ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he chants the Name of the Lord.
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।
Night and day, he remains imbued with the Naam, day and night; he is rid of emotional attachment to Maya. ||8||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Serving the Guru, all things are obtained;
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
egotism, possessiveness and self-conceit are taken away.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੯।
The Lord, the Giver of peace Himself grants His Grace; He exalts and adorns with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||9||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੈ,
The Guru's Shabad is the Ambrosial Bani.
(ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।
Night and day, chant the Name of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੦।
That heart becomes immaculate, which is filled with the True Lord, Har, Har. ||10||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
His servants serve, and praise His Shabad.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Imbued forever with the color of His Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧੧।
He Himself forgives, and unites them with the Shabad; the fragrance of sandalwood permeates their minds. ||11||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through the Shabad, they speak the Unspoken, and praise the Lord.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
My True Lord God is self-sufficient.
ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੨।
The Giver of virtue Himself unites them with the Shabad; they enjoy the sublime essence of the Shabad. ||12||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ।
The confused, self-willed manmukhs find no place of rest.
(ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ? ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਰਮ ਉਹ ਹੁਣ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
They do those deeds which they are pre-destined to do.
ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਮਸਤ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ (ਹੁਣ ਭੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਦੇ ਹਰਖ ਕਦੇ ਸੋਗ), ਇਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੩।
Imbued with poison, they search out poison, and suffer the pains of death and rebirth. ||13||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
He Himself praises Himself.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹਨ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ);
Your Glorious Virtues are within You alone, God.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਲੱਖ ਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈਂ ।੧੪।
You Yourself are True, and True is the Word of Your Bani. You Yourself are invisible and unknowable. ||14||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord,
ਜੇ (ਕੋਈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ,
though one may make hundreds of thousands and millions of attempts.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੫।
By Guru's Grace, He dwells deep within the heart; through the Shabad, praise the True Lord. ||15||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They alone meet Him, whom the Lord unites with Himself.
ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They are adorned and exalted with the True Word of His Bani, and the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਆਓ, ਅਸੀ ਭੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਏ । (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੬।੪।੧੩।
Servant Nanak continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; singing His Glories, he is immersed in the Glorious Lord of Virtue. ||16||4||13||
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ।
The One Lord is eternal and unchanging, forever True.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Through the Perfect Guru, this understanding is obtained.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੰਜੋਅ (ਪਹਿਨੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹੱਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ) ।੧।
Those who are drenched with the sublime essence of the Lord, meditate forever on Him; following the Guru's Teachings, they obtain the armor of humility. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੈ ।
Deep within, they love the True Lord forever.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they love the Lord's Name.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਲ ਖੱਟੀ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The Naam, the embodiment of the nine treasures, abides within their hearts; they renounce the profit of Maya. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਾਕਮ ਤੇ ਪਰਜਾ ਸਭ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Both the king and his subjects are involved in evil-mindedness and duality.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
Without serving the True Guru, they do not become one with the Lord.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਟੱਲ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Those who meditate on the One Lord find eternal peace. Their power is eternal and unfailing. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਕੋਈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਅ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
No one can save them from coming and going.
ਇਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Birth and death come from Him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ । ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।੪।
The Gurmukh meditates forever on the True Lord. Emancipation and liberation are obtained from Him. ||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਦਾ ਪੱਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ),
Truth and self-control are found through the Door of the True Guru.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Egotism and anger are silenced through the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । ਚੰਗਾ ਆਚਰਨ, ਸੰਤੋਖ—ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਹੈ ।੫।
Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is found; humility and contentment all come from Him. ||5||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਖਚਿਤ ਰਿਹਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Out of egotism and attachment, the Universe welled up.
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all the world perishes.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ । ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਹੈ ।੬।
Without serving the True Guru, the Naam is not obtained. The Naam is the True profit in this world. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੁਕਮ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
True is His Will, beauteous and pleasing through the Word of the Shabad.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਉਂ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਪੰਜ ਹੀ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰਾਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
