ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਅਪਣੱਤ (ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਚੁੜੇਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੜੱਪ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
By egotism and pride, the self-willed manmukhs are enticed, and consumed.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕਿਸੇ) ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਬੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Those who center their consciousness on duality are caught in it, and remain stuck.
(ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਦੇ) ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ (ਰੂਪ ਹੀ) ਹਨ ਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਜਾਂ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨਾਲ) ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਜਾਂ ਪੰੁਨ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ) ।
Rituals and religions are all just entanglements; bad and good are bound up with them.
ਮਮਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਭੀ ਬੰਧਨ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ—(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਭੀ) ਕਸ਼ਟ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੈ
Those things done for the sake of children and spouse, in ego and attachment, are just more bonds.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਅਪਣੱਤ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਿ ਏਹ ਸ਼ੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਧਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ,) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਦੰਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਖਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
The love of Maya is enticing; without teeth, it has eaten up the world.
ਮਨਮੁਖ (ਇਸ ‘ਮਮਤਾ’ ਵਿਚ) ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਬਚ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
The self-willed manmukhs are eaten away, while the Gurmukhs are saved; they focus their consciousness on the True Name.
ਹੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ! (ਪਖੰਡ-ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ,
Thirst and desire do not just go away, O renunciate.
ਸਗੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।
The body is burning in the fire of worldly love and attachment. ||4||
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! (ਵੇਖ,) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਚੰਬੋੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
The Creator has attached it to Maya and possessiveness.
(ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Enforcing His Order, He created the world.
