ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਧਰਨ ਲਈ) ਮਾਲਣ ਪੱਤਰ ਤੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੀ ਕਿ) ਹਰੇਕ ਪੱਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ।
You tear off the leaves, O gardener, but in each and every leaf, there is life.
ਜਿਸ ਪੱਥਰ (ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਦੇ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ (ਮਾਲਣ) ਪੱਤਰ ਤੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰ (ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਨਿਰਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ।੧।
That stone idol, for which you tear off those leaves - that stone idol is lifeless. ||1||
ਜੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਚਰਨ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ) ਕੇਸਰ (ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਰਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਪਈ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ।੧।
for saffron, I would offer good deeds; thus, I perform worship and adoration within my heart. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪੂਜਾ (ਐਸੀ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਜੋ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Perform worship and adoration by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the Name, there is no worship and adoration. ||1||Pause||
(ਕਿਆ ਅਜਬ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਕ ਪੱਥਰ (ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹ
One stone is lovingly decorated,
ਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੈਰ ਧਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
while another stone is walked upon.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਹਉ) ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
The ignorant fools pick up stones and worship them.
(ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਜ ਕੇ) ਤੁਸੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਤਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਉ?
But when those stones themselves sink, who will carry you across? ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੇ, ਮੈਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ ।
Why worship gods and goddesses, O Siblings of Destiny? What can we ask of them? What can they give us?
ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਂਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ (ਪੱਥਰ ਦੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਜਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ।੬।
The stone gods are washed with water, O Siblings of Destiny, but they just sink in the water. ||6||
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ (ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਧਰ) ਸਿਜਦੇ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੱਬ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਝਗੜਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਕਿ ਸੱਚਾ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ) ।
Worshipping their idols, the Hindus die; the Muslims die bowing their heads.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ? ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਧਿਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਪਈ ।੧।
The Hindus cremate their dead, while the Muslims bury theirs; neither finds Your true state, Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਕਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸ ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਖਦਾ (ਸਮਝਦਾ) ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹ
That stone, which he calls his god,
ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਉਸ (ਪੁਜਾਰੀ) ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
that stone pulls him down and drowns him. ||2||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੱਥਰ (ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who call a stone their god
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
- their service is useless.
(ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਆਪਣੇ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਠਾਕਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
In your home, is the Lord God, along with all your other gods.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
You wash your stone gods and worship them.
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ (ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਮੁੱਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Kabeer, some buy idols and worship them; in their stubborn-mindedness, they make pilgrimages to sacred shrines.
ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਸਹੀ ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They look at one another, and wear religious robes, but they are deluded and lost. ||135||
