ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੜਚੋਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਅਸਲ) ਪਾਰਖੂ ਸਮਝੋ,
O Nanak, if someone judges himself, only then is he known as a real judge.
(ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਰੋਗ ਲੱਭਣ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹਕੀਮ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੋ ।
If someone understands both the disease and the medicine, only then is he a wise physician.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ) ਸਿੱਖ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ) ਵੈਦ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He alone is said to be a Guru, he alone is said to be a Sikh, and he alone is said to be a physician, who knows the patient's illness.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ-ਧੰਧਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ । (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਸਦਕਾ) ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ (ਫਸਦਾ), ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ (ਹੰੁਦਾ ਭੀ) ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ ।੫।
He is not affected by actions, responsibilities and entanglements; in the entanglements of his household, he maintains the detachment of Yoga. ||5||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਪੂਰਾ) ਹਕੀਮ ਹੈ ।
My physician is the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.
(ਇਹ ਹਕੀਮ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਵਾਈ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਜਮ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He places the medicine of the Naam into my mouth, and cuts away the noose of Death. ||1||Pause||
ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਹਕੀਮ ਬਣੇਂ
O Lord, my King, Gardener of the world-garden, be my Physician,
ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਦੇਹ-ਅੱਧਿਆਸ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਕੀਮ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਹ-ਅੱਧਿਆਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
and save me, Your Saint. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹਕੀਮ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
By the Grace of the Saints, the Lord has become my physician; God alone is the Doer, the Cause of causes.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੮।੧੩।
He is the Giver of perfect peace to the innocent-minded people; O Nanak, the Lord, Har, Har, is my support. ||2||8||13||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਹਟਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹਕੀਮ ਹੈ,
The Lord Himself is the true physician.
ਇਹ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹਕੀਮ (ਪਖੰਡੀ ਧਰਮ-ਆਗੂ) ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਗੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਚੰਬੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ;
These physicians of the world only burden the soul with pain.
ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੇ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਦੀ ਤੜਫ ਹੋਵੇ,
He alone knows this, who feels the pain of separation from God.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਤੀਰ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਣ । ਸਰੀਰਕ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਬਿਰਹੋਂ-ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ।੧।
My body is pierced through with the arrow of love. How can any physician know the cure? ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪੇ੍ਰਮ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹਕੀਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Other than the True Guru, there is no physician.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ) ।
He Himself is the Immaculate Lord.
ਤੇ ਇਕ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਦ ਤਕ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਰੋਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਰੋਗ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਕਾਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ)
Another pain is the disease consuming my body.
ਹੇ ਭੋਲੇ ਵੈਦ! ਤੂੰ ਦਵਾਈ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਹ (ਕਿਸ ਕਿਸ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ?
O foolish doctor, don't give me medicine. ||1||
ਹਕੀਮ (ਮਰੀਜ਼ ਨੂੰ) ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਸੱਦਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਮਰੀਜ਼ ਦੀ) ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਨਾੜੀ) ਟੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ
The physician was called in; he touched my arm and felt my pulse.
ਅੰਞਾਣ ਹਕੀਮ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੀ) ਪੀੜ (ਬਿਰਹੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
The foolish physician did not know that the pain was in the mind. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ)! ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਲੱਭ
O physician, you are a competent physician, if you first diagnose the disease.
ਦਵਾਈ ਭਾਲ ਲੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ
Prescribe such a remedy, by which all sorts of illnesses may be cured.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹਕੀਮਾਂ (ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ) ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ
The physicians meet together in their assembly.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਤੇ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਦਵਾਈ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਅਸਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਇਕੱਠ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
The medicines are effective, when the Lord Himself stands in their midst.
