ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਕਈ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਛੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
For You, many, for You, so very many read the various Simritees and Shaastras. They perform rituals and religious rites.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਭਲੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋਈ ਜਾਣੋ) ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ-ਭਗਵੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।
Those devotees, those devotees are sublime, O servant Nanak, who are pleasing to my Dear Lord God. ||4||
ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਆਦਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
His humble devotees are protected and saved; He Himself showers His Blessings upon us.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਭਗਤਾਂ) ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
In this world and in the world hereafter, radiant are the faces of those who cherish and enshrine the Glories of the True Lord.
(ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਤੇਰੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Through loving devotional worship, they become pleasing to Your Mind.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੫।
They serve the True Guru, the Giver of eternal peace, and all their desires are fulfilled. ||5||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
All call themselves Your devotees,
ਪਰ (ਅਸਲ) ਉਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।
but they alone are Your devotees, who are pleasing to Your mind.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਆਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who themselves worship the Lord, and inspire others to worship Him as well.
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I humbly bow to those devotees who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
You have engaged millions of people in Your Service.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਣਾ—ਇਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
You are the Lover of Your devotees; this is Your Nature.
ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਜੀਵ ਢੂੰੰਢਦੇ ਫਿਰੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ ।
Countless are those who wander around searching for You, but they do not find Your limits.
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਬਣ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
They alone are Your devotees, who are blessed by Your Grace. ||1||
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਝੂਠ ਠੱਗੀ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
This body is filled to overflowing with falsehood, deception and the commission of sins.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੌ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦੀ ।
The Gurmukh practices that devotional worship, by which the celestial music wells up; without this devotional worship, filth is not removed.
ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਕਈ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਛੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
For You, many - for You, so very many read the various Simritees and Shaastras; they perform religious rituals and the six ceremonies.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਭਗਤ ਭਲੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਥਾਂਇ ਪਈ ਜਾਣੋ) ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ-ਭਗਵੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪
Those devotees, those devotees are good, O servant Nanak, who are pleasing to my Lord God. ||4||
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਸਲ) ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈ ਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ
He alone is the selfless servant, slave and humble devotee,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
who as Gurmukh, becomes the slave of his Lord and Master.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ (ਸਹੀ) ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord.
ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਚ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹ ਨਿਯਮ (ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ) ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਭਗਤ) ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਤਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Nanak proclaims and announces what happens at the Door of the Transcendent Lord.
(ਪਰ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ) ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੧੦।
The humble devotees of the Lord are forever in bliss; singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, they blossom forth. ||2||10||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਉਜਾਗਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਬੋਲ-ਚਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through the Word of the Shabad, the devotees are known; their words are true.
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
They eradicate ego from within themselves; they surrender to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and meet with the True One. ||1||
(ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ (ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ) ਇਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਧਰ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Primal Lord has revealed this wondrous show; wherever I look, there I see Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਸਾਰਦਾ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
O Nanak, I shall not forsake the Lord's devotional worship; in the natural course, what shall be, shall be. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, (ਭੀੜਾ ਸਮੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
In each and every age, He creates His devotees and preserves their honor, O Lord King.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ, ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਾਲਮ ਪਿਤਾ) ਚੰਦਰੇ ਹਰਣਾਖੁਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜਾਨੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤ) ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ (ਪਿਉ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਕਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਹੀ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ
The Lord killed the wicked Harnaakhash, and saved Prahlaad.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੋਭ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
Your devotees are pleasing to Your Mind, Lord. They look beautiful at Your door, singing Your Praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ,
O Nanak, those who are denied Your Grace, find no shelter at Your Door; they continue wandering.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ (ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨੇਕ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ),
The Lord's humble servant is called the most exalted Saint; he obeys the Command of the Lord's Order, and obtains peace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਠੀਕ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Whatever is pleasing to the Lord, he accepts as True; he enshrines the Lord's Will within his mind. ||4||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਸਲ) ਭਗਤ ਹਨ (ਅਸਲ) ਸੇਵਕ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They are devotees, and they are servants, O my soul, who are pleasing to the Mind of my God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਕਾਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They are robed in honor in the Court of the Lord, O my soul; night and day, they remain absorbed in the True Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
Tens of thousands of devotees worship Him in adoration.
(ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਤਪੀ ਤਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
Tens of thousands of ascetics practice austere discipline.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Under Guru's Instruction, he is blessed with glorious greatness; he drinks in the essence of the True Word of the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਇਕ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, devotional worship of the Lord is wonderful, but only a few Gurmukhs perform it. ||1||
ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਭਗਤ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone is a devotee, who looks alike upon pleasure and pain; he is imbued with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ।੧।
O Lord, show Your Mercy, show Your Mercy, and let me meet the True Guru, the Giver of peace. ||1||
ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
He Himself is pleased with His humble devotees; my Beloved Lord attaches them to Himself.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਛੱਤ੍ਰ ਝੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ
The Lord blesses His humble devotees with royalty; He fashions the true crown upon their heads.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ (ਅੱਖੀਂ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru, who has shown me this wondrous play.
(ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਇਸ) ਲੁਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ ।੪।
The world is being consumed by this hidden fire, but Maya does not cling to the Lord's devotees. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਅਖਵਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ,
They alone are devotees, who are pleasing to the True Lord.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
They are freed from the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਤੇ ਘਿਉ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੁੱਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ (ਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਲੱਗ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ)
No one says that ghee or silk are polluted.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ) ਭਗਤ ਭੀ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Such is the Lord's devotee, no matter what his social status is.
ਭਾਰਾ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਸੂਰਮਾ, ਚਾਹੇ ਛੱਤਰਪਤੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Among the religious scholars, warriors and kings, there is no other equal to the Lord's devotee.
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਊ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ), ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚੁਪੱਤੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਹਰੀ) ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।੨।
As the leaves of the water lily float free in the water, says Ravi Daas, so is their life in the world. ||3||2||
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਫਿਰ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੭।
He Himself kills, and brings back to life; He does not have even an iota of greed. ||7||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ, ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੰਗਾਲ-ਮੰਗਤੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ । (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।
Some are made givers, and some are made beggars; He Himself inspires us to devotional worship. ||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ) ਭਗਤ ਹੈ ।
One who merely mouths the words, does not understand the Hukam of the True Lord's Command.
ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਕੱਚਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਅੱਲ੍ਹੜ ਮਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
O Nanak, one who accepts the Will of the Lord is His devotee. Without accepting it, he is the falsest of the false. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One, into whose hands the treasure comes, stops searching.
ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਤ ਸਮਝੋ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ,
He alone is known as a devotee, who loves the One Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The devotees of the Lord dwell forever in peace.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਵੈਰ-ਵਿਰੋਧ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਿਰਕਤ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
With a child-like, innocent nature, they remain detached, turning away from the world.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ
The Saints have shared the Teachings with me.
ਕਿ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
Blessed is that country where the devotees of the Lord of the Universe dwell.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਅਸਲ) ਭਗਤ ਉਹ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ,
They alone are devotees, who are pleasing to the Mind of the True Guru.
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ
Night and day, they remain lovingly attuned to the Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
You Yourself created the comings and goings of reincarnation.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ, ਤੇ) ਉਹੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅਸਲ) ਭਗਤ ਹਨ ।੨।
They alone are devotees, who focus their consciousness on You. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਦੇਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪਣਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ) ਵੰਡ ਦੇਵੇ,
and when there is nothing to share, then share with others.
ਕਿਸੇ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਭਗਤ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੨੮।
How rare is one who is known as such a devotee. ||128||
