(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
This human body has been given to you.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹੀ ਮੌਕਾ ਹੈ ।
This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਮਨ!) (ਕਿਸੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਸਮਝ,
Reliance on mortals is in vain - know this well.
ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ;
The Great Giver is the One Lord God.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ!) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਨ
Other people may be your water-carriers;
ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਦਾਰੀ ਹੈ
in this world, you may be a ruler.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਅਜੇਹਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਜੰਮੇ? (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਾਹ ਆਇਆ) ।
Those who have not kept the Lord's Name in their consciousness - why did they bother to come into the world, O Lord King?
ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
It is so difficult to obtain this human incarnation, and without the Naam, it is all futile and useless.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਇਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਹਾਸੋ-ਹੀਣਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ);
How does the puppet of clay dance?
(ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਚਾਰ-ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਢੂੰਢਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਨੀਆਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ), (ਮਾਇਆ ਕਮਾਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ) ਦੌੜਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He looks and listens, hears and speaks, and runs around. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਈ ਜੁਗ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ । (ਹੁਣ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ
Wandering, wandering around for so many ages, he has grown weary, and finally, he obtained this human body.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ? ।੨।੨।
Says Nanak, this is the opportunity to meet the Lord; why don't you remember Him in meditation? ||2||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ
Out of all the 8.4 million species of beings,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ।
God blessed mankind with glory.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰੇਂ,
Serving the Guru, devotional worship is practiced.
ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਮਝ ।
Then, this human body is obtained.
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਅਸੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੁਤਲੀਆਂ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੱਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, we are puppets of clay, but we take the name of mankind.
ਅਸੀ ਇਥੇ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਵਧੀਕ ਵਧੀਕ ਥਾਂ ਮੱਲਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ।੬੪।
We are guests here for only a few days, but we take up so much space. ||64||
ਜੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ (ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨਾ) ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।
If you yearn for eternal peace, then seek the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸੁਣ, ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੋਲ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ) ।੨੭।
Says Nanak, listen, mind: this human body is difficult to obtain. ||27||
