ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹ, ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ
Give me that understanding, by which I may meditate on You.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਆਖ—) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਹ, ਤਾਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।੪।੧੨।੧੯।
I sing Your Glorious Praises with each and every breath. Nanak takes the Support of the Guru's Feet. ||4||12||19||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
By Your Grace, I recognize You.
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਫ਼ਖ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ ਹੈਂ ।
You are my Shelter, and You are my Honor.
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ (ਮਾਲਕ) ਹੈਂ ।
You are my Beloved, my Lord and Master, Utterly Great.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣੇ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
You alone know Your Ways; I grasp Your Support, Lord of the World. ||1||
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਹਨ ।
All beings and creatures were created by You.
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੰੁੂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਸਹਾਈ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ), ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Without You, there is no other, O Creator. You are my Support and my Protection. ||1||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Their minds are transfixed by His Lotus Feet. They are attached to the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ,
Seek the Protection of the Lord of the Universe; His service is truly profitable.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈੰ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।
God is overflowing with all powers. I have no honor-He is my resting place.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I have grasped the Support of the Lord within my mind; I live by chanting and meditating on His Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I obtain the Naam, which shall go along with me in the end.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਸਹਮ ਵਿਚ ਜਕੜੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without the Name, all are held in the grip of Death. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਵੋ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ, ਵਣਜ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਹੋ ।
My farming and my trading are by the Support of the Name.
(ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਪਾਪ ਜਾਂ ਪੁੰਨ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਲਈ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਬੀਜ ਦੀ ਪੋਟਲੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਉਹ ਚੰਗਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
The seeds of sin and virtue are bound together.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, (ਸਦਾ) ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
is never separated from them; He is with them all.
ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀਲੇ-ਜਤਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਫੜ,
Abandon your clever devices, and grasp hold of His Support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ-ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਤੇਰੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
You are my Glory; I am blended with You.
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।੩।
You are my Shelter; You are my Anchoring Support. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! (ਤੇਰੀ ਰਚੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ),
Maya torments us in so many ways.
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
But the Saints live under Your Protection, God. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ । ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Everything comes from You; You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
The Perfect Supreme Lord God is the Support of His humble servant.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ
Granting His Grace, God has released me from bondage.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
He has given me the Support of His Lotus Feet. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ,
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts;
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼) ।੪।੧੦੮।
he grasps the Support of God, his Lord and Master. ||4||108||
(ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਬਿਖਾਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ।
Trying all sorts of things, I have grown weary, but still, they will not leave me alone.
ਇਕ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
But I have heard that they can be rooted out, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; and so I seek their Shelter. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ!
He is the Supreme Lord God, the Perfect Transcendent Lord; O my mind, hold tight to the Support of the One
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਤੀ-ਮੰਡਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ
who established the solar systems and galaxies. Chant the Name of that Lord. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ) ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਤੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਹੈਂ ।
You are my delight, You are my praise. You are my beauty, You are my love.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਹੈ ।੧।
O God, You are my hope and support. ||1||
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਾ ਜਾਣੀ,
I have not understood the wisdom of serving Him, nor have I worshipped Him in meditation.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਝਿਆ, (ਪਰ ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
You are my Support, O Life of the World; O my Lord and Master, Inaccessible and Incomprehensible. ||2||
ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ-ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਹਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਾਂ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਤੈ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ);
Continually hearing of the terrifying path, I am so afraid.
ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਤਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਵੋ ।੨।
I have sought the Protection of the Saints; please, save me! ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਜੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ) ।੫।
The Destroyer of fear, the Dispeller of pain, the Lover of His Saints - these are the Names of the Lord. ||5||
ਹੇ ਅਨਾਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ।੬।
He is the Master of the masterless, Merciful to the meek, All-powerful, the Support of His Saints. ||6||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦਲੀਲ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਛੱਡ ।
O mind, grasp the Support of the Holy Saint; give up your clever arguments.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੇਖ (ਉਘੜਿਆ ਸਮਝੋ) ।੧।
One who has the Guru's Teachings within his mind, O Nanak, has good destiny inscribed upon his forehead. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
The Name of the Lord is the Support of His servants.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
By the Name of the Lord, millions have been saved.
ਭਗਤ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਤਕੜਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
The Lord, Har, Har is the All-powerful Protection of His servants.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਿਆ ।
His servants know no other than the Lord's Magnificence.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹੈ ।
Seeking the Protection of the Saints, we have come to their door.
ਉਸ ਨੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।੬।
All comforts, O Nanak, are so obtained. ||6||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਜੋ ਮਨੱੁਖ਼ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਉ ,
O my mind, seek their protection;
ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ ।
give your mind and body to those humble beings.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ) ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਕੋ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
You are my only Shelter, my only Support.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Nanak asks for the most sublime, the Naam, the Name of God. ||1||
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਰੱਖੇ ਜੋ ਦੀਨ ਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
Take the Support of the Lord, who gives support in the spiritual and material worlds.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਫੜੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਮੱਲੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।
Nanak grasps the Lotus Feet of the Lord; he humbly bows in His Court. ||8||
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਠਾ ਹੈ, ਉਮਰ (ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤਦੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਇਸ ਕੋਠੇ ਨੂੰ) ਅੱਗ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਇਹੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ; ਕਿਆ ਅਚਰਜ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਹੈ!)
Age is the fire, and the body is the house of straw; on all four sides, this play is being played out.
ਇਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।੫੯।
Says Kabeer, to cross over the terriffying world-ocean, I have taken to the Shelter of the True Guru. ||4||1||8||59||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸ ਤੇ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਮਿਟਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Hope and desire have both been dispelled; I have renounced my longing for the three qualities.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਈਏ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰੀਏ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਪੋਹ ਨ ਸਕੇ ।੪।
The Gurmukh obtains the state of ecstasy, taking to the Shelter of the Saints' Congregation. ||4||
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
Whatever I do, is by Your Almighty Power.
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
You are my only Support, You are my only Court. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ,
The Lord is my Support; the Lord is my Power.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The Lord is my Friend; He is my mind's advisor. ||2||
ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
You are my support, You are my hope.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਬੈਠਦਿਆਂ, ਉਠਦਿਆਂ, ਸੁੱਤਿਆਂ, ਜਾਗਦਿਆਂ, ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਨਾਲ, ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਰਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
While sitting down or standing up, while sleeping or waking, with every breath and morsel of food, I never forget You. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਕੋਈ ਉਕਤਿ, ਕੋਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ, ਕੋਈ ਜਪ, ਕੋਈ ਤਪ, ਕੋਈ ਸੰਜਮ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾੜੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ,
I know nothing, and my intellect is inadequate.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੮।੬੯।
Prays Nanak, O God, You are my only Support. ||4||18||69||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਪਕੜੀ ਹ
When I took to Your Protection, O God,
ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
my desires were fulfilled. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to You.
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਾਣ-ਬਲ ਹੈਂ ।੪।੩੪।੮੫।
O God, You are the Support and the Strength of the Saints. ||4||34||85||
ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਦਬਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ
Holding to His Support, the state of fearless dignity is obtained.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
With each and every breath, sing of the Lord, the treasure of excellence. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ) ਲੇਖੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਇਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਣੇ ਹਨ) ।
O mind, your steps are numbered, your moments spent sitting are numbered, and the breaths you are to take are numbered.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ । ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਣੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੧।੧੨੩।
Sing forever the Praises of the Lord, O Nanak, and you shall be saved, under the Shelter of the Feet of the True Guru. ||4||1||123||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ
Grab hold of the Support of the One Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।
Chant the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।
I have grasped the protection of the merciful Lord, the Sustainer of the Universe, the treasure of grace.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ । ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਹੈ ।
I take the support of Your lotus feet, and in the protection of Your Sanctuary, I attain perfection.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਦੇ ਆਰੰਭ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ, ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਅਸਥਿਰ) ਹੈਂ । ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ । ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the beginning and in the end, countless are those who seek the Lord. I have heard that the Society of the Saints is the way to salvation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ! ਹੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ ।੩।
Prays Nanak, I meditate on the Lord's lotus feet, and grasp the protection of the Lord of the Universe, the merciful, the ocean of kindness. ||3||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਰਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਦੌੜ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ (ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ) ।
After wandering around with such great loads of sin, I have come, after wandering through so many foreign lands.
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
Now, I have taken the protection of God, and I have found total peace in the Name of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਸ (ਦੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ) ਦਾ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
His Glorious Virtues are infinite, and His greatness is unlimited. His value cannot be described at all.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਕ ਸਰੂਪ ਤੋਂ ਅਨੇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੧।
God is the One and only, the Unseen Lord and Master; O Nanak, I have grasped His protection. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! “ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਆਸਾ ਕੂਕਰੀ” ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ, ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਪੁਕਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਇਸ “ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਆਸਾ ਕੂਕਰੀ” ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੰੁਦੀ ।
Wandering around in all directions, they cry out, "Nothing can save us!"
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਫੜ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੫।੪।੩੦।
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lotus Feet of the Infinite Lord; he holds fast to their Support. ||5||4||30||
ਜੋ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ) ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Renounce all your efforts, and hold fast to His Support.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀਲੇ ਛੱਡੋ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਵੋ, ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੋ ।
Run to His Sanctuary, and you shall obtain the comfort of all comforts.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਤੇ
All the cleverness of my mind is gone.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਭ ਕੁਝ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Lord and Master is the Doer, the Cause of causes; Nanak holds tight to His Support. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੇਵਕ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਰਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide within his heart, and with every breath and morsel of food, he chants the Lord's Name.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।੪।੩੦।
Nanak has grasped the Support of the Lord of the Universe; again and again, he is a sacrifice to Him. ||2||4||30||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
Forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to You.
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੩।
Here and hereafter, I seek Your Protection. ||3||
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼) ।
Bless me with Your Grace, God, O Merciful to the meek.
ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ-ਪਾਲਕ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I seek Your Protection, O Perfect Lord, Sustainer of the World. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼
O Lord, grant me such understanding,
(ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਫੜੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ । (ਇਹ ਆਸਰਾ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ-ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
that I might serve the Holy Saints, and seek the protection of their feet, and not forget them, for a moment, even an instant. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ ।
He created you, and after creating you, He adorned you - meditate on Him day and night.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਫੜੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ ।੪।੪।
God has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; I hold tight to the Support of the True Guru. ||4||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ—) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਹਾਂ, ਨੀਚ ਹਾਂ, ਨਿਆਸਰਾ ਹਾਂ, ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ,
I am worthless, lowly, without friends or support, and full of sins; I long for the Shelter of the Saints.
ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!) ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਤੋੜ ਤਕ ਨਿਬਾਹੋ ।੪।੭।
I am drowning in the deep, dark pit of household attachments - please save me, Lord! ||4||7||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who hold tightly to Your Support, God, are happy in Your Sanctuary.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਖੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
But those humble beings who forget the Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny, are counted among the most miserable beings. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ।
I am the dust of the feet of the Beloved Saints; I seek the Protection of their Sanctuary.
ਸੰਤ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਕੜਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹਨ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
The Saints are my all-powerful Support; the Saints are my ornament and decoration. ||1||
(ਆਖ—) ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
O Perfect Lord, Merciful to the meek, Destroyer of pain, without You, I have no shelter at all.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ । ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ (ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈ ।੪।੧੫।੨੬।
Please, lift me up out of the world-ocean; O God, I have come to Your Sanctuary. ||4||15||26||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਬੀਣਾ ਵੱਜਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
and the unstruck melody of the celestial sound current ever resounds within me. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ,
The Lord's feet are my all-powerful shelter and support;
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ।
my dependence on other people is totally finished.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ । (ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The Lord, the Lord of the Universe, is not pleased by mere recitation of words; if it is pleasing to His Will, He preserves our honor.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੩
I have seen all other shelters, but Yours alone remains for me. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is the support and shelter of the Saints.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
One who remembers the Lord in meditation, is emancipated; millions have been saved in this way. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
Dear God, Lord of the world, You are my only support.
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are all-powerful, the Giver of Sanctuary; twenty-four hours a day, I meditate on You. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚ ਗਿਆ
I grasped God's Support and Protection, and then I was emancipated.
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
By the Grace of the Holy Saints, I sang the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, and my sins and afflictions were taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ।
For this reason, I sought the Protection and Support of my Lord, the Cherisher of the Universe.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ) ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਜੰਜਾਲ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
I sought the Sanctuary of the Perfect Transcendent Lord, and all my entanglements were dissolved. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਹੋਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
One who has good karma, grasps the Protection of the hem of the Saint's robe; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Messenger of Death cannot threaten him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਿਟ ਗਿਆ ।੨।੨।੩੦।
I have obtained the supreme treasure, and my egotism has been eradicated; Nanak's mind is attached to the One Formless Lord. ||2||2||30||
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਓਟ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖੇ,
When one considers the Lord to be his only support,
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਤੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਰਦਾ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਤ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਵਿਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
then the Lord uses His power to help him; this power cannot be defeated. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ (ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ) ਜੂਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ (ਜੂਨ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਫਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ) ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
Whoever is born into the world, is entangled in it; human birth is obtained only by good destiny.
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ । ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ ।੧।
I look to Your support, O Holy Saint; give me Your hand, and protect me. By Your Grace, let me meet the Lord, my King. ||1||
ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ
The Merciful Lord is the Savior of the Saints; their only support is to sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ।੧।
One becomes immaculate and pure, by associating with the Saints, O Nanak, and taking the Protection of the Transcendent Lord. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Through the Protection and Support of the Lord's lotus feet, all beings are saved.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਬੰਦਗੀ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Hearing of the Glory of the Lord of the Universe, the mind becomes fearless.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਇਆਂ ਸਦਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਬੇ-ਪਤੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Forgetting the Lord, one is ruined forever.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਧੋਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
How can anyone be deceived, who has Your Support, O Lord? ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Wandering, wandering, wandering through countless incarnations, I have grown so weary.
ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
Now, I hold tight to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ (ਉੱਠ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ
In the early hours of the morning, I chant the Lord's Name.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ ।੧।
I have fashioned a shelter for myself, hear and hereafter. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
I have grasped the Support of the Holy Saints.
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ
Nanak meditates on the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
When the True King is pleased, the world is rid of its diseases. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ! ਤੂੰ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are the Support of Your devotees, and the Shelter of the Saints, O True Creator Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਣ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨ ਹੈਂ, ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੈਂ ।
You are my shelter and support, power, intellect and wealth; You are my family.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਹੈ । ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੨।੮੨।
Whatever You do, I know that is good. Gazing upon Your Lotus Feet, Nanak is at peace. ||2||2||82||
ਹੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੀ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਂਹ) ਫੜ ਲੈ,
I thought of Your Support, and seized it, O my Lord and Master.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) (ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ।੪।
Please, give Nanak Your hand and save him, Lord! ||4||
ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
My consciousness takes to the Shelter of the Naam.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Chanting the Naam, millions of sins are erased. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਉਹ ਮਿਲਾਪ-ਰੂਪ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਚੀਜ਼ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਇੰਦਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ।
Meeting with the Guru, I have attained the incomprehensible object.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੧੭।੧੯।
Slave Nanak has grasped the Support of the Lord. ||4||17||19||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
This mind is a sacrifice to the Saints;
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ । ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
holding tight to their support, I have found peace, and in their mercy, they have protected me. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ,
My mind has grasped His Support.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ।
My bonds have been shattered.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਈ ਰੱਖ,
I seek His eternal support;
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਹਨ ।
He is the Creator of all beings.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਕਰ
O mind, take the sheltering support of the Lord's Name.
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Remembering Him in meditation, evil-mindedness is dispelled, and the state of Nirvaanaa is obtained. ||1||Pause||
ਕੋਈ ਇਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਅਨੰਨ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਹਾਂ (ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਹਾਂ) ।
Some claim that they are devotees of the One Lord alone.
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਗਰੀਬ ਨੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
I am meek; I seek the shelter and support of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਉਸਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
Seek the Support of the One Lord, and surrender your soul to Him; place your hopes only in the Sustainer of the World.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who are imbued with the Lord's Name, in the Saadh Sangat, cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
(ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਘਾਬਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਸਦਾ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
She sins, and so she is fearful of reincarnation; the Messenger of Death will surely punish her.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ) ।੩।
Prays Nanak, take me under Your sheltering support, Lord, and protect me; You are the Fulfiller of desire. ||3||
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ । (ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।
You are eternally stable, O Creator, Lord and Master; I lean on Your Support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ । ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਫੜੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿਸੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੱਸਣ ਦਾ ਤਕੀਆ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਿਆ) ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ
You are my Sumayr Mountain, O my Lord and Master; I have grasped Your Support.
(ਤੇਰਾ ਲੜ ਫੜ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਲਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੧।
You do not shake, and I do not fall. You have preserved my honor. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਦੱਸਾਂ? ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
What sins of mine should I speak of? I am intoxicated with false emotional attachment.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਫੜੀ ਹੈ । ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਪਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਫੜ ਲੈ ।੪।੨।
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord; please, reach out and take me into Your embrace. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਜਮਰਾਜ (ਭੀ) ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ (ਕਿਉਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ?
Hearing His Name, the Messenger of Death will release you, and yet, you do not enter His Sanctuary!
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਟਿਕਾ ਲੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ (ਸਿੰਘ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਗਿੱਦੜ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Turn out this wretched jackal, and seek the Shelter of that God. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ, ਵਿਚਕਾਰਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ, ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
He alone exists, in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He Himself is the Shelter of the Saints. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਤਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
No one knows me; I am called Your slave.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖੇਂਗਾ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
This is my support and sustenance. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪੇ੍ਰਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ
Their minds are imbued with the True, all-pervading Lord.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕੋਈ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ।੧੩।
Seeking His Shelter, they find peace, and their minds and bodies are not stained with filth. ||13||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
I seek the support of the Perfect Guru, the Lord.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
The Gurmukh loves the Lord; the Gurmukh realizes the Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੭।੪।੧੦।
O Nanak, through the Lord's Name, the intellect is exalted; granting His forgiveness, the Lord carries him across to the other side. ||17||4||10||
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜਸ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।
With my ears, I listen to the Pure Praises of my Lord and Master.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿਆਂ,
With the Support of the One Lord, I have abandoned corruption, sexuality and desire.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ।
I have grasped the Support, and entered the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Father of the world.
ਜਮਦੂਤ ਬੜੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਹਨ, ਬੜੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
The Messenger of Death is terrifying and horrendous, and sea of Maya is impassable.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
I have grasped the Support of the Lord's Feet; dwelling there, my body has become immaculate.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੰਮੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
O Nanak, I have obtained profound insight, and found peace; my mind is comforted by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਤੁਰਨੇ-ਸਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ) ਆਏ । (ਉਹਨਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ।
The important men of the city met together, and sought the Protection of the Guru, the True Guru.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪੁੱਛ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਚਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਨਿਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਕਿ ‘ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ’ ‘ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ’ ਨੂੰ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਣਾ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ) ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਹੈ ।
The Guru, the True Guru, the Guru is the Lord of the Universe. Go ahead and consult the Simritees - they will confirm this.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਪੰਚਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈ । (ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ—(ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਹਾ ਜਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ-ਦਾਨ (ਹੋ ਗਏ) ।
The Puraanas continually praise the giving of charity, but devotional worship of the Lord is only obtained through the Word of Guru Nanak.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਤੁਰਨੇ-ਸਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ) ਆਏ । (ਉਹਨਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ।੬।੪।੧੦।
The important men of the city met together, and sought the Protection of the Guru, the True Guru. ||6||4||10||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਈ ਭੀ) ਉਸੇ ਦੀ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਹੈ ।
He is my Anchor and Support; I place my hopes in Him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁੱਖ (ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ, ਤੇ) ਸੁਖ (ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਈ) ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ (ਸਦਾ ਅਰਦਾਸ) ਹੈ ।
I place my pain and pleasure before Him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਰੱਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He covers the faults of His humble servant.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਈ ਰੱਖ ।
Grab hold of the Support of God, O my mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ) ਵੈਰੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ, ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
As Gurmukh, worship and adore His Lotus Feet; enemies and pains shall not even approach you. ||1||Pause||
ਹਾਥੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁੰਡ ਦੀ ਚੋਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਨਾਮਾ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ;
The elephant attacked him with his trunk,
ਨਾਮੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੮।
but Naam Dayv was saved, protected by the Lord. ||8||
(ਹੇ ਕਾਇਆਂ!) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਏਂ,
If you seek the Support of the Holy,
ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ।
millions upon millions of your sins shall be totally erased.
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਫਿਰੋਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਰਮਸਾਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
But if you forsake Him, and serve mortal beings, your honor will dissolve like salt in water. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ।
I have grasped the Anchor and Support of my Lord and Master; meeting with the Guru, I have found wisdom and understanding.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ।੨।੨੬।੪੯।
Nanak has met God, the Treasure of Excellence; all dependence on others is gone. ||2||26||49||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਤਕੜਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ।
I have the Almighty Support of my Dear Lord God.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਮਾਣ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਡੱਪਣ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ (ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I do not look up to anyone else. My honor and glory are Yours, O God. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਥੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਕਰਤੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ ।
I cannot do anything else.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿਣਾ—ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I have taken this Support, meeting the Saints; I have entered the Sanctuary of the One Lord of the World. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
O mother, I have grasped the Protection, the Sanctuary of the Lord's Feet.
(ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਰੁੜ੍ਹ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my mind is fascinated, and evil-mindedness is taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਲਦਾ), ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Her mind is steady and stable; she does not come and go in reincarnation.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਠੀਕ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।੨।
She takes the Shelter of the Perfect Guru. O Nanak, as Gurmukh, chant the Naam; you shall be accepted as the true soul-bride of the Lord. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।੩।
When my Playful Beloved came into my household, then I found total peace. ||3||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the Society of the Saints, I have the Support and Protection of the Perfect Guru; this is the pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon my forehead.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈ, ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੜ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He is the Master of the masterless, the Destroyer of the pains of the poor; He has attached me to the hem of His robe.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।੨।੧੨।੧੬।
O Lord, Your slaves live by Your Support; Nanak has come to the Sanctuary of God. ||2||12||16||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
O my Dear Lord and Master, You alone are my Support.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ; ਫ਼ਖ਼ਰ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You are my Honor and Glory; I seek Your Support, and Your Sanctuary. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਓਟ ਛੱਡ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I am Your helpless servant and slave; I have given up all other support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਭਰਮ ਭੀ ਕੱਟੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, (ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੱਤੀ ਜਾਗ ਪਈ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
Every trace of doubt has been eradicated, remembering God in meditation. I have applied the ointment of spiritual wisdom, and awakened from my sleep. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ
I do not know of any other support; O Lord, You are my only Hope and Support.
(ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਜੀਵ ਕੋਈ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।
I am meek and poor - what prayer can I offer?
ਹੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਹੇ ਅਨਾਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ! ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ।
He is the Master of the praanaa, the breath of life; He is the Giver of Support to the unsupported. I am meek and poor - I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਆਸਾਂ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ (ਸਭ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੨।੧।੪੦।
He is the Fulfiller of hope, the Destroyer of pain. Nanak grasps the Support of the Feet of the Lord. ||2||1||40||
ਸੰਤ-ਜਨ ਅਜਿੱਤ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਹੈ । ਗ਼ਰੀਬੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਸੰਜੋਅ ਹੈ;
The Holy people are an invincible army of spiritual warriors; their bodies are protected by the armor of humility.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਣੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ; ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੀ ਢਾਲ ਹੈ ।
Their weapons are the Glorious Praises of the Lord which they chant; their Shelter and Shield is the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹੇ ਚੰਚਲ ਕਾਮ! ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਤਾਂ ਥੋੜਾ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਇਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੁੱਧ ਆਚਰਨ ਦੇ) ਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਜੀਵ ਉੱਚੇ ਹੋਣ, ਨੀਵੇਂ ਹੋਣ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
But you give only shallow pleasure, while you make the mortals weak and unsteady; you pervade the high and the low.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੈ ।੪੬।
Your fear is dispelled in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, through the Protection and Support of the Lord. ||46||
ਹੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਲੁਕ ਲੁਕ ਕੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਦੇ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਪਰ) ਤੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
I try to hide my deception, but God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of Hearts, sees and hears all.
ਹੇ ਜੀਅ-ਦਾਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਸੀਲ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਧਰਮ; ਨਾਹ ਦਇਆ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਸੁੱਚ । ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ।
I have no humility, faith, compassion or purity, but I seek Your Sanctuary, O Giver of life.
ਹਰੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈ, ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਸਖਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਹੈ; ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਧਾਰ ਹੈ ।
The Lord is my Friend, my Very Best Friend, Companion and Relative. God is the Sustenance of the soul, the Support of the breath of life.
ਅਸਾਂ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਪਕੜੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਦਾਸ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੈ ।੯।
I have grasped the Shelter and Support of my All-powerful Lord and Master; slave Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||9||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ) ਫਾਹੀਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਣ ਲਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ) ਤਾਕਤ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਹੀਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
My strength is exhausted, and I am in bondage; I cannot do anything at all.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਵੇਲੇ (ਹੁਣ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ । ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ (ਤੇਂਦੂਏ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਣ ਲਈ) ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣਿਆ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣ । (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੀ ਇਕੋ ਇਕ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਹੈ) ।੫੩।
Says Nanak, now, the Lord is my Support; He will help me, as He did the elephant. ||53||
