ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ-(ਇਹੀ ਇਕ ਵਿਧੀ ਹੈ)। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਇਹ ਵਿਧੀ) ਧੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਜਦ ਤੋਂ ਜਗਤ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਲਿਖੀ ਚਲੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukam of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. ||1||
ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਇਹ) ਹੁਕਮ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
By His Command, bodies are created; His Command cannot be described.
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ (ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਰ ’ਤੇ) ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
By His Command, souls come into being; by His Command, glory and greatness are obtained.
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗਾ (ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੈੜਾ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਲਿਖੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਭੋਗੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
By His Command, some are high and some are low; by His Written Command, pain and pleasure are obtained.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋ ਆਕੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
Everyone is subject to His Command; no one is beyond His Command.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਰਥ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਰਥੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।
O Nanak, one who understands His Command, does not speak in ego. ||2||
ਹੁਕਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ) ਰਸਤਾ ਚਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
The Commander, by His Command, leads us to walk on the Path.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਹ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
O Nanak, He blossoms forth, Carefree and Untroubled. ||3||
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖ ਸਕਦੇ-‘ਇਉਂ ਨ ਕਰੀਂ, ਇਉਂ ਕਰ’)।
He does whatever He pleases. No order can be issued to Him.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ (ਹੀ ਫਬਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨੭।
He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||27||
ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਭਵਣ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਰ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ
There are worlds upon worlds of His Creation.
ਉਸੇ ਤਰੵਾਂ ਕਾਰ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
As He commands, so they exist.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੈਂਕੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਖਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ ‘ਇਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਉਂ ਕਰ’) ।
He does whatever He pleases. No one can issue any order to Him.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਫਬਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||1||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਤਖ਼ਤ ਉੱਤੇ) ਬੈਠਾ (ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਦਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾ ਸਕਾਂ,
issuing commands and collecting taxes-O Nanak, all of this could pass away like a puff of wind.
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਇਹ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਰਾਜ-ਭਾਗ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਤੇ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਨਾਹ ਬੈਠਾਂ, ਕਿਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿੱਸਰ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏਂ, ਕਿਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਹ ।੪।੧।
Seeing these, I might go astray and forget You, and Your Name would not enter into my mind. ||4||1||
(ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੁਕਮ (ਮਨਾਣਾ) ਤੇ (ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਣੇ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਨੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ
The Hukam of Your Command is the pleasure of Your Will, Lord. To say anything else is far beyond anyone's reach.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਐਸੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਹੋਰ ਪੁੱਛ-ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਬਿਵ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੈ) ।੪।
O Nanak, the True King does not seek advice from anyone else in His decisions. ||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
He Himself beholds, and He Himself listens. By His Creative Power, He created the world.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜੋ ਹੁਕਮ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੩੧।
Whatever pleases Him, O Nanak-that Command is acceptable. ||4||31||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਰਲਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ
Through the Guru's Teachings, praise the True One, who has no end or limitation.
(ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹ
He dwells in each and every heart, by the Hukam of His Command; by His Hukam, we contemplate Him.
ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਨੰੂ (ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ! ਤੂੰ) ਬੈਠ ਕੇ (ਇਹ) ਅਟੱਲ ਧਰਮ (-ਨਿਆਂ) ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖ
The Righteous Judge of Dharma, by the Hukam of God's Command, sits and administers True Justice.
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਈਅਤ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ
Those evil souls, ensnared by the love of duality, are subject to Your Command.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਡਰ-ਖ਼ਤਰਾ-ਝਾਕਾ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾਏ, ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੜੀ ਆਕੜ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਕਰੇ
They issue their commands fearlessly, and act in pride.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
They subdue all under their command, but without the Name, they are reduced to dust. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਖੇਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਾਢੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦਾਤਰੇ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ
Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive.
(ਉਹ ਵਾਢੇ ਖੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਵੱਢ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਖੇਤ ਮਿਣ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਦੋਂ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਮ ਆ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਚਾਹੇ ਬਾਲ-ਉਮਰ ਹੋਣ, ਚਾਹੇ ਜਵਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਬੁੱਢੇ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਣ) ।੨।
When the landlord gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈ, ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ
The extent of Your Command cannot be seen; no one knows how to write it.
ਜੇ ਸੌ ਕਵੀ ਭੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਤਿਲ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੇ
Even if a hundred poets met together, they could not describe even a tiny bit of it.
ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ । ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Greatness is only in His Great Hands; He gives to those with whom He is pleased.
ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਢਿੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੬।
By the Hukam of His Command, He Himself regenerates, without a moment's delay. ||6||
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ
The wretched fools do not know the Lord's Will; they wander around making mistakes.
ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ (ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਸਦਾ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
They go about their business stubborn-mindedly; they are disgraced forever and ever.
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਕੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਸਰਦਾਰੀਆਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹੋਣ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੋਵ
You may possess empires, vast estates, authority over others, and the enjoyment of myriads of pleasures;
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਾਗ਼ ਹੋਣ, ਜੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ (ਹੋਏ) ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ
you may have delightful and beautiful gardens, and issue unquestioned commands;
(ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਉਹ ਹੈ) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
There, the Name of the One Lord is chanted.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ ।੫।
The One Name is the Lord's Command; O Nanak, the True Guru has given me this understanding. ||5||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Those, whom God causes to abide by His Will,
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਸਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ
have the Shabad of His Word abiding deep within.
ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਣ ਐਸਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਹੈ
Now, the Merciful Lord has issued His Command.
ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ
Let no one chase after and attack anyone else.
ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕਲਮ ਚੱਲਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਵੇਲੇ) ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
As God's Pen has written on your forehead, so it shall be with your soul.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਖ—ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ) ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਹਰ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਲਿਆ ।੧।
Says Nanak, in the first watch of the night, by the Hukam of the Lord's Command, you enter into the womb. ||1||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਭਾਣੇ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਕਲਪਣਾ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ
One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੀ) ਨੀਂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੌਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ)
She is filled with deception, and she cannot sleep in peace.
ਪਰ, ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ
The self-willed manmukhs die in egotism-even their death is painfully ugly.
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ ? ਸਭ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਣਾ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹ
Everything happens according to the Lord's Will; what can the poor people do?
(ਉਸ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਰੋਸ ? (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਰਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਦੋ ਹਨ (ਹਰੀ ਨਾਲ) ਪਿਆਰ ਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ) ਪਿਆਰ; (ਤੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ) ਕਾਰ ਪਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Loving attention to the Lord and attachment to Maya are the two separate ways; all act according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.
(ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ, ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕਸਵੱਟੀ ਲਾ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਰਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
The Gurmukh has conquered his own mind, by applying the Touchstone of the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾੳਂੁਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਨਿਊਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
Meditate on that Name of the Lord, O my mind, whose Command rules over all.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਜੋ ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇਂ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਡਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
Chant that Name of the Lord, O my mind, which will save you at the very last moment.
ਝੂਠੀ, ਮਾਨੋ ਖੋਟੀ, ਭੈੜੇ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੇ ਕਰੂਪ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਗਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ
She may wear good clothes, but the bride is ugly and rude; her mind is false and impure.
(ਪਰ) ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਦੀ, (ਸਗੋਂ) ਮੂਰਖ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਪਤੀ ਤੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਸਿੱਟਾ ਇਹ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)
She does not walk in harmony with the Will of her Husband Lord. Instead, she foolishly gives Him orders.
ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord and Master's Command is pleasing to the mind of His servant.
ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਉਹੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
He does that which pleases his Lord and Master. Inwardly and outwardly, the servant knows his Lord. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ
This is the sign of union with God:
(ਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
in the mind, the Command of the True Lord is recognized.
(ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਥਾਂ (ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਚੰਗੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Wherever He keeps us is a good place.
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਕਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
That person is clever and honorable, unto whom the Hukam of the Lord's Command seems sweet. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਝਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ
By His Command, all are attuned to the Word of the Shabad,
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਦ ਲਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
and all are called to the Mansion of His Presence, the True Court of the Lord.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਮਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who recognize the Hukam of the Lord's Command chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਸਮੇਤ (ਇਥੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are glorified with the Naam.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਰੋਆ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਢੰਗ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The One who created them, knows their condition.
ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਰੋਆ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
And if He inspires them, then they realize the Hukam of His Command.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਿੱਤ-ਚੇਤੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
That which God does is beyond anyone's consciousness;
ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ (ਭੀ) ਮੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
no one can erase the Hukam of His Command.
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ ?) ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਆਤਮਾ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ ਤੁਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ) ।
The filthy, and the immaculate as well, are all subject to the Hukam of God's Command.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They alone are immaculate, who are pleasing to the True Lord.
ਜੇ ਜੀਭ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬੋਲੀਏ, (ਭਾਵ ਜੇ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਹਟਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਭ ਤੋਂ ਬੋਲਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਲਈਏ), —ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਿਊਂਦਿਆਂ ਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
to speak without a tongue-like this, one remains dead while yet alive.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਛਾਣੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਏ ਕਿ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਰਤਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਈਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
O Nanak, recognize the Hukam of the Lord's Command, and merge with your Lord and Master. ||1||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਨ ਸੁਆਹ (ਸਮਾਨ) ਹੈ ।
Without God's Name, there is no other wealth. Everything else is just poison and ashes.
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਸਭ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਕੱਚ ਤੇ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰ) ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
O Nanak, the Lord Himself acts, and causes others to act; by the Hukam of His Command, we are embellished and exalted. ||7||
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਆਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਮਝ ਲਵੋ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਦਾ ਲਿਹਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ) ।
The True Lord's Sovereign Rule is known throughout the ages.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who respects the Hukam of the Lord's Command is honored and respected in the Court of the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
True is the Hukam of Your Command. To the Gurmukh, it is known.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Through the Guru's Teachings, selfishness and conceit are eradicated, and the Truth is realized.
(ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਬਾਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ) ਆਖਣਾ-ਵੇਖਣਾ, ਇਹ ਬੋਲ-ਚਾਲ, ਇਹ ਜੀਉਂਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਨਾ (ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਮਾਇਆ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ।
Talking, seeing, speaking, walking, living and dying-all these are transitory.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਹੁਕਮ (-ਰੂਪ ਸੱਤਿਆ) ਰਚ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
By the Hukam of His Command, He creates, and in His Command, He keeps us. O Nanak, He Himself is True. ||2||
ਕਦੇ (ਇਹ ਮਤਿ-ਰੂਪ ਪੰਛੀ) ਚੰਦਨ (ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ) ਤੇ (ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ) ਕਦੇ ਅੱਕ ਦੀ ਡਾਲੀ ਉੱਤੇ, ਕਦੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉੱਚੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ ।
Sometimes it is perched on the sandalwood tree, and sometimes it is on the branch of the poisonous swallow-wort. Sometimes, it soars through the heavens.
(ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ (ਧੁਰੋਂ) ਰੀਤ ਤੁਰੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਉਹ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗੀ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।
O Nanak, our Lord and Master leads us on, according to the Hukam of His Command; such is His Way. ||2||
ਧੁਰੋਂ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੀ ਇਉਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਅੱਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਸ ਅੱਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਰਖਪੁਣੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧੱਕਾ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By the pre-ordained Order of our Lord and Master, they are beaten badly, and struck down.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਖਹਿਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।
If the self-willed manmukhs fight with the Gurmukh, they are condemned by the Lord, the True Judge.
(ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਕ) ਅੱਪੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ (ਬੈਠੀਆਂ) ਸੋਭਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
She is beautiful in the Company of her Lord and Master; she walks in the Way of His Will.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸਖੀ-ਭਾਵਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
With her dear friends, she offers her heart-felt prayers to her Beloved.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
By the Hukam of His Command we come, and by the Hukam of His Command we go.
ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Before and after, His Command is pervading. ||2||
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਉਤੇ ਦਸਾਂ ਦਰਵਾਜਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਵਜੂਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ।
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, the castle of the body has ten gates.
ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜ ਮੰਦ-ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵੇਗ, ਅਨੰਤ ਰਬੀ ਨੂਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ!
The five passions dwell there, together with the Divine Light of the Infinite.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ !) ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਅੱਗ ਵਾਂਗ ਤਪ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਛੁਰੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।
My soul is burning like fire, and the knife is cutting deep.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।੫।੧੭।
Prays Nanak, recognizing the Lord's Command, I am at peace, day and night. ||6||5||17||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਹੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ । ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ । ਉੱਦਮ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
O Nanak, the One who created the creation - He alone takes care of it.
(ਉੱਦਮ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਬਾਰੇ) ਉਸ ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ) ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਤੇ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਖਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ । ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਰਹੋ) ।੪।੧।੧੮।
The Hukam of our Lord and Master's Command cannot be known; He Himself blesses us with greatness. ||4||1||18||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ (ਵਿਲਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ?
Why are you screaming and shouting, you fool?
(ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ) ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ (ਪਿਛਲੇ) ਸੰਜੋਗ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਆਦਿਕ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ (ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਇਹ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਕਾਇਮ ਹੈ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
By good destiny and the Lord's Order, you have come into the world. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵਾਪਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Whatever happens, is all according to Your Will.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
One who understands the Hukam of the Lord's Command, is absorbed in the True Lord. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਨ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਗਏ ।
The devotees have found the treasure of the Naam; their minds and bodies are satisfied and satiated.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।੧੨।੧੩੩।
O Nanak, the Dear Lord gives it only to those who surrender to the Lord's Command. ||3||12||133||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕੋ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਹੋ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪਾ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Renounce the intellectual cleverness of your mind, O humble servants of the Lord; understanding the Hukam of His Command, peace is found.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ), ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨੋ ।੧।
Whatever God does, accept that with pleasure; in comfort and in suffering, meditate on Him. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਹੁਣ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਉਸ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।
My consciousness is attuned to the Lord, by the Order of the Infinite.
ਜਾਤਿ-ਵਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਧਰਮ-ਕਰਮ ਬੱਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
My pursuit for worldy pride and honour is over.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੀਖਿਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
The Lord's Love is my instruction, sermon and food.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਕੁਰ ਫੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਘਰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਾਂ ।੬।
Enjoined to the Lord's Command, I have entered the home of my inner self. ||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ
I do not speak empty speech; I have recognized the Hukam of His Command.
(ਭਾਵ, ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।੮।੧।
Nanak is absorbed in intuitive peace through the Guru's Teachings. ||8||1||
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
The Command of the One Lord prevails throughout all the worlds.
ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।੭।
From the One, all have arisen. ||7||
(ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਰਸਤੇ ਚੱਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (—ਗੁਰਮੁਖਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ) ।
There are two routes, but remember that their Lord and Master is only One.
(ਪਰ ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਭ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਵਰਤਦਾ) ਜਾਣ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਪਛਾਣ ।੮।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Hukam of the Lord's Command. ||8||
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਝੂਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋਲਦੇ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੋਲ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ
They speak the Truth - not an iota of falsehood.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Gurmukhs walk in the Way of the Lord's Command.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਵਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The mind of the Gurmukh is pierced through and held steady.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
One who recognizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command understands the True Lord. ||4||
ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਆਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।
By His Command, we come, and by His Command, we go; no one is beyond His Command.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ) ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ (ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Coming and going in reincarnation is ended, O Nanak, for those whose minds are filled with the Lord. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ),
In this Maya, they are born and die.
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ ?) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
People act according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰੰਞਾਣ ਮਨ! ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਛੱਡ ।
SASSA: Give up your clever tricks, you ignorant fool!
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਕੜ ਵਿਖਾਇਆਂ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
God is not pleased with clever tricks and commands.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who abides by the Lord's Will,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੱਭ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।੧।
O Nanak, obtains all things. ||1||
(ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
By His Order, He established the earth, and He maintains it unsupported.
(ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By His Order, the world was created; by His Order, it shall merge again into Him.
ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Understanding His Order, there is peace.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ।
So take His Name, and wear it as your necklace.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ;
They know the past and the present.
(ਸੇਵਕ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
They recognize God's Own Command.
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਫੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ।
The servant's purpose is to serve;
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
obeying the Lord's Command, the supreme status is obtained.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ, ਓਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਬੰਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ (ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ) ਦਾ ਠੱਗਿਆ (ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,)
One who does not obey the Hukam, the Command of the Perfect Guru - that self-willed manmukh is plundered by his ignorance and poisoned by Maya.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਝੂਠ ਹੈ (ਸੱਚ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਹ) ਝੂਠ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਖਸਮ ਨੇ (ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਝਗੜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ,
Within him is falsehood, and he sees everyone else as false; the Lord has tied these useless conflicts around his neck.
(ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਇਸ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ) ਕੋਈ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਂ ਚਿਹਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
This mind has no form or outline.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਇਹ (ਵੱਖਰੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ) ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
By God's Command it was created; understanding God's Command, it will be absorbed into Him again. ||7||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ),
When it is pleasing to Him, then He inspires us to obey the Hukam of His Command.
ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੂਰ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
He causes this boat to cross over. ||2||
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰੇਗਾ । ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਗੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ—ਇਉਂ ਨ ਕਰੀਂ, ਇਉਂ ਕਰ)
Whatever pleases Him, that is what He does. No one can issue any commands to Him.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ (ਹੀ ਫੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
He is the King, the King of Kings, the Emperor of Kings! Nanak lives in surrender to His Will. ||1||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿਰ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ) ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command, goes to Him openly.
ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ ।੩।
With the password of truth, his way is not blocked. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The Order of Your Will is so sweet, O Lord; this is pleasing to You.
(ਸੋ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O Nanak, he alone is honored with greatness, who is absorbed in the True Name. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਡੇ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਇਕੱਠ ਸਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਕਰਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਪਈ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ ।
The deeds are done according to pre-ordained destiny; no one can turn back this Order.
ਫਿਰ ਜੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ) ਉਘੜਦਾ ਚਲਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲੀਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਦਾ ਇਕੋ ਇਕ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ—ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ) ।੨।
As it is written, so it comes to pass; no one can erase it. ||2||
ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਇਉਂ ਵਾਹੀ-ਤਬਾਹੀ ਭੀ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ ਜੇ ਜੀ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਦ ਤੋਂ) ਛੱਡ ਭੀ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ
He may proclaim, "I can kill anyone, I can capture anyone, and I can release anyone."
ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੌਤ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
But when the Order comes from the Supreme Lord God, he departs and leaves in a day. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ
Understanding the Command of the Lord's Will, I revel in pleasure and joy.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੜੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੨।
Serving the True Guru, I obtain the supreme state of Nirvaanaa. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜੇ-ਮੱਥੇ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
He alone, who understands the Command of the Lord's Will, is approved.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਹੈ
The True Shabad of the Word of God is his trademark and insignia. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਿਸ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਦਸੀਂ ਮਹੀਨੀਂ ਪੱੁਤਰ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ
In the tenth month, by the Lord's Order, the baby has been born.
(ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਘਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਗ਼ਮ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
Sorrow is dispelled, and great joy has ensued.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ,
Your Command is infinite; no one can find its limit.
(ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
One who meets with the Perfect Guru, walks in the Way of the Lord's Will. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਹ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
Taking me by the hand, He made me His own, through the True Order of His Command.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਜੇਹੜੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਹੈ ।੨।
That gift which God gave to me, is perfect greatness. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤਕ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
As long as he does not understand the Command of God's Will, he remains miserable.
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੩।
Meeting with the Guru, he comes to recognize God's Will, and then, he becomes happy. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਨਾਹ ਰਾਜ, ਨਾਹ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਨਾਹ ਹੁਕੂਮਤ ਨਾਹ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਖਾਣੇ—
Imperial power, fortunes, royal command and mansions
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ।੨।
- I have no desire for these. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਅਲੇਖ) ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣ (ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਹ)
Know that such a True Lord is the One and only.
ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਨਾ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Understand that birth and death come according to the Lord's Will. ||1||Pause||
ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਤੇ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
He gains the wisdom of the three worlds.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਅਭੁੱਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ।੨।
Through the True Guru, the Command of the Lord's Will is realized. ||2||
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਹ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਉਸਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਮੁੜ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He demolishes, and He builds; by His Order, he merges us into Himself.
ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Whatever is pleasing to His Will, happens.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਦੁਖ ਹੋਵੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਪਾਸ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਫਰੋਲੀਏ?
Pleasure and pain come by Your Will; unto whom should we go and cry?
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਚਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । (ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਭੋਗੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।੧੨।
The Commander issues His Command, and is pleased. O Nanak, we receive what is written in our destiny. ||7||12||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮਰੇ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹੋ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ) ਇਹ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ।
Why do you weep for the dead? You do not know how to weep.
ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੋ, (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਸਮਝੋ (ਕਿ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਨਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਵੈਰਾਗ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਸਿੱਖੋ ।
Weep by praising the True Lord, and recognize His Command. ||3||
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਲਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Blessed is the birth of one who is destined to abide by the Lord's Command.
ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਨਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਾਭ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He obtains the true profit, realizing the Lord's Command. ||4||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ) ਕੋਈ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ।੩।
No misfortune troubles one who follows the Command of the Lord's Will. ||3||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਖਰਾ ਸਿੱਕਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
One who follows the Command of the Lord's Will is taken into the Lord's Treasury.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ!) ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੰਜੋਗਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ, ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਤੁਰ (ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੰਗ, ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਹੈ) ।
By His Command, and through your past actions, you came into the world; walk forever according to His Will.
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਰੂਪ) ਗੁਣ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ (ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੮।੨੦।
Please, grant virtue to Nanak, the virtueless one; bless him with the glorious greatness of the Truth. ||8||20||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਇਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਰਚੇ, ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ।
You gave the four Vedas to Brahma, for him to read and read continually, and reflect upon.
ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ।੬।
The wretched one does not understand His Command, and is reincarnated into heaven and hell. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ
The Command of the One Lord is pervading throughout; duty to the One Lord is upon the heads of all.
ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੫।
He Himself has led them astray, and placed greed and corruption within their hearts. ||5||
ਜੋ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ; ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਨੱਥਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
Khakha: The Creator is the King of the world; He enslaves by giving nourishment.
ਤੇ (ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਅਪੜਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਮੁੱਚ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤਾਂ) ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਝ ।੬।
By His Binding, all the world is bound; no other Command prevails. ||6||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! (ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਭੀ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
Jhajha: O mortal being, why are you dying of anxiety? Whatever the Lord is to give, He shall keep on giving.
ਤੇ (ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਵੰਡਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੇਰਾ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹੋਣਾ ਕਿਸ ਅਰਥ, ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ?) ।੧੨।
He gives, and gives, and watches over us; according to the Orders which He issues, His beings receive nourishment. ||12||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Dhadha: He Himself establishes and disestablishes; as it pleases His Will, so does He act.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । (ਜੀਵ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੭।
Having created the creation, He watches over it; He issues His Commands, and emancipates those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace. ||17||
ਜਿਸ ਹਰੀ ਨੇ (ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਕੌਤਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਰੰਗਾ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਰੱਚ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
Dhadha: His power established and upholds the earth; the Lord has imparted His color to everything.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਨਿਰੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਚੰੁਚ-ਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੰਵਾਰਦੀ, ਆਪਣੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਠੀਕ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ) ।੨੨।
His gifts are received by everyone; all act according to His Command. ||22||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੀ ਰਚੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
Lalla: He has assigned people to their tasks, and made the love of Maya seem sweet to them.
ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਖ) ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਖ ਭੀ ਸਹਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਹੈ) ।੩੧।
We eat and drink; we should endure equally whatever occurs, by His Will, by His Command. ||31||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The One Lord is pervading the water, the land and the sky; the Gurmukh realizes the Command of His Will.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਉਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who realizes the Lord's Command, obtains all peace and comforts.
ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਬੜਾ ਡਾਢਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ) ।(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Command of Your Will is very strict; how rare is the Gurmukh who understands.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ।੯।
Thus says Nanak: what can the poor creatures do, when You mislead them into doubt? ||9||
ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ (ਸ਼ਾਹੀ) ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਨ ਭੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਹਨ ।
True is the Command of Your Will, True is Your Order.
ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਥਿਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਭੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ) ਸਦਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਾਇਮ ਹੈ ।
True is Your Mercy, True is Your Insignia.
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
This world is the room of the True Lord; within it is the dwelling of the True Lord.
ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਡੋਬ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By His Command, some are merged into Him, and some, by His Command, are destroyed.
ਗਿਆਨ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਗਿਆਨ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ—ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ) ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਇਉਂ ਕਰੜਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੋਹਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ) ।
Wisdom cannot be found through mere words. To explain it is as hard as iron.
(ਹਾਂ) ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ) ਹੋਰ ਚਾਰਾਜੋਈ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ (ਵਰਤਣਾ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ ।੨।
When the Lord bestows His Grace, then alone it is received; other tricks and orders are useless. ||2||
(ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਉਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਅੱਡਰੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਭਰਮ ਕਿੱਥੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Where does ego come from? How can it be removed?
(ਇਸ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਰ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਹ ਵਖਰੀ ਸ਼ਖ਼ਸੀਅਤ-ਬਣਾਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮੁੜ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਨ ਵਲ ਦੌੜਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਖ਼ਸੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ) ।
This ego exists by the Lord's Order; people wander according to their past actions.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਮਨ-ਮੰਨੀਆਂ ਹਕੂਮਤਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਔਖੀਆਂ ਘਾਟੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਵਧੀਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਸਹਿਣੇ ਪੈਣਗੇ) ।
He may issue whatever commands he wishes, but he shall have to take to the narrow path hereafter.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
That servant, whom the Lord causes to obey the Order of His Will, serves Him.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Obeying the Order of His Will, he becomes acceptable, and then, he obtains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
ਸੂਤਕ ਨਿਰਾ ਭਰਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ (ਸੂਤਕ-ਰੂਪ ਭਰਮ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।
All impurity comes from doubt and attachment to duality.
(ਉਞ ਤਾਂ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Birth and death are subject to the Command of the Lord's Will; through His Will we come and go.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆਂ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
By His Command, when He places His hand on our foreheads, wickedness departs from within.
ਜੇ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਾਨੋ, ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧੮।
When the Lord is thoroughly pleased, the nine treasures are obtained. ||18||
ਖਸਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਹੀ ਫਬਦੀ ਹੈ ।
No one can issue commands to the Lord Master; offer instead humble prayers.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਧੋਖੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਧੋਖਾ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Practicing falsehood, only falsehood is obtained. O Nanak, through the Lord's Praise, one blossoms forth. ||3||
ਹੁਕਮ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਤੋਂ ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
They alone obey the Lord's Command, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਾਲੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Obeying His Command, one obtains peace, and becomes the happy, loving soul-bride. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Those who obey the Hukam of the Lord's Command, are the perfect persons in the world.
ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
They serve their Lord Master, and reflect upon the Perfect Word of the Shabad.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
As is the Hukam of Your Command, so do things happen.
ਜਿਥੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਓਥੇ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਜਾ ਖਲੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Wherever You keep me, there I go and stand.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੂਰਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਕੁਝ ਵੱਡਾ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
If some fool believes that he is the creator, he is blind, and acts in blindness.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
O Nanak, the Gurmukh understands the Hukam of the Lord's Command; the Lord showers His Mercy upon him. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਢੋ ਢੁਕਣ ਨਾਲ (ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਇਥੋਂ) ਕੂਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
By the Hukam of God's Will, they come into this world, and they leave upon receipt of His Hukam.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਇਥੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ
By His Hukam, the Expanse of the Universe is expanded. By His Hukam, they enjoy pleasures.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ
One who realizes the Hukam of God's Command, by the Grace of the Guru,
ਤੇ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚਲੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਉਸ ਵਿਧੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਸਹੀ-ਸਲਾਮਤ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
comes to know the lifestyle of the ages.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
By the Hukam of His Command, He created the entire Universe.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਆਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ) ।੩।
Whoever submits to His Command, finds peace; His Command is above the heads of kings and emperors. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਹੁਕਮ (ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ) ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
In the world hereafter, the Hukam of Your Command is heard.
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਚਾਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।
In this world, I chant Your Praises, Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ,
That humble being who obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command is accepted.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is blessed with the insignia and the banner of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਕਲਮ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਗਦੀ ਹੈ ।
According to His Hukam, He commands them. His Pen writes out the account of their actions.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
O Nanak, True is the Lord, and True is His Name. True is His Congregation and His Court. ||2||
Your Command, O God, rules in the four directions; Your Name pervades the four corners of the nether regions as well.
The True Word of the Shabad is pervading amongst all. By His Grace, the Eternal One unites us with Himself.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
In Dhanaasaree, the soul-bride is known to be wealthy, O Siblings of Destiny, when she works for the True Guru.
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਸਮੇਤ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ-ਤੋਰ ਤੁਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
She surrenders her body, mind and soul, O Siblings of Destiny, and lives according to the Hukam of His Command.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ) ਰਜ਼ਾ (ਮਿੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Nanak: they alone submit to His Command, O Siblings of Destiny, who are pre-destined to live the Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੫੧।
I am a sacrifice to them, O Siblings of Destiny, I am forever a sacrifice to them. ||51||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰੇਰ ਕੇ (ਇੰਦਰ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਨੂੰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ) ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The Primal Lord and Master has sent out the True Hukam of His Command.
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੱਦਲ (-ਗੁਰੂ) ਡੰੂਘੀ ਝੜੀ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Indra mercifully sends forth the rain, which falls in torrents.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਿਹ ਕੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Gurmukh obeys the Order of her Husband Lord God; through the Hukam of His Command, she finds peace.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਿਹ ਕੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In His Will, she serves; in His Will, she worship and adores Him.
