(ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤਾਂ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ (ਤੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਪੜਾਣਗੇ) ।
Nothing else will work.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਕਰ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਭੀ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਣ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਲਾਭ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇਂ) ।੧।
Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ
In the midst of this world, do seva,
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਣ ਨੂੰ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
and you shall be given a place of honor in the Court of the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਨ ਕਮਾਣ ਲਈ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਲੀ (ਵਰਗਾ ਉੱਦਮੀ) ਬਣਾ, ਉਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹੀ ਸਮਝ, ਮੇਹਨਤ (ਨਾਮ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਹੀ) ਪੈਲੀ ਹੈ ।
Make your mind the farmer, good deeds the farm, modesty the water, and your body the field.
(ਇਸ ਪੈਲੀ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੀਜ, (ਬੀ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਛੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਹਾਗਾ ਫੇਰਨਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਮ-ਬੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ) ਸੰਤੋਖ (ਨਾਮ-ਬੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ) ਸੁਹਾਗਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ (ਨਾਮ-ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ
Let the Lord's Name be the seed, contentment the plow, and your humble dress the fence.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨੌਕਰ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਕਮਾਣ ਲਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਪੂਰੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ) ਨੌਕਰੀ ਕਰ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਨੌਕਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਰੱਖ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ।
Let your service be the focusing of your consciousness, and let your occupation be the placing of faith in the Naam.
ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਉਣੋਂ) ਰੋਕ ਦੇ, ਇਹ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ । (ਜੇ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ) ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ ਆਖੇਗਾ ।
Let your work be restraint from sin; only then will people call you blessed.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
O my mind, meditate on the Guru, and God, the Cherisher of the world.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Seeking His Sanctuary, one finds peace, and he shall not suffer in pain again. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises day and night,
ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈਦਾ
I shall not be consigned to reincarnation again. ||3||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾ
O mind, love the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, ਅਤੇ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਤਾਮਾ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
With your ears, hear the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and with your tongue, sing His song. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ
His creative potency and His value cannot be known; He is the Great and carefree Lord.
ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਆਸ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।੩।
O human being, meditate on the Lord, as long as there is breath in your body. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ) ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਖੋਜ, (ਬਹਿਸ ਮੁਬਾਹਸੇ ਦੀ) ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਭਟਕ
O human being, search your own heart every day, and do not wander around in confusion.
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਇਕ ਜਾਦੂ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਵਾਦ-ਵਿਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਹੱਥ-ਪੱਲੇ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਨਹੀਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
This world is just a magic-show; no one will be holding your hand. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਿੱਖੋ! ਆਵੋ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਰਲ ਕੇ) ਗਾਵੋ ।
Come, O beloved Sikhs of the True Guru, and sing the True Word of His Bani.
ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵੋ, ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਹੈ ।
Sing the Guru's Bani, the supreme Word of Words.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ—ਇਹ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿਮਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੈ ।੨।
Meditation, meditation - sublime is meditation on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਲਈ ਲੋਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਤਿਆਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਣਾ—ਇਹ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਤਿਆਗਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਤਿਆਗ ਹੈ ।੩।
Renunciation, renunciation - noble is the renunciation of sexual desire, anger and greed. ||3||
ਹੇ ਫਰੀਦ! ਉਹ ਕੋਝੇ ਕੰਮ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੋਈ) ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
Fareed, those deeds which do not bring merit - forget about those deeds.
ਮਤਾਂ ਖਸਮ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਏ ।੫੯।
Otherwise, you shall be put to shame, in the Court of the Lord. ||59||
