ਹੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ !) ਪਉਣ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅਗਨੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਧਰਮ-ਰਾਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ’ਤੇ (ਖਲੋ ਕੇ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The praanic wind, water and fire sing; the Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at Your Door.
ਉਹ ਚਿੱਤਰ-ਗੁਪਤ ਭੀ ਜੋ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ-ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੇਖੇ) ਲਿਖਣੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮ-ਰਾਜ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Chitr and Gupt, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious who record actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma who judges this record sing.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਉਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸੋਂ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ (ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ)
In that pool, people have made their homes, but the water there is as hot as fire!
ਜੋ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਪੈਰ ਚੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਜੀਵ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ) । ਸਾਡੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੀ (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਉਸ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਅਸਗਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
In the swamp of emotional attachment, their feet cannot move. I have seen them drowning there. ||1||
ਨ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ । ਨ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
After bathing, the Muslims recite their prayers, and after bathing, the Hindus perform their worship services. The wise always take cleansing baths.
ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਤੇ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੀਸਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਜਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
At the time of death, and at the time of birth, they are purified, when water is poured on their heads.
ਹੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝ ਲੈ (ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ) ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਅੱਗ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ)
The union of air, water and fire
ਚੰਚਲ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਥਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਟਿਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ (ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।
- the body is the play-thing of the fickle and unsteady intellect.
(ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਦੇ) ਅੱਗ (ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਕਦੇ) ਪਾਣੀ (ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹ) ਤੱਤਾ-ਠੰਢਾ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Fire and water join together, and the breath roars in its fury!
ਜੀਭ ਆਦਿਕ ਹਰੇਕ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਸਕਾ (ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ,
The tongue and the sex organs each seek to taste.
(ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰੇ (ਵਖ ਵਖ) ਰੂਪ ਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਬਣੇ ਹਨ ।
All forms and colors come from the One Lord.
ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਹਵਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਅੱਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ (ਤੱਤ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।
Air, water and fire are all kept together.
(ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਬੱਦਲ ਦਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਪਰਲਾ ਬੱਦਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ (ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ) ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਬੱਦਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ) । (ਖੂਹ ਪੁੱਟਿਆਂ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਿਕਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬੱਦਲ ਭੀ (ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ) ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The clouds pour their rain down upon the earth, but isn't there water within the earth as well?
(ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਸਮਝੋ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ । ਪਾਣੀ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ, ਪਾਣੀ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ । ਜੀਵ ਚਾਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਚਾਹੇ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਉਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ—ਹੈ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ) ।੧।
Water is contained within the earth; without feet, the clouds run around and let down their rain. ||1||
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਇਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਇਹ ਨੱਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਅੰਗ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਪਾਣੀ (ਹਵਾ ਅੱਗ ਆਦਿਕ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵਰਤਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।
He gave all beings souls, bodies, mouths, noses and water to drink.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅੰਨ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਕੱਪੜਾ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਭੋਗਣ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।
He gave them corn to eat, clothes to wear, and other pleasures to enjoy.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ (ਜੇ ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰ ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ) ਉਹ ਝੂਠੇ ਗੰਢ-ਤੁਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who do not have love for the Lord within their hearts, harbor only false intentions and goals.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਪਿਆ) ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
As paper breaks down and dissolves in water, the self-willed manmukh wastes away in arrogant pride. ||3||
(ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਹਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
Fire, air and water are polluted.
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਕੁਝ ਭੋਜਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਉਹ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ (ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਬਣਦਾ) ਹੈ ।੩।
The food which is eaten is polluted. ||3||
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I carry water for the Guru's household;
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ-ਬੂਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕਦੇ ਘਟਦਾ ਵਧਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।੪।
from the Guru, I have learned the Way of the One Lord. ||4||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਬੁਹਤ ਆਜਿਜ਼ ਹਾਂ ।
Meet me, O my Dear Beloved. Without You, I am totally dishonored.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜੀ!) ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆੳਂੁਦੀ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਅੰਨ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਣੀ ।
Sleep does not come to my eyes, and I have no desire for food or water.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਦ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਦੇ ।
Men and women are obsessed with sex; they do not know the Way of the Lord's Name.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਭਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜਿਸ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ) ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਮੋਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ (ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Mother, father, children and siblings are very dear, but they drown, even without water.
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਅੱਗਾਂ ਹਨ,
Many millions are the winds, waters and fires.
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਦੇਸ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਹਨ;
Many millions are the countries and realms of the world.
ਪਉਣ ਵਿਚ, ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ, ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ, ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ) ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ;
He permeates the winds and the waters.
ਚਹੁੰ ਕੂਟਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ (ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ) ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ;
He is pervading in the four corners and in the ten directions.
ਉਹ ਪਾਲਕੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਆਈਆਂ ਸਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਹਾਥੀ-ਦੰਦ ਦੇ ਚੂੜੇ ਸਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ।
They came in palanquins, decorated with ivory;
(ਸਹੁਰੇ-ਘਰ ਆਈਆਂ ਦੇ) ਉਤੋਂ ਦੀ (ਸਗਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, (ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ਿਆਂ-ਜੜੇ) ਪੱਖੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਲਿਸ਼ਕ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ।੨।
water was sprinkled over their heads, and glittering fans were waved above them. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਧਨ ਦੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਲਛਮੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
Millions of gods and goddesses of wealth serve Him in so many ways.
ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਅਣਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤੂ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
The invisible and visible beings worship Him in adoration, along with wind and water, day and night.
ਕਿਤੇ ਪਉਣ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ,
Wonderful is the wind, wonderful is the water.
ਕਿਤੇ ਕਈ ਅਗਨੀਆਂ ਅਚਰਜ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ;
Wonderful is fire, which works wonders.
ਪਉਣ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅੱਗ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤ), ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਹਨ ।
By His Power wind, water and fire exist; by His Power earth and dust exist.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਖੇਲ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ (ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈਂ ।
Everything is in Your Power, Lord; You are the all-powerful Creator. Your Name is the Holiest of the Holy.
(ਸਾਰੀਆਂ) ਘੜੀਆਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਗੋਪੀਆਂ ਹਨ; (ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਹਿਰ, (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕਾਨ੍ਹ ਹਨ;
All the hours are the milk-maids, and the quarters of the day are the Krishnas.
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਅੱਗ, (ਮਾਨੋ) ਗਹਿਣੇ ਹਨ (ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੋਪੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ) । (ਰਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਏ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ ਵਿਚ) ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ, (ਮਾਨੋ) ਦੋ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹਨ ।
The wind, water and fire are the ornaments; the sun and moon are the incarnations.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਚਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਥੋੜਾ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਥੋੜਾ ਹੀ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਚਸਕੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੈ) ।
They burn away the bonds of the world, and eat a simple diet of grain and water.
“ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ”
You are the Great Forgiver; You give continually, more and more each day.
ਅੰਨ ਦੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਦਾਣੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਣਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
As many as are the grains of corn, none is without life.
ਪਾਣੀ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਹਰਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
First, there is life in the water, by which everything else is made green.
ਅੰਨ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅੱਗ ਤੇ ਲੂਣ—ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਨ), ਪੰਜਵਾਂ ਘਿਉ ਭੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The corn is sacred, the water is sacred; the fire and salt are sacred as well; when the fifth thing, the ghee, is added,
ਤਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਲਾਇਆਂ) ਬੜਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਭੋਜਨ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
then the food becomes pure and sanctified.
ਅੰਞਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਤਰਤਾ, ਜਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ
Friendship with a fool, and love with a pompous person,
—ਇਹ ਇਉਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਕ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਲੀਕ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ।੪।
are like lines drawn in water, leaving no trace or mark. ||4||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਅੱਗ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤ) ਰਚੇ, ਤਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਵਜੂਦ ਰਚੇ ।
He created air, water and fire, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva - the whole creation.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਆਦਿਕ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਨ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ । (ਸਮਰੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੪।
All are beggars; You alone are the Great Giver, God. You give Your gifts according to Your own considerations. ||4||
(ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹ
Serving them, my body is purified.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੱਖਾ ਝੱਲ ਕੇ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ) ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋ ਕੇ, (ਚੱਕੀ) ਪੀਹ ਕੇ, (ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I wave the fans over them, and carry water for them; I grind the corn for them, and washing their feet, I am over-joyed.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਧਰਤੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਅਡੋਲ) ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਭੀ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ
The earth is in the water, and the fire is contained in the wood.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਲੱਕੜੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਅੱਗ (ਲੁਕਾ ਕੇ) ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਉਹ ਖਸਮ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਡੋਲ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਪਿਆ) ਹੈ ।੨।
O Nanak, yearn for that Lord, who is the Support of all. ||2||
ਕਿਉਂ (ਗਿਣੇ ਮਿਥੇ) ਜਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ? ਕਿਉਂ ਤਪ ਸਾਧਦੇ ਹੋ? ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਰਿੜਕਦੇ ਹੋ?
Why bother to chant your spells? Why bother to practice austerities? Why bother to churn water?
ਉਸ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਯਾਦ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ (ਜੋਨਿ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ।
Meditate on the Lord of Nirvaanaa, who has created the 8.4 million species of beings. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਧਰਤੀ, ਪਾਤਾਲ, ਆਕਾਸ਼—ਹਰੇਕ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
The earth, the nether regions of the underworld, and the Akaashic ethers, O my soul, all meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ, ਅੱਗ—ਹਰੇਕ ਤੱਤ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
Wind, water and fire, O my soul, continually sing the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
ਜਮਰਾਜ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਸੰਗਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ।
He receives no food there, no honor or water, no clothes or decorations.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਪੈ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹੰੁਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਬੀਜੇ ਹੋਏ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਬੀਜ) ਉੱਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ ।
The chain is put around his neck, and the Messenger of Death standing over his head strikes him; he cannot see the door of his home.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਨ ਕਮਾਣ ਲਈ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਲੀ (ਵਰਗਾ ਉੱਦਮੀ) ਬਣਾ, ਉਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹੀ ਸਮਝ, ਮੇਹਨਤ (ਨਾਮ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਹੀ) ਪੈਲੀ ਹੈ ।
Make your mind the farmer, good deeds the farm, modesty the water, and your body the field.
(ਇਸ ਪੈਲੀ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੀਜ, (ਬੀ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਛੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਹਾਗਾ ਫੇਰਨਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਮ-ਬੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ) ਸੰਤੋਖ (ਨਾਮ-ਬੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ) ਸੁਹਾਗਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ (ਨਾਮ-ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ
Let the Lord's Name be the seed, contentment the plow, and your humble dress the fence.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਚੁਬਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਉਸ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਰ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਹਨ, ਧਰਤੀ ਉਸ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਦਾ (ਹੇਠਲਾ) ਪੁੜ ਹੈ (ਫ਼ਰਸ਼ ਹੈ), ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਉਸ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਦਾ (ਉਪਰਲਾ) ਪੁੜ ਹੈ (ਛੱਤ ਹੈ) ।
In the realm of land, and in the realm of water, Your seat is the chamber of the four directions.
ਇਸ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ । ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ (ਦੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਜੰਤਾਂ) ਦੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ ।੧।
Yours is the one and only form of the entire universe; Your mouth is the mint to fashion all. ||1||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੱਛੀ (ਤੜਫਦੀ) ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Like a fish without water is the faithless cynic, who dies of thirst.
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਸੁਆਸ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
So shall you die, O mind, without the Lord, as your breath goes in vain. ||1||
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਉਹ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Without the Guru, there is no true devotion; otherwise, people wander around, deluded by ignorance.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਉਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਡੁੱਬ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
The self-willed manmukhs wander around, suffering in constant pain; they drown and die, even without water. ||1||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ
How can the fish live without water?
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੀਂਹ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਰੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ
Without the raindrops, how can the rainbird be satisfied?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਵਾ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਧਰਤੀ ਆਕਾਸ਼—ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ (ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।
Air, water, earth and sky - the Lord has made these His home and temple.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਦੱਸੋ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਅਸੱਤ ਆਖਾਂ? ।੨।੧।
He Himself is pervading everywhere, O Nanak. Tell me: what can be counted as false? ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਵੇਖ, (ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ, (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ, ਲੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਗ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਸ਼ੇਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਕਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਥਾਂ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।
Water is locked up in the earth, and fire is locked up in wood.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਅਜੇਹੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਡਰ ਭਰਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਕਰ ।੩।
The sheep and the lions are kept in one place; O mortal, meditate on the Lord, and your doubts and fears shall be removed. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਖਾ ਝੱਲਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਚੱਕੀ ਪੀਹ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ
I wave the fan over them, carry water for them, and grind corn for the humble servants of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੪।੭।੫੪।
Nanak offers this prayer to God - please, grant me the sight of Your humble servants. ||4||7||54||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ, ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮੈਂ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਝਲਾਂਗਾ, ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਵਾਂਗਾ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਖਾਣ ਲਈ) ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ ਉਹੀ (ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਖਾ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ ।੫।
I wave the fan over You, and carry water for You; whatever You give me, I take. ||5||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਗਰੀਬ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ।੬।
Poor Nanak has fallen at the Lord's Door; please, O Lord, unite me with Yourself, by Your Glorious Greatness. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣੀ (ਢੋਇਆ ਕਰ), ਪੱਖਾ (ਝੱਲਿਆ ਕਰ), (ਆਟਾ) ਪੀਹਾ ਕਰ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣੇਂਗਾ ।
Carry water for the Lord's slave, wave the fan over him, and grind his corn; then, you shall be happy.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਕੂਮਤਾਂ, ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਕੀ, ਸਰਦਾਰੀਆਂ—ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਾੜ ਦੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ) ।੧।
Burn in the fire your power, property and authority. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਜੋ ਸਤੋ ਅਤੇ ਤਮੋ ਗੁਣ ਦਾ ਅਭਾਵ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Forget the three qualities of wind, water and fire,
ਉਸੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
and concentrate on the pure True Name.
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਹਿਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਆਸਣ ਉਤੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਐਸੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ) ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ, ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮ (ਉਸ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ) ਦੋ ਭਿੱਤ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।
Pain is the door, and anger is the guard; hope and anxiety are the two shutters.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਖਾਈ (ਪੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਹਿਰਦਾ-) ਘਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
Maya is the water in the moat; in the middle of this moat, he has built his home. The Primal Lord sits in the Seat of Truth. ||2||
(ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਪਉਣ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤਾਂ) ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਦੀਵੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ,
Binding together water and air, He infused the breath of life into the body, and made the lamps of the sun and the moon.
ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਧਰਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਇਤਨੇ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
To die and to live, He gave us the earth, but we have forgotten these blessings. ||2||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੂਣ ਘਿਉ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਗਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਘਿਉ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਕੁਮਲਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
Paper and salt, protected by ghee, remain untouched by water, as the lotus remains unaffected in water.
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੪।੪।
Those who meet with such devotees, O servant Nanak - what can death do to them? ||4||4||
(ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਦੀਵਾ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
It is not extinguished by water or wind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ-ਦਾਤਾ) ਦੀਵਾ (ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਰ ।੩।
Such a lamp will carry you across the water. ||3||
