ਕੀਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੇ ਕੀਹ ਮਰਦ—ਤੈਥੋਂ ਆਕੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ।
As woman or man, what can anyone do?
ਇਹ ਸਭ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਰਦ) ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਮਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
The many and various forms are always Yours, O Lord; they shall merge again into You. ||2||
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਦ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਦੇ ।
Men and women are obsessed with sex; they do not know the Way of the Lord's Name.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਭਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜਿਸ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ) ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਮੋਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ (ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Mother, father, children and siblings are very dear, but they drown, even without water.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਫਾਹੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਟਣ ਲਈ) ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
They take the noose in their hands, and go out at night to strangle others, but God knows everything, O mortal.
ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਥਾਈਂ ਲੁਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਾਈਆਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਵਲ ਤੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ,
They spy on other men's women, concealed in their hiding places.
ਮਨ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਕ ਲੋਭ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਭ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੂਤਕ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੈ); ਜੀਭ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਕ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ-ਰੂਪ ਸੂਤਕ ਹੈ);
The impurity of the mind is greed, and the impurity of the tongue is falsehood.
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ) ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਾਈਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਤੱਕਣ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਕ (ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ);
The impurity of the eyes is to gaze upon the beauty of another man's wife, and his wealth.
ਜੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ।
When his woman dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound.
ਜਿਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਜਾਤੀ) ਤੋਂ ਰਾਜੇ (ਭੀ) ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਦਾ ਆਖਣਾ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
So why call her bad? From her, kings are born.
ਹੇ ਭੋਲੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਏ! (ਤੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੂੜਾ ਪਾਇਆ, ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਭੀ ਕਈ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ, ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਇਤਨੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰਦੀਏ ਨਾਰੇ!
You don't have the bracelets of gold, nor the good crystal jewelry; you haven't dealt with the true jeweller.
ਸੜ ਜਾਣ ਉਹ (ਸਜਾਈਆਂ) ਬਾਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਖਸਮ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗ ਸਕੀਆਂ ।
Those arms, which do not embrace the neck of the Husband Lord, burn in anguish.
(ਅਖਵਾਂਦੀ ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ
The woman loves the man only for his wealth;
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਲਿਆਵੇ (ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ) ਪਤੀ ਚਾਹੇ ਘਰ ਆਵੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਏ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ) ।
they come and go as they please.
(ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਪੀ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਲੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਪਹਿਨ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ
With bowl in hand, wearing his patched coat, great desires well up in his mind.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨੇ ਆ ਦਬਾਇਆ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Abandoning his own wife, he is engrossed in sexual desire; his thoughts are on the wives of others.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਵਹੁਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਬੜੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਵਹੁਟੀ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਬੜਾ ਮੋਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
The husband and wife are very much in love; joining together, their love increases.
ਨਿੱਤ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਤੇ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਵਹੁਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
Gazing on his children and his wife, the man is pleased and attached to Maya.
(ਜੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਚਿਤਵਨੀ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਵਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਵਧਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
The husband and wife are very much in love; sitting together, they make evil plans.
ਪਰ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ (ਅੱਖੀਂ) ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ।
