(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਇਹ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਪਿਆਲਾ) ਪਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Perfect Lord naturally gives the cup of Truth, to the one upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਸ ਰਸ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ (ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਸ) ਹੋਛੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੨।
One who trades in this Nectar - how could he ever love the wine of the world? ||2||
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ, ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਮਹਿਫ਼ਲ ਹੈ
The cup of the mind's longing is overflowing with falsehood, and the Messenger of Death is the cup-bearer.
ਕੂੜ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕਟੋਰੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਕਾਲ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਪਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Drinking in this wine, O Nanak, one takes on countless sins and corruptions.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਲਿਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਏਥੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਗਿਆ, ਉਹ ਏਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਲਿੱਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਆਦਿਕ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
One person brings a full bottle, and another fills his cup.
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੀਤਿਆਂ ਅਕਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬਕਣ ਦਾ ਜੋਸ਼ ਆ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ
Drinking the wine, his intelligence departs, and madness enters his mind;
ਹੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
He is the Giver of peace to the breath of life, the Giver of life to the soul; how can you forget Him, you ignorant person?
ਛੇਤੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਨਸ਼ਾ ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਝੱਲਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
You taste the weak, insipid wine, and you have gone insane. You have uselessly wasted this precious human life. ||1||
