ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਖਾਣ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਮਲੀਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Without Him, all that we wear and eat is impure.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ । (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਉਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੫।
Everything else is false. Whatever pleases Your Will is acceptable. ||4||5||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ
O Baba, the pleasures of other foods are false.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਰੀਰ ਰੋਗੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ ਕਈ) ਮੰਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Eating them, the body is ruined, and wickedness and corruption enter into the mind. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਉਹ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
All meditate on You, but they alone are accepted, who are pleasing to their Lord and Master.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਤੇ ਪੈਨਣ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਕੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ
Those who eat and dress without serving the True Guru die; after death, those wretched lepers are consigned to reincarnation.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਚਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਥੋੜਾ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਥੋੜਾ ਹੀ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਚਸਕੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੈ) ।
They burn away the bonds of the world, and eat a simple diet of grain and water.
“ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ”
You are the Great Forgiver; You give continually, more and more each day.
(ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਭੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।
Eating and drinking are pure, since the Lord gives nourishment to all.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ।੩।
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs, who understand the Lord, are not stained by impurity. ||3||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
And so he becomes a maggot in manure, and in that, he is absorbed.
(ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਸੁਆਦ ਉਹ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਗਏ, ਉਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਰੋਗ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ ਗਏ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਾਹ ਆਉਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਈ ।੨।
The more he tastes, the more he is diseased; without the Guru, there is no peace and poise. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਖਾਣ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ) ਪਹਿਨਣ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਘਾਟ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Eating too much, one's filth only increases; wearing fancy clothes, one's home is disgraced.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਉਣ ਦੇ) ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਭੀ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ) ਝਗੜਾ ਖੜਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਇਹੀ) ਸਮਝ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ (ਵਿਹਾਝਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।
Talking too much, one only starts arguments. Without the Name, everything is poison - know this well. ||1||
