ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾ
O Siblings of Destiny, instruct your minds in this way.
ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਕਿਉਂ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ? ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O mind, why are you so lazy? Become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Naam. ||1||Pause||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
By His Grace, His devotees become famous and acclaimed.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ, ਉੇਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਲਸ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।੧।
Joining the Society of the Saints, I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; the disease of laziness has disappeared. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਅੰਨ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ
They wear and eat the gifts from the Lord;
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਫਬਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ।੧।
how can laziness help them, O mother? ||1||
ਜਿਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਗਹਣੇ ਪਹਿਨੀਦੇ ਹਨ,
By His Grace, you wear decorations;
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਲਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ?
O mind, why are you so lazy? Why don't you remember Him in meditation?
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀ! ਤੂੰ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਈ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ?
You have avoided the slumber of attachment and impurity - by whose favor has this happened?
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤੇਰਾ ਆਲਸ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The great enticer does not affect you. Where has your laziness gone? ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹਾਂ ।
Loving the Beloved, the mind is filled with celestial bliss.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਲਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You yearn to meet with God, so why do you delay? ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Your humble servant awakes in the Love of the Lord's Name.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਲਸ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ, (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
All laziness has departed from his body, and his mind is attached to the Beloved Lord. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਸਤ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੌਂ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ
My mind is lazy and sleepy.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ । ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ) ਕਿਵਾੜ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Lord, Har, Har, has led me to meet the Holy Guru; meeting the Holy, the shutters have been opened wide. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਕੰਨੀਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
He listens to the sounds of sin and the music of corruption, and he is pleased.
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨੋਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
His mind is too lazy to listen to the Praises of the Lord. ||3||
(ਪਰ ਵੇਖੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਤਾ!) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
My mind is reluctant to serve Him;
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ-ਭਰ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਸੌਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ।੭।
forgetting Him, I cannot survive, even for an instant. ||7||
ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬਹੁਤ ਆਲਸ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸੰੁਞ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed manmukh is very lazy; he is trapped in the wilderness.
(ਨਾਮ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੰੁਞੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚ) ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਿਤ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਕੋਝੀ ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ) ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He is drawn to the bait, and continually pecking at it, he is trapped; his link to the Lord is ruined.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।
Concentrate forever on the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰਾ ਆਲਸ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
God the Destroyer of all depression and suffering is found, through the Guru's Teachings, singing the Glorious Praises of God. ||1||Pause||
