰਿਆ ਦਾ ਕਿਨਾਰਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਵੇਗ ਨਾਲ ਢਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੌਤ (-ਰੂਪ) ਨਦੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਢਾ ਹੈ
Fareed, the shore of death looks like the river-bank, being eroded away.
(ਮੌਤ) ਅਗਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਤਪੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਣੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਥੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਾਹਾਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਰੌਲਾ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
Beyond is the burning hell, from which cries and shrieks are heard.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਿਸਤਾ (ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਭੰਨ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਕਾਰੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
But when the Messenger of Death comes, it breaks down all the doors.
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਵੀਰ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਰਿਸਤੇ ਦੇ) ਅੱਗੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਤੋਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
It binds and gags the mortal, before the eyes of his beloved brothers.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸ੍ਰੀ) ਰਾਮ (-ਚੰਦ੍ਰ) ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ, ਰਾਵਨ ਭੀ ਚੱਲ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Raam Chand passed away, as did Raawan, even though he had lots of relatives.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ— (ਇਥੇ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ । (ਇਹ) ਜਗਤ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ ।੫੦।
Says Nanak, nothing lasts forever; the world is like a dream. ||50||
