ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਨੀ ਮੁਠੇ ਅਹੰਮਤੇ ॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਠੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੋਜਦੇ,

The self-willed manmukhs do not search within their own selves; they are deluded by their egotistical pride.

ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾਂ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤਿਖ ਤਤੇ ॥

ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੜੇ ਹੋਏ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਚੌਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ

Wandering in the four directions, they grow weary, tormented by burning desire within.

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਨ ਸੋਧਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ॥

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੋਜਦੇ ਤੇ (ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੋ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।

They do not study the Simritees and the Shaastras; the manmukhs waste away and are lost.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਤੇ ॥

ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ ।

Without the Guru, no one finds the Naam, the Name of the True Lord.

ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਤੇ ॥੧੯॥

ਅਸਾਂ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਲੱਭੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਹਾਲਤ ਸੁਧਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧੯।

One who contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom and meditates on the Lord is saved. ||19||
