ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹ
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the mind is conquered, and one attains the State of Liberation in one's own home.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਹੇ ਮਨ !) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇ ਇਕੱਠ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
So meditate on the Name of the Lord; join and merge with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਣ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
That mortal who is blessed by perfect destiny meets the Lord, the Sustainer of the Universe, in the Company of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਘਰ-ਬਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪੦।੪੭।
O Nanak, if the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells within the mind, one is approved and accepted, whether he is a house-holder or a renunciate. ||4||40||47||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
They become the constant slaves of the slaves of the Lord's slaves.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ) ਉਪਰਾਮ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Within their households and families, they remain always detached. ||2||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਉੱਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Night and day, sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the One Lord.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ ।
In the midst of your household, remain balanced and unattached.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Lord Himself infuses devotion into His humble devotees.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਨਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
In the midst of family life, they remain unattached. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਊਣ ਦੀ ਠੀਕ ਜਾਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਤੇ
O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, one comes to know the Perfect Way.
ਹੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਖੇਡਦਿਆਂ ਖਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਪਹਿਨਦਿਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਵੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
While laughing, playing, dressing and eating, he is liberated. ||2||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਸੂਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੰੁਦੀ ਹੈ
Instead of wearing these beggar's robes, it is better to be a householder, and give to others.
ਪਰ, ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who are attuned to the Word of the Shabad, acquire understanding; the others wander, deluded by doubt.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who remain wakeful obtain God; through the Word of the Shabad, they conquer their ego.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਅਸਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Immersed in family life, the Lord's humble servant ever remains detached; he reflects upon the essence of spiritual wisdom.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਿਚ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਖ਼ੂਬੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ
Such is the Glory of the True Guru;
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਆਦਿਕ ਪਰਵਾਰ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
in the midst of children and spouses, they attain emancipation. ||2||
(ਅਸਲ) ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
He alone is a householder, who restrains his passions
ਜੋ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਜਪ ਤਪ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ-ਰੂਪ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ;
and begs for meditation, austerity and self-discipline.
ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧ-ਘਟ ਬੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋੋਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ, ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਧੀਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ-ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He does not speak empty words; he gathers in the wealth of tolerance, and burns away his anger with the Naam.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਚਾਹੇ ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੈ ਚਾਹੇ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਹੈ ਚਾਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ ।੭।
Blessed is such a householder, Sannyaasi and Yogi, who focuses his consciousness on the Lord's feet. ||7||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਹਨ,
Some, in the midst of their household and family, remain always unattached.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They die in the Shabad, and dwell in the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, doubt and fear are dispelled.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੦।
In his own home, he remains unattached, like the lotus flower in the water. ||10||
(ਪਰ ਹਾਂ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਪਈ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟਾਈ ਹੈ ।
Following the path of intuitive awareness, one turns away from the world, and one's vision is enlightened.
ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਚ ਕੇ (ਅੱਖਾਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ) ਵੇਖ (ਜੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ; ਤਾਂ) ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਠੀਕ ਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਰਕਤ (ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੩।
Contemplate this in your mind, and see, O spiritual teacher. Who is the householder, and who is the renunciate? ||3||
(ਜੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਅਖਵਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਸੇਵਕ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਹੈ ।
He is a householder, he is a renunciate and God's slave, who, as Gurmukh, realizes his own self.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ।੫।੧੭।
Says Nanak, his mind is pleased and appeased by the True Word of the Shabad; there is no other at all. ||5||17||
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਘਰ-ਬਾਰੀ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਘਰ-ਬਾਰੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਭੀ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਰਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਣਾ ਹੀ ਭਲਾ ਹੈ ।
Kabeer, if you live the householder's life, then practice righteousness; otherwise, you might as well retire from the world.
ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਬਦ-ਕਿਸਮਤੀ ਸਮਝੋ ।੨੪੩।
If someone renounces the world, and then gets involved in worldly entanglements, he shall suffer terrible misfortune. ||243||
